#7 of Problems in Paradise

The woman floating in Ken's bedroom was a petite female standing at five feet and five finches in height, one hundred and twenty pounds, wearing a bright pink skirt and a long waterfall of blonde hair trailing her back. Cherie, as Ken had called the woman, floated in the middle of the room just a foot off the ground and was smiling without looking as she waved her hands around in the air.

"Ken? Where are you and why are there dogs in your room?" Cherie asked when she knelt down to one of the canines and watched as they all backed away from her, cautiously.

Ken sobbed a few times before he huffed and opened his eyes to stare at the girl with more than a little fear in his glowing irises.

"I'm over here." The newly transformed were stepped from around his bed to look at his 'friend' and waited for her reaction.

"OOOOOHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! TOO CUTE!" the woman grabbed the weredog/mage into her impressively strong hold and then hefted him up while swinging his furry body around and cooing at him. On the bed, Ezekiel was snorting with short bursts of canine laughter as he noted the horrid look on the new alpha's muzzle.

Ken turned his head when his new ears wavered at hearing the chuckles and growled at the former alpha while silently willing him to a slow and painful death.

Isaiah and the others kept their distance from the female as her scent irritated their noses. There was something about her that was not right, not natural and the strong aversion from the canines made the room grow tense. Even Ezekiel felt the wrongness in the air surrounding the human and felt his hackles rise at the thought that Ken had brought a danger to the pack.

When the woman had finally stopped strangling her friend she placed him down and then looked into the darkened room before staring at Kendrick.

"So Kenny, gonna explain why you're all furry now and why you have these cute little puppies in your room?" Cherie tried to get near one of the pack but everyone kept a safe distance of five feet from the girl, spreading like insects whenever she got too close to one of them.

"Cher...I got into a bit of a mess last night and ended up..." Kendrick looked at the others to decide how he wanted to phrase his next statement.

"...afflicted with lycanthropy. I need some help otherwise my landlord will kick me out when the tenants start complaining about the noise and the mess. Everyone was up here a few minutes ago and I had to make up a story about why the house looked like a mess." Ken thought back to the older people who had been in his apartment not but ten minutes ago and wondered how long Ms. Huckstible could keep the others from barging back up there.

"Oh I see...so what's in it for me?" Cherie looked slyly at the newly transformed weredog/mage and grinned at him with mischief in her honey colored eyes.

"What do you want?" Ken asked carefully.

"Well maybe a little alone time with one of these cute little puppy-wuppies." The baby talk made everyone in the room except for Cherie shiver and gag.

"Uhmmm.....no. You can borrow my spell books but you are not touching my...these guys!" Ken turned his head when Ezekiel looked at him with a hard stare and Isaiah cocked his head in question.

"Oh fine! Big meanine but I better see those boos later on...or else!" the pink dressed girl huffed and passed by the pack members closes to the door before walking through the closed door and into the living room.

"What was that?!" Ezekiel asked as he sniffed and sneezed when taking in Cherie's scent.

"That was Cherie. She is my 'neighbor'. She is a fairy. And she was my only option so don't complain." Kendrick sat himself onto the floor and sighed. One of the pack came up to the new alpha and licked him on his muzzle making Ken smile before the weredog/mage coughed and stood back up.

"All right then. Cherie will keep everyone downstairs busy while we get out of here."

"Where are we going Ken?" Isaiah inquired

"Actually we're going to have to go somewhere else for a while until I can figure this all out and staying in here with you guys won't help me thing. I'm taking us to my home and then we'll see what happens." Ken moved and then raised up onto his hind legs to turn the handle of the doorway.

"How are we going to get out of here then? Aren't you 'humans' downstairs waiting on you?" Ezekiel added his own two cents making the fur on Ken's back rise.

"Look smart ass! I'm really starting to not like you so if you don't SHUT UP, I might do something to make Isaiah really lonely, really soon." Ken's eyes blazed a crimson hue as he looked at the former alpha who snarled at him.

Two whacks filled the air as ken and Ezekiel met the rolled up newspaper that was still in Isaiah's hands and both saw starts for another time today.

"You know you two fight so much I'm beginning to think that you both are related to one another." The beta commented as he pursed his lips and stared at the two alpha males.

"..."

"..."

Both Ken and Ezekiel looked at one another before shivering and looking away.

"It must be the after effects of that spell from before. Anyway we have to hurry or else Cherie will think of something else to try and bargain out of me for her spent time." Ken made his way out of his room with the pack following behind him until he was in his destroyed living area.

Whimpering at the sight of the destruction, Ken let everything be as it was before going over to his closet and chanting a spell. The others looked to each other and then to Ken who finished up his incantation and then hopped up and turned the closets door handle. When the doorway opened, instead of bunch of coats and other clothing was actually a room filled with grass and trees with an assortment of animals running around.

One of the pack saw a white rabbit run past the door and licked his lips.

"Okay guys this will take us to my home. My Real home. Now one thing to note is that...ugh..." Ken grumbled as he noticed two of the pack dash off past him after a deer that ran by the gateway followed along by four others. Tails wagged as Ken stared wide eyed at the dogs shrinking in his field of vision into the surrounding trees.

"...hey...you were supposed to wait for me to finish..."

"They are hungry Ken and the temptation of food is usually to big for them to pass up, all things considered." Isaiah wisely spoke before turning his head towards the new alpha of the pack.

"I guess but still..." Isaiah chuckled as he went over to a disheartened Kendrick and licked his face before moving into the gateway.

Ezekiel followed behind his mate leaving Ken alone before the weredog/mage got his act together and trailed after everyone. When he was through the door slammed shut behind him and then all was silent.

"Well won't this be interesting. Little Ken's got a big problem on his hands. Too bad..." Cherie stood outside of Ken's apartment before laughing to herself and looking at the on coming older humans headed her way. She smiled at them cheerfully before stepping into their pathway.

"Hi!"

Meanwhile, Ken was in hot pursuit of his packmates as the younger of the weredogs had made their way after a large buck that was running for dear life. Having never expected to be hunted at this time, the deer pushed its legs forward until distance was placed between itself and the hungry dogs behind it.

"Ken! Hurry up and go after it!" Ezekiel shouted as he ran behind Isaiah

"What?! Why me?!" the weredog/mage cried out as he noticed that the deer was gaining speed and losing the others and a trigger was being tapped in his mind.

"You're the alpha now! It's your job to take down the kill or at least get it to where we can take it down!" the former alpha hated the words dripping from his muzzle but he was no longer the alpha male and had to show Ken how to be one if the pack was to survive...

Ken nodded to the wolfhound mixed weredog and put on a burst of speed as he ran up past to the buck. The feel of the ground under his paws was like the winds as Ken moved faster and faster as his new body pumped adrenaline into his veins and caused his heart to speed up the flow of blood. Internal organs received messages from his brain and before long Ken had passed his packmates and was upon the deer.

The buck kicked its back legs when a sharp nip made it halt its advance but it proved to be his key flaw as Ken dodged from the hooves and take on of the buck's legs in his muzzle and bite deep into the flesh to the bone. The animal howled but Ken paid it no mind as he crunched on the appendage in his maw and then twisted his head causing the animal to fall.

Ezekiel was on it in a flash of fur and muscles and the former alpha sank his fangs into the deer's neck making a spray of blood wash over his face. Isaiah was the last to attack the buck as he moved to Ken and took the deer's other leg and bit down on it. With three predators working at it the buck fought bravely to get away but was unable to and as Ezekiel tore out its neck the deer grunted and flailed as its lifeblood pooled around it.

The former alpha, beta, and the new alpha backed away as the animal cried out with yelps and shrieks before going still. Ken looked at Ezekiel who was covered in wet crimson licking his own maw and grinning with an almost evil sneer as he watched the creature before them expire. The other pack members stood in a tight formation as they let their leaders take the kill before going over and sniffing Ken. The new alpha gasped when he felt a nose on his face and then a tongue licking a few drops of blood from his lips but recovered quickly.

"Very nicely done on your first hunt Ken. You did well..." Isaiah walked close to the other and nuzzled his face and getting some of the blood from his own muzzle onto Ken's fur.

"Yeah...I..." Ken didn't know how he felt as he stared at the dead animal. Apart of him wanted to feel bad but a hunger deep in his belly was shutting out the remorse.

"The go ahead and get the first pieces." Ezekiel snarled as the adrenaline rush ebbed from his mind and his senses calmed down to a bare aggression.

"What...what do I do?" Ezekiel snarled but Isaiah barked at him making the other stand down and go over to the deer and tear into its body. Wet sounds filled the forest and the weredog/mage was caught between disgust and intrigue.

As the internal bits were shown to the world Ken was nudged b Isaiah over to the deer and then bent low and sniffed the meal. Without knowing it, Ken snapped his fangs out and over to a piece of the venison before chewing and swallowing. After the first bite the new alpha took more and more until he could hear whines coming from the pack. Turning around Ken noticed hungry gazes shifting past him to the animal and the new alpha stepped beside to let the others have their share.

Ezekiel and Isaiah were the next to take flesh from the deer followed by each member of the pack until only the bones and skull were left of the dead animal.

"That...that was...unreal...I ate a deer..." Ken stared in disbelief at his accomplishments and the taste of venison in his mouth. The running blood had begun to cool and make his fur itchy and Ken wiped his paws over the parts of his body where the fur was matted down.

"You've never had an animal like that before have you Ken?" Isaiah was colored red but it somehow made the wereCollie look...majestic and beautifully feral...

Ken shook his head negatively before he looked around to the others and watched as everyone yipped and tussled with one another. All were covered in crimson but something inside of Ken made that seem alright with him instead of wrong. It was that fact that worried the weredog/mage since it meant that he was growing accustomed to being a weredog...and shouldn't that still bother him he thought.

"Ken, you said that you live here did you not? The where is your home?" Isaiah sniffed around but the farthest thing he could scent was the natural odors of nature.

"I kinda live a ways from this place. We're in the Elder Forest and my home is a days journey to the south." Raising a paw, the newly turned weredog pointed in the direction of his home making the pack stop what they were doing to gaze into the tall orchard of trees guarding the way.

"So then why are we still here?" Ezekiel grumpily asked before moving to ken's side.

"Well I want to make a detour first off and get this blood off of me. It's not a good feeling...makes my fur annoying and gunky." Ken turned to Ezekiel as he could have sworn the other said something under his breath that sounded like 'spoiled pet' and growled to the other.

"Alright Ken, which way?" Kendrick smiled when he saw Isaiah coming over to him and wavering his tail against Ezekiel's nose. Like a kid who won an argument the weredog/mage stuck out his tongue when the beta wasn't looking before turning his head snobbishly away from the former alpha and taking off.

Ezekiel growled and muttered under his breath but he had more common sense that to try anything while his mate was looking, but when Isaiah was occupied the wolfhound mixed weredog swore to get his revenge.

Ken gathered the other weredogs up and then herded them into the trees leaving the carcass of the buck behind to be fed off of by the birds as he sniffed the air and remembered how to get to that spot of his. Sight and scent were intensified as a lycanthrope and Ken was relishing in the bliss of the nature's bounty while he lopped on. The others followed the new alpha and more than most had smiles on their faces to see the new weredog having fun while wagging his tail to and fro. Isaiah in particular found it endearing that Ken was happy to be in his fur and bounding on like a pup.

The walk took the pack some time but at the end of their journey a large river sat in front of them with gleaming cool water running farther than the eyes could see.

"Amazing. This doesn't look like any river I've ever seen." The wereCollie analyzed the water before taking a few laps at the sparkling water down his throat.

"That's because on Earth the waters have been diluted with poisons and chemicals. Here, in this place, there are no poisons just the raw beauty of nature and her children. No people for miles away and no one to dirty the land or interrupt nature's flow." Ken got a faraway look in his eyes as he talked to the others and to himself.

"We are no longer on Earth? Where are we then Ken?" Isaiah stopped drinking the water and stared up to Ken with his muzzle dripping.

"On my home planet of Slypheed. I wanted to try and tell you guys that before but then everything happened and well..." Ken made a point of looking to Ezekiel but the former alpha just sniffed at the river beside his mate and said nothing.

"Do you blame us for what has happened to you?" Isaiah solemnly asked..

"...in a way I do but I'm not mad about it. I...I think I really wanted to come home but didn't have a reason to before. You guys may have come into my life by happenstance but...I think..."

Everyone stopped what they were doing to look at the new alpha.

"I...just...oh never mind...its pointless... Anyway..." Ken walked over to Ezekiel and looked at the other with a smile on his blood covered face.

"Hey Ezekiel?"

The former alpha looked at Ken and then opened his eyes wide before he was tackled and both weres fell into the river with a loud splash. Isaiah watched as his mate and Ken wrestled around with each other before the wolfhound mixed weredog paddled away from Ken with a scowl on his face.

"You son of a bitch!!! What did you do that for?!" Ezekiel roared.

"Because I wanted to..." Ken replied as he paddled in the water and smiled up to the others before swimming around for a bit.

Isaiah tried to fight it but he couldn't help the light tremors that ran from himself down his body before he opened his muzzle and let out a howl of laughter. The rest of the pack followed suit and even Ezekiel had a grumpy smile on his face as he thought about how funny the entire situation was.

"Come on in and get cleaned off guys and then we've got to find some place to settled down for the night." The other members of the pack did as requested and hopped into the river one by one until only Isaiah was left standing next to his mate.

"You know...that's the first honest smile I've seen on you since we died."

"I...want to hate him. I want to hate everything for what we lost but...that guy...he won't let me... It's almost like he does what he can to piss me off so I can't be angry. I sounds weird and messed up but....it's the truth." Ezekiel watched the seven weredogs playing around and clean off the blood from one another before getting out on the other side of the river and shaking off.

"Let the past go Ezekiel. We cannot reclaim it. All we can do now is move into the future we should not have been granted."

"You know what...that's why I love you Isaiah. You always know just how to make me happy." Ezekiel kissed licked over his mate's still red muzzle before walking with him to the river. Both nodded to each other and then jumped in.
