Chapter Fifteen.

Reunion in Lostlorn

Rika woke to movement around the bushes near camp; Shadow was on watch duty, but he hadn't seemed to notice the movement yet. When she scanned the area with her aura, she was stunned to find that a pack of mightyena was closing in around them in preparation for an attack.

Scanning their auras, she immediately figured out why they were doing this and felt grim from what she discovered. They were starving; none of them had caught a descent meal in weeks and they were now willing to go to any length to sate their needs. Alarmed, Rika quickly used her aura to wake the others and keep them as silent and unmoving as possible so as to not inform the mightyena that they knew they were there. Though once Shadow knew, he couldn't hide the shift of the glow of his blue rings and Rika feared even that might set the wild wolves off.

Evin wasn't sure how useful he could be in this situation at the moment because his mind still felt stretched and fatigued, while his body felt like fragile glass. Rika also figured he wasn't going to be much use in this case, so she prepared herself for a relentless battle. Evin hoped his next idea would work as he refused to think he was useless at the moment and tried to remove Reshiram's pokeball from his belt without making any noise.

But as he half expected to happen, his arm made horrible pops as he grabbed the ball and the forest went dead silent. Evin momentarily hesitated, but then released the dragon from her ball. She was already informed of what was going on, so she took a defensive stance over the tent, while Dawn quickly got to her feet along with Rika and joined Reshiram outside. Dawn summoned all her pokemon at once aside from the baby oshawott she had and did her best to tell them what was happening.

Evin added to this by releasing Victini and Zora as well from his place in the tent. They were on guard now and ready for an attack from all sides, but for some reason the suspected attack never came. Rika checked again with her aura and it turned out that the site of Reshiram had done a good job at frightening them back and regrouping a good distance away, but they still hadn't given up.

Dawn gave Evin a breakfast bar and some water to wash it down, and then gave him two pills from the plastic baggy they got from the nurse so he could get up and moving without destroying himself. The pills weren't going to work right away, so Evin just forced himself to stand anyway and slowly walked outside, while the others kept watch for the wolf pack.

Sure enough, just after Evin exited the tent, the mightyena pack returned and came charging out of the bushes and trees in a crescent formation. Reshiram gave a long scary roar at them, and Dawn saw a few of the mightyena flinch in fear. As Rika had described, the entire pack looked starved, weak, and desperate, but none of them were willing to depart this life so easily from mere starvation. Reshiram unleashed a fusion flare into their numbers, knocking four flying and crashing into trees.

Three jumped at Reshiram after that, while the rest of the pack began battling the other pokemon and trying to get hold of one of the humans. Evin may not have been able to move or physically attack at the moment, but he could still make aura shields to defend himself and Dawn when needed.

Evin's and Dawn's team may have been out numbered, but the mightyena pack was definitely out matched from their weakened state. One by one the mightyena fell, either from being knocked unconscious or from being too wounded to continue. After almost fifteen minutes of fighting the leader of the pack fell along with his comrades.

Everyone was irritably on edge for a few minutes after that, being that they were not sure if that was the last of them, but with another quick check with her aura, Rika confirmed they had all been defeated. In truth they all took pity on the mightyena for being so hungry that they would resort to such measures just for a meal.

So Evin decided to call the professor and ask what they should do. The call went through on the pokenave and when the professor answered she didn't look especially happy about being woken up out of bed just when she was getting some nice sleep. Then she looked all the more putout when Evin described what had just happened.

Juniper looked lost in thought for a few minutes, but then she finally said, "I'll set the pokemon capture system to instant transport for both of you. Do you both have enough pokeballs to catch them all?"

Both Dawn and Evin shuffled through their packs and Evin said, "Just barely, its going to take every last ball we have minuses the master ball you gave me." The professor then said, "Good, every pokemon you capture right now will be brought here, and I will see to it they get proper meals and treatment.

Something very strange is happening around that forest for there to be an entire pack starving like this. Normally a pack like what you both just described would move to another area if food was scars or unavailable. So I can only wonder what would keep them from moving on for them to risk starving to death. You have my permission to catch them all now, please proceed and I will set the system back to normal once you're done. Juniper out."

The pokenav on Evin's arm went blank, and he said to the pokemon, "Ok the professor wants us to catch the entire pack of mightyena, so bring them here and after we are done we can press on." So with that the pokemon began dragging the unconscious and wounded wolves into the clearing and both Evin and Dawn took turns throwing pokeballs.

Luckily none of the mightena could put up much of a fight once inside the ball that hit them, because if any had broken loose Dawn and Evin just simply wouldn't have been able to capture them. As each was captured, each ball that now contained a pokemon after they quit moving, lit up like a light and disappeared.

Evin was profoundly interested at how that was achieved as he watched each one vanish with a flash of light. But with a few minutes to think about it he decided that the science behind that tech would only give him a headache since there was no real way for him to understand it. One by one each ball disappeared and soon the entire pack had been caught.

After the last one was caught, the professor called back and said, "You were right, they are virtually starved to death. I will do my best to nurse them back to health with the help of the pokemon center nurses. You both take care now. And stay out of trouble!"

Evin was a slight bit miffed as he grumbled, "Trouble always comes looking for me." Dawn suppressed a giggle and they both returned their pokemon to their balls. After packing camp, Dawn and Rika both helped Evin walk for a while longer before the medicine kicked in, and once it did, he was finally able to walk somewhat ok on his own.

Getting back to Zoroark's cave was taking longer than Evin thought it should have, but being that he was now in worse condition then when he left, he decided that maybe it was just him. Before long they found the place where Rika had first woken in Evin's arms. The place they had officially first met. Evin was delighted to recount the story to Dawn as they rested there, and Rika just blushed in embarrassment from knowing that it was true that she had at one time drooled on him like that.

After a while the small break was over and the caravan continued for many more hours until they were getting close to the heart of Lostlorn Forest. Just as night was threatening to plunge them into darkness, they finally saw what they were looking for, the illusionary trailer that was Zoroark's home.

Evin decided he would be the one to greet her and see if she recognized him. He went up to the door and knocked and as he expected, Zoroark in the shape of the woman she liked to look like answered the door and gave him a blank stare.

Evin waved and said, "Hi again." For a moment the woman looked confused, but then as she examined his face and smell she transformed back to her original form and Evin heard her telepathically say "IT'S YOU!" Then she heard Dawn giggle a little bit, and for a moment Zoroark looked afraid, like she was about the run away, but Evin calmed her down and said, "We just dropped by for a visit because Rika wanted to thank you."

Zoroark then looked a little bewildered and asked, "Who is Rika? And really there is no need to thank me for what I did." Just then Rika stepped forward from behind Dawn and Zoroark said, "You were the riolu I treated when I found you both, right?" Rika nodded and said with her own aura telepathy, "Yes, you saved my life. I had to come here and thank you in person." Rika bowed and continued, "Thank you for everything you did for us."

Zoroark cautiously nodded her head, and Zoroark then said to everyone, "So now what? Are you just going to leave then? If you haven't noticed, being around humans makes me nervous, and I'm not inclined to feeding company either."

Evin then said, "We could leave if that's what you really want, but frankly I'd rather leave in a day or two after I've recovered." Zoroark looked at him suspiciously and said, "Recovered; from what? You don't look hurt." Evin then enlightened her on what has been going on outside the forest. After the story was told she agreed to let them stay a while as long as they didn't bother her for food.

With that decided, Evin and his group pitched camp outside the trailer, and after everything was set they let all of their pokemon out of their balls. Zoroark was amazed and interested to see both another Zoroark and Reshiram in Evin's group. Though to her amusement, the other Zoroark was a different color than normal for their kind and was relatively young and still getting used to her new body. She and Zora began talking for a while and before the night was done the two looked like they were becoming friends.

Evin and the others settled in to go to sleep, while Shadow was on watch duty again. Zoroark showed interest in Shadow as a fellow dark fox pokemon male, but she ended up taking more interest in Zora and took her into the forest with her to continue talking as she foraged and hunted. Zora didn't fit in the tent so well anymore due to her size now, so when Evin woke the next morning he found her sleeping at the entrance.

He didn't see Zoroark anywhere, but after a moment he knew she was in her cave, because even though his psychic powers couldn't detect her, her aura still gave off the same kind of presents that Shadow's and Zora's did. This was the third day after his run in with Team Rocket at the stadium, yet he was still stiff as a board and very sore. But at least his mind didn't feel so stretched today as he sat down outside the tent and thought over his situation for a few moments. He found his mind was much clearer today, as it didn't give him a headache when he tried to focus his concentration.

Zoroark had already dropped the illusion that had surrounded her cave last night, so once the camp began to wake up, any who looked at where the trailer used to be could see the hole in the rock face that was the dark pokemon's home. Zoroark gave Evin and Zora a groggy growl of a good morning in her native tongue as she left her cave. Zora greeted her back and they all enjoy breakfast together as Dawn gave both Zoroarks some of the pokemon food they had for Zora. Zora and Zoroark talked throughout the meal and soon left the camp to do other things together.

From what Evin gathered from the poketalk and their auras, it sounded to him like Zoroark had volunteered to help Zora master her mass illusion skills. Evin was glad that she was able to find a friend here, because after evolving and not being able to sleep inside the tent because she was too big, she had been sad and was feeling a little left out.

Seeing her cheerful again made him able to relax in peace, as he knew it would be a while before he could buy a bigger tent. Rika went off into the forest to hone her own skills with aura, while Shadow and Cilia went off to practice their own combo moves. This left the rest of the other pokemon to relax in comfort as the day went by.

Throughout the day though Dawn did rouse Piplup and Herdier a few times to practice contest moves when she wasn't tending to the camp. Since the day was relatively uneventful, the day passed slowly as Evin had a hard time keeping himself from fidgeting after being constantly on the move since getting to this world. He did do some easy stretches now and then, but he mainly concentrated on honing his own aura and mental abilities since his body didn't really want to even get up.

It was late afternoon by the time Cilia and Shadow returned, and early evening before Zora and Zoroark also made their way into the camp. Though when they entered the camp, Evin was alarmed to see that both looked like they had been in a few fights as their fur was all ruffled and they looked like they had scrapes and cuts.

They both smiled at his concern, but told him that they had only been sparing really hard. They seemed like best friends now as they joined the others around the campfire. At first Evin had been hesitant about healing them when he first saw their cuts and scrapes, because he still wasn't sure what his body would do if he used up a lot of his energy just then. But even then he decided to try, and while it did leave him real tired from healing them both, it hadn't seemed to bother his finicky muscles to do so.

Zora amused herself by trying to play with Evin's mind with illusions, but Evin knew better after the first prank because of his sensing abilities and knowing when an illusion was messing with his head. Once it became clear to Zora that Evin was for the most part immune to these pranks, she started in on Dawn, whom by all rights was not amused by what she saw.

Zoroark eventually chided Zora for misusing her ability and instead put her to work by having Zora make her cave look like the trailer that had once been there. Dawn and Evin both were fascinated as they watched the illusions take form every time Zora ended up having to try again from having missed some of the details. Evin could tell just from Zora's face that it was taking some considerable concentration just to affect so much area, but she kept it up until she finally got it right.

Rika finally joined them at camp when it was about time for bed, and Evin could sense something strange was wrong with her. She was feeling restless and uncomfortable allover, but wasn't sure why she was feeling that way. Though everyone else except Zoroark had the sneaking suspicion they knew why after she told them.

When everyone went to bed later that night, Evin let Rika lay in his arms while he was lying propped up on all the blankets he had, and while she laid in his arms he tried to draw off some of her discomfort as they waited for the event to happen. Dawn lay at the other side of the tent eagerly awaiting the moment with her thoughts moving a thousand miles an hour, while Cilia kept watch outside.

It was just after midnight when Rika suddenly groaned as she tensed up while Evin held on to her paws. Laying back as far as she could with Evin behind her, she opened her legs wide and just as quick as the daycare man had once said, out popped an egg quick and almost painlessly. Though the feeling to Rika as the object passed through her vagina opening was quite unpleasant. After clearing her vagina and coming to rest on the towel below Rika, the oval object began to harden as it expanded a bit and took its proper shape, and soon it was roughly the size and shape of a football.

It took a little while for Rika's discomfort passed as her passage closed up, but once she felt her insides finally fully retract, most of her discomforts finally abated. The egg was quite a bit bigger than Aqua's had been, and had different colors and designs as the three of them studied it a little.

Evin finally released Rika's paws and let her touch the warm smooth surface of the still hardening shell of her offspring and then Dawn even gave her a hug. As Dawn released her from the short embrace, she then smiled as she said, "You're going to be a mommy soon!" That was a thought that Rika seriously liked as she relaxed in Evin's arms again while now holding her egg. After Cilia finally got her chance to see Rika's new egg, the excitement died down and the atmosphere became quiet as they all finally fell asleep.

Elsewhere the next morning, after May had reunited with Ash in Black City the previous day, she and him were getting ready to continue on their quest to investigate the problems in nearby cities. Though Ash ended up asking her a lot about what happened, because like a lot of people in the world, he too had been watching the contest and had seen what happened there and had seen Dawn there as well.

May told him a lot about what she knew, but kept to herself on the stuff she wasn't sure she was allowed to tell him. Pikachu just gave a sound of hatred about hearing about what Team Rocket had been trying to do, while Ash said, "Things are getting a lot worse if those crooks have the guts to attack a city in broad day light. This Evin guy you were talking about may have done us a big favor. From the video feed we saw, it looks like he might have just eliminated the entire sector in this region."

May nodded and said, "And the ones that weren't killed had their memories wiped so they could return to their previous lives. Though it seems like the police are still going to keep watching those people closely. Evin's really a nice guy, you would both be pals if you ever met."

Ash then said, "Yeah, you might be right. Then again we might just rub each other the wrong way... Well enough of that, let's get going; I heard that Team Plasma is stirring up more trouble near here. I also hope your ready to visit your home again, I got word just yesterday that both teams are causing more trouble in Hoenn now." May was all over his case after that about why he didn't mention this sooner, and so they got moving within the hour after restocking their supplies.

At that same time back in Lostlorn Forest, when Rika emerged from the tent with her new egg in her paws, Zoroark asked, "Where did that come from?" Rika blushed and said, "It's mine." Zoroark was in awe and then said, "How, who?" Rika's blush intensified and she said, "I kind of jumped on Evin when I came into heat almost a month ago now."

Zoroark was frozen in thought for a moment, then about fell over laughing. When Evin came out of the tent, she only laughed harder until she really did fall down. Evin was blatantly clueless as to what was going on and asked, "What's so funny all of a sudden?" But Rika was taking Zoroark's humor badly and growled as she shoved passed Evin in the opposite direction of the sound of mirth.

Evin's look could be described as a question marks over his head at that point, and Dawn likewise asked what was going on, but all Evin could do was shrug, as Zoroark continued to convulse with laughter. Rika had at this point disappeared into the woods with the egg she was carrying, and Evin resolved to ask her later what all the laughing was really about.

Zoroark's laughter finally subsided after a while, and she once again took Zora with her to do their own thing and left Evin and the others to spend the day however they wished. Reshiram had decided that she wanted some exorcise and went flying around for the day. Shadow and Cilia took to snoozing on and off between nipping affectionately at each other's ears, while Dawn played with her new little Oshawott.

Today Evin was feeling much better even though his body was still a bit sore, this would be the last day of rest he need before they continued their journey, so he once again started leisurely honing his mental and aura skills as he tried to understand how to use them better. Without a teacher, this training was always a rough process of trial and error; so he only discovered how to do new things either by accident or by the way something felt, which was pretty much the same as walking blindly in the dark.

After the experience of the entity taking control of his body, Evin wondered if he could really do all of those things at will, if he could only learned how. But knowing that his powers were dangerous, he believed that too many things could go wrong if he began randomly experimenting.

In the end he stuck with the simpler stuff for now, using his psychic abilities to throw rocks, squeeze them until they crumbled, and searching through the memories of the wild pokemon in the area. He wanted to try the more elaborate things, but with his body still recovering he didn't dare push himself just yet.

By the end of the day everyone was tired of practicing, playing, or whatever else they had chosen to do, and everyone returned to the camp site late that evening. Once Zora and Zoroark entered the camp, Evin sighed, as he once again had to heal them of their sparing wounds. Rika held her egg in her arms and still seemed to be holding some kind of grudge towards Zoroark.

While Zoroark, every time she imagined Evin being raped by Rika, couldn't resist the random chuckle here and there, which only caused Rika to boil more. Eventually Rika couldn't take it any longer and yelled with both her telepathy and her growling voice for Zoroark to quit laughing about how she mated with Evin.

Zoroark half laughed again in a scoffing tone as she replied, "So what are you going to do about it?" At first Rika was astonished she even said that. Then she became off the wall furious as she realized it was a challenge.

Evin finally began to grasp what it was all about and started to try to step in and said, "OK that's enough you two we don't nee--" but he was cut off before he could finish as Zoroark said, "Silence you, this is a pokemon thing, you mind your own business this time!"

Evin didn't know how to take this; Rika obviously took it bad as her deadlock aura sensors rose up. Dawn now tried to restrain Rika as well, but all she got was pushed away after having an egg put into her arms. A moment later an aura sphere flew over Evin's head as he ducked because he had been standing between the two female pokemon. The sphere was only a warning shot, as it hadn't been locked onto anything, and just flew into the forest hitting trees.

Evin and the other pokemon dived out of the way as another now flew after Zoroark this time locked onto her aura. Zoroark disappeared into an illusion of such magnitude that the sphere didn't know what to hit, as Zoroark's aura seemed to now be spread everywhere. Evin knew that Rika hand more than one advantage in this fight from being both a fighting and steel type, and knew dark type moves would be almost none effective on her.

But at the same time Zoroark was experienced and fast; this by far was not the reunion he had planned. A fight was the last thing he had even expected or wanted after everything that's happened. But now Rika was going all out as she tried to pierce Zoroark's illusions with her aura so she could nail the bitch that had insulted her pride.

Evin was good at seeing through illusions like with Zora, but Zoroark's were on another level entirely right now as she kept Rika running around beating the crap out of anything she thought resembled the dark type. Her rage wavered a few times, but was always reinstated by Zoroark when she would either start laughing again or make an illusion of her making a certain face at Rika.

Eventually Evin called out, "What is the point of this!" and then within his own mind so the others didn't hear, Evin heard two words form Zoroark, "Self-control." Then it occurred to him that Zoroark was trying to teach Rika a valuable lesson, to control her emotions. The fight continued much longer and even though he knew what Zoroark was doing, he half believed she may have pushed Rika a bit too far as aura spheres still few in all directions.

Eventually a sphere was shot by accident at Dawn who was also still holding Rika's egg. This by far was not part of Zoroark's plan, and Evin just barely made it in time to block the sphere with an aura shield and deflected the blue ball strait up.

Evin groaned as he picked himself up, and for a moment he didn't know what to expect, but right then he noticed, all was silent. Rika was horrified that she had almost shot Dawn along with her own egg, and collapsed in tears. Zoroark dropped all the illusions in the area and then cautiously helped her back up and said, "Your emotions are your weak point. You need to work harder to keep your emotions in line, less they rule your judgment and hurt those who are dear to you... Go, meditate about this until morning, I guarantee you'll feel better by then."

Rika was still in a bit of shock, but still managed to leave the clearing on her own. As Rika left, Evin asked Zoroark, "What did you tell her?" and Zoroark said, "I told her to go think on this experience until morning. By then she should feel much better and have possibly digested what I meant for her to gain from this conflict."

Evin wasn't quite sure what that entirely meant, but after that last part, he felt a little begrudged towards her for causing such a close call. Even though the egg was a pokemon, it was still his and Rika's, and that was way too close for comfort. The thought now occurred to Evin as he now knew what his father must have felt like when he had been in danger before.

The experience also left him sore and shaky once again as his adrenalin finally stopped, so he figured he would probably be pretty sore again in the morning because of it. After that last outburst, he knew without a doubt it was definitely time to move on.
