#3 of DSIU: Dragon Soldier Infantry Unit

Finally, here is Chapter two in my story series DSIU. I have finished Chapter Three but I still need to do my final revisions. I will be posting the revised versions of the prologue and chapter one here momentarily. Hope you all enjoy it as much as i do writing this story.

As Fraolith hurriedly walked through the halls toward the gathering hall, he continued to think about the General he ran into. He was confused as to why and how he ran into the other guardian, his head held higher this time to make sure he didn't run into anyone else. He suddenly heard the sounds of multiple voices ahead, so knowingly he quickly dismissed the event as a pure happenstance and continued to the gathering chambers. He arrived with only three minutes to spare, taking his seat next to his closest friend, Aedial Sithoranda. He looked over at the blue beside him, and grinned as he noticed the coy grin that was forming on his muzzle.

"Woke up late again I see," Aedial chuckled and shook his head at his friend. The tall, built blue dragon had been close friends with Fraolith ever since they met at the age of fifteen in a chemistry class. Landing a playful jab to Fraolith's ribs, Aedial jested, "Oh my, how will you ever be up in time for basic training? It seems the DSIU will need to add extra volume to their reverie."

Fraolith grinned at his friends' remark, combatting his friend's sarcastic humor with some of his own. "Oh shut up, Aedial! I have been doing better on the waking up on time. I made five out of seven days this week!" He punched his friend lightly on the arm after his return statement.

Aedial was about 6' 10", broad shouldered and very muscular. His scales were a deep sapphire blue and had emerald tiger stripes patterned all along his back and sides that ended on his shoulders and thighs which tapered to a curved point. His chest scales and wings were a shiny golden color, a strong contrast to the blue and green shades of the other scales all over his body. He had a pair of curled white horns that spiked from each brow, and had deep sea blue eyes.

The pair of dragons clasped hands, Fraolith smiling at his friend as they stared out over the assembled parents and guardians of all the dragon blood that lived in the DSIU Army School. The lights dimmed slightly two or three times before they went dark as the spotlights shone on the graduating class of 2013. Suddenly the traditional "Pomp and Circumstance" played over the speakers, signaling the group to stand as the Dean and a few others walked down the aisles and sat down at a table near the front of the stage. Near the end of the line was the Draco Ki General Fraolith had run into in the halls. As the music ended, the Dean stood and walked to the podium, tapping the microphone testing its volume, before nodding at the class gesturing with a paw stating, "You may be seated."

Fraolith nudged his friend as they sat, whispering to him hoping to tell Aedial before he had to give his speech. "That green on the end there, I ran into him in the halls." Fraolith looked over at Aedial to see him tilt his head.

The Dean began his speech so Fraolith was made to place the subject on hold until the end of the his speech when he would have thirty minutes to talk with his friend. "We all are gathered here today to watch our most recent graduating class," He gestured to the group as he smiled and looked back at them. "A very fine bunch of Dragon Bloods that have an aptitude for learning, honor, and integrity, I am proud to have the Dracion of Class 2013 read a speech for all of you. His name is Fraolith Sintorna, and his story is long and hard. He has come a long way and should be an inspiration to all dragon bloods, new and old."

Fraolith smiled a bit as he stood, a little nervous at his speech he prepared, hoping it wasn't too corny or stupid or even too depressing. He was good at creative writing, his side hobby at night, but not speeches. The thundering applause echoed through the gathering hall as he walked towards the podium to shake the Deans hand. Dean Dracira was a dark black dragon, his deep blood red eyes seeming menacing until you met the person behind them. His chest was the same red of his eyes, and he had graceful wings that seemed to be too large for his body, but also just the right length for flight. The membranes were striped red and black and at 7' 10", he towered over the students and watched them all with the care a father would give to his children.

Smiling at the Dean as he reached the podium, he firmly shook his hand as the applause died down. He stepped towards the microphone as the lights dimmed to compensate for his runiton scales. He cleared his throat and began his speech.

"Thank you Dean Dracira and thank you to the one who is working the lights, Shamira Drakin, to which I am extremely thankful you remembered to dim the lights. Otherwise half the gathering hall would have most likely ended up blind by now." This elicited a few chuckles from the crowd as he waved to the light booth at the Purple dragoness that stood there. "I would like to say that this is my first real speech ever, and I really didn't prepare one. More so I wanted to tell you about my life after my Dragon blood awakening." The room went silent as they listened intently to Fraolith, seeming to hang onto his every word.

Looking back at the class he smiled at them and shook his head, a chuckle escaping his maw before he continued, "Now don't you all think that it is all bad, the first two years were lonely, working dead end jobs and trying to survive in a world where we are more common than most people come to realize. After my biological parents dismissed me as an evil thing that had happened to a perfect child, 'monster' was my most favorite of the demeaning words. Freak and devil spawn were some others. Life can be rough, but with perseverance and a strong heart, you can overcome anything it throws at you."

He took the time to regain his composure, the heat of the room a little too warm for Fraolith's tastes. After a few looks around the stage, he smiled wide showing a maw full of sharp teeth and gestured to Aedial and jested with the class, "When I stumbled onto this place at fifteen, I thought you all were a bunch of freaks of nature, having parents that I didn't have, or I would ever know. I wasn't always seen as the most popular kid in class either, and I probably could pick out a couple of you that are jealous that it's not them standing here giving the speech. However a few of you were good friends of mine, and got me a place with David and Mirvanda. Aedial here was one of my closest friends, a fellow brother to me, and hopefully my bunkmate in the DSIU. I would like to hear a round of applause for him, because if he hadn't fallen into my life, I probably would have failed in most of my schooling."

The crowd erupted into applause as he nodded to his friend, before looking out to the light booth and pointed at Shamira. With a grin he gestured to her, "And the only other real close friend I had is Shamira Drakin, the amethyst 'ness that is running the light booth. How 'bout turning the lights up a tiny bit. I am almost done here, so you can get ready for the next speaker. Oh, and remember to turn off the automatic hall sweeper sometimes too, I trip over it all the time." He winked at her and smiled, nodding as he began to unfold his wings.

As Shamira giggled in the booth, she slid one of the sliders up about three levels, and gave her friend the thumbs up. At that point he fanned his wings as the lights came up, beating them slowly and making his perfect sunrise appear all over the walls and ceilings. "Before I leave the podium, I want to give you all a gift. It's my perfect sunrise, and I hope it may serve as an inspiration to live by what I have come to know; that even in the darkest of days, the sunrise still exists, and its beauty can help you find the way that is true to you. It is my perfect sunrise that gets me through the day and puts me to sleep, and gives me the inspiration to carry on, no matter the hardships. I wish you all the best, oh and to Asto, the Draco Ki General over there on the corner..." He paused as he stood erect, saluting him with uncanny precision, before saying the DSIU salutary draconic phrase, "Hitra nendar si vetha dir."

Asto nodded and stood and responded without fail, again taken a bit by surprise by Fraolith's actions, "Dira sentar net'da si. Nir va firenda ti endir ke'en"

Fraolith walked back to the microphone and simply finished with, "Thank you, and blessed be." The audience cheered at his speech and the whole class stood and applauded, even the ones that were normally rude to him. Fraolith guessed they saw that they didn't really have it as rough as they thought they did. Returning to his seat, the ceremony continued as the Dean returned to the microphone, and called on the next member of class to give a speech, which Fraolith wasn't too interested in at the moment. As Rasitan Terancir stepped down and shook the Dean's hand, Fraolith tapped his friend on the shoulder. He nodded that he was going to resume his earlier conversation that had been cut short by his speech, as they would now have the opportunity to do so for the next thirty minutes.
