Life, something we all have for a time. For some its short, others long and difficult, and many other things. Then there is my life, A not so simple life that started to really get confusing one day in early March of 2005.

My name is Cody Decker, and welcome to the story of my life.

I yawned silently as I stretched my arms and jaw walking out of the jet way into the terminal at Denver international airport. I looked up above the heads of the crowd at signs that hung from the canvas roof of the airport, following them to the baggage claim. Upon reaching it I ran my hands through my shaggy dark brown hair, my left hand falling to my pocket to change the song playing on my phone to Where ever I may Roam by Metallica, while my other stayed in my hair twisting it out of boredom and habit as I waited. 'A free trip to Colorado and all have to do is catalog some animals for Dr. Chavis' I thought to myself as I waited.

As I was musing on this the corners of my mouth slowly crept up into a small grin as a thought passed through my mind, but my grin faded as my two duffle bags passed in front of me. Sighing I reached down and picked them up shrugging my shoulder to fix my backpack.

I waved down a cab in front of the terminal, as one pulled up and stopped he popped the trunk and I set my bags in before closing it and climbing the back and giving him the address the school had given me. Nodding he started the timer and pulled out on to the highway and started to drive out of the city. About an hour later we stopped in front of a dirt track that ran into the woods on the side of the road, the only thing giving away that there was a house around there was the mailbox on the side of the track. As I stepped out and got my bags I pulled my wallet out and handed him a $50

As he pulled away I took in the woods surrounding the drive way, taking a deep lungful of the fresh crisp Rocky Mountain air, I grabbed my two bags and started walking up the dirt road. As I walked down the right hand side of the road I took note of the fact that the left and right side had been left un-graveled, Shrugging I carried on. As I walked I felt the soft yet still firm soil beneath my boots, the only sounds that reached my ears, besides that of the crunch of the occasional stone under my boot, was the chirping of a few birds that returned early and the slowly fading sound of the occasional car going by on the highway.

I started to sing along to Beer For My Horses as it came on, my mind started wandering as I looked up and over toward the nearby mountain, I could see a mass of clouds gathering on the other side of it and quickened my pace slightly realizing there was a snow storm, possibly a blizzard coming. As I rounded a corner in the track I found myself right in front of the cabin, I walked up and put my hands on the rough cut slab of wood that was the front door. Sliding my hand down to the knob I turned it pushed it open, stepping inside I sighed as I turned closed and latched the door. Kicking off my boots next to the door I set about putting my bags in the bedroom, then starting a small fire in the fireplace to get the light nip out of the air. 'well, let see the fires lit, bags are put away, and....' I thought as I wandered back into the bedroom, raising my arms behind my head I caught a whiff of what I smelled like and almost gagged, "Okay I definitely need a shower."

I stepped out of the shower feeling and smelling a lot better than I did before I got in. After drying off I threw on some underwear and a pair of pajama pants and face planted on to the, surprisingly comfy, queen sized bed. Sighing softly I reached over on the nightstand and grabbed my phone, and sending the text I had typed up before jumping in the shower. Then it was to my laptop tying into the internet which I quickly flicked up to a recent news report over the growing tensions in the southeastern states. A large private military had started to amass, the leader of which had yet to be Identified. Smirking i stashed the computer and face planted into the surprisingly comfy bed, letting the blissfulness of sleep claim me

I looked out over the beautiful snow covered tree tops, my Icy blue eyes flicking between the pines and birch trees that dotted the area below me. Taking a deep breath I filled my lungs with the brisk cold mountain air as a slight smile came across my face. A soft meep escaped my throat as the was a sharp tug on the leash connected to the piece of leather around my neck that served as a collar, Sighing softly my foot paws dug into the soft snow under them as I turned to look back from the edge of the mountain. I shivered slightly as a gust of cold air rustled my snow white fur, save for the bits covered by the tops and shorts I was wearing. The ashy black stripes running along my body moved slightly as a I started walking back from the edge, those stripes marking me for what I was, a tigress.

"Come on you mangy cat," a gruff voice said as another tug was made on my leash, "Lets get off this mountain before that storm hits."

My eyes traced along the piece of leather that connected to my collar to the other end of it, which rested in the hands of my owner, a ragged looking human who really could use a shave and bundled in two layers of clothing and a heavy jacket.

Feeling another tug I just nodded submissively and started to follow him down the trail. As we walked I listened to the few birds around me chirping covering the soft whooshing of the wind through the trees in the valley below.

A sudden gust of wind blew in making my owner grab his hat to keep it on his head, "damned storms blowing in fast."

Then total white out, the clouds opened, dropping a heavy snowfall mixed with a fast wind. That's when my leash went slack, I gave it a tug and felt no resistance. A spark of joy flared in my heart, I was finally free from that bastard. I tried walking slowly down the trail keeping to the side closest to the mountain; I thought I was making good time until my paw hit a patch of ice. My first instinct kicked in as I tried digging my claws in, but they hand been trimmed, so they just scraped along. Feeling myself start to tip over the edge the only thing that went through my mind was, 'OH SHIT!' With that I went over the edge. It was just like one of those falling dreams, though the key difference being when I hit the bottom I didn't wake up, in fact it was just the opposite.

I woke with a splitting headache, groaning I groggily I raised a hand and rested it on my head, as I tried turn myself a sharp pain jolted up my left side like a bolt of lightning. Craning my neck I saw a line of red on my side, brushing aside the fur revealed the source, a six inch long half inch deep cut. Gaining my feet wearily I said to myself, "How the hell am I still alive?" Looking back behind me where the storm still circled the mountain and the cliff about 100 feet up, I just shook my head and started walking towards where I had seen a road from up top. I knew full and well that the storm wouldn't stay there long, so I quickened my pace through the damp snow, my breath clouding out in front of me as I walked. Each step brought about small stabs of pain from under my right hand, which lay over the cut. Breaking out of the trees I came to a dirt road, at first I was delighted, but then I noticed there were no recent tracks in the road meaning this was a side road, not the main road I was hoping for.

As I crossed over to the other side I glanced down and saw it, a trail of fresh boot prints. Going off the hope that the person was walking to town, I turned to follow the prints. As I continued on the smell of burning wood hit my nose, seeming to be coming from around the bend in the road. Speeding up I rounded the corner hoping to find the town, only to have my hopes dashed when I saw that I was starting at a wooden cabin. I let out a long sigh at this looking back at the mountain, seeing the storm was moving in.

Sighing I adjusted my top to give me some decency, mindful of the cut on my side. I walked up to the door and rapped on it a few times.
