#1 of A War To Remember

Alan and Noelle go to war. Or do they?

_This is my first upload for this site. Its kinda short and my English sucks at the moment. I'd gladly take any constructive critique. (Except the bashing kind, no one likes to be bashed.) I'm native in German and English but I'd like to get my English back on track. Sentences might end up longer than they should, grammar might be a little off. If you notice anything, feel free to take note and show me! _

Chapter One

Noelle hugged Timothy one last time. She slipped her paw out of his and made her way to the van that would take her down to the war. Alan gave Celeste one last kiss on the cheek and joined Noelle. They got into the van, one after the other and sat down on the banks lining the walls. Alan sighed, folding his ears back. Noelle cocked her head. "It won't be too long. Don't worry, she'll be okay." The white fox gave her a tired smile. "I'll try to believe you." Noelle viewed him over. She couldn't help the feeling she had when she saw a man in uniform. A little part of her melted. Timothy was never fond of wearing a uniform. Alan made the uniform look good. He was a white fox, the tips of his ears and tail looked as if they were dipped in black ink. He had jet black hair and amazing green eyes. She smiled back at him. "What about Timothy? Aren't you worried something could...y'know, go wrong?" Her smile turned wry. "Oh, I doubt that. He'll be way too busy with his silly card games to try to court other women." Alan chuckled. Right, the card games. It seemed childish. It was obviously an addiction so no one understood why Noelle continued to date Timothy. She was a very beautiful anthromorphic Wolfdog. She had the sturdy build of a wolf, yet she was quick and quiet like a Border Collie. Her fur was a merled blue, the length of her arms and her neck were white. The hair, currently tied into a tight bun, was a dark blonde. Her eyes were as bright as a clear ocean. And Noelle was right, what other woman would want a guy that was addicted to a children's trading card game? The van took them to the military airport. From there, they took a loud, long journey to the post where they were going to be stationed for the next three months. Noelle and Alan were both glad it wasn't going to be far as long as some other soldiers had to endure. They were both in the military police. It often meant that they were needed at their original base more. On the flight, Alan thought about Celeste. She was a elegant black cocker spaniel. He thought about the curling hair on her ears, about her soft brown eyes...and the many men she has had since the first time they've dated. They met a long time ago. It was in eighth grade. He was still a kit....and she was still a puppy. He used to be the casanova, dating a lot of girls because he knew he looked good. They broke up because he wanted a different girl. And along came Noelle. She didn't really appeal to him in that courting type of way. She never thought of him that way either. However, they did have a special connection. It was something neither of them could put their paw pad on. Others noticed it too. Celeste would say Noelle was her 'Foster Alan'. The two were very alike. It was as if they were once split and put into the bodies of the two different genders. Like soul mates. Celeste always loved Alan. Celeste's obesession with Alan never ceased, much to Noelle's dismay. Noelle was Celeste's best friend. She had to put up with the constant longing and bickering of a unhappy cocker. She'd date other men, only to complain that they weren't even half as good as Alan. All along, Noelle never held a grudge against the fox. Although Celeste wasn't, by far, the only mess Noelle had to clean up. After Alan moved away, the new girlfriends would get in touch with Noelle just to hear what the female part of Alan had to say to the relationship demeanor. It was frustrating but she always protected Alan. For a long time, Noelle didn't hear anything from Celeste or Alan. It was just a little over three years when Alan decided to get back in touch with Noelle. He had missed her greatly. And he needed to tell her that he and Celeste were back together. They planned to get married. Noelle wasn't surprised. Alan had joined the military. Noelle planned to do the same. After Celeste had also moved away from where Noelle was residing as a pup, she met Timothy. He was a large, well built, black and tan Hovawart. He had always played the card games. Noelle figured it was a phase. She was very wrong. But she just couldn't let Timothy go... Now, after such a long time of basic training, Alan and Noelle were in the same plane to the same war. They were both 21. They had so much to live for, yet nothing to lose. Fighting for their country was what they pictured themselves doing.

At the new post, Alan and Noelle were brought to their new living quarters. The area the post was at was very dry. It was like a desert. It was hot. Nothing seemed to grow. Alan followed Noelle to her new room since neither of them wanted to be alone. "Its actually kind of neat here. The room is awefully cozy." Alan snorted. "You and your optimism. War is never good. These rooms suck and you know it." Noelle folded her ears back in embarrassment. "Yeah. I try to keep things nice to some extent though... I mean, why not? Life won't get any better if we always look at it from its dark sides." Alan smiled at her. He opened his arms. "Come here." Noelle grinned and hugged him. "We'll get through this just fine, Alan. Stop worrying," she whispered into his shoulder. Alan reminisced in her words. He didn't want to let her go. Alan's ears perked. He heard a whistle. "Oh no..." His eyes got wider and his grip on Noelle tightened. Noelle looked up. "What--" Alan pushed her head back into his chest and threw himself on the ground. Before he could even yell 'Bomb!', everything around him flashed.
