#6 of Problems in Paradise

After the fur had settled the entire pack looked over their two alphas and nobody had any idea what to say or do. The two prime males had settled into their respective corners panting while licking over their individual wounds. Ezekiel grunted as he admitted to himself that the new alpha wasn't as worthless as he appeared if the scars he sported were any indication. He just might make a good alpha, not better than himself of course but...

While Kendric grunted from his forced transformation and his own hurts. Licking his paws was not something the once human mage would have ever suspected himself of doing but nonetheless here he was in his living room licking his paw. It was so surreal that it was sad really.

'This is what I get for sticking his nose where it didn't belong and helping these mutts.' Ken sulked. Glaring at the other male over by the patio window Kendric childishly stuck out his tongue and blew a raspberry as best he could in his canine form.

Ezekiel grunted and smirked at the other canine before lifting his leg and...

"Ezekiel, show some manners! Your older than him anyway so start acting like it!" Isaiah yelled at his mate as he got between their pointless spat before someone really got hurt.

The former alpha ducked his head and curled his tail under himself at his mate's reprimand but turned his head to look out the window in indignation. The former beta sighed as he felt a headache coming on but kept a cheerful smile on his muzzle as he turned to see the rapidly healing Kendric.

"Are you alright Ken?"

"Yeah fine. If that idiot didn't take things so personal I'd be better." Ezekiel snarled as his hackles rose and his fangs bared in righteous anger.

"While Ezekiel's actions were juvenile they weren't without merit. You did touch a sore spot for him as well as myself with your comment." Ken felt his smile falter when he quit glaring at the growling male standing in the sunlight and looked to Isaiah.

"I...I...I'm sorry. You're right. I shouldn't have said that." Kendrick ducked his own head and for some reason he felt hike he should go over and beg for the former beta's forgiveness in a more physical manner but Ezekiel's scowling face said otherwise.

"Well that's fine but we should... Someone's coming." Ken looked to the Collie strangely before he heard light footsteps heading for his door way.

"Oh crap! It's the neighbors! Quick, tell me how to turn back into a human!" Ken desperately wanted to avoid a confrontation with the other tenants as some of them thought he was a little weird. This event would take the cake and have him on the streets in no time flat.

"Yo-You can't! Not for another day atleast. Your body has to have time to adjust to being in this form or you might end up causing harm to all three of your forms!" Isaiah barked his comments with such force that some of the people outside began to talk out loud.

"I knew it. He does have dogs in there!"

"He's the one who woke us up with that noise."

"We should just talk to the boy first and then decide what to do. After all he is such a nice young man."

Kendric bit his tongue as he turned his head with enough force to cause whiplash. An idea sparked in his mind before he knew it.

"Alright. All of you get into my bedroom and don't say a word!" the others looked confused before Ken barked and sent everyone except Ezekiel and Isaiah moving.

"What are you waiting for hurry!" the new weredog commanded.

"What are you going to do?" Ezekiel moved to his mate and looked to the new pack's alpha before getting nudged to the back room.

"Let the alpha handle it." Isaiah nipped his lover on the shoulder and then both hurried into Ken's room and shut the door with a flick of one of their tails.

'This better work!' Kendric pressed his paw to the door and then barked out a chant. At first nothing happened and then arcanic symbols weaved themselves over the wood door before the room glowed with a golden light and everything returned to normal. Sniffing under the door the mage-weredog breathed a sigh and then concentrated on his other task.

The knock at the door came with perfect timing, as Ken was able to get to the door and open it with his paws. The residents of the apartments below came inside and looked around to see the normally tidy living space in complete disarray.

"My word..." an older woman exclaimed as she looked around in horror.

"What could have happened here?" a man standing next to her said.

"Hey everyone sorry about the mess but Kenny and I were trying to do a few things and the house got junky." Kendrick's voice called out.

"Ken sweetie, where are you?" a woman in her late fifties asked to the near vandalized looking apartment.

"Oh I'm in the bathroom. I'm sorry but I was trying to take a bath could you come back later. I know it's about the dog but just give me about two hours and then I'll be out..."

"Look young man we heard 'dogs' in this room not a dog. This needs to be explained at this moments." One wrinkly old fart said with his face in a frown.

"That's alright Ken, it can wait." The fifty year old woman said as she bayed the others to get out of the apartment with shooing motions.

"Thanks Ms. Huskstible!" the older woman nodded her head and then patted the dog 'Kenny' by the door, who everyone just noticed as he was being very still, almost like a statue, before getting the group of befuddled humans out and going about their business.

Once the peanut gallery had dispersed Ken breathed a sigh and opened his muzzle and let a yellow ball of light flow into himself. Sighing in exhaustion the former human went to his room and stepped inside before falling flat on his chest.

"You guys better thank whatever gods exist for lycanthropes that Ms. Huckstible in this apartment building, otherwise we'd all be in a mess." The rest of the pack had crammed themselves wherever they could to get comfortable inside of the small room while Ezekiel had jumped on Ken's bed in a clear show of dominance.

"...hump... We could have handled those humans fine on our own." Ezekiel turned up his nose before circling and sitting down on Kendric's mattress

"If you don't get your stinky and furry butt off of my bed, so help me by the gods I'll....!!!!!!!!" Ken felt his fur bristling as he stood up and growled low in his throat while sticking his tail up in the air.

"Make me, alpha." Ezekiel sneered down at Ken before the other alpha jumped up and wrestled him onto the floor.

Before fangs could sink into fur both were drug apart by the other members of the pack with a pissed off looking Isaiah standing in his humanish form with something in his hand. Ezekiel and Kendrick looked up in time to see a rolled up paper hit them dead in the head before stars appeared in their eyes.

"If you two morons have had enough with the proverbial pissing contest. Don't we have a bigger problem to deal with?" the beta held the newspaper in his hands and swung it over his left shoulder like a broadsword as he glared down at his mate and new alpha.

"owww.... He's tough..." Ken felt his head spin as he focused on getting his vision reorganized.

"I wouldn't mate a wimp." Ezekiel said with some pride as he shook his head and looked to Isaiah with something akin to pride.

"He's right though. They're going to be back and I have to explain this in an hour, two at most. Oh man..." Ken slumped back down onto the floor and covered his head with his paws as he wondered how he was going to deal with this. None of this was even remotely in his life's goals but as someone said...

'Life is what happens while you're making other plans.'

"And he was so right..." a lick on his nose made Ken remove his paws to see one of the Labs whining at him and panting in his face.

"I guess I don't have any choice but to deal with this. So...I have a day until I can change back right?" Ken turned to ask Isaiah.

"Well technically I'm not sure about that. That's the time limit for weredogs who are born into a pack once they reach adulthood but for humans turned I would think so...but not one hundred percent...so..." The human Collie turned to his mate for an answer only to find that Ezekiel was back on top of Ken's bed asleep.

"You ASSHOLE!" Ken roared as another fight ensued, of course

Ten minutes later once Isaiah had dished out another serving of 'Punishment By Rolled Paper' the two alphas and beta thought up some ideas.

"You could always find us a new home in another park somewhere or a forest by the edge of a city." Ezekiel commented.

"And I told you, fur for brains, that I ain't used to living like a dog am definitely not eating scarps for the rest of my life. So forget it!" Ken barked at the former alpha.

"Well then is there a way you can reach one of your human friends and have them come over and help you with this situation?" Isaiah countered

"I...could but most of the humans I know are kinda flaky and the only other person I could call would be...ugh..." Kendric shivered as he thought about calling 'that' person. His furs stood on end at the thought of trying to get in touch with...'her'.

"Well do you have the luxury of being so picky? If you don't I will not let anything happen to the pack and they should be your primary duties and concerns, ALPAH." The former alpha said with venom. Ezekiel hated that this new alpha had once been human as human always made things more complicated than need be.

Ken glared for a moment but looking back at the other canines who were sitting as quiet as church mice waiting for their leaders to come to a decision Ken relented and went to his phone. Knocking the receiver over with his paw Ken pecked a number in with his new claws and then waited for hell to come on the other end....

"Hello?" someone answered

"Cherie...I need your help..." Ken tossed the phone aside just in time to save his hearing in his left ear the pack however...

"KENNNNNNNNNNNNYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy you called; it's been like what forever since we last spoke to each other! How have you been? What have you been up to? Doing any more hocus-pocus? What about that girl? Have you and she settled down yet? And what....?"

"Cher! Please just come over ASAP." Ken looked to the others and noted that everyone, including Ezekiel, had taken a few steps back from the shrill howl coming from the phone. He almost felt bad that he hadn't warned them but then again...

"Oh so it's like a real emergency? Well I'll be over in a flash!"

In the next second the pack was introduced to a bright flash of light and a person popping into the room out of thing air.

"HI!" The person waved to no one in particular as they looked around and smiled like a lunatic.

'What have I done?' Ken felt tears come to his eyes and turned to put his head under his paws as he cried to himself in hopelessness of his situation. The rest of the pack looked to their new alpha in confusion and then the human standing, or better to say floating, in the bedroom with some disdain.
