Chapter Three, Of Booze and Faith

Jake

Jake stood at the bottom of the ladder facing Brody, who stood wide eyed in shock. Realizing who it was the fox composed himself. "I'm going after the bastards who killed my mother and kidnapped my sister, what's it look like I'm doing?!" snapped Brody. Turning his back on the other boy he grabbed the pistol and its holster along with some boxes of ammo. Storing those in his pack he snatched a rifle and knife from the shelf to. "Why do you care? You going to stop me?" he asked an edge to his voice.

Jake shook his head, "no I'm not going to stop you but I think you're stupid going by yourself." He said walking over and pulling a hat out of a chest almost a mirror of Body's. Liberating a rifle from the dusty shelf Jake checks it before slinging it over his shoulder.

Brody watches him as he grabs two boxes of rifle and pistol ammo. Jake begins to load the rifle sliding the spare shells into the loops in a bandoleer he found under the hat. "Ok now what do you think your doing?" Brody snips sharply.

Putting the remaining rifle bullets into a ammo pouch he had taken from a hook Jake looks at him from the corner of his eyes. "it's a bit obvious don't you think? I'm going with you." He replies strapping the pouch to his hip. Picking up the remaining boxes of ammo he moves toward the ladder, moving up it before the annoyed fox has time to respond.

Quietly Jake packs his things loading up his pistol and strapping it to his thigh. Putting some other rounds in another pouch on his belt before packing the last boxes away. Checking his knife is at his hip Jake grabs his pack, leaving a quick letter to his dad on the table and heads out the door.

Brody

Brody could not tell if he was more relived or annoyed having another join him. The two feelings thrashing each other in his head . Grabbing his pack from the porch the fox makes his way to the cellar. Stuffing some dried fruit and meat into two bags he walks over to Jake. As he hands over the wolfs bag of food their hands touch, Brody feels his cheeks grow hot and looks up unintentionally meeting Jakes eyes. He feels a flood of warmth tickle up his spine. Was that love? He asked himself.

"You got everything you want to bring?...Brody? ...Brody!" Jake asked in a hushed voice. Brody shook his head and snapped out of it.

"Yea..wait no I got to get one last thing stay here!! " the fox runs quietly into the house and grabs his father's map and compass from his desk, leaving a note for him to find in their place.

Sighing he looks at Jake "ok lets go".

The wolf raised an eye brow, "where?"

Brody picked up his pack, "Standing Rock!"

Isaac

His ears twitched as the two boys walked out of the house, one after the other. After a while Isaac got up and walked out onto the porch. "They went out on their own huh?" he asked stretching his joints popping.

Taking his pipe from his lips he nodded, Cain blew out a stream of smoke. "Yup, I could go get them if you want won't take more then a few hours."

Isaac shook his head, "No this is something they have to do on their own lets get John to the doc's and then we can go after them."

Jake

Finished setting up the tent in the shallow cave they had found just the sun was setting, from the acrid smoke coming from behind him Jake knew Brody still had not gotten the fire started . turning around he walked over to the frustrated fox. "Here let me help you." He said reaching for the matches.

Brody knocked his hand away, "No I can do this on my own, it can't be that hard!" striking another match Brody went to go light the fire only to have it fizzle out belching smoke. "Damit what am I doing g wrong?!" he asked throwing the stick in a small pile of other discarded matches.

Chuckling Jake reorganized the pile taking the matches and lighting the fire. "you used to much leaf matter and did not give the flames room to breathe, " he said as the fire caught on the tinder "see that's how you do it!" he looked over at Brody and saw the fox looking sullen. Hey what's wrong its not that bad you just got to eager is all." he said.

Brody sighed choking back a sob, "how the hell can I expect to rescue my sister if I cant even get a dammed fire started?!" tears ran down his cheeks as he said this, "I'm so useless!" the fox screamed. "I couldn't even help her when she was right in front of me when those bastards took her!!!"

He felt strong arms wrap around him as Jake huged him. " Stop thinking like that! How is that going to help your sister ey?" Letting go of Brody Jake looked into his eyes "You can do this and im here to help you." After what seemed like an eternity the fox nodded and Jake smiled, "that's better now lets have something to eat!"

Dinner was a soggy affair given that it was at that time that the sky opened up and sheets of rain began to fall on the two . they stripped off their damp cloths and set them by the fire which was afforded some protection by the cave. Clad only in their under where they slipped into the tent and under their bed rolls wrapping himself tight in a blanket Jake beaded down and started to drift to sleep. Only to be woken by Brody who was shivering in his sleep . Jake pulled Brody's bed roll next to his and covered them both with the 2nd blanket snuggling the other boy , who stopped shaking and relaxed in his arms.

Brody

Brody woke up blinking the sleep from his eyes the next mourning the sound of rain filling the cave. He becomes aware of Jakes arms wrapped around him. At first he tensed up unsure of what to do, slowly he leaned back into the wolfs chest taking a deep breath the of wolfs scent causing his mussels to relax. As he lay there he became aware of something hard and warm pressing into his lower back. His blood ran ice hot in surprise. he lightly pressed his rump back into Jake's cock feeling it through the cloth, freezing when he felt Jake shift, feeling him tense up as he realized exactly what was going on.

"Brody?" Jake quietly asked, Brody played asleep keeping silent expecting him to move away and distance himself. Brody's eyes instead went wide in shock as he felt Jake press forward hugging him closer grinding his cock into him.

"he cant be..." thought Brody shifting as he thought causing Jake to stop thinking he was caught. The fox grinned and faked a yawn pretending not to have noticed, "morning ...Jake"

"B-Brody your awake!"

The fox nodded. "yea I had this strange dream though that someone was pressing this huge gun barrel into my back and moving it around."

Jake coughs "well that dose sound like a odd dream, I wonder what it means." Brody looks over his shoulder as Jake stands up and stretches beginning to take the camp down.

"Well be at Standing Rock soon, by the end of the day I recon." said Jake changing the subject quickly. Brody smiled and his tail waged slightly at how flustered the other fur got.

Packing up the bed roll and grinning to himself as he noticed Jake looking at his rump out if the corner of his sight. After a few more peeks taken by both boys they set off again across the planes. Brody following the more rapid and sure footed pace set by Jake, his own steps more nimble and carefree

Looking sidelong at Jake Brody broke the silence, "So you have a girl waiting for you back home?" giggling as the wolf stumbled and catching him before he fell over.

"thanks and, um..no I don't " Brushing himself off Jake started off again going slower so Brody was able to walk beside him. "and yourself Brody?"

To cought up in his mental cheering and dancing Brody did not even register the question at first. "wha..? oh! No i..i don't have nay one special either.. " he could feel himself blushing .

"Well maybe we will both find someone out here" Jake said with a sly smile a idea forming in his head. they spoke little more till they reached Standing Rock.

The town was arranged in a cul-de-sac manner all of the buildings in a semi circle in the center of which was a large upright egg shaped rock. Looking around for any sign of Seamus. Brody turns to Jake to ask a question when a deep voice bellows at them , "out of the way pups!!!" as a large horse pulling a wagon of trade items trudges past them they stumble to the side and almost collide with another wagon when a pair of strong paws grasps each of their shoulders and pulls them off the road.

Both the startled boys look behind them to the owner of the tan furred paws, first noticing the saber cats large fangs ,the gold badge on his vest jacket and the gun holstered at his hip.

Looking the boys over his pine green eyes study them. "you two new here, your first time in a big town right?" he asks with a grin . first to recover his wits Jake nods.

"yes sir were looking for someone who is supposedly lives here" says the young wolf.

The saber cat nods "well first lets get each others names so there no more of this sir malarkey I hate formalities and titles, my name is Aaron Robinson and im the sheriff here in standing rock, just call me Aaron though every one dose. " he sticks out his hand for a shake. Jake grasps it firmly smiling he thinks fast on his feet. "I'm Caleb and this is Sam." The false names causing look of confusion briefly flickering on Brody's face before he caught on.

Aarons eyes flickered to each of them not fooled for a second but deciding not to pursue the matter. "well boys how can I help you here, its pretty obvious you need it." he asked grinning.

Brody smiled back, "we are looking for Seamus Callahan" he said after deciding he could trust him with this bit of information. "He's a close friend of our family's and we need to find him."

Aaron nodded "I know Seamus well he owns a bar here in town called The Confessional, come on ill take you to there. " he started off into town "wouldn't want you to get lost or mugged now would we."

The boys looked at each other and scurried after him.

Brody

Jake and Brody followed Aaron to the bar a little ways off. The Confessional as it turned out was a church that had been converted into a saloon. Aaron chuckled to himself, "By the Gods if Seamus's parents could see this now they might die twice hehe, they owned this here church and were the biggest bible thumpers youed ever meet! Never said a word to me after they found out I was a polytheist. Seamus hated them to never let him do his own thing in life so he-" whatever Aaron was about to say was cut off when he opend the door and a jackrabbit flew backwards into him knocked out.

"aww shit not again..." he groned pushing the limp rabbit off to the side, Aaron dogged a swing from a mountain lion, the saber cat followed through with a mean upper cut putting the other big cat out of the fight. pulling out a revolver he loads a blank round and fires off a shot catching the attention of most of the brawlers, who upon seeing the Sherriff a loaded gun in his paw bolted out the side doors. till only two dedicated patrons to intent on throttling the other to take notice of the lawman in the midst. Walking up behind the two fighters he slams the but of his pistol down on the back of the head if one of the furs dropping him to the ground out cold. The other only had enough time to say "hey that's not fair..." before a quick bunch to the temple put him out to. Cuffing both furs Aaron turns to the bartender.

The bartender a English sheep dog who was poring a drink for himself a board expression on his face as smoke puffed from the long pipe clenched In his mouth, he glances up and spots Aaron and the two boys a expression flashed across his face to quickly to read. "Seamus that was getting a bit out of hand don't you think? " Aaron asked chuckling "I have two boys here who are very interested in talking to you."

Seamus looked Brody and Jake over, "and I me self am very interested to hear what they have to say, If Im correct in guessing who they are." His thick Irish accent layering the words in a almost melodic way. "lets get the riffraff out of here first eh? No need for idle ears and lose toungs ."

Having cleared the pub Seamus locks the door and shutters the windows before turning on his three guests and motioning to a set of unbroken chairs around the bar . "so Brody, John what can I get ye to drink?".
