One Strange Christmas [Day 3]

The night again was over and another day took its place. Zapper and Rudolph were sleeping together. The red-nosed reindeer was sleeping curled in a ball. Next to him Zapper was sleeping with his head on Rudolph's back. Both were snuggling and cuddling in their sleep, without even realizing it.
The first one to wake up this time was Zapper. He yawned and looked down. He trembled.... Right below him was Rudolph sleeping peacefully... And the cute reindeer opened his eyes. Zapper was like hit with a hammer, he couldn't move or speak.
Good morning Zapper - Rudolph smiled - Did you sleep well?
Oh... Yeah, I was just checking on you to see if you were sleeping. That's right! Just checking - Zapper stood up and tried to hide that he was blushing. It was really embarrassing for him to find himself in such a pose. Yes, he liked Rudolph, but more like a brother than something else.
Well I'm not sleeping. Looks like a nice day outside.
Nah, it's cloudy.
Nice - Rudolph also stood up - This means that finally winter is here. I'm so bored from those sunny days...
Yeah, I've heard about something called global warming, That the ice is melting, blah,blah blah, getting warmer, blah, blah and more blah. Since day one in here, I'm always freezing.
He-he You're funny - Rudolph laughed - It's not cold here. Don't you have fur to protect you?
I have but where I come from there is never that cold and there is no snow.
And where is that? - Rudolph was eager to know.
Oh it's really far away. Would you like to know more about me?

Ok, let's go to the town. While we walk there I will talk about me, but in return I want you to talk about your past.
Rudolph stopped to think.

And Zapper started talking about his homeland and about his life.
I'm from a country far to the Southeast. The climate is nice. Half of the time is warm, the other is cold. Not cold as here, but still cold. We have four seasons each lasts three months. First is winter
Here is winter all the time - Rudolph was really interested in the story.
Yeah, so we have winter, spring, summer and autumn. In spring the snow melts and flowers start to grow. Everything is covered in green. In summer is hot. Very hot and there is no more snow. The sun is burning everything living down there. It's hard to breath and you are sweaty all the time, so I don't really like this season much. The last season is autumn. The green withers and is painted in yellow, red and brown. It is a nature masterpiece. The leafs and the grass and just everything is beautiful. Then again is the winter. The world gets covered in snow. That's how the seasons repeat.
It sounds like the loveliest place in the world. It is so much better that this winter here all the time.
Yup, it's gorgeous. Now it's time for my back-story. I was born in the autumn. My parents were really poor, so I never had any warm clothes.
Clothes?? -Rudolph was surprised
Oh did I say clothes? I mean toys. Never had any warm toys, only metal and wooden stuff, nothing plush.
I have a plush bear. - Rudolph was thinking out loud
Cute but can you please let me finish my story? Ok now where was I? They were poor, so poor that we didn't have any food to eat.
But reindeers eat grass...
Just let me finish alright? I am telling the story, not you. So we didn't have any money to buy high class grass like everyone else.
But grass grows on ....
-OH, That's it! No more stories for you. - Zapper started to move faster totally ignoring Rudolph who was surprised.
Hey please slow down, I promise I wont cut you off anymore, please continue. - Zapper slowed down.
Alright. I believe you. We were poor and it was a miracle for me to enter the school. They wanted me to work and earn money, but I wanted to learn. In my class there were a lot of rich kids. They were mean to me because I never had the newest books like them. One day, one threw at me money and said: "Ha-ha-ha catch this! Have you seen so much money in your life? Well now it's your chance." The worst thing is that I actually took them, because I had nothing.
Rudolph opened his mouth to ask how you can pick money with your hoof, but the killer look on Zapper's face stopped him.
- *cough* Soon after I graduated I left my family to work. My dad was a drunkard and my mom was lazy. Their wage was under the minimum, and that's why we never had enough money. Now I was the only one who could bring more money in home. It didn't take long until I was hired by a group of really smart peoples. Now I live happily. I have money for the rest of my life, but I don't think they are that important. Since my childhood, I learned how to live with no money at all. My parents are no more among the living, so I'm all alone. This is it, my story. I'm here, trying to find my inner self. Your turn - Zapper smiled
Rudolph stopped.

Ouch, ok I will talk, don't hurt me ha-ha-ha - Rudolph's laugh was nice. - I don't think anyone knows much about my life, not even my parents. I was born here, in the Santa village. My life was sad... When I think about it... Makes me want to cry... Maybe you find my nose cute, but for everyone else it's just a joke. I was born with that red nose, and since my birth I was a laughing-stock. First were my father's friends. I'm sure even he was embarrassed to have such a child, so different than the rest... Maybe at the beginning was not so bad. I was still little, not knowing about why everyone laughs. Why the elfs were pointing at me? Why the other reindeers were trying to ignore me and stay far as possible? It was a mystery for me, but as I grew up I understand it. It was because of the red nose. And then the school began. My life turned to hell. My classmates were just bullies. They were hitting me with their antlers, laughing and acting all mean and mighty. All those names they were calling me... That I should got to the circus and be a clown for the rest of my life, that I can stop the traffic, chat I belong on the Christmas tree... But did I give up? No, I never did, and continue going to school. No matter how bad my life is, there is always a hope, or that's what I was thinking back then. Every few years there are the Reindeer Games where Santa may chose one lucky reindeer to pull his sleigh. The best thing was that every reindeer can join no matter how it looks. My dream was to win the games. Then once and for all everyone would stop laughing at me. School was over, and I was happy. No more bullies, no more pain, no more crying in bed... And I joined. Joined the games! And that's when the worst moment of my life happened. I was too exited from joining the games, to realize that I won't be the only reindeer. All the other bullies were there too. They were participating. And right on the first game with the sleight race, they all fall right from the start, letting me win. That moment I never even through of what would happen. It was suspicious that they let me win, but... I'm not cold hearted like them, I trough that now after school is over they may have finally realized how bad they were treating me and that's why they let me win. But no, just no, they did the most disgusting thing ever. They said I was cheating, that my glowing nose made them crash, that I was using it to win, and that I never succeeded in anything in life without cheating. They all said that they were keeping my bad attitude in a secret, so my parents won't be sad. They didn't want to break their hearts because "his mom and dad only knew about his "good" side". And do you know what??? They believed them! They actually throw me out of the games, like I was something filthy. - Rudolph stopped. One tear rolled down his cheek - That night I escaped. For hours I was running in the snow with no direction. Ended up around here. From that day, I was living in caves alone with my own thoughts. One week passed, and from nowhere few elves appeared. They were a search party. I couldn't believe it, but they were searching for me. My parents with couple of teams were looking for me the entire time. That moment I couldn't believe my eyes. I was happy that there is someone that actually cares for me. I was so stupid to run away like that, totally forgetting about the feelings of my family. The elves took me back to the city. On the way there a blizzard appeared. It was strong and the snow was hitting us in the face as me moved forward. The path was gone and we were stranded with no way back. The visibility was low. And just then, I showed my inner self, my true one, the one that was kind and helping. My nose shined so bright that it cut right trough the raging snow storm. I wished I could help the elves, so everyone to be home and safe that how this miracle happened. Because of my nose they were saved. But when I was back, they were not the only ones who were out. Three more teams and my parents were out there. While everyone was cowering in their houses, I used my light to bring everyone back. It was freezing, and the blizzard continued to push me back, but I never stopped even for a moment. That's how the entire day and night passed. I never give up for a moment there. One after another, I returned with the teams that were stuck in the snow. Something inside me, was telling where to find them. Finally were my parents. They were pushed from the blizzard next to and edge. Without seeing they could fall right down into oblivion, but my nose bathed in light everything around them. From a zero, I was a hero. My parents were safe, and the entire village was happy. On top of everything, Santa was there too. He pet me and said: "Rudolph, You did something amazing today. This blizzard isn't getting weaker, any time soon, so I have to ask you a favor. Won't you guide my sleight tonight?" Yes, that day was the Christmas night. Days sure fly fast when you live in a cave... Since that day on, I was known as the Lead Reindeer of Santa. My red nose would light the way, every single year. Now there are still those who laugh about my nose, but they do it in secret, because for everyone, I'm a hero. Well, this was my story - Rudolph smiled - Never trough of talking about this with someone. It's really nice to let everything out.
I am happy to know you trust me so much - Zapper smiled too, then he went to Rudolph and put his head on his shoulder like in a hug. - If I had hands instead of hoofs, I would totally hug you. - Rudolph Blushed. - Your past made me sad, we should do something fun.
What are you suggesting Zapper?
Hmmmmm... lets see... - Zapper looked left, then right. He stopped his sight on bunch of tree bark. A grin appeared on his face. He went to the bark and put his hoof on it. - Hey Rudolph, do you know how to ski?
Nope... teach me? Whatever ski is, I would learn it - Rudolph put his challenging smile on.
Great, follow me. - Zapper grabbed the pieces of bark with his mouth and went to the snowy hillside. - So now I will show you what to do. Do you see those pieces of bark I dropped here? Step on them and follow me. - That moment Zapper disappeared. Rudolph almost got a heart attack. He run to the edge just to see the reindeer sliding down the slope. - Ah you sly fox - Rudolph said to himself, then started sliding too. The race was on.
Both reindeers were sliding from one slope to another on the never-ending heels. There were no trees or rocks so the chance of crashing was minimum and the chance for fun was at the max. Soon after some challenging maneuvers, Rudolph passed Zapper and left him far behind. Again there were no winners or losers. Rudolph first fell in a pile of snow, followed by Zapper who through that it would be a good idea to just land right on him. Both now looked more like snow bunnies with horns than a reindeers. The both started laughing, and that sound echoed trough the ear, causing an avalanche at the near mountain. The two reindeers looked at the dense show wave.
Good thing that we chose to slide here. If we were there, instead of being covered in snow, we would be covered by heavenly light.
We can still be covered in light if you want - The nose of Rudolph shined and Zapper was covered in red.
Ha-ha - Zapper laughed sarcastically. - Ahhhh it's so bright, you're melting the snow. Do you want so much to turn me into an icicle?
Hey stop saying such mean things about my nose you big bad snow covered bully. - Rudolph jumped on Zapper and they both started fighting in the snow. Fighting and laughing together.
Later that they, they finally reached the village together side by side, bonded by the adventures they had, more knowing about each other. Zapper knew so much more about Rudolph and was feeling so much closer to him. Rudolph, on the other hand, also knew stuff about Zapper, but there was still something. He felt it, but he never asked. He liked Zapper for his personality ad he did not care about his real past.
They both entered Rudolph's house. Started the fire, and went near it to warm themselves.
It was really a long day... - Rudolph sighted - Never had such fun in ages.
And I never had such fun in my entire life.... Hey do you want to sing you a song? I made it, and is one hundred percent original!

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Had a very shiny nose, And if you ever saw it, You would even say it glows.
_All of the other reindeer Used to laugh and call him names; They never let poor Rudolph Join in any reindeer games.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say, Rudolph with your nose so bright, Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?
Then how the reindeer loved him As they shouted out with glee, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer_

- Oh geee... I mean thanks, I love you too - Rudolph smiled, then he snuggled in Zapper and they both little by little fell asleep hugged in each other
