This is a fan fiction of the course of the storyline of Dragonball Z. All original content is copyright to the original creators and owners. This fan fic introduces a fan-made character, and I plan to continue the storyline up to the end of the GT saga. Otherwise, enjoy.

Stretching himself, a lone warrior looks around. His comrades and foes lie together on the battlefield, bloodied, some missing limbs or heads. He just shook his head, sighing heavily to himself. Why had so many of his comrades fought against a foe that was this strong? And so many died? He looked over to see his father sitting beside a fire with what was left of his personal crew, all of them of the same race.

"We showed them how it was done, right Bardock?" One warrior said, his face covered in bruises, dirt, and grissle from the hunk of meat he was eating.

"Yes, but I'm more impressed at my son. He managed to survive despite his low power level."

"Please! Your oldest son isn't even stronger than Radditz, and your newborn son Kakarot is the worst of the lot!"

"Watch your tongue about my family! Sure, my brothers have varying power levels, but time will truly tell just how strong they can become." The young warrior issued, of course he was in his teenage years. His power level may have been calculated to be a mere 1000, but he still had techniques that even awed Lord Frieza, who he was leery of. He knew Frieza was powerful, and he couldn't even get an audience with him.

"Father, I understand that my brothers aren't as powerful right now, but they have the chance to one day, right?"

"Yes, my son, even you will grow powerful. I just hope King Vegeta will keep us alive with Frieza."

"For some reason, I don't trust him. There's something else he's planning."

"I understand son, I understand all too well. We must make for Planet Vegeta. I wish to see Kakarot."

They all nodded and headed for their ships. The young Saiyan didn't know about his father gaining Clairvoyance from the last of their enemies, but he needed to see his youngest brother. He was feeling something off though on the trip home, almost as if Frieza was moving forward with something heinous.

Once home, he and Bardock went to check on Kakarot, seeing him wail almost pitifully. The young warrior noticed another newborn, then read the name. His eyes narrowed, knowing that this would not be the last time he saw this Saiyan. He felt his father's hand on his shoulder.

"Listen to me son, take your brother and head off the planet. Take care of him, wherever you two end up, and above all, stay alive. I have but one thing left to do, and I may not return. Stay strong... Voldock..."

He only nodded and gathered his youngest brother before turning to his father. "What of Radditz?"

"I do not even know that. For all I know, he's doing a mission on another planet. Now hurry, you don't have much time."

Voldock nodded and headed to the loading dock, placing himself and his brother in two ships and set a course far away from Frieza's hold. The destination was planet Earth, and he knew nothing of what lay in store. What he did know is that he probably shouldn't show up with a scouter, so he tossed it away, as well as the armor and opted for the suit of clothing, then set off with his brother in tow.

After some time, they landed on the planet, both of their ships opening up, but Kakarot was still wailing as Voldock walked away from their landing, coming across an Earthling, although quite aged. He looked kind enough, and he knew he had to hide his nature of being battle-hardened and commanding tone.

"Not often does one find a young boy and a newborn baby out here. What can I do for you?" The old man asked, eyeing them closely.

"We are lost, my brother and I... I am weary from our travels and have done much to protect my infant brother. May I ask for shelter and food?"

"Lost kids? Well, I see no reason to turn anyone down, follow me. My name is Gohan, what are your names?"

"I'm afraid... we don't have any." He had to stay hidden, that was all he knew. He knew how to fight, but his brother wasn't so lucky.

"And you've been protecting your brother all this time? You must have some skill. I used to be a great martial artist, and I still know how to fight... perhaps I can train you and your brother."

Voldock blinked at this news. Seems there were some fighters on this planet, but without his scouter, he couldn't tell how strong. Plus, the idea of training could be beneficial for himself, and Kakarot. Once they arrived at Gohan's house, they ate a small meal in comparison to their normal meals and talked a bit.

"Listen, Gohan, I appreciate your hospitality, but we really have nowhere else to go. My brother and I are strange to your people, since we both have tails. I... I want to tell you everything, but I fear this may jeopardize our safety."

"Well, if that's how it's going to be, you both can live here. I'll name your brother Goku, but you... I'm sensing you have power within you, and not just from hearing your tale, whether it's false or not."

"Are you saying you have the ability to sense power levels without devices?"

"To a point, yes. Now, if you'll indulge me, please, tell me everything. I promise to keep your true tale a secret."

Seeing as how he had no choice, the old man gave them shelter and food, so the least he could do was tell him his tale. Afterwards, the old man stood up, looking at Voldock and Kakarot, now known as Goku.

"I see... so you fled to this planet to stay safe from a stronger evil that's bent on killing every single one of your race. It takes great bravery to thrust aside your old life and begin anew on a different planet. Goku however... I sense he will be unruly, but first, allow me to test your combat skills."

Voldock could only nod and readied himself. He knew that Gohan was strong, but how strong, he didn't know. Soon, Gohan lurched after him, and he barely blocked in time, sensing the strength, and for some reason, knew he was holding back. Block after block stopped the aged martial artist, giving the teenage Saiyan enough time to find an opening.

Once he found it, he struck, but was surprised when Gohan disappeared before his eyes and felt a fist in the small of his back. Trying everything possible to not kill the old man, he turned around, only to find him gathering energy to unleash a technique. He, himself, did the same, but unlike Gohan's energy, his own flared in a firey fashion.

"KAMEHAMEHA!!!" Was all Voldock heard and unleashed his own blast.

"TAKE THIS!!! BURNING BEAM!!!"

"Such strength... but I also sense compassion... a means to protect others... almost as if..." Gohan couldn't think further as the firey beam pushed his blast out of the way, barely dodging it himself, gazing at the teen before him.

"I'm glad you jumped out of the way Gohan. I didn't want to kill you, but that was the only technique I had that could even stop yours. The other technique I have would have killed you instantly."

Gohan just nodded, relaxing himself and smiling at the teenager. He slowly walked towards Voldock, gently patting his shoulder. "So, tell me then, does Flame sound appropriate for you?"

He blinked, a bit stunned. "Would others even accept that as a name?"

"Ho ho. You showed me you have compassion, and the strength to continue fighting to protect those you care for. The burning fire of compassion burns brightly in you."

He just nodded, ready to help out, no matter what. But he did have something on his mind. He knew several abilities about Saiyans altogether. After each near-death experience, a Saiyan's power increases dramatically, and should a planet have a moon, any Saiyan with a tail would transform into a giant ape. He expressed his concern to Gohan, who looked over at the sleeping Goku.

"If that's the case, then we really need to do something about that. Perhaps you and your brother should go to sleep before sunset. Also, is there any weaknesses about Saiyans?"

"Yes... their tails. But there are those who have trained themselves to completely ignore the pain."

"Hm... perhaps you could train yourself to do such a thing."

"I have thought about it."

"For now, let us rest."

They headed inside for some rest, it was already sunset anyway. As they slept, Voldock, now known as Flame, could only think of his father, and if he was dead or not. If Bardock was dead, then he had to get strong enough to pay Frieza back, or at least his brother. He had so much on his mind, training his tail, caring for his brother, and most of all, survival.
