#4 of Whispers In The Dark series

Crappy title.

Finally got this done. x.x

I'm not really happy with the last part, but I wanted to hurry and finish so I can continue on to what else I have planned for this story.

Tried to add a little humor in this one. ^^

Kane and Takiro ©: Me~

A high-pitched scream suddenly rang through Kane's ears before he sat straight up in his bed, his eyes wide and alert. He wondered where the scream had came from for a moment before he remembered. "Takiro?!" he exclaimed, quickly climbing out of bed, only in his black boxers, to dash out of the door and into the living room.

"What's wrong?! What-" he suddenly stopped, blinking slowly to see the silver fox curled up in a ball on the couch, trembling in fright. He looked around to see nothing unusual, other than the entertainment cabinet open and his 32'' tv on that was now playing Spongebob. He frowned and saw the remote on the floor in the middle of the room, picking it up and turning the tv off. The wolf put the remote on the coffee table and went over to the shaking fox. "Hey, it's okay. What scared you?" he asked her, watching as she slowly picked up her head from beneath her tail to glance at the television.

Kane frowned in confusion as to why the tv would have scared her. "It's just the tv, it's not gonna hurt you silly." he explained, noticing her face grow confused as if she didn't know what he was telling her. "Do you know what a tv is?" he asked her, surprised that she shook her head slowly. He wondered what this girl has been doing all her life not to know what a television is.

He sighed and sat down on the couch next to her, leaning back comfortably with his hair in a slightly ruffled bed-head from that night. "What is a tee-vee?" Ryn asked him quietly as she looked up at him innocently with her big eyes. He frowned as he blinked at her, letting out another soft sigh as he thought of a way to explain. "Well, it's a box that lets you see moving pictures for entertainment. You had turned it on earlier. See?" he told her and picked up the remote once more, showing her the little power button before he pressed it, turning the tv back on as it continued to play Spongebob. Taki eeped and jumped as it turned on, hiding her face back into her tail. "Look, it's alright. See? Nothing's gonna happen to you." he told her as she slowly lifted her head to peek at the television, her eyes wide at the moving figures on the screen. She stared at it for a minute before she seemed to be mesmerized by it. She slowly crawled off the couch to move closer to the tv, her eyes not leaving the screen before she sat a couple of feet in front of it.

Kane found this strange until he gotten up from his seat, and went into the kitchen, noticing the time on the microwave clock. "Six in the morning?" he grumbled quietly, frowning as he wondered if he should leave Takiro there to watch tv and go to bed, or make sure she doesn't scare herself along with him with the amount of technology he has in his house. He shrugged and walked back into the living room, noticing that she barely moved at all, if any. 'She should be fine, I guess.' he thought before yawning and going back to bed.

***4 hours later***

'She's still sitting there...' Kane thought after he had gotten up and made his way to the living room to check on the small fox. He found her in the exact same spot, still staring at the television that was now playing My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

He frowned a bit and went into the kitchen, deciding to cook up something since he was starving and Takiro must be too. Luckily it was his day off of work so he can try to learn about Takiro more. He pulled a few things out of the cabinets, a pan, some eggs and bacon, seasoning, and some bread. A simple meal for him to cook without really burning anything. After a few minutes of concentrated cooking, he managed to cook some scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast with what little orange juice and milk he had in his near empty fridge. He set everything on the table and went back to the living room.

"Hey... Takiro?" He questioned, stepping closer to the girl sitting on the floor. She didn't even twitch at his voice. Kane frowned at this and picked up the remote that was on the couch where he left it, turning the television off with a 'click'. She jumped as the screen went blank and seemed to come back to life as she looked around before finally noticing Kane. Her ears fell back as she turned her gaze away, as if she had done something wrong. He frowned at this as he set the remote back down. "I made breakfast, if you're hungry." He told her, motioning towards the kitchen with a tilt of his head.

She glanced at the entryway to the kitchen before she looked back down and slowly stood on her feet. He watched her for a minute before turning and walking back into the kitchen, glancing back to see her following behind him. He moved around the table and was about to sit before he noticed Takiro just standing there with a surprised expression.

"Something wrong?" He asked her, a bit worried by the look on her face. She seemed to stare wide-eyed at the food he had placed on the table for a moment before glancing up at him and shaking her head as she sat down in the chair across from him. He watched her for a moment before grabbing some food from the choices he made and began to eat, only to stop when he noticed that Takiro didn't begin to eat, just sitting there staring at the food on the table.

"You gonna eat?" He asked her, causing her head to shoot up to look at him, now sitting up straight as a board. She didn't answer as she looked back at the food. "Is it... Okay?" She quietly asked, causing him to grow even more confused. "Well, yeah it's okay. I cooked it because I knew you had to be hungry right about now." He explained, frowning a bit as her strange behavior confused him even further. She also frowned, still staring at the food. "But... It's a lot..." She murmured, her voice as if she was quite surprised.

Kane blinked and motioned his paw towards the food. "Go ahead, eat 'till your heart's content." He told her, returning to his own food, but glancing up to make sure she ate as well. He watched her as she just sat there for a moment before she picked up a few things with her fork and dropped them onto her plate, though with her usual confused look on her face. She poked at the food before taking a bite of the eggs, blinking for a moment before she seemed to melt in front of him. "This is really good..." She murred, the sides of her mouth turning up in a small smile.

He seemed to smile in return to see the small fox even a little happier from before. As he ate, he watched as she cherished every bite of food she ate, as if she had never eaten food like this before. That thought made him wonder, and thought maybe this was his chance to get to know Takiro more.

"So Takiro, where are you from?" He asked her with sincere curiousity, wondering if he would actually get some answers out of her this time. She glanced up from her food, blinking for a moment as her gaze returned down to her plate. "I dunno, the forest I guess." She murmured quietly, taking a small bite of her food. "Well, where do you live?" He asked once more, his brow furrowing in confusion since he was one of many that knew living in the forests were quite dangerous due to natural predators roaming those woods.

The fox simply shook her head. "I don't have a home... Not anymore." She barely spoke above a whisper, her eyes fixated on the plate in front of her. He frowned in surprise, not knowing that she was now living on the streets. "You don't have any family or friends to help you?" He asked, wondering if this girl was truly alone in this world. She stopped in mid-chew of a bite of food, taking a moment to swallow before she shook her head, her gaze now moving even lower to where her hair now covered her eyes. Knowing he hit a nerve,

Kane shuffled through his mind in a chance to frantically change the subject, but then noticing a metal collar around her neck. "What's that collar around your neck?" He pointed out, since most collars people wore were leather or cloth, only for fashion. As to Takiro's collar, it was metal, and looked tight and very uncomfortable to wear around her neck. She lifted her head up a bit, only to lift a trembling paw to touch the collar around her neck. "It's... It's a symbol that I am... Owned by someone else... As a... Pet or slave..." She muttered quietly, her voice completely dead before she stood suddenly, turning to practically run out of the kitchen and into her temporary room, slamming the door behind her while leaving Kane sitting there in complete shock.

*** She couldn't believe she told him that. It horrified her to the core, the horrid truth that she was still owned by someone, and not truly free like she thought she was. Evan's symbol was on the back of the collar where it had supposedly clamped shut around her neck when he gave it to her before she knew the horrible things he had put her through.

She had collapsed on the plush bed while holding back sobs and tears, many thoughts running through her head that soon became a headache. She laid there for a moment, rubbing her eyes to make sure no tears escaped. Kane was so nice and kind to her, she mostly expected him to treat her like how all the other guys treated her back at the mansion, as if she was different and deserved to be punished because of it. But he was gentle to her, giving her a room to stay and had cooked food for the both of them.

The food was what surprised her the most. She had been used living on very few to no food for most of her life, even worse when she was staying at the mansion. But the sight of actual food on a table other than bread and mystery slop caught her off guard. At first, she thought there was a catch. She thought that he was gonna eat and have her watch like what Evan had done to her many times before. The thoughts were a force of habit, and her mind had already decided that all guys were the same, the ones that just use and abuse as they wish. But when he told her she could eat as much as she wanted to, that made her wonder if Kane was different. Maybe.

She let out a deep sigh, curling up on her side as she let her thoughts wander. She really liked the room he had given her, the soft lavender walls made the atmosphere feel soothing. She kept the small bedside lamp on because of her fear, but the light comforted her even more to a point where her mind was soon slipping away into the soft clutches of sleep. She didn't sleep that night, but she now hoped and wished that her dreams would be good.
