#2 of Dexter & Lacey

"Dexter!?" The voice pierced the silent sounds of the suburban home. Dexter lay on his bed, the morning sun shining brightly on his young onyx fur, the brown spots barely visible. He looked around his room for the last time, a tear stained pillow gripped tightly in his arms. The beige walls illuminated the room, reflecting the image of the young wolf fur, 11 years old. So many memories ran through his mind at that moment, but now this place had become a barren wasteland.

"Lacey, stop it, haha!" Dexter shouted as the husky lay atop him, tickling him unmercifully. Lacey, a husky of 7, sat on him; her snow white fur shoved in his face. The only way to describe the sight was as if you were looking at an Oreo cookie, the top already taken off. It was the perfect blend of black & white.

"Say it and I'll stop," He may have been a wolf, and a few months her senior, but he was very short for his age. Looking at him you would see a very young woof, standing around 4 foot 5; his fur was like an onyx stone, shining brightly in the sun. Several brown tufts of fur adorned his frail body, standing out like a sore thumb. Since he was a cub, he was obviously adorable, but if for some reason that wasn't cute enough, his eyes would do the trick. His entire form was truly a sight to behold, his eyes of a deep emerald lost in a sea of black, but completely visible.

"Okay! Okay!" The young wolf couldn't stand it any longer, his stomach hurting from the laughter. "Girls rule and boys drool! Can you get off of me now?!" Hearing what she had wanted the husky got off of her wolf friend. She was a near opposite of the wolf himself. She stood at a comfortable 4 foot 7, her slender body, barely womanly yet, was covered in a perfect creamy white blend. If one were to stare closely, or even pay attention for that matter, several highlights of a grey blue would shine in the light. Her eyes were a perfect match to the highlights. A blend of blue and white, compact into one small sphere. Like Dexter's, her eyes were something to be admired, a wonderful sapphire gem placed delicately on what some would call a Goddess in the making.

Lacey grabbed her friends paw and rushed out the door, heading towards the park. It was a short walk at that, but still wonderful. Upon reaching the park several swings and a bunch of monkey bars surrounded a lake, but off in the distance, there was a giant hill. The two headed for their "secret" spot, a giant oak tree just past the hill. At the very bottom of the oak tree, there was a hole... only big enough for 2 furs, convenient?

A tear rolled down Dexter's cheek before grabbing his bag and rushing out of his room and down the stairs. "Sorry mom, just having one last moment..." once the final word escaped his mouth, he was out the door heading to the car. He frivolously opened the door, tossing his bag in the back seat and plopping himself in, nearly drained of all energy.

"I guess we're all ready to go then..." Dexter's mom finally entered the car, her voice taken over with a slight grimace.

The wolf took one last look at the house next door. In the few minutes that he was upstairs, it began to rain, the rain falling heavily barely making the streets visible. Even through the rain, the house shined brightly to him, and up in the window, he saw her. His best friend standing up on the second story, her eyes bloodshot from too many tears; her face fur completely matted and stained with the salty pain. Both their tears had come to a rest, but the anguish in their hearts remained.

"But Dexter, you can't leave!" The 11 year old husky turned white, even beyond her natural fur color.

"Lacey... I feel so bad... I-I don't think I can leave you," the black wolf took deep breaths as he sobbed, embracing his best friend who sat before him. Not before long the two lay down in silence, Lacey's delicate frame atop the growing wolf. Dexter had grown considerable from when they had first met, his body starting to gain some muscle. He had once been shorter, now nearly towered over her, Lacey's head just barely coming up to his chest now.

"Don't ever forget me Dexter... you're my best friend and... I love you," her grip never loosened around Dexter's body. She sobbed into his chest, wiping the tears away before nuzzling him lightly.

"I... I could never forget you Lacey... and I-I promise to visit," He was taken aback by those 3 words, the one that made you feel so good, but unable to speak when they were first spoken, but he never let go. One arm draped over her body, whilst the other gently stroked her paw. "I love you too Lacey."

Lacey looked up at Dexter's emerald eyes, entranced by their beauty. She had known him for nearly 4 years, but it wasn't until that moment that she noticed how beautiful they were.

The wolf stared back at her, a sea of loneliness enveloped in her eyes. At that moment he was overwhelmed with sadness, but he couldn't cry... not when he had to be strong for her. "Promise me Lace, to meet me here... every Thursday."

"I promise... just don't ever miss one..." A single tear rolled down Lacey's face, and just as she opened her eyes, a black paw reached forward, wiping away the pain. She blinked, her body starting to be controlled by her heart as she leaned up towards her love, her best friend... Dexter. The two's lips touched, a fire burning inside of them, both of their hearts beating rapidly. And just as the first murr escaped her lips, the moment disappeared. Just as quickly as they had started, it was over... he-he was gone.
