Part 17 Final Battle for Dragoune

Dragoune got up with dread. Today is the day that he will face his father... no wait... the king in a finale battle. He looked at the window and saw that he got up even before the sun was up. The reason why he knew that it was mourning is because thanks to his internal clock. He sighed and looked at his mate Saneira, he could not help but smile at her. Then suddenly he remembered that he will take her with him when he faces the king. His smile vanished quickly because he knew how treacherous this battle could be and he did not want to lose her. Saneira suddenly yawns and opens one of her eyes and smiles at him, but the smile goes away because he is not smiling back and she can sense worry and small bit of fear coming from him.

"What's wrong?" she asks

"I am not sure you coming to this-" she cuts him off saying.

"We already plan this and everyone including me has a right to kill the king. Plus who is going watch over when I am not there." She said amusingly, Dragoune could not help but laugh a little.

"You are right, but I love you so much and that is why I am worried." Dragoune said

"I love you too, but nothing will happen you'll see." She rubbed her muzzle against his and he entwined his tail around hers. They stayed like that for most of the early morning, but soon when the first rays of sunlight came they knew that it was time to go. They got ready and headed in the middle of the town where a lot the of the Vordran were there already. Dragoune and Saneira were content at watching everybody come and practice before the battle, that's when Magnerous came to them with ten other gryphons.

"Rovino wants all of the fliers to go first and wait for the rest of the group. It should not take more than two days and a night. Once they are there you will a wait orders, understood?" Magnerous said

"Yes, sir!" Dragoune said, with a gentler but serious tone Magnerous said.

"These ten gryphons are the best I have got they will make sure you will get to the king."

"But aren't you coming with us?" Dragoune said

"I thought about it but no the reason being is that these gryphons here need a leader and they look up to me, I just can't leave them. Besides once the king is killed there will be none to lead us in times of trouble, unless you will take the throne." Magnerous said, Dragoune did not know what to say. Yeah, he is the heir to the throne, but there is a lot of furries and scalies who remember what he did.

"Well it is not something we need to think about yet. All we need to think about is taking the old king down. Good luck Dragoune and make a cut a on his scaly hide for me." Magnerous said

"I will and may our paths cross again." Dragoune said they shook claws and Magnerous left. Dragoune then talked to the ten gryphons so he could get to know them, and to his luck the gryphon who helped clean his injuries of their first battle here was one of them. Once the sun was over the horizon Dragoune and most of the gryphons took off, Dragoune was caring Saneira of course but not much was said during the flight of the finale battle, so Dragoune went through the plan to keep his mind busy. Braxcon and the bats will come during the first night. All of gryphons and bats will be searching for a lull in the defenses once found they will go and tell Rovino where to put the rest of the Vordran. The flight was uneventful which Dragoune gave thanks, when they where a couple of miles away to their destination they landed. It was around the evening when they did, a lot of the gryphons complained because it was too cold but knew they could not light any fires because it will signal to the enemy on where they were. Dragoune and Saneira sat together alone watching the stars, Dragoune started thinking about his fight with the king unintentionally, that's when he started to feel something, not worry, fear, anger, but....remorse. He shook his head and thought to himself.

'How can I feel sadness to a dragon who would think on killing his mate?' but still that small feeling remained.

Braxcon came with his bats around midnight. Saneira was already asleep and Dragoune was on watch duty. He came up to Braxcon and asked quietly so no would be disturbed.

"How was your flight?"

"Good, good and yours?" Braxcon said with his lowest but it still seemed loud to Dragoune.

"The same." Dragoune said shaking his head to clear the ringing

"On your flight did you find any junctions with a whole lot of guards?" Braxcon asked

"No it appears that a lot of his guards left. Did you send one of your bats to search the grounds?" Dragoune said.

"There is one out as we speak we should now within a half hour." Braxcon said

"Good I would send a gryphon if you hadn't but wouldn't wanted to risk it. We shall send one to tell Rovino in the mourning." After Dragoune said this he did a big yawn.

"It appears that you are exhausted Dragoune. Do not worry about the watch I will take it from here." Braxcon said. Dragoune nodded his head and went to Saneira to sleep the rest of the night.

Dragoune woke with a start when someone tapped his shoulder he quickly took out one of his swords looking to see where the danger was. It was the start of the mourning but there was no danger, Dragoune saw that Braxcon was the one who was tapping.

"Sorry for the rude awaking, I would have screeched but did not want to wake her up." Indicating Saneira

"You may have already had guessed this but most of the army is in the south part of the castle wall." Braxcon then left. Dragoune summoned a gryphon and told him where the enemy was and also told him to take the message to Rovino. He was reluctant to follow Dragoune's orders but then thought better of it. Saneira was awake by then and saw him shake his head.

"Take them time they will come to respect you once again." Saneira said

"Yeah I know but I am starting to loose patience." Dragoune said with a grumble. Setting himself down next to her, so that he can nuzzle her, she nuzzled him back and gave him a slight lick and that made him feel a little better.

The day was long because there was not much to do except sit and await the coming battle with dread. Dragoune kept unintentionally thinking back to his past, and that made his remorse become more and more, then confusion came. Sensing that he was doing a lot of thinking then normal Saneira asked.

"Thinking about your fat-...I mean the king." She knew that he would get mad if she said 'father'.

"You scare me when you read me like a book." Dragoune said with a small smile and she smiled back.

"Yes I was, and I starting to ask myself why would anyone having so many years of happiness with his or her mate just up and kill or plan to kill him or her." Dragoune was making sure not to say mother or father because it would open old wounds.

"It baffles me too, maybe we will find out." Saneira said. But Dragoune was not sure if he did want to find out.

When evening came, so did Rovino, he gathered everyone so that he could tell what the plan is.

"Okay since there is not much guards in the south I want you Braxcon and your bats to go attack silently so that Dragoune and his ten gryphons can slip in unnoticed. Once you come back I and the Vordran will then attack the south. Everyone got it okay lets move out!" Before Dragoune did he wanted to see Volaxone.

"Good luck and stay alive my friend." Dragoune said

"You too I will see you when this is all over." Volaxone said Dragoune picked up Saneira and left.

"Wow Braxco n did a good job' Dragoune thought, they were already heading for the castle when suddenly the alarm went off but no one was attacking them. Dragoune and the gryphons landed quickly but close to the castle, so to make sure they wouldn't be. Just as they went inside Dragoune remembered where the king always like to be in the throne room or the study. At first he was about to go to the study since it was on this floor but then something told him to go to the throne room which was the top floor.

Rovino was already having a hard time there were a lot of arches to shoot down all the fliers and the enemy was using their idea when they fought Baxon.

"I need every archer dead, NOW!!!!" he yelled to his captains they shot out the orders but doing it will be tough.

Dragoune was on the second floor at that time. They had some resistance but nothing that they couldn't handle.

'Only two more levels to go.' He thought and then again his thoughts came back to him increasing his remorse again.

'If this keeps up I won't be able to fight him.' Suddenly they heard a muffled yell. Everyone turned around to see a great big red snake wrapped around a gryphon having a hand over its beak.

"The third floor has too many guards for your group to handle if you follow me I will lead you safely to the king." The snake said.

"Who are you?" Saneira said

"There is no time for that, we need to move now!" The snake said, Dragoune went up close and indicated to lead the way. The snake did and he was about to follow but Saneira pulled him away and asked.

"Can we trust him?"

"Do we have a choice." He answered the snake lead them to a statue which the snake pushed away revealing a good sized hole.

"There are several like these all around the castle, I have been spying on the king ever since he was corrupted. He has been anticipating your every move that's how I knew to look for you. Although he did not think Baxon would have lost." The snake said.

"Wait a minute you are telling me that you were here all this time and did not kill the king...why?" asked one of the gryphons.

"I couldn't because everyone would want to know why he suddenly die without any deadly cuts on him." The snake answered, Dragoune was about to ask what he meant but the snake went into the hole.

"Two of us will stay here and guard" another gryphon said and Dragoune nodded going in first. It was a very tight fit but he got through easily.

'Well this is going to be fun.' He thought jokingly.

"Get those doors opened!" some one yelled in the distance. Rovino's group was starting to win but still had a very hard time getting through the gate. Rovino saw a guard coming at him with an ax and another with a sword. Rovino grabbed the ax guard's head twisting it and hearing a snap and using his sword to slice the sword guards gut.

'Dragoune you better hurry we can not hold much longer.' Rovino said to himself.

Dragoune saw that the snake came out of a hole and he was about to too but the snake came back in saying stay here. Dragoune heard nothing for awhile and then he heard a crash as someone fell to the floor. Dragoune went out and saw a guard lying dead on the ground, but there were no cuts on him.

"What did you do to him?" a gryphon asked.

"I bit him I am a king cobra after all." The snake simply answered opening his hood to them.

"I thought they were wiped out?" another asked

"Most of us yes the others went to find another place to stay but I with my mates came here and build a den right underneath the king's nose. Now this is were I leave you I hope we shall meet again." The snake said and went back into the hole.

It was not long when Dragoune found the throne room and there was no one there. He told all the gryphons to stay and he and Saneira went in. Dragoune thinking

'Father why has it come to this.'

Dragoune saw his father up on the throne staring at his killers.

"So my son has come back to me to take the throne." He said mockingly

"I AM NOT YOUR SON!!!" Dragoune said but even though he meant it, it hurt him to say it. Dragoune suddenly attacked taking out his two swords but not his tail.

"Isn't your worthless mate going to come at me as well?" the king said. Dragoune's anger increased greatly but he kept it in check.

"If I lose to you, you will be tired and she will take you down!" Dragoune answered. He took one of his swords slicing it towards the king's leg but the king blocked it. Dragoune used the other to take out a wing but that was blocked as well. In fact for almost a half hour all his attacks were not working.

"I can read your moves easily, it is even easier when you are mad." The king said. Dragoune ignored him and continue to fight him. The taunts kept on coming though making it harder and harder to control his rage. Saneira sensed this and wanting to calm him down but in order to do that she would have to get in the middle of the fight. That is when the king went too far.

"How did it feel when you found out that I planned to kill the queen?"

"Four corrupted hierarchs....THREE DEAD!!!!!" Dragoune roared his eyes glowing red. He attack with his two swords which the king blocked but has Dragoune did that he took his tail sword with his tail unsheathed it and stuck it right into the kings heart. As the king was dying his expression changed dramatically it from hatred to loving as if a spell was broken on him.

"Thank you Dragoune, my son." Dragoune's eyes went back to normal and he started to cry.

"W-why father why d-did y-you do this." But Dragoune never got the answer because his farther was dead. Dragoune hugged his father crying rocking back and forth. Saneira did not know what to do but stayed with him.

The next day there was burial for the king and everyone was there except Magnerous. After the ceremony Dragoune did a speech.

"I Dragoune as rightful heir to be the king will take the throne and rule Marnex. My fellow leaders will Braxcon to the east Magnerous to the west and Rovino to the south but I assure you that we will not under ant circumstances lie and cheat like the last four. We will be fair and protect you and see to it that justice will be served." With that announcement everyone cheered and Dragoune went inside with Saneira and Volaxone.

"You know there will be a lot of work to be done." Volaxone said Dragoune nodded his head watching three king cobras coming out of a hole. Dragoune remembered the red one but did not the other two who were green and blue.

"Who are they!?! Volaxone asked jumping ten feet in the air.

"I am Crosian and these two are my mates Sissslyn and Traisa." Crosian said

"Just call me Siss." The blue one said

"It is a pleasure to meet you and I will be happy if you stayed with us." Dragoune said

"What is the catch?" Crosian said

"Not much just that you and Volaxone will be my second in command?" said Dragoune

"What!?!" Both of them said at the same time

"You two have shown great courage these past few years and I will need that courage in the near future." Dragoune said. They both agreed and left Dragoune and Saneira.

"It is finally over." Saneira said nuzzling Dragoune

"Yes it has." Dragoune said nuzzling back which it quickly turned into a passionate kiss which lasted for a long time. When it was broken Saneira asked.

"What would you say if I said I wanted to start a family?"

End?

That night Dragoune saw in his dream two big blood red eyes and then he heard evil laughter. Maybe all is not well in The Land of Marnex.

Wow what a cliffhanger uh? That should make you begging for more. Hey Frost Originally I had Dragoune not feel remorse until he took the final blow but then a little voice that sounded like you told me not to do that. I think your reviews are getting to me and it is freaking me out! (lol) I would want an review for the whole series if it is not too much trouble.
