One may call life alone in the mountains a miserable, depressing existence. What little contact with others one may receive is brief, fleeting glances at the most through frosted glass. Many may wonder whether such extreme solitude is either a blessing or a curse. Very few ever get the chance to experience what the mind actually does when left to it's own devices, and how much havoc it may cause if left unchecked for far too long. "I originally planned on moving south, to some exotic far off island, however, my financial situation dictated that I take a job up in the lonesome mountains of Nuridge, some god awful township in the middle of nowhere. The weather, although ruthless and unforgiving, did provide one thing I had been in search for, peace and quiet. Having been raised in the city, I never truly got to experience all the things nature had to offer. Things as simple as star-gazing were made near impossible due to the bright lights that constantly bathed the city's skies. However, sitting in this old lodge they provided me for my research, I finally understand why some people can be so fasinated with things so far away. I have to laugh at myself from time to time, deep down inside I know that I've never truly grown up. Looking down at these makeshift piles of logs and indices, I have take a brief pause and wonder to myself, is any of this research truly amounting to any benefit? Signed Nicolai Briggsby"

Tolderson shifted his eyes from the tattered journal back to his client, his expression had gone completely blank after reaching the end of the passage. "As you can see, your father was quite the inquisitive type." The old rodent hemmed as he shifted through various forms. "You'll be wise in not following his footsteps young mas-." The lynx hisses softly at the suggestion, "I would highly suggest that you'd leave those remarks unsaid, Mister Tolderson." The interruption left the elder rodent some what shaken, however, he continued carefully with his business. "As you wish, young master Briggsby." The rodent nodded once in acknowledgement before looking back at the lynx that sat before him. "Elric...Your father left specific instructions that you were to go and meet with Mistress Lilabee this afternoon." Elric, narrowed his eyes, he rose up from his chair and placed his paw firmly and heavily on the rodent's rosewood desk. The sound rang out through the room as if a cannon had just been fired from the docks nearby. "Mister Tolderson...I will see to it that my father's affairs are taken care of before this time tomorrow, is that understood?" Elric snared before storming out of the office. "Y-Yes young master." With the absence of his superior, Tolderson let out a heavy sigh, and hid his face into his paws. "If only you were here Nicolai..." __________________________________________________________________________________

The streets of Timbural was bustling with it's normal activity, women mingled amoungst gentlemen as children ran from place to place on the street playing. Elric sneared at the display of complete bliss, "Only simpletons would be so complacent with such squalid surroundings." He quickly made his way through the crowd, his leather soles cracking hard into the cobblestone road. Tall brick row houses on either side of him were buzzing with common chatter, children yelling and laughing, with parents joining in on occasion. Turning past the local scribe's shop, the Pensington Arboretum came into view. The grand green tinted glass dome glinted in the sun's light, showing faint silhouettes of a large variety of trees. From a distance, Mistress Lilabee was a sight to behold, however, on closer inspection, one could say that her beauty was indeed a weapon of any man's destruction. The minx stood poise, her posture almost to near perfection, her dress, while tailored for functionality, still did it's best to flatter her figure. Elric strolled toward his instructor, his efforts mainly focused on keeping his composure. "G-Good evening Head Mistress, I ensure you that all of the preparations have been ma-." Elric, however, was silent by a quick motion of the Mistress's paw. She paused for a moment, perking her ears, the minx was fixated on something that was out of Elric's realm of hearing. A moment passed, and his instructor relaxed, shifting her attention to her student. "Please continue with your report Briggsby, and please, be more precise." She said as she motioned for him to follow. Elric flinched and awkwardly started to fall in step with the Mistress. "Yes, all preparations for the voyage have been made and all of-" "Secured." She spat. "Y-yes, my apologies, all preparations have been secured. All of the deckhands have been checked throughly, as to ensure a smooth passage for the company." He cleared his throat before continuing. "Head Mistress?" She stopped, turning to face her student, "Yes Mister Briggsby? Is there something of concern?" Elric averted his eyes, and cleared his throat yet again. "Y-Yes, it was in reference t-to the map." He knew that such a question from an low-ranking member meant heftly punishment, however, his curosity had gotten the best of him. "Yes, the map...However, before we get onto that subject Mister Briggsby, might I say, you are a spitting image of your father? You would have made him proud for choosing to join the ranks of the Alxian Academy. Such a grand man he was..." She pulled something from her blouse pocket, and extended it to the young lynx. "Your father handed this to me for safe keeping when we were overseeing research down in the Ulcirsin Mines, he said, 'No matter what happens, ensure that my son receive this.' I felt today would be an excellent day for you to read it." She expression had softened from her normal visage, her lips forming a faint smile as she watched the lynx read. "B-But this can't be correct Head Mistress..." He sighed, what he read wasn't something his father would have said. It seemed too out of character for such a cold and distance father. "No, your father placed great faith in your future success, and today, that faith will be proven well placed. You are to report to the prepared ship and fall under Admiral Hia'yel, you will then be tasked with the work your father had yet to finish...The work he wished for you to complete...Congratulations are in order, for today, your journey begins.
