Chapter 5: A soft bed

As he stepped in the first thing that struck him was the warm light that filled the lobby, a single light orb was on the lobby desk, but it spread its warm light in the entire room, just to his left were two chairs on a green carpet, with a small table in between them. There were no one in the reception, the desk was plain, on it was a single bell, and he rang it. "Coming!"

Someone yelled across the inn, the voice was definitely female though, from a door behind the desk came out a woman, she wore plain clothes, her hair was red, and her eyes deep green. In fact the entire lobby was plain, nothing of the fancier stuff, the windows, the chairs, the tables, so plain, felt nice. "Want to rent a room?"

She sounded busy, so he thought he'd make this quick. "Yeah, I'd like to rent a room, can I pay when I leave?"

She turned to a small cabinet behind her, she had all sorts of thing in there, alongside a box, which she took out, and opened. She took a key from it, and handed it to Ramirez, it was marked 02.

"Up the stairs, to the left, second door. You can pay when you leave."

She closed the box and put it back into the cabinet and walked back in the door she came out.

He walked up the stairs, and came up in a corridor, second door to the left, he turned left and walked to the second door, and the numbers 02 were engraved on the lock. He put the key in and twisted it, he could hear the lock open, and he opened the door. The room was small, a chandelier hung from the ceiling, there was a single window, and he could see the taller houses in the newer part of town. The bed stood in the middle of the room, it had a blue sheet and two white pillows. He sat down on the bed; it felt nice and soft, compared to the tent he had slept in the past two weeks. He took off his bag and put it besides him, he took out his satchel with water, and another, larger leather sack. It was where he stored food for travels, it was sealed using magic, no air could pass in our out, making it ideal for storing food, it felt cold to the touch. He opened it and took out some leftovers from his hunt the past day; he had dumped his old tent and was planning on getting a new one, a better one.

He finished his meal, and drank some water; he then put everything back in the backpack, and put it on the floor. He then lay down; he didn't bother with taking of his clothes because he was too tired so he fell asleep.

He awoke to voices from downstairs. "Yes he is upstairs, the second room on the left, to think he did such a thing..."

It was followed by the sound of steel boots smashing against wood, they were in the stairs. "Shit, they know?"

He sat up hastily and reached for his bag and put it on his back, the footsteps were outside the door. "Bash this door!"

Three men clad in the same steel armor as the guards had, bashed through the wooden door, and a Dragoon.

"That's the man! He's the one who killed two of my men, and saved the Dragon!"

The three guards were on the ready with their swords.

"You're trapped, you will be detained and..."

Before he could finish Ramirez turned to the window and jumped through it. He covered his head with his forearms not to get the glass splitter in his eyes. He saved his fall by rolling as he hit the ground; he saw one of the guards leaning out the window. "He jumped out the window, get him!"

Suddenly more guards came running after him from the inn, he turned tails and started running to the closest gate, he could see it already, and he just hoped he could get there before they managed to close it. He ran for his life, people on the streets stood out of his way, a group of guards came running from in front of him, he stopped abruptly, and ran into a small alley, and hopefully he could lose the guards behind the buildings. He was wrong, there were guards already here. He looked around himself to find a way out, no doors, no open windows, no room to get enough speed blast through the windows, up? The buildings were close together. "Stop! You've violated the law..!"

He faced the guard that yelled at him. "Or what? You're going to capture me?!"

The guard answered with an angered shout. "Like we will let a murdered go so easily!"

Ramirez smirked. "Kid, you're not thinking up, are you?"

The guard stopped for a second, and then started to approach him, as did the guards behind him. Ramirez took a leap towards the wall, and did a chimney jump and grabbed the opposing building's roof. He took a quick look down on the guards, and then ran towards the gate on the roofs.

They had now started to close the gates.

"Shit."

He ran faster, jumping over the small gaps in between the buildings. He was nearly there, and the gates were nearly closed. He got closer to the main road of the town, the buildings were now further apart and he had to jump down on the ground. He was just at the gates, he got through just as they closed, only to find out that outside, stood more guards, alongside James.

"Ramirez, I thought you were a good man, not a murderer. Give up now and don't put up a fight, don't draw this out more than it needs to be."

He had no choice, he hadn't had time to pick up any of his weapons back at the inn, he was defenseless, he was done, and he had gone straight into the trap.

"Shit..."
