Hate and Faith Part 1

This was supposed to be a short story, but I just couldn't work it out. So, I've made it into a mini series that will have at least 4, maybe 5 parts. I warn you now, it may get a little extreme and also has Religious themes to it.

They say it's always the quiet ones. And there was no one quieter than Tristan Schaefer. Tristan was a Timber Wolf, only 17 years old. He was known to keep to himself but had a reputation for being a nice young man. He went to church with his family every Sunday, got mostly A's and B's in school, and was polite to just about everyone he spoke to. Humans and Anthros alike saw nothing wrong with him, possibly because they did not see him for who he really was. Tristan could hold onto any secret, no matter how classified, but this is only to be expected of someone who can be so quiet, isn't it?

Tristan was walking home from school like he would any other day, nothing out of the ordinary. He had just passed the local bakery when he heard someone running behind him.

"Tristan! Hey Tristan!" a voice called. Tristan turned around to see a Fox running to him. It was Alyssa, a classmate of his. He smiled as he usually did when he saw someone he knew and waved.

"Hi, Alyssa. How are you doing?" he politely asked the young Vixen.

"I'm doing pretty good! I was just wondering if you were doing anything this afternoon." Alyssa said, catching her breath. Tristan looked at his watch; 3:14.

"I'm free until 7 tonight, why?"

"Well, I just thought maybe we could hang out. You know, like when we were little?" Tristan and Alyssa used to play together all the time when they were younger. By the time they had started middle school they had gone there separate ways, but now they were seniors in high school and saw each other a little more often. But they hadn't really done anything together since they were in elementary. Tristan smiled and nodded.

"Sure, that sounds like fun. It'll be good to catch up again." Alyssa smiled.

"Great! How about a donut, since we're already at the bakery?"

"That sounds nice, let's get some donuts." The young Anthros went into the bakery and each got themselves a donut and found a table to sit at.

"So how have things been, Tristan? I feel like we haven't talked in ages."

"It has been a while hasn't it? I've been doing well, school's going ok, and my family's all and well. I guess there's not much more to it." Tristan said as he bit into his donut.

"That's always good to hear. Are you doing any activities anymore? I remember in middle school you did that robotics clubs." Alyssa asked. Tristan chuckled with a blush.

"Yeah, I remember that. I am in a group now; I guess you could call it a political group."

"Really? Are you thinking of going into politics after school?"

"Something like that. So how about you? How are things?" Alyssa put down her donut and twiddled her thumbs.

"Oh, they're ok I suppose. School's going well I guess..."

"Is that all?" Tristan teased. He knew she had more to say.

"Well, recently I became a born again Christian."

"Really? That's interesting. What brought you to that?"

"Well, my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago. I went to visit her in the hospital and she looked so bad I got on my knees and cried. But through the sobs I heard a voice; it said 'Alyssa, your grandmother is going to be alright. She is strong in her faith, and the Lord will give her strength to overcome this.' I looked around and there was nobody else in the room except for grandma, but she was sleeping. Then I looked out the window and saw a dove holding what looked like a leaf in its beak. It looked at me for a moment then flew away. Then a doctor came in the room holding a clipboard with a strange but happy look on his face. He said that grandma's test results had come back, and that the tumor was gone; her cancer had literally disappeared. I knew right then and there that it was the work of God. And since then, I've become a follower of Jesus Christ."

"Wow, Alyssa, that's great! We should all aspire to follow Jesus, and it sounds like you've really accepted Him into your heart." Alyssa blushed and looked down at the floor.

"Yeah I guess so. I've been volunteering with the children's Sunday school and Jr. High youth group at my church. Ever since I gave my heart to Jesus, I just feel so much better, like all the time." Tristan smiled and began telling Alyssa some of his own testimonies. The two continued to talk for a while, really about anything that happened to come to mind. Hours passed until Tristan finally glanced at his watch; 6:45

"Oh wow time goes fast. I'm really sorry Alyssa, but I've got to go."

"That's ok; we've been here for hours as it is. It was good talking to you Tristan; maybe we could do this again sometime?" she asked. Tristan offered a gentle smile.

"Id like that. I'll see you at school tomorrow?" Alyssa giggled with a wink.

"You know it!" Tristan waved goodbye and exited the bakery. He made sure he was out of view of the bakery and began running.

"I hope for my own sake I'm not late!" He shouted at himself. He ran with all his might and looked at his watch one more time; 6:52. He ran even faster. Whatever it was he was attending, he was going to be certain he was there on time. He ran so far that he reached the edge of town where the fields met the pavement. He walked to a small, beaten old shed that looked like it could fall any day. Inside, he felt around on the floor until he found a small hole. He lifted up a large plank of the floor board to reveal a staircase. He made his way down the steps carefully; it wasn't in any way lit, at least until he reached the bottom. There was a black door and a dim light bulb. He knocked on the door twice and a slot opened, revealing two yellow eyes.

"Kennwort?" It grumbled in a menacing tone.

"Lang liebe Deutschland!" Tristan responded. The slot closed and the door opened. Tristan walked inside and heard the door close behind him. A large German Shepherd stood with his hand on the door.

"Cutting it a little close, aren't we Untteroffizier Schaefer?"

"Not a moment too soon, Hauptgefreiter Herrmann. Have we started yet?" Herrmann stepped in front of Tristan, who followed.

"Not yet. We were waiting for last minute arrivals. Turns out you're the last one."

"I must apologize to Herr General later." Tristan smacked his forehead.

"Don't worry; he doesn't know you're the last one to show up. Just don't make it look obvious and you'll be fine. Now, get into your uniform quickly, I'll stall for you and tell the others there are still some Soldaten on their way." Herrmann held the locker room door open for Tristan.

"Thanks, Sven. I owe you one." Tristan rushed to his locker and quickly put on his Untteroffiziers uniform. He topped it off with his hat and slipped the dreaded red armband up his left arm. He casually exited the room and made his way down the main hallway. It was an intricate system of under ground tunnels he was in, but he knew his way around. He came to the main hall where two human Soldaten saluted him. Tristan nodded and the boys put there hands back down at rest. He entered the main hall to see many people present, mostly humans, but Anthros as well, mainly German Shepherds and Doberman Pinchers. All were wearing their uniforms; commissioned and non-commissioned officers sat at theirs seats towards the front of the room, the enlisted men behind them. As an Untteroffizier, Tristan would sit in the front with the other NCOs, but still behind the COs. He found a seat next to his close friend Feldwebel Martin Fleischer, a Doberman Pincher.

"Look who decided to show up!" Martin joked as he shook Tristan's hand. "I think Herr General Adler is going to start soon."

"Good, I got here just in time then. Any idea what he's going to talk about tonight?" Tristan inquired.

"I don't know, but it must be big because everyone was called to be here." Martin deduced. A human dressed in officer's clothing walked up onto the stage in the front of the room and yelled into a microphone.

"Achtung!" everyone in the room faced the stage in attention. Two large red flags suspended from the ceiling unraveled on both sides of the stage. The officer raised his right hand into the air and shouted.

"Sieg!" Everyone else raised their hands in the same manner and shouted back.

"Heil!"

_ "Sieg!"_

_ "Heil!"_

_ "Sieg!"_

_ "Heil!"_ The room went silent for a moment before a music recording started playing. With hands still lifted, everyone in the room began to sing.

_ _

"Deutschland, Deutschland über alles, Über alles in der Welt, Wenn es stets zu Schutz und Trutze Brüderlich zusammenhält. Von der Maas bis an die Memel, Von der Etsch bis an den Belt, Deutschland, Deutschland über alles, Über alles in der Welt!"

_ _

_ _ The hands went down to everyone's sides as they stood at attention. A large portrait of Adolf Hitler was carried in by two Soldaten and hung on the wall behind the officer on stage.

"Sitz euch." The officer on stage commanded. All took their seats. "You were all called here today to hear a great announcement. Herr General Adler will be here shortly to share with you his good news, and I want it made clear to him that you understand the importance of this, is that clear?"

"Ja, Herr Generalleutnant Eisenberg!" All said in unison.

"Sehr gut." A Soldat ran up on stage and whispered into Eisenberg's ear. He bore a twisted grin and nodded. "Steh auf! Herr General Alder is here!" A stout man wearing a German General's uniform walked onto the stage appearing from nowhere. Everyone in the room stood and raised their arms in salute.

"Heil, Hitler! Heil, Adler!" they all shouted. Adler raised his right hand in receiving the salute and took his place at the microphone. He had a rather confident smile on his face.

"Guten abend, meine fruenden. I bear wonderful news for us all tonight. As you all know, I started this "Army" of ours a few years ago, and we have certainly grown in our ranks. But we have been meeting here on the outskirts of this tiny town for too long. It is time to make ourselves known once again!" The crowd cheered. "We will make the people of the world know that we are still here! That the work of our glorious Führer is not yet complete!" the crowd cheered louder. "WE WILL RID THE WORLD OFF ALL IMPURE "SUB SPECIES"! The crowd went nuts. They were all standing, clapping and shouting. They began raising their arms and praising "Sieg Heil!" Adler raised his hands, silently telling them to calm down. "Very soon, the nominations for United States Congress will begin. I believe the best way for us to come back is to get myself elected into the Senate." More cheering. "There will be a parade in the state capital city this weekend. I have already made certain that we will march in that parade, and I do mean march." More cheering. "Everyone in our Army will march, with me riding behind in convertible, making my run for Senate known to the people; much like the Führer did before us. I will make sure we have everything we will need to proceed. I expect everyone to be there. This will be a glorious day, the return of the Nazi political party!" Adler raised his hand. "Sieg Heil!" the crowd all stood and did likewise.

"Sieg Heil!" they returned. Everyone started going nuts again.

"Excellent!" Adler shouted. "Now go, return home and prepare for our return! Meanwhile, I'd like to speak with Feldwebel Fleischer, Untteroffizier Schaefer, and Hauptgefrieter Herrmann." Martin and Tristan looked at each other and gulped. They had both been late to several meetings, perhaps now they were going to be punished. Both got up and met up with Sven at the gathering hall's exit.

"What do you suppose this is about?" Sven asked, as if he didn't already know. After all, he was the doorman. "Maybe I shouldn't have been covering for you two, I wouldn't be in this mess."

"Oh come on Sven, we don't even know what this is about." Martin puffed. Tristan sighed.

"Let's just get this over with." The canines walked together down the many tunnels to find the Generals office. A guard saluted them and pressed a button on the intercom on the wall behind him.

"Herr General, die Menschendarstellungen you wanted to see are here."

"Sehr Gut, send them in." The guard opened the door and nodded. Stepping inside the Generals office, the three removed their hats and held them at there sides. Adler's office resembled that of a classical German Chancellor's, very neat, clean, and brown. On the wall behind his desk hung a portrait of Adolf Hitler as well as a golden eagle holding a swastika. A record player sitting on a stand in the corner was playing classical German music, Bach to be exact.

"Guten abend, meine fruenden." Adler spoke in a gentle tone. He removed his hat, revealing his bald head. "How are the three of you today?"

"Sehr gut, Herr General!" they said with a salute.

"At ease men, there's no need for formality here, I'd like to speak to you as friends." The salutes were dropped and the men relaxed.

"Herr General, may I ask why you've summoned us?" Martin asked. Adler smiled the same twisted smile he had shown at the meeting.

"The three of you have shown great promise in the Anthropomorphic sector, and I believe that deserves some recognition." Adler pulled a wine bottle and four glasses out of a desk drawer and poured some into each glass. "Now I understand you are not of drinking age, Schaefer, but one drink won't kill you." Tristan nodded and took a glass with the others. "Hauptgefrieter Herrmann, you have done exceptional work in your in your field and I'd like to promote you to Untteroffizier. Sven spit his drink in surprise.

"But Herr General, that's several steps above my own rank!"

"That does not matter to me. You are a great soldier and deserve such a promotion. Not to mention it will catch you up with your friends here." Martin and Tristan smiled with a raise of their glasses. They all took a long drink.

"Thank you, Herr General, I will wear the rank proudly."

"Indeed you will. I want you to find the tailor and get yourself fitted for your new uniform. Now, for the second reason I called you all here. Come this weekend is the parade, as I made known. I would like for the three of you to be the saber guards in front of the car that day."

"You mean, you want us to hold the swords?" Tristan asked.

"Yes, boy, I want each of you to hold a saber high in the sky in front of me on that day. It will show the public that even Anthropomorphs can join our ranks. Yes there will be others marching, but three NCO's as the saber guard will show they can rise to great heights. Herrmann and Fleischer, you're both well renowned German dog breeds. Schaefer, you're a Wolf. The Führer held Wolves in high regard as a powerful species, and as you may know the SS had a great number of Wolves in its ranks."

"This is a great honor, Herr General." Martin offered a bow of the head. "Thank you very much." Adler bore his twisted smile.

"Of course is it. Now go. I look forward to seeing you all this weekend." Adler raised his right arm. "Sieg Heil!"
