** ** They say that all life is precious, no matter how big or small. We walk the path expected of us and no matter; yet I'll never walk the path of my father. Who am I you ask? I'm just young prince just trying to find his place this world. Here is my story. I am told I was born on a bright spring morning I lie there nursing my mother Onai. His father the great alpha Saru whom saved his pack from invading clan threatened to kill the parents if they did not hand over their kingdom to their banished first born son, Zaro.
He failed to protect the kingdom, while his parents where away attending council meeting. Zaro intentionally set the kingdom on fire burning and killing most of the animals and burning most of forest. When Saru refused, Zaro ordered his top wolfs to throw Saru's parents into the spikey pit, impaling them both .Enraged with anger he and Zaro fought ,Biting and tackling each other until accidently slipped on a rock and fell into rough waters, and was never to be seen again.
That was 10 years ago and the valley of the moon was at peace since that time. Many wolves from my father's time now have grand kids. My Parents cave on top large bluff overlooking the entire kingdom. Saru walks toward his mate and his new son. He sits and nuzzling his mate. Saru asked what we shall name him. I want our son to have a special name said Onai. They both think for a moment. I think we will name him Naru, said Saru. Naru is a fine said Onai. Many days pass and I grew stronger by the day. By the time I was 2 weeks old I was already walking. Every day I play the other young ones born that year.
Then one day a small wolf pack came to our valley far to the west of here. Their home had been destroyed by man's fire. That's where I met Nyla and Makoto. My Parents knew their parents when they were young. So they were allowed to stay here. Even though I was young I thought she was the most beautiful person in the world. But I was too shy to tell her how I felt. So we became friends for the time being. When I met makoto I was told that he was a little older than me. All he did was sleep, while the other wolves and I played. As the sun was setting on that day it was time to head back to home. But before arriving there I was stopped by general Roslyn. He told me that my parents are never coming back, but they will always be with. I cried and cried my cries where heard through the kingdom as the other wolves howled in pain and sorrow. Come now I will raise you to be a great leader. He carried me to my cave. A funeral was held the following week to honoring my parents; they were buried at the spot where they first met. Each of our pack members stood in line and went up to the shrines, to give flowers to the king and queen. I stood there next to Roslyn trying my hardest not to cry. Knowing what my father once said to me. We won't be alive forever my son, though our bodies are gone, our spirits will live on through you.
A few years pass and the Naru is now a 2 and half years old. During that time under general Roslyn teaching, Naru has developed into a fine young prince.One day Naru receives a message from one of guards on patrol that day. The note says the note also said there's a male in his territory doing just but also beating his mate. That he must banish all those who don't hunt with the pack nor cares for his own family. It is required by law. Naru said I will take care of soon as I can. What ceremony you may ask? It a ceremony for every young prince must choose is mate.
Later that day I all the eligible females all lined up for the choosing. General Roslyn said loudly as he stood in front other wolves. Announcing your future ruler of the valley of the rising moons this kingdom, here he is, Prince Naru. I walked with pride toward the top of the bluff. And took a big inhale and howled so that my subjects could here. The other members of the pack howled and cheered. Once I finished the others ceased the howling. I will ask the young ladies to step forward and form a straight line.
Citizens of the valley of the rising moons, I will now choose my queen, said Naru. Nyla please step forth, said Naru. Nyla steps fourth. Will you accept the role as my queen? Ask Naru. Nyla looks at Naru and said no.
The citizens all looked Nyla with shock. Prince Naru said very well I accept your decision. My fellows wolves, though I have not chosen a queen yet. But the law states I still have 2 weeks. In during that time if I don't not find my mate. I will forfeit the crown to General Roslyn. I will rule with great honor and wisdom sir he said. Prince Naru nods you all dismissed said Naru. Naru turns and head back to his cave, with his ears down. Nyla heads down the stairs. About 5 steps down she stops turns looks at Naru he could see a single tear drop slide down his face. She never had seen him, so down before not since his parents died.
I wished I could have told him why she thought, it's just I'm already involved with someone.
The sun was setting, and it was time to eat, all the warriors came back from the days hunt. They came back with many elks, enough for everyone to eat. The wolves lined up to take the share to their families. It was a custom that the head was always given to the leaders of the pack. So the warriors worked together to ripped the elk's head off, and passed to general Roslyn.
He carried the head with his jaws bringing up to Prince Naru. Your highness I brought you your meal said General Roslyn. He places elk head down. Sir are you alright he asked. I'm alright said Naru I've been thinking about my brother. How did you know Roslyn asked? I've heard stories from mother. I know he vanished in the river and was never seen again. But is there a chance he could come back? He asked. Your father sent some of our warriors to search the river to find him, we looked everywhere for many days. But we never could find him. We assumed he drowned said Roslyn. If he ever comes back we'll be ready him he said. Naru nods. General Roslyn bows and takes his leave to eat his share.
A few that nights later the prince goes out to seek this useless excuse for a wolf. About an hour later he hears the yelps and cries of in the distance. And he runs to a small clearing just to the west of the kingdom. Only to find it was Nyla. She had been badly beaten. Many bruises are on her body. Too many to count, Naru was amazed she was still alive.
He smelled blood on her and soon realized she had serious bites some on her body. She managed to care for her wounds as best she could and must have fallen asleep recently. Naru see a something moving right next to her. It was a small wolf puppy. Naru knew if he didn't do something Nyla and her pup would die.
He walks toward the father to end his life, he hears the bushes rustle. Then out of the nowhere a rouge older wolf appears. The rogue wolf, Shax is hunting. not for the girl but the puppy. The young prince, turn and charges at the Shax tackling just before he's able to snatch the puppy. The rogue wolf body slams against a large boulder, with a loud slam. The prince Naru carries a wolf puppy to a safe place. The mother awakens to the growling and snarling.
She watches as the two wolfs circle each Shax- "how dare you take my kill." Shax- who are you? Prince-I am prince Naru and I will not let you harm an innocent puppy He said. The prince lunges at him sinking his fangs deep into the wolf's neck. But due to his small size the rouge wolf easily manages to toss the wolf against the same boulder. His body slams against the rock. As he shake of his injures and he regains his strength. He hears a cracking. The prince ears perk up. The top of the boulder is rupturing. The prince looks quickly at the Shax as he gets ready to charge. When he was close enough, the prince jumps out of the way allowing the Shax to hit his head against the large boulder
In spite of that he manages to raise his body half way. He hears a loud cracking sound, looks up and a large tip of the boulder falls on top the Shax crushing his skull instantly. As he regains his strength the prince ears perk up. He hears the top of the boulder cracking He quickly looks at the rouge wolf as we get ready to charge. He runs to the prince. But prince jumps out of the way. Allowing the rogue wolf, to hit his head against the large boulder, in spite of his injures. He manages to raise his body half way. And hears a loud cracking sound, he Looks up, and... Smack, as a large tip falls on top the Shax crushing his skull instantly, the young prince staggers to his feet. He suffers a broken leg yet he finds the strength despite his injures manages to carry the puppy back to his mother. She walks up toward the prince and starts nuzzling him. The prince with raised eyebrows didn't know what to do. All he could do was savor the moment.
Nlya -said "thank you". The prince suddenly collapses to the ground.
Naru she said. Naru! She yelled the father of that puppy Makoto, wakes up to all the commotion. Walks toward is mate and son, and he said is that Saru the king's son? She nods Nyla - He risks his own life to save my son Makoto - tsk! You're son? Nyla - I'm wasting my time with you, she yelled Nyla-you haven't done a single thing for us since he was born, she said. "You're just a fat, lazy and selfish excuse for a wolf "she yelled. Makoto - "How dare you say that to me" he said.
I can kill you in an instant "He said. Makoto "I'd like to see you try" she said.
Snarling and growling! She uses her paws to push the baby behind her. Then she lunged at the father's neck sinking her fangs into his neck. While she hangs on, the father runs to the nearest tree. Then using all his strength tosses her against a tree. Her body slams against the tree with a loud thud she manages to shake off her injuries and gets up. She snarled at him. Then yelled Get out! You're no longer my mate. The father growled and said you two won't survive without me. Turns and leaves. Blood starts to ooze from his neck the further he walked .He began breathing heavily. He turns and said angrily, when the both of you die. We'll see who has the last laugh. He presses on Heavy breathing quickens!
More blood falls from his neck leaving a trial behind him He realizes he's having trouble breathing. He turns his head and notices a large gash on his neck. It's from that girl she didn't let go of my neck until the last second. When she did she tore my neck open with her fangs He starts to feel dizzy, and then he loses his balance and finally ... collapses to the ground
Lying there he takes his final breaths of life (Breaths)... (Breaths)... ... dies Nyla she leans over nuzzle the prince .but nothing happens Nyla - I'm so sorry she said. I broke your heart all those years ago, and yet you still saved my son. She lies right next to him putting her head on his neck .tears began to fall down her face. A few moments later she hears little foot prints. As she opened her eyes she realized it was her son
Jiri! At just two weeks old he's already walking. She watches as her young pup walks up to the prince, and started nuzzling him too. Her ears lower as she began to cry again, praying that he would wake up. She bowed her head. And licked Naru's face she whispered; I love you, please. Sniff. Sniff get up" she cried. (Silence) ..... A few minutes past then... her ears perk up, when she heard a soft moan. Naru's eyes opened She said with happiness- you're Alive! The prince manages to stand up half way. He looks at Nyla and bows his head. Naru said "I'm sorry" Nyla "You didn't do anything wrong." She said He explained the he was sent her by law to kill your mate for his actions He bows his head. Tears began to fall from his face. She put her paw on his paw and said you gave us a second chance to live a long and happy life, and I couldn't be any more grateful. Naru hears tiny foot prints, it was Jiri. He walks up toward him and sits right next to his leg and licking at the prince's leg. She said looks like he likes you. The prince looks at the puppy with raised eye brows... ? Then smiles at him the puppy stops and then starts to chase his tail Nyla, she leans in to put her nose against prince Naru 's nose and he does the same to hers, nuzzling his muzzle against hers.
Come let's go home, Naru said
Realizing he broke his leg, Nyla helps Naru walk by allowing him support his weight on her helping him walk, with Jiri running beside them. A many months later after the wounds have all healed. But sadly Jiri didn't make it he died just days after Naru and Nyla came home. He died of mysterious illness. The wise shaman, rakiri did all he could be but he could not save him. A ceremony was held, for the crowning of the new leaders of the pack and to honor Jiri death. General Roslyn said to the prince as he stood before his new family and his people. He said to howl to signal his reign as the new leader. The prince Naru nodded takes a big inhale and howled like his fore fathers before him generations ago. The others wolves all cheered with joy as the leader took his right full place. As the sun rises, on a new day, The new leader this Kingdom, Stand on a cliff, and watches as sun rises smiles and wonders what new adventures a wait him with this new chapter of his life. One thing is for sure, is that love, hope and faith will always conquer over evil.
