Spyro and the Sun God: Chapter 3

As Spyro approached the middle of the village, he growled, seeing Blue rampaging through it. "Hey, you! Cut that out!"

Blue grinned, turning around towards the purple dragon. "Ahh...you finally showed up."

"Yeah, I did. And you better beat it before I beat YOU!" Spyro threatened, standing his ground, snarling at the larger blue dragon.

"HAH! You really think you can defeat me? Last time we met, I totally thrashed you!" Blue let out a loud laugh, grinning darkly.

Spyro remembered, growling a little louder. "Well then let's go! Let's see if you can do it twice!"

Blue chuckled again, his claws at his sides, ready to grab the dragon if he attacked. "I see you're giving me the first move?" He taunted after a few seconds, before assaulting Spyro with his large, sharp claws out in front of him. Spyro easily dodged the opening attack, flapping his wings to strafe left and then take to the air, Blue following after him. "Resistance is futile, Spyro!" "Says you! If I can beat that old hag, Red, then I can beat you too!" Spyro taunted, before flying straight towards the ground, and landing, Blue still following after him.

"I have you now!" He growled, speeding down at Spyro, who dodged at the last second, Blue not being able to stop fast enough, and crashing into a hut, completely destroying it.

"Damnit Spyro...can't have that happen again..." the dragon thought to himself, quickly launching a fireball at the stunned Blue. It hit him square in the back, making him roar out in pain, but he stood up a couple seconds later, and turned around again.

"Seems you do have some fight in you, whelpling. But how about this??" He opened his maw wide, breathing an enormous fireball at Spyro.

"Damn!!" Spyro growled, but used his Water Breath, putting out the giant flaming sphere. However Blue just kept launching them, and Spyro couldn't keep up with them. He jumped up and flew over the last one, which smashed through another hut. "If this keeps up, I won't have any village left to save!" He thought to himself, before taking off in the air a second time, gazing around quickly to get some help. "Running away, is he? I know what will keep him here..." Blue grinned, flying over to another hut, and smashing it with a kick, causing Spyro to turn back around to look.

"Damnit! That's right! Ember's still in the hut!!" Spyro growled, turning back to the village, and landing back in the middle, Blue meeting him there.

"Like I said, Spyro, resistance is futile. Give up now and I might let you live." the large blue dragon grinned.

"Grr, shut up and bring it!" Spyro growled, almost a roar from an angered beast.

Sparx in the meantime was still some distance away from the action; however he was living his own with the female he had just encountered. They were both floating around along in the air with no worry in the least. "So is it true you're the great Sparx that the other dragonflies are talking about?"

"She knows quality when she sees it!" Sparx grinned mentally, nodding to her with a dumb grin, "Why yes! I'm one of the heroes that defeated the mean old dragon Red and restored the peace to the Realms!"

"Wow! That's impressive!" the pink dragonfly smiled, the tiny bonnet on top of her head accentuating her cuteness, which almost made Sparx drool at her, but he kept playing cool, "Not many dragonflies can beat a dragon fifty times their size!" Sparx blushed slightly, but soon grinned at seeing his opportunity with her, "Ahem, that's because I'm not any normal dragonfly. I'm the mighty Sparx!" he said, arching one of his short arms, a little muscle bulging on the insect's limb. "You should have seen me. Heh. That red muscle-head didn't know what hit him. He was out cold before I even approached him!"

"Cool! I see why they call you Great Sparx! But why don't you live with the other dragonflies? They'd sure make you their idol or something!"

"My dear Mina, I'm not the typical hero either. I don't need to show off to anybody!" he said, an imaginary nose growing out of his face "I just need to have my Realm safe and sound from every," one of the big explosions thundered nearby, "Mommy!" Sparx was startled and astonished at this in such way he flew behind Mina's back and tried to curl himself by her side.

"Oh? What was that?" Mina saw the smoke floating up, coming from the center of Dragon Village, "Oh my! The Village! What could be going on there?!"

Silence. "Sparx?" Mina turned around, seeing the curled figure of Sparx just a few feet away, her former position.

Sparx stopped shaking and lifted his head, realizing he was making a fool of himself in front of the female he liked. He appeared besides Mina in a flash, puffing his chest out, "Ehem! I'll go take care of this nuisance! Nobody's going to destroy any village while it's still my shift!"

"Oh! You're just so brave!" Mina held her hands together, blinking rapidly in a lovingly sigh.

"I know!" the golden dragonfly said with confidence, "I know" he thought to himself, almost a mental sob. And that was when he took off to the village.

While Sparx flew, Spyro continued his enduring battle with Blue, both dragons pitting each other in what seemed to be a decided fight with Blue coming out on top.

"Hey, Spyro!! What the heck is going on here?!" A voice called out, Sparx flying in and up to Spyro's head. "What's the big blue guy doing here again?"

"Don't know, but we have to stop him." Spyro answered, leaping away from Blue while looking up at Sparx. "Oh, don't include me, then. I'm not really up for any death-defying fighting right now." Sparx shook his head.

"Come on, Sparx! If you don't help me, he'll get you, too." Spyro warned.

"Well now that you put it like that... I'll help you!" The dragonfly sighed, staying by Spyro's head.

"Thanks." Spyro grinned, turning back to Blue, feeling more confident with his dragonfly by his side.

"A dragonfly? To aid you? You've got to be kidding." Blue nearly fell over laughing, his voice booming through the village.

Spyro kept his grin, starting to approach Blue. "Don't underestimate me, now. I'm a lot stronger with my pal, here." he explained, a little bit of smoke rising from his nostrils.

"Really. Even if you really are, I highly doubt you can beat me."

The purple whelpling chuckled softly, before lowering his head, and charging at Blue, who saw him coming, and regained seriousness. Just as Spyro was about to hit, he grasped the dragon by the horns, picking him up, and flinging him at the hut Ember was sleeping in, sending him crashing through. "Who what where?!" Ember awoke startled, her eyes opening quickly, seeing the hurt Spyro inside the hut, with a hole through the roof. "Spyro, what's going on?"

"Village...being attacked..." Spyro groaned, shaking his head, before standing back up again, flying out through the hole in the roof.

"What??" Ember ran out the door, looking at the half-destroyed village, and then at Blue. "What's he doing here?"

"Oh? So your girlfriend is here?" Blue grinned, looking over at the pink dragoness. He opened his maw wide again, launching a bigger fireball right at her.

"Ohh!!" Ember screamed in fear, fainting and falling over onto the ground.

"Ember!!" Spyro shouted, flying straight towards her, beating his wings as hard as he could, but he was too late. The fireball hit him instead, exploding and sending him flying towards the other end of the village, but leaving Ember unharmed.

"So sweet, Spyro. Sacrificing yourself for your mate" Blue chuckled, walking over to Ember, and picking her up by the neck, then approaching the purple dragon, looking down at him with a dark grin. "What are you going to do, hmm? You're in no condition to fight at all, anymore." "Sh...Shut up..." Spyro growled, trying to get back up, but he could barely move his limbs.

"There's no point in trying to get up, Spyro. Your life will be over soon..." Blue smirked, kicking the dragon, sending him a few feet away.

"S-stop it...bastard..." Spyro growled again, looking up at Blue from where he was.

"Come on, buddy! You can't give up now!" Sparx exclaimed, grasping Spyro's cheeks, and shaking his head. "Get up!"

"I...I can't...do it..." Spyro laid his head back down, looking up at Ember, who was still unconscious in Blue's claw.

"Hey, usually I'd say you're right, and to just run away, but WE'VE GOT A PROBLEM HERE!" Sparx yelled, giving Spyro a slap across the face. "Get up!"

"Grrh!! Okay, okay..." Spyro growled, using the last of the strength he had to stand up again, wobbling a little bit.

"Oh? So you can still stand. Very good, Spyro." Blue chuckled, looking down at him. "But, make one move, and your girl gets it." He brought a claw-nail to Ember's neck, rubbing it gently.

"You leave her out of this, coward!" Spyro growled, but only got a stomp from the mammoth paw of Blue, the impact sending Sparx flying away into a rock, which almost knocked him unconscious. "I'm not a coward. It's called... strategy, young one" the large dragon grinned, knowing now that he had won already, "I'm going to enjoy tearing each scale out of your girl's body until there's nothing left"

Spyro grunted at the stomp, his heart beating fast, then suddenly very slowly. However, each motion his heart did provoked outstanding sound.

"What is it, boy? Dragon got your tongue? Hah-hah-hah-hah-hah!" Blue laughed maniacally, raising his foot again and dropping its weight on Spyro once more. The purple dragon roared in pain, and then his face sank onto the ground with the enormous weight it had to sustain. Another drumming heart beat.

Blue laughed harder "You, whelplings, are nothing compared to an Elder Dragon! You are going to perish at my claws for even trying to defy me!" then was the third heartbeat. It rocked into Blue's head, which stopped his laughter and made him stare down at his feet.

Spyro growled and grunted as he felt pain, but it wasn't the pain Blue was giving him, he felt frustrated with himself, he felt tension, anger, many negative feelings at the same time. He felt his despair building his rage up within himself. The fire running through his veins was producing a change inside of him. Spyro felt it tear his very self from the inside. The machine! That was it! It was destroying cells, re-forming new ones; the fire was boosting this process. A fusion of animal and artificially-created cells was taking place in every single corner of Spyro's body. He felt himself tingle, first it was a tingle that replaced his pain, but then it came back, his whole body shook, which made Blue step away and back off from the thrashing dragon. "What the?! This isn't normal!" Blue observed, almost terrified as he watched, dropping Ember on the floor next to him.

A fourth and final thundering heartbeat was heard in the area, a pillar of flames shot through Spyro and made him disappear in the intense fire. The shockwave this blast produced was so strong that all around the start of the pillar was destroyed or totally burnt down. Blue shielded himself with his wings not to get damaged. Ember luckily had fallen behind Blue, so she was unconsciously using him as a shield too.

Suddenly the fire started to slowly dissipate, the pillar shrinking and slowly disappearing. Leaving a towering figure on the black floor. Everything around it had been reduced to ashes.

Blue was slowly uncovering himself, when his eye met the figure he completely unshielded himself. Wide eyed and with his jaw-dropped he stared at the new being that had replaced Spyro, totally in disbelief.

Two red, shiny eyes could be made out from the smoke that covered the figure. The silhouette gave it all. It was a bipedal dragon, a huge bipedal dragon. Its wings stretched and blew the smoke away. The being must have been the complete size of one of the dragon huts, almost twice of Blue's or Red's size, it gripped its powerful claws together and arched himself back, one could admire the scary muzzle of the gigantic dragon sparking with flaming ember, it was ready to launch its attack. "What the?!" Blue barely had time to react; the opposing dragon opened his muzzle directing the raging blaze towards him. A huge fireball, bigger than any other attack he had previously witnessed before, was launched with impressive speed towards him. He had time to shield, but the impact made him fly away a good 10 feet away with incredible force.

The dragon took a step forward; a small quake shook the ground around them. The beast arched again, but this time it roared with such might, the whole village shook.

The vibrations around made Sparx wake up from his half-coma'd state and he opened his eyes only to witness a gigantic purple figure in front of him breathing fire uncontrollably and roaring in fury "I miss the butterflies..." he said before letting his head fall back and becoming unconscious once more.

To be continued...
