Ever since I became a licensed nurse I've always been a little sensitive towards car accident victims. Considering I lost my husband in a major highway pile up seven years ago. My story begins on December 23rd, 2015 when I was doing my rounds. That's when I met him, Mitchell Bose he came in the night before. He was driving home from work when a stolen twenty foot long moving truck broadsided his car.

The driver had minor injuries and was currently rotting in a jail cell at the county detention center. While Mitchell was pretty banged up and unconscious upon his arrival here. After an hour of surgery he was admitted to my floor for recovery. As I entered his room I leaned down and grabbed his med sheet from the foot of the bed. Flicked through the sheets left by the night shift nurse.

Once I signed it then I set about examining him for any changes and redressing his bandages. All his wounds were healing nicely as I put new dressings and coverings on them. Though as I did my work he shuffled a little as he laid there. Watching him I had to admit for a young coyote mix he was certainly attractive. I felt a pang of guilt pinch at my heart here laid a twenty-one year old man stuck spending the holidays in the hospital.

What bothered me more is that since he came in nobody has come to see him. No parents, siblings, other relatives or even a significant other to see if he was alright. It angered me at the fact no one seemed to care he was in here. A groan followed by a rousing yawn broke my current train of thought. "Well, now I wouldn't mind waking up to such a lovely view every morning." He said with a smile as I looked up into his green eyes.

"You do realize you're in a hospital, Mr. Bose?" I pointed out arching an eyebrow at him. "It seems that you're right nurse, bummer I was having such a nice dream." He said. "Oh, really mind sharing with me?" I wondered. "Let's just say some dreams are cruel and yet some are so vivid. When they're about to end you're laying down besides someone you care for deeply. As you wake up the following morning hoping to be snuggled close to them. Only to find out that person never existed in the first place, it really cuts deep." He informed exhaling heavily.

"Yeah, I've been there more than a few times before I met my husband, Stan." I informed remembering him fondly. Mitchell laid there watching me and almost like he read my mind. "How long has it been since his passing Mrs.?" He asked but, stopped briefly. "It's Ms. Nancy Edwards I changed my name back to my maiden name after he passed away five years ago. I didn't feel comfy carrying his name after his tragic passing it constantly opened up wounds." She said looking away.

"Judging from the way your acting he died in a very similar accident I was involved in the other day." He replied. At first I didn't say anything I just placed my hand on his chest and smiled softly. Once I finished with what I was doing I said my goodbyes and left his room. Portia walked by me in the hall and asked me if I was alright. I asked her to finish that last of my rounds while I went to get some air.

The second the cold air rustled my fur I could feel another pang hit my heart. What was it about that young man that's causing my heart to race and hurt so much? I know it's been seven years since Stan's death but, I refuse find new love. Since no other man that would come into my life would ever be able to sweep me off my feet. Stan was my one an only true love nobody else could ever compare to him.

After a good twenty minutes I couldn't take the cold anymore so I went back inside. "Oh, Hi Nancy it's been a while how are you?" A friendly voice replied as I got onto the elevator. "Hey, Teddy I'm doing alright just tired I have long 15 hour shift ahead of me." I said. "Ouch, just by the way you put it sounds rough. Well, here's my floor if you happen to pop by the cafeteria. You're always welcome to join me for a meal okay, Nancy seeya." Teddy smiled as he stepped out.

"Sure, bye Teddy." I replied as the double doors closed behind him. I knew he meant well but, Teddy wasn't what I truly desired in a partner. Besides he knows that I have no interest in pursuing another relationship anytime soon. As I got back to my duty station Portia was looking from me so I went to speak to her. Sure enough I found her just down the hall a bit in a patient's room.

"Excuse, me Portia you wanted to see me?" I asked poking my head into the room. "Yeah, Mr. Bose wants to see you he feels sorry for upsetting you and wants to make things right." Portia said looking up from what she was doing. "Alright, I'll go see what he wants." I stated rolling my eyes. I walked down the hall to the room by the fire escape. Knocking on the doorframe he allowed me to enter.

Before I spoke I closed the door then approached his bedside when I did he smiled. He reached over took my hand into his then looked right into my eyes. "Ms. Edwards I didn't mean to dredge up old painful memories if there's anything I can do to make things up to you, please ask." He said sincerely. My voice got caught in my throat at that very instant I didn't know what to say.

Finally my mind and voice checked back in as he gave my hand a squeeze. "I...I...It's alright you didn't know and you don't have to go out of your way to make up." I replied stammering briefly. "Please, allow me to do this especially with the holidays just a couple days away." He stated. The look on his face alone was honest and sincere. Naturally I agreed only after he made a full recover and he was discharged from the hospital.

As he smiled deep down in my heart it fluttered and I couldn't help as I smiled back. With that I removed my hand then left his room and went back to my duties. While the day dragged on into the late evening hours I only had about two hours left in my shift. Before going to my bunk for the night I finished the last of my rounds. When I got to Mr. Bose's room he wasn't there to my surprise.

Until I recalled the doctor had discharged him around 3pm this afternoon. So I cleared out his room then put fresh linen down before moving on to the next room. By the time I finished there was about twenty minutes left in my shift. I slowly made my way down to the main nurse's station were we sign on or off duty. When I got there my shift was officially over so I sign off duty.

The first place I went from there was the showers then to my bunk for some sleep. I would've have gone home but, there's too many memories there I wanted to avoid. So I became a permanent resident here at the hospital while my sister and her husband rent my home. Granted I'll be going there to spend the holiday with them. Other than that they pretty much have the entire place to themselves 97% of the time.

After my shower I went to my bunk room, put on some fresh pj's and went to bed. The following morning I awoke around 5am sitting up and stretching. My tail curled up along my back as I yawned in a loud tone of voice. "Oh, do you mind Nancy?" My roommate groan looking down at me from her bunk. "Sorry, it's a lion thing didn't mean to wake you, Brittney." I replied feeling guilty.

Brittney chuckled a little rolled over and went back to sleep a minute later. As for me I got up threw off my pj's and put on a fresh uniform before heading over to the cafeteria. Luckily when I got there the place was almost empty, save for the cafeteria staff. Making myself a light breakfast and some warm green tea then sat down. Granted some hospital food isn't all that great in taste but, here that wasn't the case.

Once I put my dirty dishes into a nearby bin I headed up to the main duty station. As I got there to look at my schedule I noticed I wasn't listed for work at all today. So I went over to see Carlos to ask him why I was put on today's roster. Sure enough when I got there he was buried in his computer working on something. "Does your wife know you're looking at lude images behind her back?" I teased causing him to spin around in his chair to look at me.

"Gah! Blast it Nancy do you delight in giving me heart failure." Carlos barked clutching his chest. "Naturally, if I don't who else will besides you love the attention. Well, there is a reason why I stopped by, mind explaining to me why I'm not listed for any work today." I replied. "Oh, that wasn't my call if you want answers go ask Stella. She's the one that gave me the duty roster for this week." He pointed out.

Now Stella and I are a lot like oil and water we don't get along at all. She doesn't like me and I positively despise that woman, how she ever got a position over me I'll never know. Though I've got a few theories on how she might have done but, I don't have proof. That broad acts like such a cocky slut it just infuriate me. This is a place of healing and recovery not a place to go searching for a rich one to exploit.

One elevator ride later I walked down the hall to her office. I knocked politely on it before she allowed me to enter. The second the door closed behind me and she noticed it was me. She gave me a quick sour look before turning to face me. As she leaned forward in her chair pressing her chest against the wooden desk. "Morning, Nancy what seems to have gotten your tail in a kink this morning?" She asked in a flat tone.

"Normally I wouldn't trouble my self to darken your door but, it's not without reason. Is it true you made the roster list for this week or was it Vince?" I wondered leaning against the door behind me. "Yes, I'm the one responsible for making the roster list for the week. Before you get your tail into a further twist I gave you most of the week off. Due to the fact you worked through the Thanksgiving holiday." She pointed out.

"Oh, lovely now what am I suppose to do twiddle my thumbs in my bunk." I stated sounding very annoyed. "Whoa, hold your horses here I go and try to give you a little time to go out and have fun. This is the thanks I get sheesh this is the last time I try doing you a favor." She replied. "Favor! Just where in the hell do you get off calling this a favor?" I snapped as my tail swished angrily behind me.

"Uh, Listen it's been seven years since your husband passed away. Look he was a good man and you were one lucky woman to have him all to yourself. I don't think he'd enjoy the fact you're isolating yourself from living a happy life" She retorted. "Don't even fucking go there you little dick sampling dyke. You'll never understand what I've been through since he was taken away. Since you've never had a man longer than a day before moving onto a bigger piece of dangling cock." I shot back.

"Alright, Enough Both of You." Vince shouted entering the room from his adjoining office. We both shut up and looked to our left at him standing there rubbing his temples. "Look, I don't care who did what or why this started. The fact is you've been giving time off so go find something constructive to do, Nancy. As for you Stella next time you decide to take it upon yourself to do something that doesn't need your involvement. You had better clear it with me or I'll put someone better suited in your place." He pointed out firmly.

Stella bit her tongue and looked away with a scowl before returning to her desk. As for me I walked out before something else got stirred up or I got yelled at. So now that I officially have time off what to do with myself till later in the week. I went back down towards the resident nurse's floor to spend my time off. When I finally got there I had company waiting patiently by the main desk.

<Oh, great what does he want, I figured when he left I'd never have to lay eyes on him. Granted he's a kind hearted soul with a promising future ahead of him. I better make myself clear before he gets any cute ideas about us being an item.> I thought walking towards him. The closer I got to him I saw his eyes lock onto to me a split second later. Naturally I predicted him to glare at my wiggling ass and bouncing breasts. Surprisingly enough his eyes didn't even bother they just locked onto mine.

He was making perfect eye contact a rather bold move yet very proper even for a young man. <His mother must have raised him to treat women with the utmost respect. Perhaps there's more to him then what people have been led to believe. Let's see just see how noble and respected this young man is before he slips.> I thought. "Hey, Ms. Edwards it's good to see you again." He smiled.

"So what warrants your visit this time? Planning on self injuring yourself just to have me nurse you back to health?" I asked keeping a safe distance from him. "Nope, you did your job too well and I was hoping to help return the favor." He replied. "Just how pray tell do you plan on doing that?" I questioned looking at him intently. "Well, I know on the outside you've healed but, when I look into your eyes. I can tell you've yet to heal on the inside. I'd like to be the person to help you heal on the inside only if you want me." He informed sounding very genuine.

At first I ignored him until I heard the last portion of what he said to me. That seemed to open my ears and strike yet another string belonging to my heart. The one thing to cross my mind was what would he get out of doing all this for me. I intend to find out and the first signs of trouble or underhanded method I'm gone. Of course he's gonna need a stretcher and a very good surgeon.

"Alright, answer me one thing before I agree to anything." I replied sounding a bit unsure. "You're wondering just what I'm going to get in return for helping you, Right?" He replied. "Yeah." I said softly. "Actually, nothing except the possibility of a new friend. Since you made it rather obvious that you don't intend to pursue another relationship. I find it sad you'd make any man rather happy just to have you by their side." He informed.

The more he talked the more I would come to realize there was more to this man. Just how much has yet to be seen and I intend to find out what kind of man I'm dealing with. Though so far he seems very honest and big hearted that would go a long way. When the right woman comes along in the future and she's gonna keep him for good. I'm just hoping this isn't a very good front he putting on just to impress me.

"Well, if that's what you think than perhaps you can show me just how good of a man you are. Granted I'm intrigued so far but, since I'm an older woman my attention can waver. So you're really going to have to wow me real good to keep me interested." I pointed out. "I can guarantee you I'll be perfect but, I can try my best." He said. "Alright, that's good enough for me just give me a moment to change clothes. I'd rather not go out wearing my scrubs I'll be right back Mr. Bose." I replied walking away.

So when I got to my room opening my tiny closet and searched for something simple. Tossing my medical clothes onto the bed then I slipped into the clothes I picked out. Changing my shoes before leaving my room and joining him back at the main desk. As I got closer his eye grew wide as he looked at my attire. Swallowing hard he was left speechless despite the fact I wasn't really trying to impress.

"Something wrong or cat got your tongue no pun intended." I said looking at him funny. "For a lovely mature lioness like yourself to have my tongue tied. Would be perfectly fine by me if you feel the urge to tie me up I certainly won't complain." He said with a sly smile. I had to admit that was a pretty good line maybe tonight won't be so bad. "Bondage, huh so do you prefer shackles, handcuffs or leather strap before foreplay." I teased arching my eyebrows at him.

He blinked a few times in surprise at my statement but, didn't bother to reply. As his white facial fur turned a very vibrant cherry red color while he rubbed his neck. Before he could embarrass him self any further we headed for the visitor's entrance. When we walked out to the parking lot his car wasn't to far away. His car was rather impressive for a 40 year old car he owned a 1970 Amc Javelin.

Stepping over to the passenger side first he unlocked and open the door for me. Expecting to see a pretty used and worn interior gave way to a rather pristine one instead. Apparently he put a little time and money into restoring this car and it showed. So I got in, sat down then he closed the door with a thud. Before he walked across the front of the car the unlocked the driver's side door and got in.

Closing the door he pumped the gas pedal a bit then turned the key and the engine roared to life. The powerful v8 engine idled enough to vibrate the car slightly. I had to admit it felt good to feel the power radiate through the car's frame and my body. Shifting the transmission into gear he pulled out of his parking space then out of the parking lot. I looked out the window while he drove away from the hospital.

About ten minutes later we jumped onto the highway and headed west towards the state capital. It's been a couple of years since I last came to the state capital for anything. So I had to admit I was curious to see what he had planned on this venture. The first place we stopped was the park where a winter festival was going on. I had to admit I'm not a big fan of crowds but, I do enjoy festivals.

We drove around a bit to find a safe parking spot before getting out, locking and closing the doors. I joined him on the sidewalk a moment later then he kindly offered his elbow to me. Looking at him funny I shrugged him off by walking past him. Granted I appreciated the effort but, I wasn't in the mood to be treated like a date. It didn't deter him any he stayed close beside me as we walked towards the park.

Quickly crossing the street while oncoming traffic was light we made our way to the Ticket Booth. Once there I opened my purse and fished out my wallet. By the time I pulled it out he had already paid for my ticket and was holding it out to me. Taking it from him he gently grabbed my hand and lead me towards the craft booths. As we walked up and down the aisles looking at various items for sale.

He stopped at one booth in particular looking at someone that caught his eye. So I kept on going up the aisle while he lagged behind me then I heard my name being called. Naturally I turned around to see him bounding up to me holding something in his hand. "Do I want to know what you bought? Though I'm pretty sure it's a gift for me not to sound ungrateful but, why?" I wondered looking at him.

"Look, I'm trying to loosen you up and you keep biting my head off. You've got to let the past go not every guy is going to be like your ex-husband. Hell, I know I won't be able to hold a candle to the things he's done to make you smile. Though I'd like to try in my own way to at least make a good impression on you." He replied. I took a deep breath and gathered my thoughts before replying.

"I'm sorry I haven't gotten out much recently and that's sorta soured my personality. Sorry, Mr. Bose I don't mean to take it out on you but, I'm just trying to get by on my own. Let me see what you got me anyway perhaps it might lift my spirits." I admitted holding out my hand. He extended his hand towards me and placed the box in my palm. As he pulled his hand away I slowly opened the box.

When I looked inside it was a pair of glass feather earrings with silver inlays. They were beautiful I was amazed at what he picked out for me I couldn't help but, smile. He saw me smile that seemed to take a small weight of his chest knowing things might get better from here. Closing the box I placed it in my purse for safe keeping. Since I would need to get my ears repierced at later date.

With that we kept walking around the various craft shops looking at what they had for sale. I found a few things I knew my sister and her husband would enjoy. So I purchased them and would wrap them up when I got back to the hospital. After wandering around for a bit longer we headed over to the carnival section of the festival. Naturally he asked me if I wanted to go on some of the rides.

Of course I declined explaining that I get motion sickness rather easily on certain rides. So we settled on competing at some of the midway games which turned out to be a lot of fun. Though I got the impression he was letting me win until I saw him really trying to win. I couldn't help but, smile watching him work so hard. Perhaps this wasn't such a bad thing after all and maybe he has some worth also. I'll to find a way to show him my thanks without getting his hopes up to high.

After winning a few prizes I noticed something going on close by. So I grabbed his elbow and brought him over to where a crowd was gathering. When we arrived there was an ice sculpting competition going on four people were competing. Chainsaws were cutting through several piles of large ice blocks into various shapes. There were people walking around collecting donations for a local charity.

So I reached into my purse and grabbed a good handful of loose change. When the lady holding the bucket I kindly gave her all the change I had on me. While he pulled out a ten dollar bill and place it in the bucket then gave her a smile. I looked at him a little puzzled wondering why then it hit me. He must've had a relative that had cancer and this charity help cover most of the expenses.

"Lost in thought over there mind if I inquire why?" He wondered glancing over at me. "Just amazed at the level of kindness to show by donating that ten dollars. Of course I simply assumed you had a relative that might've recently recovered. This charity or another like it helped your family out with some of the expenses." I stated. "Actually, my baby sister was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. This charity helped make her last wish come true before she passed away last, November." He informed looking down at the ground.

I felt a similar energy come from him as he reminisce about her. "How old was she before she passed?" I wondered. "Hmm, she had just turned eight three months before she passed away. Her last wish was to see a romantic play in an old but, famous theatre. The charity did one even better they helped host a private viewing of Romeo and Juliet for her. That gave her the strength to fight for those three months." He said sighing a little.

At that instant I just couldn't help myself I placed my arm on him and pulled him into a tight hug. When I felt his arms wrap around my waist he gave me a gentle squeeze then leaned his head against mine. As we held each other for that brief moment I felt a purr vibrate in my throat. He slowly pulled away and as his eyes looked into mine once again. I saw something I've only seen one other time I saw just how strong the love he had contained within was.

The only other person that felt and looked like this was my late husband, Stanley. Shaking myself silly I stepped back and turned my attention back on the competition. He looked a bit confused but, he simply shrugged it off and resumed watching also. My mind was going frantic fighting tooth and nail with my heart. Here he was trying to help me open up again and logically I didn't want to.

It was going to be a battle my mind would simply not win this time around. As the competition wound down and the contestants began their final adjustments on their creations. Roughly forty-five minutes later all four contestants finished and people were asked to vote. The winner would receive two hundred dollars for themselves. While the donations that were collected would go to a charity of their choice.

We placed our votes and decided to leave before they called out the winner. Walking over to where the food stands were and grabbed something to eat. Nothing to greasy just something light and some semi-cold drinks then found a place to sit. The afternoon dragged on as we enjoyed other things at the festival. As dinnertime rolled around I was ready to go back to the hospital for the rest of the night.

Until he had other ideas but, when a certain suggestion exited his mouth I nearly jumped out of fur. I dragged him back to his car and we drove off to the dance club. It's been some time since I danced last and it was something I've been itching to do for a long time. "Relax, we'll be there shortly you look like you're ready to burst out the window." He commented giggling afterwards.

Sure enough before I could reply we pulled into the club's parking lot. Nearly jumping out of the car I was clearly excited about this and he couldn't help but, smile. Watching me act a few years younger than I actually was. "Well, look at you I must be doing something right you're actually having fun. Maybe I'm not such a bad guy after all, huh?" He said with a smile.

"Hmm, I don't know it's kinda hard to decide the festival was fine and coming here. If I have a good time here I'll give you my opinion after you drop me off at the hospital." I stated playing coy. "Alright, if that's how you want to play then I'm game." He said smiling. Sharing a brief laugh we headed inside the club. Once inside the place was pretty lively despite it wasn't very crowded this evening.

The first thing we did was find an empty table to occupy before heading out onto the dance floor. Taking lead on the floor I held him close and showed him just how good of a dancer I was. When a more lively song came on over the speakers he took charge. Catching me by surprise as he twirled and spun me around. After that we exchanged the lead several times for the next hour or so.

We took a break shortly after and ordered a couple of light drinks while we rested. He started some light conversation with me that I was happy to engage in. A strange feeling came over me as I slipped out of my shoe and rubbed it against his leg. Causing him to jump in his seat as I moved my foot higher up his leg. "What are you doing, Nancy?" He leaned forward whispering to me.

I didn't say anything I merely gave him an innocent look then pulled my foot away. As I slipped my foot back into my shoe he reached over and grabbed my wrist softly. "Wanna go someplace more private since you seem to be rather distracted?" He asked looking at me questioningly. "And just where did you have in mind mister, back at your place? I'd rather go home to my bunk at the hospital if you don't mind. Besides I was merely toying with you to see if your earlier intentions were true." I stated.

"You know something here I try to help someone I find attractive move on. I did my best to help you open up and you decided that all I'm after is a shot to get inside your panties. So you know what find you own way back to the hospital I'm through." He said angrily standing up in his seat. Not giving me a second look he stormed out of the club without so much as another word.

A few minutes later I found a phone, called a taxi and got back to the hospital. When I walked through the front door I couldn't bring myself to look at anyone. I felt like such a bitch for doing that to him when he's been straightforward with me from the start. There was no way I could find him and at least say I was sorry to him. <Unless, I go down to the records department and get his personal info.> I thought turning around. So I hurried my way there hoping someone was still there.

Roughly ten minutes later I got there and sure enough David was hanging around. "Hey, David long time, no see could I ask a favor of you?" I asked walking up to him. "Hi, Nancy it's certainly been a while, sure what did you need?" He replied looking up from his work. "I know wouldn't normally do this but, I need a patient's medical records." I said. "Hmm, you know I can't do that not without the doc's consent. Seeing that look on your face it must be rather important." He replied.

"It is I ruined what might have been a second chance at something special." I pointed out lowering my head. "Nancy, I told you so, so I'll bail you out but, you owe me. Whose medical records do you need, dear?" He smiled. David was always a sweet man his wife Linda was one lucky gal to marry him. "Mitchell Bose he was admitted here roughly 48 hours ago after being in a car accident." I stated.

David wasted no time hoping on the nearby computer and pulled up the info she needed. About ten minutes later he spun around in his chair as the large copy and fax machine beeped. "Here you are my dear the info you need to track him down." He said handing it to me. I leaned up and kissed his cheek then with tip of his head I left. David's payment for random favor is something sweet against his wife's wishes.

So with the info I needed in hand I grabbed a nearby phone and call another taxi. I waited outside for the car to show up a short time later it arrived. Walking over and hoping inside I gave the driver the address and we left the hospital parking lot. Twenty minutes later we pulled out front of his house and sure enough his car was in the driveway. Paying for the ride over, I got out and walked up his walkway.

Taking my time hoping that I could find the right words to say to him. Sadly as I walked up on to his porch nothing came to mind, standing by the front. I noticed the curtains ruffle from the corner of my eye then the door opened. Just enough so that I could see a portion of his face then I looked down. The door closed then opened fully a moment later and he ushered me inside.

Once inside he closed the door behind me that's when I broke down and started crying. Leaving him feeling confused I just couldn't control myself all the pain I had bottled up flooded to the surface. That's when he wrapped his arms around me and whispered into my ears. "It's okay let it out, you go on ahead and cry, Nancy. I'm here till you can't cry anymore and I'll still be around to give you the second chance you deserve." He said softly into my ear.

I lost track of time when I finally regained my senses, I was sitting down and someone was holding me tight. The figure holding me felt very familiar and his voice was soothing me. Nuzzling into his chest I drifted back off to sleep for a good while. By the time I woke up and looked around I was in what appeared to be Mitchell's bedroom. As I went to get up a knock came to the door then it cracked open.

"Hey, how you feeling?" Mitchell replied poking his head inside. "I'll be honest I've had far better days." I said smiling weakly. "I hope you don't mind I brought you some soup and juice. Sorry it's not a fancy meal but, it's the best I can do on a small budget." He stated entering the room. "To me it's a gourmet meal fit for two." I replied as he sat beside me, placing the tray across my lap.

As I went to grab the spoon he placed his hand on mine then leaned his head against mine. Almost like clockwork a soft purr began to grow in my throat as he held me. The meal he brought me was placed on the floor and forgotten as we made love. Our bodies finally joined in the most intimate way known to anyone alive. Long buried lust, passion, and desire exploded within me then flooded to the surface.

In the months that followed that afternoon Mitchell and I married, we're expecting the arrival of twins. During my pregnancy Mitchell took over my duties at the hospital and found he was a natural. While he was away at work I decided to close a chapter of my past. As I stood before a small gravestone of my late husband. Carefully kneeling my eight month pregnant self down next to the stone.

I whispered a silent prayer to the heavens before speaking aloud to the heavens. "Stanley, my love if you can hear me up there, know this I still love you. Until my dying breath my heart belongs to my two children and Mitchell. So in the meantime I ask that you watch over your step children and protect them." I whispered placing a dozen red roses up against his gravestone.

The End.
