The year was lost. Calenders existed no more and the busy world of yesteryear became extinct. Everything that was once known came to a halt, and it was because of their own doing.

Having it last as long as it had was simply astonishing. Earth's disease was relentless as it used to be fueled by hatred and self righteousness; mixed with paranoia and greed. Their details were trivial and pointless; compelled by their own skewered reasons plagued and deluded their feeble minds. Everywhere one may have gone there it was; those perfect little houses weren't innocent in the least bit.

But, that superficial era happened a long time ago and their relics remain today as decaying cold eyesores. Glass was now sand, beams barely held their own weight and pavement was cracked and abandoned. How it ended up this way was a long, yet inevitable, story in itself.

Humans; pinnacle and creators of every imaginable evil in the entire macrocosm of life itself. They got away with a lot, and no hesitation nor remorse was ever questioned. They dodged the unbiased rule of nature only to destroy it; and themselves in the process.

Billions of lives were cut short from all species fathomable, caused by their self delusion that they were the chosen species, favored by divine intervention; when in reality it was entirely self fabricated. All the nonsensical hysteria was just a plot to justify the shallow artificial-euphoria of those few who owned everything. Not only was life itself enslaved and tortured during their reign, but the planet itself suffer greatly, day in and day out.

Over time the planet went through drastic climate changes fueled by careless pollution and physical harm. An ice age began seeping from the magnetic poles of the planet. Humans argued and bickered against one another even before it began; some said it was impending... some said it was ridiculous... Nether the less, they found themselves in a dilemma as their land started to become inhabitable.

Whatever humans didn't perish over the first few years; they fled to the equator. They essentially flooded central America and the Middle East with a sea of humans from different cultures. Civil unrest was upon those who fled their previous homes. The human sea became the dead sea... and that was the last thing known by those who lived in "The North".

Not many lived there, none that you would call human. 250 years prior to the modern ice age, there were a few who believed the ice age was inevitable... and a couple of them contacted genetic engineering. Determined to keep the human race alive, they spliced human genes with other various animal genes; ones that can endure living in extreme cold. Quite frankly, the first prototypes were abominations. Their hideous first creations lived short, bleak and painful lives, and once testing was complete; they were discarded.

100 years past before it was more or less perfected. A few dozen of these human/animal species maintained a healthy population in the separated world of The North. Human roots and history were educated to these new species and a sliver of man-kind survived in their minds as the last of the humans eventually perished, leaving nothing but their creations.

What was left out? What was kept secret from these new specimen of life? Or rather was too much told? Some may say their twisted morals and knowledge was their curse which ultimately doomed them. Could it grow again?
