#5 of Dearest Husky

WHOOM! The storm outside whirled, Spike still in the woods, now in a smaller cabin with a fox friend he had come to grow close to over the past while he's been living with him.

Niklas has supplied food, shelter, water, and heating for Spike while in the woods alone. Away from his real friends... or what he thought was to be his friends. In truth Spike was afraid, the storm was only getting worse... already he was awoken tonight by shattering glass from the winds. Turning and rolling over on the couch in the living room he would frown and curl his small husky tail between his legs wishing, almost wishing he was back with his friends.

"Spike... Pst... Spike..." Nik peeked over the couch looking down whispering to Spike, "You okay... need me to get you a glass of water or something?"

Spike looked up over his shoulder and looked to Nik thinking for a moment he would slowly turn his head away and sigh whispering back to the small kind fox friend, "No... thank you though..."

"Okay... something wrong?" Nik crawled around the couch, he small tiny child like body in sight as he peeked at Spike wondering to himself, thoughts of the husky's friends came to his mind, he spoke about them yesterday. Was he thinking about them?

Spike held his posture laying on the couch with a thin blanket covering his upper body. "It's complicated." seeing the fox still staring at him Spike would wonder if he should tell the fox what was really going on in his life.

Nik sighed and bowed his head alittle curling his tail between his legs saying, "Hey you know I am just a kid but I am smart... I know how to handle things... please... talk...."

Listening to Nik talk, Spike would look down before saying in light voice, "You sure you want to know Nik?" Nik replied with a simple nod and moved up to Spike sitting on the floor in front of him. Spike gave a light sigh before lifting himself up and sitting before him saying in a light tone, "Nik, I don't like gays... and well... I never thought about it till recently... I mean... my best friend is gay... and I... well... I left him..."

Nik heard the little bit and cut him off saying, "Spike look... Gay's are just people... they are no different then us... and if he was your best friend... why did you leave him, he obviously wasn't really your best friend... right?"

"But he is!" Spike looked down at Nik with wide eyes before looking away and saying, "I just... I never knew he was gay...."

Nik frowned, "If he was your best friend you would have not left... you would have accepted him for being who he was... that's a real friend..."

Looking down at his lap Spike slowly set his feet to the floor as a whistle of wind came through the house, "I just.... I don't... I...."

Niklas sighed and said, "It was your choice Spike... you made it... now you have to stay here... till the storm is over... hopefully we make it out...." looking over his shoulder out the window with a frown seeing the gusts and the massive amounts of snow pounding on the window at a massive speed.

Nodding alittle to the words said to him, Spike murmured, "That's.... kinda what's been crossing my mind. If I'm really as much of a friend as I thought I was. Guess I was just acting like a kid huh?" Spike turned his head away and looked down to the floor a short distance away as he would wonder to himself before the words drifted from his mouth, "Would you have done the same thing in my position?" he was asking a kid this question... but he had to have an answer... and honestly, he himself was still a kid to say the least. He was still fairly young.

Niklas blinked, than lifting his head up to the ceiling he would blush and murmur, "Um... if I found out my best friend was gay.... I don't really know... what I would do...." looking to Spike he murmured, "I mean, I never had any experience with homosexual's. I wouldn't quite know how to react to someone like that. I'd probably... just say 'wow' really..." Blushing as he said this he looked away and murmured, "I have nothing against Gay's though... I mean... their people just like us. So it's not like anything bad will happen..."

Frowning after words Spike would murmur, "So you... wouldn't have run away... you would have... stayed?" sighing Spike would lower his head and lift his hands to his forehead saying, "God I'm so depressed... I wish I could contact Kiam... I just want to say sorry. He'll probably never forgive me but I want to say sorry."

Nik would look to Spike hearing his almost plea sounding voice frowning he would say, "Spike I'm sorry... I shouldn't have dug into your business... look... let me get you some water... I'll be right back..." Niklas stood up and trotted over to the kitchen pulling open the fridge as he did so he would pull out a pitcher of water and set it on the counter saying, "Spike listen, your not a bad person... you made your choice... it's your life."

Spike looked up at Niklas before frowning to say, "But he was my friend... It was kinda a shitty thing to do wasn't it?"

"Well... Yeah..." Niklas poured the water into a small glass before turning back around to Spike and saying, "But I still think it was just your instinct telling you what to do over anything else. I told you that already right?"

A tink came from the other side of the room as the pitcher was set back into the fridge while Nik came back over to Spike, offering the glass of water Spike replied finally with, "No... you didn't why do you think that?" quirking a brow to something like that being said. Slowly lifting his hand up and picking the glass from Nik's hand holding it softly in between his palms. His eyes drifted up slowly to look up at the fox friend before him. Wondering lightly to himself of his thoughts of friendship would continue between Kiam and himself he would sigh and smile alittle looking at the fox seeing some hope in him of a friend atleast. "Thank you Nik..."

Back at Spike's old home, Fred and Kiam huddled close to each other in the basement of the cabin. Lit by a lantern and had a well carried supply of fuel for the storm the basement was dark, and gloomy looking for it's flickering lighting.

"You okay Kiam?" Whispered a light voice. Fred was speaking softly to the whimpering coon... the whistles and sounds from outside were anything but a friendly noise.

Nodding in response, Kiam would whisper back to Fred, "Just thinking about Spike... wondering if he made it to out of the forest and to safety in time..." frowning as he said this.

Fred frowned and held the coon close to him before nuzzling the small mammal's cheek rubbing a hand over his back gently as he whispered in a tender voice, "He'll be fine... I'm certain of it that he will."

"Fred?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you even like Spike?"

Fred's eyes drifted closed in the pale light of the lantern slowly he pressed his cheek to Kiam's shoulder and held it there, it didn't take him long to answer... but it wasn't much of an answer at all. "I don't... really know?"

Kiam's eyes shot open at this before he would stare at Fred from the corner of his eyes wanting to back away and dig into this emotion he just unearthed but at the same time maybe that would not be the greatest of ideas. Though he did have to ask the simple question, "Why?"

Fred frowned as the question was asked to what he said than sighing he murmured, "Jealousy?" in a questioning tone, as if asking if that was a good enough answer to give Kiam. Seeing the frown still painted on Kiam's maw, Fred could do little more than sigh and say, "I guess I just have a chronic disliking for someone who is stealing away my best friends?"

"Stealing away your best... friends?" Kiam frowned than turned his head away and hugged Fred whispering, "I'm sorry... I thought you liked Spike..."

"Oh, I do!" Fred piped in hugging Kiam back, "I just... feel really jealous that he get's all of your attention...."

Kiam looked down and felt alittle disgust of himself at the feelings he had towards Spike, in ways he did act like he was closer to Spike than he was to Fred. But Fred seemed to hold himself closer to Kiam than he did to Spike, "I'm sorry... I mean.... You have my attention now don't you?"

Fred chuckled and leaned up to nuzzle Kiam before whispering to him, "Want me to run upstairs and make your favorite food?" chuckling as he said that he heard a laugh from Kiam.

"No... Hehe I'm good Fredric..." looking to Fred with a smile, "I'm not that hungry... but thank you for the laugh though..." Kiam laid his head against Fred's chest and whispered, "This isn't the worst of the storm is it?"

Shaking his head Fred wrapped his arms around Kiam and said, "No.... I don't think it is...." he said in a sad more serious voice...

Laying down on the couch, oblivious to the things that could be going on at the cabin, Spike stared up at the ceiling, Nik rubbing his arm lightly as the small fox whispered lightly to him, "Spike... I was just wondering.... are you gay?"

Spike's eyes widened and he shot a glare at Nik from the corner of his eyes, "No! I am not gay!..." turning his head away swiftly he frowned and yanked his arm away not wanting to be touched by the male as he murmured, "Are you?"

Nik looked to Spike than lowered his head and mumbled, "I'm bisexual... Not gay... but I prefer woman.... so you don't have to worry..." looking to Spike he said, "Though I get the feeling you don't like gay's or the thought of sex with men at all... have you ever even considered it... or what it would be like?"

Spike blinked looking over to Nik before saying, "Niklas.... you aren't trying to get me to have sex with you are you?"

Nik laughed, "No.... I was just wondering if you were being ignorant and just pushing away half of the world because they are different from you..."

"I'm not... I just... I don't like gays..." Spike lifted his head and frowned as he sat up off the bed picking up the glass of water as he said, "I dated this one guy back when I was in middle school... and... he didn't go to my school.... he told me he was fourteen... and later on he raped me... or.... it was consensual sex I guess... it's just... later on I found out he was twenty years old.... and he hadn't been in school for three years...."

Nik frowned, "Oh.... so you had a bad experience...." looking down Nik mumbled, "So did I actually.... my father is bisexual... my real father.... he lives far east of here... towards the cities, and casinos, and stuff... but my mum remarried.... Anyway my real dad molested me when I was a little boy... like... four years old...."

Spike blinked than leaning over he rolled onto his side and looked at Nik saying, "So... you know that feeling of being betrayed?"

"Sorta I guess..." Nik looked down and murmured, "My Dad's in prison as far as I know..."

"You sure?"

"That's what Ma told me..." Blushing as he spoke, Nik would look away and murmur, "I still love him... he's my Dad... what do you expect from me?"

Spike would look to Nik and smile as he said, "Yeah... no matter what happens you kinda never lose you love for your Dad..." rolling over onto his back he looked up at the ceiling, he had to admit that he was feeling alittle more comfortable around someone of a different sexuality than his. "So... have you ever been with a guy... other than your father?"

"I'm dating a guy in town... I see him every weekend..." Nik mumbled lowering his head...

Blinking Spike would look to Nik and frown, "Something wrong?"

"Well... no not really...." Nik thought a moment before entwining his fingers and shuting his eyes to say, "I'm not really in a consensual relationship...."

"What do you mean?" Spike asked with a worried look as he rolled back onto his side staring at Nik.

"My Mum sold me to this guy as a pet... so... I could make money for the house.... but he's a sweet guy...." Nik looked away blushing a soft rosy color.

Spike blushed "So that means your a slave? And you do what other people tell you too?" leaning forward on the couch looking to Nik with wonder.

Nik shook his head lowering it alittle folding his ears back in abit of submission as the bigger older husky mumbling, "No... I obey my Master... and everyone he tell's me too...." blushing as he looked up alittle at the husky only to see a friendly smile from Spike. Smiling back at Spike he would say, "Spike... what are you thinking?"

"That you've been through alot that I have...." Spike scooted off the couch slowly and sat down with Nik saying, "I find it as a friendly connection for us..." smiling as he would offer a hand saying, "When this storm is over... if we make it through... would you like to help guide me back to my old cabin so I can be with my old friends again?"

Nik stared in a deep thought, than smiled and took Spike's hand in both of his as he said, "Yes. I'd be glad too..." Nik shook Spike's hand lightly and chuckled.

Spike smiled and looked down feeling a sort of ease having made a close friend, with similar problems in their life to his own... but... how could he make up what he did to Kiam?
