The Adventures of Sollus Dellager

Part 3: Sins of Our Fathers

As Sollus turned and flew away, Zach felt an emotion he had had a hard time feeling as of late: He was happy. He had a true friend in Sollus... perhaps even more than a friend. The man had entrusted him with his deepest secret. He still wasn't used to even the thought of it. Imagine! His friend, a dragon...! Excitement began to well up inside him, mind dancing with the possibilities and advantages of having a dragon as a friend. He almost decided to run straight back for his cave right then, but it was too late in the evening; the sun was going down, and he needed to let Victor know he'd not run off. Barely able to contain his newfound joy, he all but skipped his way back towards town.

As he approached Victor's ranch, the door to his house burst open - he must have been watching out the window, waiting for him.

"Zach! Where the hell have you been all day? I had to do most of your work myself!" Zach had a giant smile on his face as he approached and he decided to tease the man a little before revealing his prize. He knew that the 'gold' coin in his pocket would placate him no matter what he said.

"I was out in the forest, helping Sollus prepare for winter."

"Helping him? You were needed here!" His voice rose. "You were already behind for the day! Why'd you think that I'd be okay with you running off to work for someone else? I ought to fire you right now, leave you to beg on the streets for your meals!" Victor whirled to go in, furious.

"Oh, so you don't want this gold coin? He said to give it to you, an apology for borrowing me all day." He paused and turned back around incredulously. As he caught sight of the coin, he moved with remarkable swiftness, walking straight back up to Zach.

"Let me see that!" He snatched the coin away, coin glinting in the light as he eyed it. "I had no idea Sollus was this wealthy, nor this generous..." The anger gradually faded from his eyes and he sighed, shoulders lowering. "You really shouldn't lead me on like that. I was this close to firing you." The young man simply smiled. "Bah!" He waved to Zach in dismissal. "Get to bed you, and be up early! We'll have a lot of work to do tomorrow."

He could not wipe the grin off his face as he trotted off towards the bunkhouse. Not wanting to wake anybody else, he entered quietly and crawled straight into his bed. Almost immediately, he fell into one of the most peaceful sleeps of his life.

~

Sollus awoke to the sun already at its peak, nights of restless sleep finally having caught up with him; he felt rejuvenated for the first time in days. He yawned and stretched, blinking the sleep from his eyes. Rather than hunting, he decided he'd do something different -- perhaps head into town and get a bite to eat with Zach. However, as he walked towards the mouth of his cave, his eye caught the glint of metal. Startled, he quickly ducked back into the dimness of his cave.

He needed to investigate this; if someone had found his lair, he had to know. He muttered arcane words under his breath and was shortly under his familiar human guise. He dashed out of the cave, bushes outside hiding his egress, and slid with cat-like grace to the forest floor. Pausing, he listened to hear if anyone had noticed, but heard nothing.

He walked through the forest for a ways, angled away from his cave, and then hiked casually back towards where he'd seen the metallic sheen. As he neared, a man drew into sight, his back turned to him. He was dressed entirely in black leather, not dissimilar to Sollus' own, with a sizable sword sheathed across his back. Where the glinting had come from was obvious - the sword's hilt was polished to a brilliant sheen.

He deliberately stepped on some sticks and dried leaves as he approached, hoping to get the man's attention without startling him too badly. The man whirled, his hand on his sword's hilt in an instant.

"Halt! Who're you? State your purpose here!"

"I might ask the same of you." He responded calmly. "I'm a woodsman, and this forest is my home." The stranger relaxed, grip on his sword loosening.

"I see. How fortunate, someone who knows these parts could be a boon. My name is Zaed. Would you happen to be willing to help me?" Sollus raised an eyebrow.

"Well met, Zaed. The name's Sollus. As for help, well now, that really depends on just what you're looking for." The man's face hardened.

"I don't want to alarm you, but my crew and I have received word of a dragon in these parts." Sollus' heart froze. His eyes widened and an audible gasp escaped his lips. They know? How could that be? Who told them? Victor? ...Zach? Zaed noticed his reaction, but merely assumed it was because of his revelation.

"Aye, I received the letter at dusk yesterday and got here as soon as I could to scout around while the rest of my company arrives. We intend to do a full investigation, and if we find the beast we'll put it down, as all its kind deserves." Sollus forced himself to relax.

"Ridiculous. There're no dragons around here, friend. I've patrolled these woods for two years now, and I haven't seen the smallest trace of one." The hunter raised a brow at that.

"Surely you know of the small pond nearby. Not 30 feet distant, I found a tree that had been knocked clean down. There are no creatures around here that can do that, and this region hasn't had any storms lately, either." The man's logic was sound; he was clearly experienced, and had scouted thoroughly. What if he'd found me in my sleep? I might already be dead.

"Well, it's on my usual route, just haven't been by there today." He quickly shut his mouth, already realizing that he'd trapped himself.

"Ah! So it happened yesterday, then! No scorch marks either, so it wasn't magic from some rogue wizard... No, it had to have been done by some great beast." Sollus knew he had to do something about this; he couldn't let an entire band of dragon slayers roam the area freely.

"Tell me woodsman, have you ever been into that cave up there before?" He was clearly gesturing in the direction of his home. "I was just about to climb up to it when you arrived."

Sollus was panicking on the inside. This was very bad. Like some sick joke of fate, the man said one of the only things that could make it worse.

"Mind taking a look with me?" His heart sank in his chest. What choice did he have? If he declined, the man would look anyway, and he might cast suspicion on himself. If he agreed, he'd be exposed. Anybody could tell that something lived in there with just a quick glance inside. In the midst of his panic, an idea slowly hatched in his mind - an idea which could simultaneously save his own hide and ensure that they'd need not check his cave again.

"Well, sure, but I'm pretty sure that cave's empty. Although... Winter's coming on, might be a bear's taken up residence. Let's be careful." Slowly they climbed towards his home, Sollus deliberately leading the way. He sped up slightly, lengthening the distance to give him a little time. As he crested the top, a spell was already on his lips. With a wave of his hands he placed an illusory veil across the cave some 15 feet in. His bedding and his small collection of trinkets and weapons seemed to disappear before his eyes.

This way was riskier - the veil was permeable, after all - but there were just too many things to make them all invisible. He prayed silently to himself that the hunter wouldn't bother going too far in and slip past the veil. Zaed followed him up, briefly casting a quizzical glance in his direction. His attention quickly shifted into the dark cave.

"Hmmm..." He squinted a little, eyes scanning thoroughly. "Yep, seems to be empty alright."

"Yea," he ventured, confidence returning somewhat, "The cave goes on back a bit more, but there's not enough light to venture back. Besides, the paths are far too narrow for anything as big as a dragon." The dragon hunter frowned.

"They can be tricky though. Change their shape, squeeze into tight places." He produced a torch from his side, much to Sollus' dismay. Some of his new-found confidence deserted him.

"Oh come on, it's empty. Not like a dragon's just materialized in there lately." Zaed fumbled with his flint and tinder and smiled at the larger man.

"Afraid of the dark, are you?" The torch burst to life, the illusion shimmering briefly in the initial flare. Thinking quickly and with a flick of his hand Sollus commanded the barrier to absorb light rather than reflect it. Zaed didn't seem to notice.

"Alright then, let's see if there's anything in this place!" His mind was reeling, and he could think of nothing that would deter this man. Zaed's confident gait brought him closer and closer to his fragile illusion. In moments his secret would be revealed. Dragon slayers would know that he lived there and his comfortable life would be over an instant...

A flash of insight struck him, and he quietly praised his own quick wit. Sollus raised his hands and commanded the veil to move, to envelop the hunter and still show blank cave walls. The man continued to move forward, unhindered and oblivious. He lowered his hands, anticipating that he may look back at any moment to see if he was following. As if on cue, Zaed turned.

"So are you coming then?" Sweat broke out on his brow from the effort required to sustain both his own transformation and this difficult illusion.

"No, no. Go on ahead. Exploring it once was more than enough for me."

"Suit yourself!" Sollus' heart jumped. Zaed was walking straight for a weapon he'd left carelessly tossed on the floor. Raising his hands once more, he prepared to layer yet another spell on top of this mess. Telekinesis was complex at the best of times, and he hoped that he could move it out of the way without losing control of everything else. The weapon scraped loudly out of the way and he winced. Zaed whirled to face the noise.

"Did you hear that?!" He couldn't believe he'd forgotten to muffle the sound. There was too much going on here... As the man turned to face him, he caught him in the depths of concentrated casting. The surprise at being caught in the act was all it took to break his fragile concentration. The veil he'd woven wavered, then buckled in on itself and shattered into nothingness.

Zaed stood there stunned. He quickly took in his new surroundings: the hide bed, the weapons... and the strange man at the mouth of the cave, who clearly had a good grasp of the magical arts.

"This is a dragon's lair! And you, you must be some kind of wizard. You're covering for it, aren't you?" He was still tired from maintaining the illusion, but he had reason enough to try and salvage things.

"You must understand! This dragon is different! He means no harm to the people of this valley! He wishes only to live here in peace."

"You are wrong." His face turned dark. "Dragons cannot be trusted. They are monsters to whom humans are nothing but their sick playthings. I command you to tell me where this dragon is. If you refuse, then I will cut you down where you stand, mage or not."

"No no, please! You must listen, this dragon won't kill anyone! He wouldn't hurt anyone unless he was forced to!" He drew his sword, clearly ignoring every word he was saying.

"So be it then; I will find this dragon without your aid. May your gods take pity on you, Sollus." He lowered his sword and charged. Sollus was stunned but knew what he had to do. He dashed to the side, leaping to the open center of the cave and dodging the charging hunter. As the man whirled to attack once more, Sollus dropped the illusion around himself. He stood stock still, sword at ready, and glared at the dragon before him as the pieces fell into place.

"So, you are the dragon then. I'll not run from you, beast. I ran once, but never again. Never!"

"Please, Zaed! Stay your arms, I mean no harm!" Even as he spoke the man was charging straight for him once more. He had no choice. He lowered his head and met the human's spirited bull-charge, the sword clanging uselessly the hard plate atop his head. With a quick flip of his head he smashed the man in the side with one great black horn and set him crashing to the ground.

He recovered quickly, clambering to his feet only to be met with a giant armored tail whipping around to slam directly into his ribs. All the wind went out of him as he flew into the cave wall, the man's body limp as he slid to ground.

Zaed coughed, spattering the ground with blood, his previously hale body now battered horribly by the blows, his sword arm bent at an impossible angle.

"Just like a dragon, then. Killing, you're always killing. If you were truly as noble as you claimed, you would lie down and die for the crimes of your race." He coughed again, choking on blood, a hideous gurgling escaping him before his chest at last went still.

Sollus stood there paralyzed, regarding the broken body. What have I done? He stared for quite some time, unable to bring himself to move. He smashed the ground in frustration with one paw, pain unheeded. He wanted to curl up, pretend it was all a dream. Pretend that this man had never shown up in the first place. He'd just wanted to go have lunch, and then...!

He smashed the cave floor once more, and drew a deep shuddering breath, eyes settling again on the body. Moving in a daze, he picked the battered remains up delicately in one paw and wandered disconsolately down the slope into the forest.

He found an out of the way spot and placed the body aside. With his claws he dug out a trench in the ground, deep enough for it to go unnoticed by even the most wily of scavengers. Work done, he placed the body carefully within its grave, arranging his arms across his chest with care, a stab of guilt running through his heart. He covered the grave as quickly as he made it, patting it down and camouflaging it with brush. An unmarked grave - what a fate to meet...

Today was supposed to be a good day. He was supposed to go to town and meet Zach for lunch, to talk to his new-found companion. He was going to talk about how things might go for them, but now...now what? Pushing aside everything that had happened for the moment, there were so many issues that needed dealing with. A band of dragon slayers was on the way. They might even be in Temaria right now, and what would they think about their missing friend? His disappearance would only add to reaffirm their belief that there was a dragon in the area.

Who had seen him in the first place, anyway? Who had found out that a dragon was nearby and called on these men? He needed answers. He wouldn't let anything endanger the happiness he had found, he couldn't lose Zach. But it would have to wait; he had had all he could take for one day.

Sollus trundled back to his cave, almost subconsciously snatching up a deer on the way back to quiet his now rumbling stomach. At least he wouldn't sleep on an empty stomach. But as he approached the cave entrance, he saw somebody sitting there, waiting. His heart raced, thinking it might be more dragon slayers, but his pulse slowed as he recognized Zach. He shook himself and tried to throw himself out of the daze he was in, putting on a little false cheerfulness as he approached.

"There you are, Sollus! Where've you been?" He seemed so genuinely happy to see him that it lifted his own spirits a little.

"It has been a long day my friend." He paused and stared unseeing into the distance behind him. He shook his head a little, deciding that he'd keep what had happened to himself for now. No need to bring him down, too. "I was just out getting little dinner." Zach chuckled.

"Not another of Victor's cows I hope!" The big dragon felt a little bit of his former cheer returning, a little grin alighting on his face. He could almost forget earlier when he was around him.

"No, no. Not another of those stupid animals, not after last time!" He passed by him, leading him into the cave as he laid down on his hides. He stretched for a moment and made himself comfortable, then gestured Zach over.

"I missed you today, Sollus." He nestled down between his foreleg once more, smiling to himself. However, the smile did not last long. "What really happened to you today?" His gaze traveled up the dragon's neck, looking at him appraisingly from his low position.

He tensed, slightly surprised. He must have been a much worse liar than he thought he was. A long, low sigh escaped his muzzle, chest vibrating lightly against his friend.

"Today, a dragon slayer attacked me in my cave. I tried to fend him off, tried to tell him I was friendly, but... I was forced to kill him. There was nothing I could do." Zach sat up straight as a rod, whole body taut in surprise.

"What? How did this happen? Tell me everything!" So the dragon did. He recounted from the moment he woke up: How he'd planned to meet Zach in town, how he met the dragon slayer, how he had... killed him. He recounted the man's dying words, some pain audible in his voice.

"I feel horrible... The man's death was my fault. I should have done something, anything!" Zach looked up at Sollus from below, trying to meet his gaze as he spoke.

"I don't think so. At every opportunity you tried to spare his life. You wanted him to live! Even with your identity discovered, you still didn't plan to kill him. All you did was defend yourself." He was right, he had tried to let him live. He harbored no malice towards him, even wished to show him that he wasn't evil, wasn't to be feared! Some measure of relief swept over him, quelling the worst of his guilt.

"I...I think you have the right of it. But still, it hurts that there are so many people in the world that despise my race; people that unquestioningly believe us to be vicious and cruel. So many people that believe us violent monsters fit only for extermination, just as Zaed did." His gaze drifted out the mouth of the cave, contemplating the evening sky. "I need to do something about that troupe of dragon slayers. I refuse to let them find out about me, nor about you."

Sollus leaned his head down and nuzzled against the human, licking gently at his face.

"H-hey now! Just what are you doing?" Zach laughed. He didn't answer yet, instead playfully licking at the human's hair and face.

"Oh come on, you wanted to be in a relationship with a dragon, you should expect these things." He slowly relented as Zach blushed brightly, even noticeable in the low light.

"Not that I mind a little of that, but how much further could we go? How would we ever...? There's a bit of a size issue..." He patted the leg he was leaning against pointedly, nearly half his size.

"Well," He coughed awkwardly. "There are ways. It seems rather soon though; we don't have to do anything yet."

"I know it's just, I'd like to maybe have a little fun. You know," He blushed hard, a little surprised at himself. His mind had been wandering with possibilities since the day before, but he'd thought he'd keep them to himself.

"I'll trust you. Just let me know what you want to do." The great dragon smiled down at him. Zach grinned to himself, a little unsure but letting the momentum carry him, afraid to think too much about it lest he lose nerve.

"Lie on your back." Sollus rumbled softly, tail-tip giving a small subconscious wag as he moved to comply. Lifting his bulk, he rolled slowly over onto his back, exposing his smooth black belly to him. The tiniest hint of red was already visible between his legs, even this small act of exposing himself enough to get him a little bit excited. He stared down his body towards Zach, resisting the momentary urge to cover himself once more, waiting to see how he'd react.

He climbed up atop the dragon's chest, heart beating rapidly in his chest. The scales beneath his hands were surprisingly soft to the touch, and with a start he realized he could feel the dragon's rapid heartbeat almost mirroring his own. He looked down towards him and gave a reassuring grin filled with more confidence than he actually had. Twisting around on his belly he approached the slowly hardening shaft, the massive hind-legs subtly spread. He gulped. Sollus watched silently, trying to slow his breathing and stop the nervous twitching of his tail.

He reached towards the stiffening length, hand brushing delicately against it. The whole thing radiated heat, pulsing powerfully with the dragon's heartbeat. It was massive, nearly as long as his arm and thick as a small sapling, more streamlined than his own. The only significant difference he noticed was the impressive bulging of flesh near the base of it. He wondered if it was sensitive...

Sollus shivered beneath him from even that light touch. Zach heard a gasp and felt his friend's breathing speed up, huge chest rising and falling beneath him. He was sensitive - it must have been a long while since he'd done anything. As for him, this was his first time not just with a dragon, but with anyone at all.

Zach got on his knees and his head crested over it, powerful scent just hitting him - strong, but not at all unpleasant. He took a deep breath, the scent slowly growing on him, the tightness in his pants almost unbearable now. Too far to change his mind now, and gradually caring less and less, he gave the tip a small lick. The tremendous thrust almost sent him flying, the deep rumbling sigh it elicited shaking him. He loved it, worry disappearing as he wrapped his arms around it, hugging the length lightly against his body.

"Could you..." The dragon inhaled sharply as he pressed his length against himself. "Take off your clothes? They're a bit rough." He was all too eager, stripping and throwing them off to the side in a heartbeat. He hesitated a moment before stripping his thin underpants off as well, his own arousal stiffening rapidly as it was freed from its prison.

His great tail stroked steadily along the ground as he saw him strip for the first time. He...He liked what he saw, the work he had to do had left him rather fit, and as his own arousal popped free he felt himself flush with pleasure. The sight made him lick his chops and buck gently again, nearly sending the poor man off balance once more.

Underpants discarded, he kneeled back down on the dragon's belly, wrapping his nude arms around it, sensation of bare skin on skin and scales making him shiver. The length was already slightly slick to the touch, and more pre was sliding down the length already, each little buck of the dragon's hips bringing more. Working his hands along the length, sounds, movements and soft moans letting him know how well he was doing. Every time his hand brushed against the bulging base, Sollus writhed and bucked in pleasure, and he couldn't help but grin to himself as he confirmed his earlier thought.

The great dragon heaved loudly, his small bucks and thrusts getting more and more rapid, soft animalistic growls brewing deep in his throat. Abruptly, Sollus' entire body tensed beneath him and he let out the loudest moan yet. He stroked rapidly, rubbing and squeezing the thick base licking at the tip until at last the dragon roared his approval. His hips thrust almost unconsciously into the air, whole length throbbing in his grasp as the first spurt of seed hit him square in the face and into his still open mouth.

He sputtered and drew back, surprised at the force and volume of it. Again and again his hips thrust into the air until at last he rode out his peak, each incredible spurt weaker than the last. Zach fell back onto his chest, covered nearly head-to-toe in dragon seed, his whole body smelling strongly of draconic musk. The dragon lifted his head up from the floor and looked towards Zach, meeting his gaze as he stared back at him.

"Oh, what a talented little human you are," he panted out slowly, grin spreading across his snout. He reached down and scooped him up in both paws, bringing him before his muzzle. "Let's just get you cleaned up then, shall we?" A thick tongue snaked out of his muzzle, licking all over his body, cleaning the worst of the mess. Zach couldn't help but moan softly, the strange massaging sensation all over his body like nothing he'd ever experienced before.

Even clean, he continued to explore his body with his tongue, questing carefully until it found what it was searching for. Zach shuddered in pleasure and thrust himself forward, grabbing the horns in front of him for support as he grinded along the tongue in pleasure. His great jaw cracked in a lewd smile as he pulled the whole length carefully into his muzzle. Zach writhed against the dragon's muzzle, hands clutching tight as he thrust himself into the dragon's maw, his eyes squeezed tightly shut.

"By the gods..." Mindful of his teeth, Sollus wrapped his tongue all around the human's length, squeezing and massaging it, licking at the underside and the sensitive tip equally. Sollus decided to stop teasing the human and rumbled loudly as he rubbed his tongue across his tip once more.

The vibrations proved too much for Zach and he almost called out, falling forward onto the dragon's nose as bucked frantically into the dragon's maw, covering his tongue with his seed. As he finally finished, he laid there limp on the dragon's muzzle, eyes cracking open once more to look at his draconic friend. Sollus pulled gently off his length, licking it clean and swallowing with an audible gulp as he did. He let out a small sigh of contentment and placed the human back down on his chest. They both simply stared at each other in silence, basking in each other's presence.

"See? I told you there were things we could do."

"That was amazing... You're amazing, Sollus." For a time they lied there still, basking in the afterglow. Each was wondering what life might be like together, and both knew in their hearts they'd never wish to abandon the other.

Zach climbed down and grabbed his discarded clothing, dressing himself, Sollus looking on silently. He walked towards the mouth of the cave, turning back to look at Sollus from the entrance.

"I'll see you tomorrow. We can grab some lunch together!" He nodded down at the human, too exhausted from his experiences to be able to do a whole lot else. As the figure disappeared, he fell asleep almost immediately. The last thought on his mind was that he should really take a bath tomorrow.

Well, that was a fun one eh? I was debating whether or not to include the sex in this chapter, but I decided to do it anyways, I know it makes this a lot longer, but I think it came out pretty well. As usual, let me know what you think, i'm always happy to hear from readers! What about those dragon slayers too eh? What sort of trouble will we run in to next chapter? Who called them in? What will be the ultimate fate of Zach and Sollus?! Find out next time(s)!
