Chapter 10: The dragon rule

They had walked for a short while when they got to a large cave entrance where multiple dragons could fit and easily fly in and out without error. The entrance was hidden deep within the mountains; Ramirez was surprised it didn't take longer to reach it through the rough terrain. They had traversed over ledges just above what looked like a bottomless pit, but basic logic makes that impossible. Ramirez had for the past years seen logic as one of his best friends, but he had been taught that you never truly know something unless you know its opposite, which in this case would be magic that defies all logic. He thought it was funny, how magic and logic could go so well together, you could apply logic to magic, but not magic to logic, a good example is that with a dimensional pocket you can have a bottomless pit, but logic says that the amount of magical energy necessary to create and maintain said rift would be of any known charts.

Ramirez was highly interested in magic and logic, and so was Na T'hel, she thought that magic was logical, as dragons were beings of magic, it wasn't just logical to them; it was their lives, their very existence. It was widely known that no species knew magic as dragons know it, it was said among the dragons that they were created by Apostle and Hierarch, two o-f their gods, for protecting the deepest secrets of magic. That was another thing Ramirez found fascinating about dragons. Their religion had followers all over the world, amongst all species, he himself believed in these gods.

Before he knew it he looked up at a bright blue sky with white clouds dotting it, but it seemed off, and when he focused his eyes on it, he both felt and saw it. There were ripples across the sky, making it seem almost like a pond of water during a light drizzle, small ripples on the water's surface, tiny waves across the pond, but it was a shield, protecting and hiding the dragon's valley from unwanted outsiders, such as himself. This was where the dragons ruled, their land and here they followed their rules, he had heard some grim stories about this place, and others very soothing and inviting, now he would personally see which stories where more correct.

He realized that there were a lot of different species; he had seen beasts, avians, dwarves, elves and the occasional human, but mostly dragons. He looked back at Na T'hel who had stopped to talk to a dragnar, a crimson and orange one who basically steamed magical energies, the dragnar glanced at him, his eyes were orange, like the thick skin that made up his wings, he looked angry, but also relieved, maybe he knew Na T'hel. Ramirez stopped and one of the guards sneered at him, he only looked into the guards eyes, who suddenly backed off a few steps and looked away.

Na T'hel returned to his side and nodded once, she looked a bit worried, she was worried about what the council would say about Ramirez, he had shown great magical capabilities and courage, but he had been branded a criminal, a murderer and would probably question his motives. Especially as his father was the famous Dragon Lord Meera, but she wouldn't mention that, and hoped that Ramirez wouldn't either. But she was curious as to whom that dragon he mentioned was, not many lived outside of the dragon holds, only a few and not any famous or superbly strong ones. But to think that a dragon would do such a thing, it reminds her that dragons can be evil too, just like anyone else. The Great War proved that more than anything else, she shook and cleared her head, it wasn't something she liked the think about. They continued to walk.

Eventually after another silent while they came up to the foot of one of the surrounding mountains, it had a pathway into the mountain, there where draconic runes above and around the entrance, he had learnt to read some draconic. Na T'hel bowed to the entrance, lowering her head close to the ground, as did the guards, Ramirez bowed as well, the runes read "The dragon rule a path to peace and light", he figured that the soft candle like lightning inside was there for a reason, and by the fact what the sentence could and did mean, this was the entrance to the council chambers, from where the hold was ruled. The presence that he had been feeling, it worried him, it had to be a guardian, no doubt of it, but he wouldn't be afraid nor would he hesitate.

He had been told that the guardians where the strongest beings alive, many of them had lived through thousand years, which for a human as himself seemed not just impossible, but was also unthinkable. Na T'hel looked worrying at Ramirez, she knew who that menacing presence was, and she knew that Ramirez was worried; she could see it on his face, in his silver eyes. Now that she thought of it, she had never heard even less seen another human being with silver eyes such as his, it frightened her a little. Ramirez must've noticed it, because he smiled and looked at her, she felt calm again, but she knew this human was a one of a kind, with his deflection of magic, telepathy and last but definitely not least, was the son of the dragon lord, Meera. She smiled back, he really made her calm and she didn't know why, she felt comfortable.

"This is the human, he who you mentioned?" The dragon who spoke was almost twice Na T'hels size with bronze scales and yellow, piercing eyes, no presence oozed from him as it did from everyone else in the room, no one could feel this dragons magical energy. His voice was like rumbling thunder, his eyes where ablaze. Na T'hel bowed to the dragon and sighed happily, "Father, I have returned"
