Both Corbyn and Miles were very lonely, though both were very popular in high school. Corbyn did know a lot of people who always wanted to study with him, since he usually had top grades, but Corbyn wouldn't call them friends. All they really wanted was to get answers for upcoming tests off of him- alternatively, they would just try to cheat off him. In contrast, Miles was considered the 'perfect guy'- he always had top grades, and all the girls liked him. However, they only liked him because of his wealth- he came from old money, and he knew that their attraction was fake. Both of them would feign an air of cool disinterest whenever someone wanted to get near them, even the teachers.

~~~
One day....
"Finally, the final class has ended," Corbyn thought as he went to his locker and put his notebooks away. He started to walk home, glad that the school day was finally over and that the weekend was now starting. Once he finally got home, he saw a note waiting for him. It read that Corbyn's parents were busy again, and told him to make sure to cook himself something when he got hungry.
Muttering to himself, Corbyn went to his room, turned on his laptop, and logged on to his favorite chatroom. The only place he could be himself.
<i>Corbyn-Prower has entered the chat.
Corbyn-Prower: hello? NE1 there?</i>
A soft chime signalled someone else entering the chat. To his surprise and delight, Corbyn found that it was Miles Luciano, a friend of his whom he'd met on the Internet.
<i>Miles-Luciano has entered the chat.
Miles-Luciano: Howdy, Corbyn. How was your day?
Corbyn-Prower: it was the same as every day- boring and others trying to pay me to show them my test sheet. Yours?
Miles-Luciano: Gah, I feel for you. Today... well... does constant sexual harrassment count as 'having a bad day'?
Corbyn-Prower: well that doesn't sound too good but at least we still have each other to talk to for the weekend now- I'm so glad it's finally here.
Miles-Luciano: Y-yeah. Uh, say.... y-you're going to PokeCon soon, right?</i>
It was no secret that both Miles and Corbyn liked Pokemon. There was going to be a big Pokemon convention soon, in Quebec, and both of them were definitely attending.
<i>Corbyn-Prower: you sure know i am, hehe. and can't wait to kick your butt in person with my pokemon team on my DS and the look on your face when i do it.
Miles-Luciano: Don't count on it! MY Pokemon team's gonna kick YOUR butt!
Corbyn-Prower: i guess we'll see who will win at the con huh? can't wait to see you.
Miles-Luciano: Can't wait to see you, either. Ack, gotta go pay my respects. See you around.
Corbyn-Prower: it's nothing bro see you around later and tell them i said hi also.
Corbyn-Prower has left the chat</i>
Corbyn sighed softly as he went over to his bed and laid down upon it. He wanted to relax from the stressful day he had.
~~~

Miles shut his PC off and walked outside of his house- also known as the Luciano Estate. He stopped in front of two graves.

"Hey, Mama," he said. "Hey, Papa. Today's the anniversary of your death, right? I wanted to pay my respects."

The supposedly-perfect teenager kicked the dirt under his feet, and a tear slipped down his cheek.

Then, he let a soft smile slide onto his face. "At least that convention is soon... I'll get to meet Corbyn. Finally... a real friend. I guess it sounds a little too perfect to happen to me in all honesty... but I don't care. Mama, Papa... if you can hear me... wish me luck, okay? ...Corbyn says hi."

~~~
A few weeks later..
Corbyn looked around at the grounds of PokeCon. He saw quite a few cosplayers, people playing with trading cards, and many, MANY other things, which made Corbyn quite happy to finally be here. He also wondered where Miles was...
"Corbyn? Is it really YOU!?"
Corbyn whirled around, to see a young man his age with red-brown hair running up to him. "CORBYN!" the new guy yelled, excited.
Corbyn gave a big smile as the two locked eyes. "Miles... I can't belive it's you! It's so good to see you in real life!" he said cheerfully.
"Good to see you, too! So... nice cosplay!" Miles complimented. "I take it that you like Eevee?"
Corbyn rubbed the back of his head softly. "Uh...yeah, I kinda do. I always had this thing for them... heheheh..."
"It's cool, it's cool! Eevee is my favorite Pokemon, to be candid," Miles admitted. "So, let's see the sights before our big Pokemon battle!"
"All right! Sounds good to me, bro," Corbyn said. The two began to walk around the area, checking out all the nice Pokemon stuff on display, which made Corbyn quite happy.
~~~

After an hour or so of seeing the sights and meeting other Pokemon fans, Miles saw something out of the corner of his eye.

"Hm? What's that over there?" he asked, pointing to a little stand with some things for sale.

"I'm not sure, but let's go check it out," Corbyn said as he went over to the stand and started to look at what was being sold. He looked over to Miles. "Hey, come check this out!"

Curious, Miles joined his friend in viewing what appeared to be two pendants, each with a charm in front of some strange, three-dimensional figure. Put together, the two charms formed a little gem, colored both soft lavender and translucent white.

"You're interested in that little bauble?" the shopkeeper, a kindly-looking old woman, asked them with a knowing smile.

"Umm, yes, ma'am, if that's alright with you. They're very nice pendants, though i hope they aren't too pricey..." Corbyn sounded worried that they might cost too much. The shopkeeper kept that smile on her face.

"No need to be nervous, child. These are very special pendants, and today, I'm selling them for a dollar each. They're meant for two different people to wear. As for why I'm selling them at a Pokemon convention... you'll see if you buy them." She winked.

"Well, I guess we'll get them both then. They kinda match with each other, which is pretty neat," Corbyn said with a smile to Miles. Miles nodded back, and fished a dollar out of his pocket.

"I guess I'll buy the purple one," the American said. "That okay with you, Corbyn?"

"That's fine with me, bro. I don't mind at all," Corbyn said. Miles purchased one half, he purchased the other, and he felt that the pendants looked nice on the two of them.

"Thank you for your patronage, you two!" the shopkeeper said happily. She smiled at them. "Do enjoy yourselves at this convention!"

"Umm... thank you." Corbyn smiled as they both went off to see the rest of the area.

~~~
The two of them had a lot of fun at the convention. They met a lot of friendly people, played a lot of games together (Corbyn would usually win any Pokemon battles), and in general had a great time.
Then came the moment of their parting ways.
Corbyn sighed as he looked at Miles. "Umm.... it seems this is the time that we have to part, then... huh?"
"Yeah..." Miles mumbled. "Well, we can always talk to one another online. I had a lot of fun spending time with you in real life."
"Yeah, me too. It was so fun to finally meet you, and I hope to see you again... maybe one of us could visit the other this summer? Would that be okay?"
"Sounds good!" Miles and Corbyn exchanged high-fives and handshakes before parting.
~~~

The months passed, and school let out for the both of them.

One day in the summer, Corbyn was relaxing at home, when he got an e-mail on his laptop.

<i>From: Miles

To: Corbyn

Subject: Guess what?

Dear Corbyn,

Guess what? I've got bad news and good news. The bad news.... I've been expelled from high school, due to budget cuts. The good news.... I'm going to be visiting you tomorrow! I can't wait to see you, bro! Sincerely, Miles</i>

Corbyn got up and blinked, to check if he was reading the message right, and was very surprised. He was having a visitor, even though his house was small and completely dull in every way! He needed to get ready for his visitor's arrival!

"Mom! Dad! Help me!" he called, before remembering...

...his parents, for some completely obtuse reason, had run off, leaving him all alone. Social workers, apparently, were completely useless.

Corbyn just laid back down on the couch.

"...never mind..." he said softly to himself, looking a bit sad. But there was no time to reflect on the unfairness of life. If Miles was going to be visiting him, he was going to have to get ready by himself.

~~~
Miles walked home from the library, giving his school a hateful glance. Expelling students because of budget cuts? If that wasn't the DUMBEST thing he'd ever heard, then he wasn't Miles Luciano!
"Sheesh," he groaned. "Well, at least I get to see Corbyn again. I wonder how he's doing?"
Slowly, he entered his house and just laid on the couch, not really feeling up to entering the chatroom right now. In all honesty, he should have felt happy that he'd see his friend again, but he just couldn't.
"Oh, well... time to get to the airport. My flight leaves in thirty minutes."
~~~

The next day...

Corbyn was still in bed, being a little lazy and not wanting to get up. He wanted to sleep in, and almost forgot his friend was coming over.

However, his memory was soon jogged by his phone ringing.

"Who is it?" he asked, picking the phone up.

"It's me, Miles!" was the jovial reply.

"Oh! Hi, Miles! What is it? Having trouble finding the place..?"

"No," Miles answered. "I just thought I'd tell you that I'm on my way. I'll be there in ten minutes! I look forward to seeing you! Also... do you still have that pendant that we bought at PokeCon?"

"You know it! I'll never take that thing off for anything, heheheh! It means a lot to me," Corbyn laughed. "See you around!"

"Okay, bro!" Miles hung up. Quickly, Corbyn hurried to ready himself for the day.

~~~
Miles stood in front of Corbyn's front door, excited and nervous at the same time.
"Here goes nothing..."
He rang Corbyn's doorbell.
Corbyn heard the ring. He slowly got up, went to the door, and opened it. "Oh, hi there!"
"Hi! It's SO good to see you again!" Miles shook Corbyn's hand vigorously. "So, ready for a Pokemon battle? I've improved a lot!"
"You're ON!" Corbyn grinned deviously.
~~~

"I WON!" Miles cheered.

"Aw, shoot! You HAVE gotten better! I've gotten rusty, also, it seems. Ah, well." Corbyn shrugged. Then, an idea came to him. "Hey... you know how our pendants are supposed to connect, right?"

Miles arched an eyebrow. "Yeah. Why do you ask?"

"Uhh, well... I was wondering: maybe we should, maybe, connect them, if you want..?" Corbyn proposed.

"H'm.... sounds good to me! Let's do it!"

"Alright, then... here it goes..." Corbyn said. He took his pendant and pushed it into Miles's. This action made both of them seem to have a reaction and fully fuse into each other, to form one gem.

"Huh? Weird..." Miles inspected the gem, and tried to pull the two halves apart, to no avail. They really had become one gem.

And <i>THEN</i>, the gem began to glow.

Corbyn started to wonder what was happening now. This was really strange!

"What on Earth is going on?" both friends chorused. Suddenly, Corbyn felt an odd sensation, and noticed that his shirt went a little further down than it usually did. In addition, there was something beneath his shirt, between it and his body.

Little did he know, Miles was starting to feel similar. He didn't notice at first, but his size was starting to slowly decrease, and he felt little itchy on his chest.

"Whoa... this is really weird... why do I feel so warm all of a sudden?" Miles unbuttoned his shirt... to reveal that pale gold fur was coating his front. "AH! WHAT THE HECK!?"

As Miles looked at it, he noticed it was starting to go around his sides, and up and down his back. Eventually, it reached his shoulders and started to go down his arms. As it reached his hands, the skin on his palms and fingertips toughened into pads. His nails began to darken and grow out into small claws. Then, the fur began its descent down his bottom half also.

For Corbyn, it was going from his lower half upward. Since he was wearing shorts, he could see that his legs were coated in blue fur. His feet had become paws. As the fur passed his... <i>ahem</i>... Corbyn felt a series of PECULIAR feelings... er, down THERE. But enough about that. Soon, the blue fur had grown on his stomach, sides and back. A fluffy ruff of white fur, like a scarf, had appeared around Corbyn's neck.

"H-huh? Corbyn... this is really weird... what the heck is happening?!" Miles noticed that his voice, amazingly, sounded higher in pitch, like a kid's voice. "Yipe!"

As the fur reached Miles's feet, they started to grow out into footpaws. Also, they changed in a similar manner to his hands- they grew pads, and his nails became claws. Miles's shirt and pants started to look baggy on him, and he felt a pressure on his tailbone. It started to grow out, and became wide, covered in the same fur that was on the rest of him. He noted that the tip of the... the <i>TAIL</i> was white, much like the ruff of fur around his neck identical to Corbyn's.

Soon, Corbyn had a tail also, with the same white tip. Suddenly, he recognized the coloration patterns of his new fur and tail.

"Wait a minute... This fur, this tail.... they look like an Eevee's!" he squeaked, his voice also higher.

Then, the fur started to reach up their necks and started to cover their faces in the fur. Their ears got covered also, beginning to point out, relocating to the tops of their heads, and lengthening. Then, their noses turned dark and wet, becoming canine. Corbyn whimpered a bit as his jaw started to push out into a short muzzle. His teeth became slightly sharper, as did Miles's.

Their changes were complete. Both Corbyn and Miles were Eevees. However, there were a few noticable differences from them and the average Eevee. First, both teenagers retained a mostly-human body shape, as though they were halfway between being fully human and fully Eevee. Second, their fur colors were odd- instead of having brown fur, Corbyn had fur of rich, deep blue, while Miles had fur that was soft, pale gold.

"Whoa... what happened...?" Miles asked.

Corbyn didn't know how to exactly explain it, but their clothes started to glow, just like their pendants had. Slowly, their clothes changed, growing smaller, until they were tailored to fit the new Eevees. In addition, they had changed style, now looking like clothing that a child would wear.

"Umm... well, that was odd... but I guess it's better then having no clothes on, huh?" Corbyn said with a slight giggle. He was feeling very... kiddish, for lack of a better term.

"Well... I'm just glad nothing dangerous happened to either of us, brother..." Miles said. Then, he froze. "Huh? Wh-what did I just call you?"

"Umm... I think you just called me 'brother'... I think..." Corbyn said. He blinked softly at Miles, wondering about what was happening.

"Okay... uh... question. How old are you, exactly? I forgot."

"Uh... I think I'm seven... but I'm not too sure yet..." Corbyn said as he rubbed his head. His expression gradually cleared up. "No... wait, I know now... Of COURSE I'm seven! But wait, wasn't I fifteen just yesterday? Ugh, this is confusing... how old are YOU, Miles?"

"I'm seven, too... no, wait, I was fifteen yesterday, also... oh my gosh, this is weird!!!" Miles looked to be on the verge of having a panic attack.

However, they noticed an envelope appear in a flash of light on the kitchen countertop.

"What's it say? What's it say?" Corbyn demanded.

"Hm.. let me see... <i>Dear Corbyn & Miles,

"I know you two might be really confused about what is going on, but try not to worry about it. I'll try and explain it as best I can. The two gems that you purchased were two shards of an artifact called the Destiny Gem. The way it workedwas simple: when you two put the two pieces together, you made it grant your two true desires, the first of which was to become family with each other. The second was a desire the two of you shared, to experience being an Eevee. Don't worry about what happened, boys, and enjoy your new lives. Oh, and before I forget... soon, you two will have one more BIG surprise.

"Sincerely, your guardian...</i>"

Miles and Corbyn stared at one another, both stunned beyond belief.

"Wh-whoa... this is unbelievable!" Miles blurted out.

"Uh-huh... this really is quite unbelieveable, to be honest...." Corbyn said to Miles. Then the front door creaked open, as two other part-human, part-Pokemon beings (a male Flareon and a female Espeon) entered the house. These two were adults, and when Miles looked at them, they bore a stunning resemblance to...

"Wh-wh-wha... Mama...? Papa...?" he gasped. "Is it..."

"Yes, son. What's the matter? Are you feeling alright?" Miles's mother said, looking at Miles and hoping he was okay.

"Y-yeah... I'm fine, but.... you and Papa are supposed to be dead, aren't you..?"

"Hmm? Where did you get that crazy idea, son?" Miles's dad asked. Corbyn started to walk over to them.

"H-hello," he introduced shyly. "Uh... you're Miles's parents, right?"

"You too, honey... you are our son, too. Did you two bump your heads on something, or what..?" Miles's mom said to Corbyn, sounding a little concerned.

"Well... that's not how I remember it..."

The two of them explained the whole situation to Miles's Pokemon parents, both of them completely baffled.

"H'mm! It seems you two had quite an adventure then, haven't you two?" Mom said to the both of them with a smile.

"I... I guess so... uh... so, wh-what now..?" Miles asked.

"Well... for now, I think it's time you two got into your pajamas and headed to bed. It's starting to get late," Dad said.

"Uh... okay...." To Miles, Corbyn whispered "Wasn't it eight-thirty in the morning when you got here?" Miles replied with a shrug.

~~~
Corbyn and Miles were a bit squeamish about having to share the same bed now. Corbyn's house had changed somewhat drastically, having now become something like a combination between his house and Miles's. It was as though the two of them were in another world.
"Um... okay, then..." Corbyn said. His bedroom had adjusted to being more... child-oriented than before, with a small Pokemon theme here and there. His laptop was still around, though, and so was Miles's PC, somehow. "H'mm...umm.."
Corbyn opened a drawer and started to get dressed into his pajamas. Soon, he was ready for bed, and he crawled into bed first.
"I'm first!" he said childishly. Strangely, he stuck his his tongue out at Miles. Miles said nothing, but gave his new brother a bewildered glance as he changed and tucked himself him.
"Um... so... well, this MIGHT sound awkward, but, uh... since we're brothers now, uh.... d-d-do you wanna share a hug with me?" Miles asked, blushing.
Corbyn gave a soft giggle. "What's the matter? Scared of Darkrai coming in from the night and taking you away?" he taunted. He waved his hands above Miles and began making ghostly noises.
"N-no!" Miles said hotly. "I j-just wanna hug you, Corbyn... sheesh!"
"Hehe... I know, bro," Corbyn said as he started to hug Miles close. "That better?"
"Yeah, that's better..." Miles let out a soft sigh. "Wow... it feels so good to hug you, b-b-brother..."
"Yeah. It feels good to hug you as well, bro." Corbyn smiled and nuzzled the gold Eevee softly.
"I... I love you, Corbyn."
"I love you, too, Miles," Corbyn said softly to his brother. He started to yawn, and the two slowly fell asleep.
~~~

Tomorrow morning, the two woke up with smiles on their faces.

"Morning, brother!" Miles greeted happily.

"Morning, bro! It's already morning, huh? I didn't notice. Heheh, how silly of me!" Corbyn chuckled. He hugged Miles.

"It's okay, Corbyn! So... what do you want to do today?"

"I really don't know, bro, heheh! We could go play around outside, or we could play some video games..." Corbyn smiled. "Anything's cool, as long as it's with you!"

"Cool!"
