CHAPTER 6

It was night; shadow and sonic were at their room lying on their beds. The blue hedgehog was playing Wii while shadow watched the show. "Oh man.. Urgh.. Oh yeah! I won!", sonic mentioned every minute. Shadow only giggles behind his brother and blushes seeing him playing like that. After a while, sonic took another controller and gave it to shadow, the black hedgehog stared at it a little nervous. "Come on, play with me, don't worry if you lose, someday you'll win HaHa", sonic jokes with his brother, but shadow stays serious, we gone to see who laughs at the ending. It was 11PM but shadow and sonic were still playing Wii together; sonic obviously was winning, but shadow won't give up. Suddenly someone opens the door and sees both teeny hedgehogs there playing and laughing together: "Guys, its 11pm you should be asleep", Sofia told them. Shadow in fear drops his controller, which crashes on the floor. Sonic and Sofia went to him fast and found a pale shadow: "Hey shadow are you ok?", sonic asked him. Shadow did a sign to the clock; sonic understand it and looks at the time. The blue hedgehog shrugs as sign of ¨Huh¨. Shadow sighs and tells his brother about his work, he should have been there at 9:30PM. Sonic had eyes wide open and quickly took his mother from the shirt: "Mom, Shadow has to go to.. Uhm, to a friend! He wants to visit him, can he go?". Sofia was a little confused with the pull sonic did to her favorite shirt, but well she understands it and lets shadow go. "It's a little too late for this shadow, but it's ok.. just come back as early as possible ok?", Sofia told him and kissed him his forehead, shadow blushing thanks to his mother, to his amazing brother and leaves the house. "And you know his friend honey?", Sofia asked his blue son; who just nodded lying. Sonic hugged his mother as a goodnight-sign and then went upstairs worried. The blue hedgehog jumps on his bed and stays laying on it, he thought about shadows work. "Why does he work at this time? Where does he work?", those were some of the questions sonic had on his mind. "Well, I don't think it's bad, he earns his own money and learns to become independent. And somehow he is it already", sonic thinks lying on his bed.

On the bar had already everything started, shadow was really belated. But anyway, like always when he opens the door and goes inside, his friends greet him with a big "BLACKY!!". Nyle ran to him and hugged him, but this time softly. "Oh man honey, are you ok after what happened yesterday?", he asked. Shadow nodded and goes over to snake: "thanks for taking me home", he voices him. Snake blushes a lot and lifts his head to kiss shadow, who of course goes away again and leaves snake with an unfulfilled dream again. "Give up weasel, your dream will never come true", speech mentioned him joking. Snake lifts his head more and looks at speech angry: "of course I will; you had your fun with him too". Speech gasps hearing that, but happy remembers he it: ¨A year ago, the bar hadn't customs and the prostitutes were bored. Nyle was talking with shadow while speech couldn't resist staring at the youngest prostitute his body. So he decided to go over to them, so Nyle gave him a place in where to sit. "You don't have to take your money out, let's just do it as fun, after all we haven't customs", Nyle mentioned over to speech, while shadow sits on the bed nodding. Speech smiled to Nyle and started to kiss him, the black hedgehog just watched the show; he saw how both prostitutes were eating themselves in a kiss, how they touched each others bodies. But after all, shadow had another reason why he doesn't kiss him; snake always chased him when he was younger and scared him, because the weasel since the first day always loved him; anyway for scaring him always, and knowing his wish is to kiss him, he punishes him not kissing him. "I heard my name..", snake voices behind shadow scaring everyone. "Yeah, it's because I saw a snake on that table", Maurice jokes and makes the others giggle. "SO, who wants to play UNO?", Aaron stands up and says like a little girl. Everyone yelled ¨yeah I want to¨ except for shadow; "Oh come on blacky, maybe this time you will win!", Nyle mentioned to him, shadow looks at the oldest prostitute with a serious face and says: "you tell me that every time but I still lose". The prostitutes, including our waiter were laughing because of shadow, the hedgehog just sits down and sees the others playing. After two hours playing the game, the bar was full of customs like everyday; and for shadows surprise and bad luck, Knuckles was also there! "Oh Damn!", shadow shots, runs to his room and encloses himself. Nyle noticed that and looks at the enclosed door worried, the hedgehog goes over and knocks on the door: "Shadow? Something wrong?", he asked. The black hedgehog looked through the keyhole and saw knuckles talking to snake; the echidna looked nervous and impatient, maybe he was lost and chose a bad place to ask for his street. "I'm ok Nyle, but that red echidna there is a friend of mine, he shouldn't see me here!", shadow answered to Nyle, who understood quickly. "Don't worry blacky, I think I have an idea", Nyle says to the youngest prostitute, leaves the place and goes over to speech.

"Speech, saw that red echidna there?", the blue-green hedgehog said to the blue echidna pointing to knuckles, speech nods smiling. "He's a friend of blacky, you need to take him out of here", Nyle mentioned to his friend, who understands and provocative goes over to Knuckles. Knuckles leaving his nervousness, drinking a pint in the bar, waited a little before he went away again. Shadow couldn't leave his room with him there, so speech went to the other echidna and started to talk to him: "Hi honey, how lovely you look, could I do something for you?", speech told him. Knuckles looks over to speech with an eyebrow raised: "Uhm, no thanks I'm about to go", he told him. "Now?", speech asks him, who answers a ¨yes¨. After responding him, Knuckles gets up, pays snake the pint and leaves the bar, almost running. Speech goes over to shadows room, knocks and says: "Blacky, your friend is gone, come out already". Shadow sighs, comes out and goes over to snake and sits down. "Something wrong?", snake asks him. "That red echidna was a friend of mine, I had to hide myself", shadow answered him making snake raise his eyes like plates. "Ouf, then that was close.", the weasel answered. "Thought about telling your new brother, which I forgot the name, about your job honey?", Nyle asked to shadow, who obviously gasps immediately: "His name is Sonic, and NO!!!", he shots. "Blacky, your secret won't be a secret always if you live with him, he will know it sometime", the blue-green hedgehog told him raising an eyebrow; shadow couldn't resist to drop his ears and to sigh, he was about to cry again. The oldest prostitute seeing shadows tearful eyes, drops his ears and goes over to him: "I'm sorry honey, I didn't mean to hurt you..", he said. Shadow looks up to Nyle and only smiles at him, then he stands up and goes to a room, he wanted to be alone some time. Snake was looking at Nyle angry for doing that, but only sighs, after all he was right. Shadow was sitting on the same bed he had ¨fun¨ with the three musketeers, just thinking about how telling his brother that he's a prostitute. "I know I have to tell him, but not today, neither tomorrow", were his thoughts. After some time, the black hedgehog heard knocks on the door: "blacky, act-time", Maurice told him; Shadow after hearing it, gets up and leaves the room.

It was 3AM; shadow was tired and discouraged like never before being on his home-way. He only stared at the floor walking the street; he didn't care to crash with something, he only thought of Sonic. After those days knowing him, he felt butterflies in the stomach; he met a lot of boys in his whole life, but that one was different: he was kinder, nicer, worried, mettlesome (who doesn't notice that) and cuter. Shadow notices being a little in love with sonic; maybe it wasn't that bad, they aren't real ¨brothers¨ after all. After some walking, shadow comes on at his home, opens the door slowly and silently, takes his flower off his hair and then goes upstairs to his room. There was sonic watching TV; shadow couldn't resist to giggle. "Shadz, Hey I waited for you, I couldn't sleep, how was work?", sonic asks him kind. The black hedgehog nodded in sign of saying ¨good¨, and then he sits down on the bed next to sonic. "Ever heard about ¨The DL chronicles¨?", sonic asked his younger brother, who nods smiling. "I just saw the promotion", the blue hedgehog continues talking and then mimics the same sound of vomiting. Shadow gasps, what did he mean by that? "Did I tell you that I hate faggots?", there's the answer, said by sonic. Shadow didn't feel his heart, his eyes were like plates and his lips were shivering, he couldn't believe it, sonic was homophobic? On the street just thinking that he likes him and about how telling his brother about his job, and then he admits that he hates gays. Now what will he do? If sonic knows what shadows job is, he will hate the black hedgehog his whole life; shadow didn't want that, it would depress him a lot loving sonic. "Shadow.. Shadow hello? Earth to shadow!! Shadow!!! Waiting for an answer!!", the blue hedgehog yells trying to take shadows attention; the black hedgehog just stared to the front, but finally comes to himself. "Wh-what?", shadow whispers. "Something wrong, after telling you that I'm homophobic you fettered yourself", sonic mentioned. Shadow takes breath and tries to calm down, he never will tell his brother about his job and that his homophobic; that was his single thought. "Uhm, w-why a-are you ho-homophobic?", shadow stuttered. Sonic sighs, he had a big reason why he hated gays: "my dad's bisexual and when I was 9, an ex-boyfriend he had, came to our house and tried to kill him.. He tried to rape him before my eyes and to steal his money. My mom came at the right time and called the police; my dad was injured and pretty embarrassed. I couldn't hold my tears after 5 days. I had a same experience after 3 years with two gays, ex friends of mine; I stayed with the trauma with those faggots, and so since then I hate them like I hate breakfast without chilidogs", he tells. Shadow was about to cry, to scream his heart out and to kill himself, he couldn't believe it; under no circumstances should he know that shadow's homosexual. "I-I'm so sorry about that..", the black hedgehog whispers his brother, sonic only smiles at him and starts to hug him.
