A human finds a red squirrel during winter.

Eve

I decided to exercise myself with this contest challenge and see if I can some up with something a bit dramatic. I hope this works out for me.

Donovan opened his eyes as the morning light broke through one of the blinds in his bedroom window and hitting his eyes at the right spot. The dark skinned human sat himself up and gave out a yawn before standing up from the bed, the cool air hitting his mostly nude body save for his boxers. His foot found their way to the floor, where it slipped in the house shoes on the carpeted floor, before he hunched himself up from the bed.

The morning light seemed brighter than normal which meant only one thing. Donovan walked over to the window after going through a small maze of boxes and opened the blinds. The outside showed signs of the first snowfall of the month, the first snowfall that he would experience as a retired restaurateur. Having worked for his father at age fifteen, he managed to go from cooking to owning his father's restaurant five years later to opening three more well successful restaurants around the city and county. The biggest secret to having these restaurants possible is allowing anthro and humans to dine together, with a special section for the anthro that did not like to wear clothing. While some of the human population liked to dine in the nude as well, the number was not as big as the anthro who usually did. After twenty years of working the restaurant business, the human made enough money to sit back and retire even though cooking will never be out of his mind. And with the two story house he just purchased outside the county line, he can work on other things; mostly his figure. While not too chubby, he knew as a cook he had to taste some of the food to make sure they were of good quality.

The view outside seemed wondrous with the earth and trees blanketed by a thin white layer of winter snow. Everything around the area seemed to be white except for an unknown brown ball lying in front of the house back door. Donovan looked at it a couple times before realizing that the ball had fur. Quickly tying his robe closed, he headed down the stairs and around a couple more boxes before opening the back door hoping his worst suspicion didn't come true. The figure was laid a few feet away from the back deck and judging by the amount of snow on it, it was still alive if barely. Donovan stepped out to the fresh snow to pick up the figure gently. "Hey, I got you. I'll place you somewhere safe and warm," he said as he looked to see what it is. Upon closer look, the brown fur is actually reddish with the body frame being smaller than his frame.

While walking back inside the house, the human examined the figure more, finding out that it is a female squirrel. She looks young but most squirrels he has met look young most of their lives. "Here you go. This should warm you up. I will also have food for you," he whispered to her as he set her down in front of the lit fireplace. Once set down, the squirrel stayed in a balled form which may explain her weak stature. Donovan watched her for a minute, thinking what she looks like overall. He brought out a blanket from one of the boxes and placed it on her body, knowing she would be okay there while he went to the kitchen to start on breakfast. Being a cook himself, he helped himself to a nice omelet and oatmeal, leaving some for the squirrel. Once made, he fixed a plate and set it beside the fireplace for her to see it when she comes to and then went back to eating his own food.

After eating, Donovan would go back to unpacking the rest of his boxes, checking on the new guest every now and then. The first couple hours made him concerned when the plate hasn't been touched and the squirrel was still in her form. But then the food started to disappear, giving the human a sigh of relief. He also set down a glass of warm milk for her to drink when lunch came, hoping she will drink it all down before the evening arrived. The checks continued, with the plate being empty as well as the glass but the body itself still at its stiff form. By the time it was time for him to head to bed, he made sure to get an extra blanket on her body to be sure she would be as warm as she would be, adding a plate of food for overnight if she chose to eat it. "Sleep tight. I hope to see you in the morning," he said as he made his way to his bedroom to rest for the night. By the next morning Donovan quickly got up to check on the squirrel. Seeing that she is still curled up beside the fireplace made him smile and the empty plate made him smile more, knowing that she will be okay overall.

The next couple days were just about the same for the two, with Donovan fixing food and making sure she was fed while arranging the last of the boxes. Every now and then he would hear the toilet flush, making him head over to where she would be. But it seemed like every time he wanted to see her, she would remain curled up in front of the fireplace. He knew he was concerned over her but he didn't want to do anything else until he knew that she could trust him.

There was a knock on the door early in the evening, making Donovan look up from his desk at the door. He glanced over to see what the squirrel was doing and she disappeared from the fireplace, making him suspect something was up. He gathered the blankets and plates and set them out of sight before heading to the front door to answer it. When he opened the door, he recognized the figure in front of him. An older, overweight and possibly rich human stood outside, his mustache giving himself away.

"Howdy! Sorry to have interrupted you this evening!" A man that is vocalized with a southern accent; everyone in the city knew him as Mister Barnes, Mr. Timothy Barnes. He did have money in his account and yet there were rumors going about him, bad rumors to be exact and yet no one could prove it. He is also a regular at Donovan's restaurant.

"Mr. Barnes! What can I do for you?" Donovan didn't like the other human much due to the aggressive behavior the rich guy gave towards his workers. But he couldn't really refuse the services because Barnes tipped well.

"Donovan Sanders! Fancy seeing you out here. Looks like your restaurant is going very well if you are here. Nice and quiet this area is. Privacy included," the older gentleman winked before giving a loud chuckle. Anyways, I was wondering if you noticed any runaways passing by this way a few days back. Most preferably a squirrel of sorts."

Donovan gave a light laugh at the privacy statement. With the neighbors spanning out at least a half mile, one could literally do things in the nude, in which is why he wanted the house in the first place. At the question of the runaway, his mind went directly to the squirrel in question. Were they connected in a way? And if so, why did she end up at his house nearly hungry and dead? Following his heart, he decided to not help out the older gentleman. "I actually just moved here not long ago. I hope to enjoy myself out here. As far as who you are looking for, it has just been me here. Me and the boxes I am about to take out tomorrow," he replied as he motioned the other to the number of boxes on the side.

Barnes looked at the boxes and nodded. "All right, I just wanted to make sure. I sure hope she comes back soon. I can't imagine her being dead in the woods. Not like I care anyways." The last part came in a whisper form, hoping Donovan wouldn't notice it.

The cook did notice the whisper but did nothing about it. Instead he smiled and waved at the other. "Yeah, that would not be good if someone found her dead. If I do see her, I will let you know."

"I hope you do, son. The reward would be worth it." Barnes pulled out his business card and handed it to the younger human. "I'm at the end of the road. Call me first before you come over if you do find her. Anyways, enjoy your new home." Another chuckle came from the overweight guy before he turned around and headed to his luxury SUV.

Donovan looked at the business card just as Barnes left the property. He groaned and set the card on the shelf, not wanting to know more about it. Once he locked the door, he made his way to the living room and took a seat at the love seat across from the fireplace. With a loud sigh, he laid his head back and closed his eyes for a moment. He had no idea how long he laid there but the next thing he knew, he opened his eyes to the sight of a squirrel's face, a look of concern and nervousness. "Hello. How are you?"

The squirrel continued to look at the human. Her body is indeed smaller than his, standing at five foot five inches to his six foot three and her weight definitely smaller than his. But may have contributed to what had happened earlier to her. The blink of her green eyes brought focus back on him, wondering how he would react if she did speak to him. "W-w-why did you s-save me?"

He smiled at her, remaining still so that he wouldn't make a move on her. He did admire her body though; small frame, small breasts, youthful look. Everything about her seemed right to him. "You seemed lonely out there and I didn't want anyone like you freezing to death out there," he answered.

She looked at him more, her body easing down a little. She felt that she is going to be safe with him. "He's an e-evil m-m-man. I had to r-run away."

"Don't worry. You will be safe here with me. I am glad to see you eating too. I thought you were hurt. What's your name, my dear?"

The squirrel looked over the human's body. His open robe showed off his toned chest and his shorts started to reveal signs of arousal. Guess it couldn't be helped since she does have a body everyone could look at; especially one like Barnes. She let it go, answering his question. "Eve. And the food... very good. I remember eating parts of it where I was living at." She didn't want to say that the parts were actually scraps but she does recognize the food when she ate from the fireplace.

"Eve. Pretty name. And I am glad you liked my cooking. You can call me Donovan." The more he looked at the squirrel, the more his sexual instincts wanted to take her. Especially since his worked drew him away from any love life in general. Sure, he would go out to clubs and hook up with a female or two but none that really interested him in a future relationship. But there was something special coming from Eve, something that sensed that there would be more from her.

Eve blushed a little at Donovan's statement, looking down at herself. "I'm nothing special. Just an ordinary squirrel. But... I do want to thank you for not turning me to him."

"No problem. I suspected something was up with him when he came here. Hell, I even heard him say he didn't care what happened to you," Donovan stated as he looked at her. Should he dare ask what he has been doing to her? He didn't want to upset her if he asked her but his curiosity was getting the best of him.

The squirrel looked at the human and knew that the question was coming. As much as she didn't want to answer it, she had to get it out of her system. She sighed and climbed on his chest, nuzzling it sadly as she began to talk about how she got here now. It was a slow start but she stated that she was raised in a decent family in a decent neighborhood until she was ten. All of a sudden a few bigger humans barged through her home, taking the whole family with them. To this day she had no idea that her parents were in deep debt and that the collectors wanted her parents and she really has no idea if they are even alive at all. A few days after the abduction she sat in the cage nude where she met Mr. Barnes, who bought her. From that point on she was treated like a slave doing odd jobs for him and then, when she turned fifteen, he used her sexually.

Donovan closed his eyes and tried not to get himself angry over what the old guy is doing. The rumors were indeed true; he is a slave runner. He sighed a little and looked at her. "I see why you ran away. But about him looking for you; what was that about?"

Eve remained on his shoulder at the question. "When I first came in, he had another female turning nineteen. He sold her to a brothel in another country, where anything can happen there. I didn't want to go through that. I... would rather die than go through that. It doesn't matter now. He has two more kids he picked up recently; a brother and sister. I don't even want to know what he has in store for them." She started to cry after that, her tears already rolling down her face.

He had to hug her and he did, bringing her bare furry body to cling to his bare smooth body. "I'm sorry all this happened to you. I can say that this will be the start of your freedom and I will do everything I can to back you up on that." He lightly rubbed her back in a comforting tone, not wanting to move away from her even if his arousal became imminent. He would sit on the loveseat with her all night if she needed it.

Eve continued to cry; not only because she had to go through what she had to go through but also she found the person that would save her from the nightmare and also a human that she could trust. If it wasn't for the food he fixed, she probably would have starved to death in front of the fireplace. She wanted to thank him and yet there was only one way she could do that. A couple sniffles later, she moved her head up and looked at him, her body rocking lightly against his bulged boxers.

Donovan took one look at her glistening green eyes and almost lost it. He had to think about other things before he regretted doing something that would hurt him or her. "I-I have a room set up for you if you want to see it. I figured you wouldn't want to stay in front of the fireplace the entire time," he offered to her, his hips grinding subconsciously against hers where his member was close to poking out from it.

Eve held on to him, listening to his offer while grinding back. Ever since she lived with Barnes, she never had a bed to lie on. It was usually either the cold floor or the carpet on good days and on bad days she would be outside leashed against the porch. She couldn't even imagine what a bed would feel like. "Can you show it to me?" she replied softly, wrapping her arms around his neck.

He could not believe the answer she gave him and with her wrapping her arms around him, the human had no choice but to hold her and take her there. Once he scooped his arms under her rump, he lifted his body from the couch, the weight of her body surprising him first. Unfortunately, at the same time, his member poked out from the front opening of his boxers and grazed the leg of the squirrel. "All right, I will take you to see it." With a low sigh, Donovan smiled at her as he made his slow move to what could be her new room. Each step he took made his member throb and poke against her leg. He knew that she could feel his manhood and he could only blush and continue on but he couldn't see her reaction since she had her head on his shoulder. A minute later and he arrived at the guest room and he didn't blow his load on her. "Here you go, Eve. I think this would work for you."

The squirrel did feel his member bump against her leg as she was carried but this feeling was somewhat different than what she was used to. Something pure about the way she held him and the way she trusted him. Whatever it was, she calmed down a bit more until they arrived at the room. The squirrel looked up from the human's shoulder and looked in the room. While there wasn't much in the room, the bed is what she paid attention to; it looked very inviting. Once she was close enough to get on it, she squirmed a little before feeling him let go and made contact with the soft and cool mattress. A deep purr came from her throat as she cuddled herself against a pillow and closed her eyes, nearly sending her to sleep immediately.

Donovan chuckled and watched as Eve quickly took advantage of the bed, watching her sleep for a few more minutes. He knew that seeing her like that still made his member hard. Thankfully, with her on the bed, he could leave the room and take care of the issue in his own room. But one thing he knew is that she will be on his mind for the next few days when he is doing that.

The next week was dedicated to making sure Eve is living happy and healthy. It included a visit to Donovan's personal doctor, where he stated that she is malnourished but with his cooking, she will be okay in a couple weeks. After the doctor's visit, he took her out shopping for clothes. They both knew that she would rather pose around the house in the nude, but in some places, she needed at least something to cover herself. A few stores passed before ending up in an Asian store, where Eve helped herself to a few kimonos which suited her perfectly and a couple of matching sandals. At the same time, she opened up to him more and more, telling him all about what Barnes has done to her and other people that are in his house over the past few years. Donovan couldn't take any more of what she had to say and told her that there will be payback one day. And after that, they felt more connected to each other.

At the end of the week, Donovan invited Eve to eat at one of his restaurants, in which she clearly took his offer. After showering, something she wasn't able to do either, she pulled out her purple floral kimono set and put it on, adding a spray of perfume on her body. Once she walked out of her room, she went over to Donovan, wearing his usual slacks and polo shirt. She could hear him whistle at her, making her blush.

"You don't have to do that, Donovan," she smiled and tried to hide her face.

"But I have to. It just looks good on you," he replies as he takes her arm. "Ready to head on out of here?"

A few minutes later they were out on the road in his luxury SUV. Eve still could not get enough of the truck, giggling as she messed with the radio, climate control and heated seats which became her favorite part of the truck. She just loved the way it made her rump nice and toasty. She even attempted to sleep in the truck once.

Donovan could only watch and laugh at her antics, enjoying her enthusiasm overall. He really didn't mind her playing with the truck, even if she did break something from it. The drive didn't last long. While he wanted to live in the quiet area outside of town, he still wanted to be able to head to his main restaurant if something came up and he had to mediate the event. Within ten minutes they were back in town and arriving at his restaurant.

Once inside the restaurant, Eve gasped at how it looked inside. The décor is bright and pleasant on the eyes and the whole eating area looked large, even with the dividers on one side of the room. While she followed Donovan, she could see how the workers and patrons alike greeted him and respected him. He really has made a reputation for himself and the city. Once they got a seat near the dividers, she questioned him about it.

"Oh, that. What makes my restaurant different from the others is that I have what they call a nudist eatery, where anyone can dine in the nude." He thanked the greeter once he received the menus, handing one to the squirrel. "You don't have to go there if you don't have to. I have heard of some people go on that side to let out their curiosity."

After another minute of thinking it through, the squirrel decided not to check out the other side. Besides, she liked how she looked with the kimono set. Taking the menu from Donovan, she looked over it and then realized that she has no idea what any of the food look like. "Um... Donovan... I have no idea what to order from here," she spoke softly, looking at him as he glanced over the menu.

The human gave a light chuckle and nods, setting his menu aside. "You can order anything you want, sweetie. I'll even share it with you if you want me to order it," he encouraged her.

Eve thought about it a little more and then agreed to share it yet she will order the food. She settled for a lobster dinner, a spaghetti dinner, a steak dinner and a nacho platter along with lemonade to drink. She wasn't sure if she was going to eat all of it, but she sure did want to try all of them.

Some time later, another figure entered the restaurant, taking his usual seat next to the window so that he can see his car. Barnes visited the pace as much as Donovan but most of the workers there didn't like him yet they had to serve him for whatever he wanted. After making his order he looked around the place to see if he noticed anyone he recognized. The older gentleman found Donovan on the other side of the room along with a figure that seemed to cross his memory. The fact that she had on a kimono made it difficult for him to notice who it was from afar.

The orders came in one by one, with Donovan watching Eve as she took her first bite of the following foods. He smiled as her eyes sparkled upon the lobster with the butter sauce, knowing that she will finish that off before even offering some to him. When the spaghetti came, he nearly giggled among himself as the squirrel took a noodle and slurped it up in her mouth. He had to calm her down after that moment, when some of the patrons started to look their way, letting her know she can do that at his house but not here. There was a whining reply but she knew that what he said would help her out in the future. At least he didn't treat her like Barnes.

At every chance he took, Barnes peeked over at the owner's table. Something about that female is familiar to him and when he caught a glimpse of her happy face, he realized who it was. It was that squirrel he was looking for that escaped! At that point, his mind was settled; get her back by any means. She should not be free from him until he lets her free. With a gruff, the older man stood up and went straight towards Donovan's table.

Donovan had been enjoying a drink of his wine when he heard a shout from across the room. "You bitch! Where have you been?!" He perked over to see who it was shouting when at the same time he felt something cower behind him. He noticed Eve hiding as the older man made his way to the restaurant owner. "Hold on now! Who are you calling a bitch?" the dark skinned human stood up and faced Barnes.

"That thing there! You said you didn't even see her and now here you are with her eating." Barnes gave an angry look at Donovan and growled but changed his demeanor. "I would like to thank you for finding her. I'll take her from here," he started to head to Eve, who continued to hide behind the kinder human.

"I don't think so. It seems that she is done with you." The younger male stepped closer to the older gentleman. "And I believe that you are done here too. I can't have someone like you around copping an attitude like that!"

"No one bans me from a place! I can own this place if I wanted to!" And with that, Barnes threw a punch at Donovan, making the owner topple over a little and exposing the red squirrel to the older man. He glared at the anthro as she started to head towards the kitchen. "You're not going anywhere! In fact, if you don't want to be with me, then you don't need to be here at all! He reached for the gun tucked in the back part of his pants and aimed it at her before firing it.

The next morning Donovan opens his eyes and finds himself surrounded by a white sheet curtain. He looks down and notices he is dressed in a hospital gown before turning to his right to see a sleeping squirrel and one of his employees, a blue dragon. "Ohh... Tamir, what happened?"

"Hey boss. Good to see you up." The dragon smiled and looked at Eve. "You saved her life while banning one of the richest people from the restaurant." Tamir explained how Donovan dove just in time to shield her from the bullet from Barnes' gun that hit his right shoulder. The shot and the screams brought out Tamir as well as two other cooks, big tall bears, and they took care of Barnes 'in their own way'. "And then, to make things worse when the cops came, out of this guy's trunk was two smaller kids; no blanket or anything and they looked malnourished. Your date here recognized them and claimed them as hers. They are in the pediatric ward upstairs."

Donovan groaned and nodded as he listened to Tamir. "So that there should tie him with the child slavery charge as well, right?"

"Oh yeah. We all knew he was up to something. And the mug shot... well, he needs to get out of the hospital first." That made the two laugh, which woke up Eve.

"Donovan!" She went to him and hugged him, making him cringe a little. "Oh, sorry. Forgot about that."

Donovan didn't mind at all about the squirrel or the pain he is enduring. "Don't worry about it. I am glad you are okay. Tamir here told me everything. Hopefully this will be the official start of your new life as well as the other two kids." He brought her to a kiss before laying back to relax more.

Two months have passed since the incident. Even though Barnes was rich, there was no way he would have gotten away with the slavery charge and under further investigation he had started a child slavery ring at another place a few years after he obtained Eve. That right there led him to a lengthy sentence.

Things are looking better for Donovan, Eve, and the two new additions; Jacob and Janet, twin white foxes that were in the trunk of Barnes' car. After a clean bill of health, the twins were officially adopted to the newly engaged couple. And with the last snowfall of the season, the twins got to experience snow in a different way, making snow angels and snowmen. And from the porch of the house, Donovan and Eve smiled as they watched the kids with Eve holding her lightly bulged belly.
