#16 of Spyro: Light shall triumph

Is this the end of our hero's?

Chapter 17: outbreak part 2 / ascension.

"The self destruct activated when that power conduit blew." Naomi said.

"Is there any way to de-activate it?" Volteer asked.

"From here, not a chance, but if we were able to get to the power core we could shut down the power, therefore disabling the self destruct." Naomi said.

"Let's go then." Spyro said.

"The doors are sealed shut to prevent the disease or virus from spreading, they wont open." Naomi said.

"Let me have a go at them." spyro said.

And so he did. He valiantly tried to open the doors, but to no avail.

"See what I mean?" Naomi said

"Yeah, damn it." spyro said.

"We've got to do something." Cynder said

Just then the door opened fractionally, the gap was big enough to fir spyro and Cynder through.

"What the?" Naomi asked quizzically.

"The power core is 10 decks down, I've managed to open the doors on the route you must take, once there you must switch off all the power switches, now go." Galinoth rasped, a console of some sort had risen up out of the floor next to Galinoth.

"Don't strain your self." Naomi said to Galinoth.

"Don't worry about me." Galinoth smiled.

"We'll go as fast as we can." Cynder said.

The pair managed to squeeze through the gap and began their journey to the power core. In one of the main corridors near the power core ignitus was trying to force one of the doors that suddenly opened.

"I wonder why they suddenly opened?" he asked himself as he felt the door move.

After 10 minutes the door finally opened to reveal the entrance to the power core.

"Now then, let's see if I can open you." He muttered as he began to pry the doors open.

Heat poured out of the core room as he opened the door slightly, he knew instantly that this was a bad sign.

"This way, come on." He heard someone say.

He looked back and saw spyro and Cynder heading this way.

"Help me get this door open!" ignitus said between gritted teeth.

"Ok." They both said, they ran to the door and tried to open it.

"I can feel it budging." Cynder said

Not soon after she spoke, the door gave way and the core room was open to them.

Monitoring equipment was all-round the room, some of it red with the heat, and in the middle, 5 ZPM's were stored in an interface of some kind, they were glowing brightly, this was bad.

"Not good." Ignitus said.

"Galinoth showed me what would happen if one of these things overloaded." Cynder stuttered.

"And what happened?" ignitus asked.

"When fully overloaded, a single ZPM, if above half charge can destroy an entire planet." Cynder responded.

"WHAT?" ignitus exclaimed.

"They can do that much damage?" spyro asked.

"I'm afraid so." Cynder responded

"We have to de-activate then quickly!" ignitus shouted over the rising hum.

"We know how to!" spyro shouted back, the humming was growing to a crescendo

"How?" ignitus asked.

"Galinoth told us!" Cynder responded.

"You better tell me what to do as well." Ignitus asked.

"You see this switch?" Cynder gestured.

"Yes." Ignitus said.

"All we have to do is pull them down like so, then wait 10 minutes before pulling them back up." Cynder said as she began to pull any switch she could find.

"I got it." ignitus said as he began to de-activate any switched he could find.

Around 5 minutes passed before spyro found the last switch. But there was one problem, it was jammed.

"IT WON'T BUDGE!" spyro shouted, the humming at its loudest.

"Let me help!" Cynder shouted back.

Even with Cynder's help the switch would not budge.

"Still won't move!"

"Let me have ago." Ignitus shouted.

With Ignitus's help the switch began to budge.

"It's working!" Cynder shouted.

"CORE OVERLOAD IMMINENT!" a robotic voice blared

"We haven't got much longer!" spyro shouted.

"I know!" ignitus shouted back.

The city began to power down as ignitus finally shut off the switch. The humming dying down and the ZPM's returning to their normal glow before de-activating.

"We did it!" Cynder said with glee.

"Yeah we did!" spyro smiled.

"POWER DE-ACTIVATED, OVER LOAD AVERTED, SELF DESTRUCT OFFLINE." The voice blurted.

"What a relief." Ignitus breathed a sigh of relief.

"Lets get back to the medical bay." Cynder said.

"Medical bay?" ignitus asked.

"Galinoth was nearly killed battling the Dark Master." Spyro replied.

"The Dark Master, here, now?" ignitus asked.

"Hopefully the Dark Master is dead." Cynder hissed

"Dead, how?" ignitus asked.

"Galinoth killed him." Spyro replied.

They talked about the battle between Galinoth and the Dark Master, ignitus listening with undisguised fascination as Spyro and Cynder got to the part where Galinoth was imbued with the power of light and vanquished the Dark Master.

"There you are." Terrador said as he came across the trio.

"How are you?" ignitus asked.

"I'm fine, where are you going?" Terrador asked.

"The medical bay." Spyro said.

"Why there?" Terrador asked.

"Its where Galinoth is." Cynder replied.

On their way back they found Cyril and told him of the battle. Soon they were back in the medical bay. There was a rapid beating coming from the bed where Galinoth was, Naomi was trying to do something, but by the look on her face, it wasn't working.

"What's wrong with him?" Cynder asked.

"His heart is failing!" Naomi shouted.

"Is there anything we can do to help?" Cyril asked.

After a brief pause Naomi replied.

"I'm afraid there is nothing that can be done, he's going to die." Naomi stuttered.

"What about the viral outbreak?" cynder asked.

"Dont worry about it, i managed to eradicate it before it spread any further." galinoth gasped

"I just wish there was something i could do for you." naomi said

"Its allright." galinoth gasped

"Please dont die." cynder pleaded.

"There is one thing i would like to say before i die, it has been an honour knowing you all." galinoth rasped.

The monitor began to beep more rapidly. And soon, no beeping at all, just a humming.

"He's dead." Naomi stuttered.

Then a strange blue/ white light enveloped Galinoth's body and a strange buzzing sound filled the room.

"What's happening?" Cynder asked, almost afraid to speak.

"I honestly don't know." Naomi replied.

Then Galinoth's body began to transform into a mass of the blue/ white light.

"Now I know, he is ascending." Naomi said. She was clearly awestruck.

"Ascending?" Terrador asked.

"It's where we can shed our physical bodies and become pure energy." Naomi replied.

Soon the mass of energy moved on and disappeared leaving only Galinoth's armour and weapons.

"Where did he go?" Cyril asked.

"I don't know." Naomi replied.

"Will we see him again?" Cynder asked

Naomi smiled before answering.

"More then likely."
