CHAPTER 5

9AM on the next day, or better said the same day but hours later. Shadow woke slowly up, yawns much and looks around, yes; he was at home again since 1:10AM, toughing nobody would know he was away. But his thoughts were wrong; someone knew he was the whole night outside, and that someone was standing at the door staring at shadow like a menacing. "Good morning", sonic said pretty serious, shadow looked at him confused; "Uhm, good morning", the black hedgehog answers. "So my dear brother, would you please explain me WHAT WERE YOU DOING OUTSIDE TILL 1:00AM?", sonic yelled at him furious, shadow scared stared at him with his eyes wide open; he didn't know what to say, he was stayed like a statue there. The black hedgehog knew sonic would know it someday, but not actually that morning after being adopted; shadow drops his ears and has no other thing to do, then telling him: "I work", he mentioned fast. "Huh..?", sonic voices surprised; shadow only nods, sighs and looks down. "Since I'm 7 years old I worked to earn money, I needed it for the orphanage. Even thought the orphanage no longer exists, I need to work, somehow my job reminds me a lot of my favorite nurse..", shadow told him in memory of Sonia, even thought the last part wasn't true. Sonic drops his ears and stayed shocked where he was, now he understands everything, he sighs sadly and looks down: "I'm sorry, I didn't know", he says; "But, why didn't you tell us?", sonic adds and asks his brother worried; shadow looks at him and answers: "I.. I didn't know how you'll react..", he told with tearful eyes, obviously he thought anyone would be shocked if he tells the truth. Sonic sighs, goes over to his brother and hugs him: "even if some of your friends are junkies or you smoke marijuana, tell us, we'll understand you because we love you, but we gone to tell you what to do if it's wrong, got it?", sonic said hugging him, while shadow started to cry again, only nods and hugs him back; but even hearing that, his secret is still hidden.

Sonic and Shadow went downstairs to the kitchen, there were ¨their¨ parents already waiting for them to eat the breakfast: "Good morning my lovelies!", Sofia greeted smiling to both of them; sonic greets her and his father back, while shadow still was cleaning his tears. "Everything ok shadow?", Sonics father asked seeing the black hedgehog a little red for been crying, shadow nods and tries to smile cute. "What do we gone to eat?", sonic asks excited and hungry; shadow stared at him weirdly, he was absolutely hunger less, and actually he never ate breakfast in his life. "Bread with nutella", Sofia answers laughing, knowing that sonic was expecting something else; "ONLY?", sonic claims with an ¨oh noes¨-face, making shadow giggle; sonic liked to eat chilidogs as breakfast (urgh). "Sit down, now", Sonics father said strong to them, reading his newspaper on the table; sonic and shadow fast sat down, but sonic drops his head on the table, nearly breaking it; seeing that, shadow makes an ¨oww-it-hurt¨-face rising his eyebrow, while sonic only sighs. "Sonic please, be educated on the table", his father said strong again; sonic apologizes and waits for his breakfast. "Here you go, shadow do you want the same?", Sofia asks to the black hedgehog giving sonic his bread; shadow thinks about it first, then says: "a tiny one". Sofia freaks out of cuteness hearing that, so she only hugs his new son and then goes quickly do his breakfast. Sonic and his father stared at shadow like ¨WTF¨ about the kids answer about having bread, tiny? That was a little too cute for a black hedgehog. Shadow doesn't do anything as smiling like a kitty; sonic and his father stared at themselves weird, but only shrugged and started to eat. "Here you go my little kid", Sofia says to shadow giving him his ¨tiny¨-bread and then sits down starting to eat herself; Sonic swallowing heard what his mother said, he felt a little jealousy, but he also felt warmness and cuteness; also seeing how shadow ate his bread educated and sexy, like he ate on the McDonald, the blue hedgehog was about to explode.

After the breakfast, sonic was thinking about shadows speech today morning as he told him he was working since 9 years, maybe the black hedgehog wanted to keep it in secret, but sonic couldn't resist to tell his parents: "shadow, do you want to tell our parents about you working?", he asked; shadow opens his eyes like plates hearing that, of course his answer was ¨no¨, so sonic sighed only and didn't tell anything. "Please promise me you won't tell them", shadow whispered to his brother worried, sonic thought about it first, he didn't know why he didn't want to tell them, but being a good brother, he only smiles and nods: "I promise". After the breakfast, sonic received a call: "Yo Sonic, you want to come over now?", knuckles said on the cell phone, "Sure Knucks, I'll call you when we're ready", sonic answers him; "Were?", the echidna enquiries, he didn't know yet about shadow; "long story, I'll tell you when we're there, See ya!", sonic voiced and cuts his cell phone. Sonic went upstairs to his room, where shadow already was, and runs to him throwing him a jacket: "And this?", the black hedgehog asks looking at that piece of clothe; "We're gone to go to my friends, I told you already", the blue hedgehog answers him putting on his shoes. Shadow looked at him worried, he was scared to be rejected; and sonic noticed that looking at his face, he smiles at him only: "Don't worry brother; we all will be the best friends on the world", he told him. Both hedgehogs were preparing themselves, shadow needed a little more time then sonic, but after all both were prepared, went downstairs and went to the kitchen. "Mom, Dad, we'll be outside with knuckles", sonic told his parents; they just nodded and say goodbye to both, shadow was still nervous with this whole thing, but still goes with sonic and waves shyly his new parents.

Sonic were jumping and running the whole street, while shadow was calm walking as he were on the gateway; thank god sonic didn't notice that. "Here it is", sonic mentioned to shadow walking some streets from his home and coming on knuckles house on, he had also a great mansion, not bigger then Sonics (oops, sounded bad), but great as well. Sonic pressed the ring 1000 times to annoy knuckles, he did that really willingly, and good that his parents weren't at home. Sonic could hear how frustrated his friend was walking downstairs, while shadow was hidden behind him, the blue hedgehog just smiled; anyway he has to come out. Knuckles finally opened the door and greets sonic with "Hey pal" and a typical blow on his punches, the echidna could notice shadow behind sonic, he tried not to laugh: "You are the black sheep?", he asks joking, while the blue hedgehog was staring at him furiously. Knuckles shows only a peace sign, while shadow was coming out; I don't want to be a tattletale, but the echidna after seeing shadow, drops his mouth and drooled inside of him like a giant pervert. "Hi..", shadow said to him with a special and shy voice, knuckles was about to faint: "H-H-H-Hi", he stutter. "Knuckles, he's shadow, my new brother", sonic told him with a big happiness; knuckles had his eyes like plates, and he was absolutely red like a tomato: "Y-your.. N-new brother?", he repeated and asks again, he couldn't believe that. "My parents adopted him, he's now my younger brother and I want you all to meet him", sonic voiced still with his happiness; somehow knuckles felt nice too, restless and in love, but nice anyway. "Then let's go meet the others", knuckles spoke to both hedgehogs, closes his door and takes shadow on his arm and walks away, leaving sonic behind: "Hey wait for me!", he shots and runs behind them. Knuckles was walking with shadow in front of sonic, making him blush of jealousy, the echidna took the news better then he thought; and to make things worse he was talking with his brother like he knew him since long.

"Here lives Espio, great house huh?", knuckles shows shadow espios mansion, the black hedgehog was serious looking at it, where he was living now, had thousand more apartments then that one. "Alright, explanation why you left me behind!", sonic voiced over to knuckles, who just showed him a peace sign with his fingers. The echidna pressed the ring on espios house, which after two seconds opened the door. "Hey pal, let's go", knuckles said to the chameleon who was standing like a statue there; "Uhm, y-you are?", espio asked to the black hedgehog, blushing like an idiot. "Shadow, shadow the hedgehog, nice to meet you", shadow answered smiling cute and shy, espio was about to scream like a big fan girl. Sonic noticing that, blushes again of jealousy, so he went in front of shadow and greets his friend: "Hey espio, shadow is my new brother! My family adopted him just yesterday", he mentioned to the chameleon, who was drooling like a maniac; but after hearing what sonic said, cried of happiness and thanked his friends parents for adopting him on his mind. Espio and Knuckles were now both taking shadows arms, so they started to walk alone again, not before closing espios door; and of course sonic was about to explode of jealousy: "You are going to pay my dear friends!", he though inside of him, then just walks behind them. After visiting several houses, shadow met all friends of sonic, and all had the same reaction when they saw shadow for the first time, drooling; now six of Sonics friends, he and his brother were sitting on a bench on the train-station talking about weird things. Shadow was smiling cute all the time with his new friends, thinking always on his mind their names, he had to know them: knuckles the echidna, espio the chameleon, miles ¨tails¨ prower, vector the crocodile and mighty the armadillo. "You know, if you don't want to live with sonic, you can come over to my house", knuckles told him making everybody laugh; shadow was blushing while sonic was about to kill that echidna. "He won't go to your farm knucklehead! He's always gone to live with me!", sonic shots at him furious, so knuckles rises up from the bench and looks at him serious: "Are you challenging me rat?", he mocked sonic; the blue hedgehog stared at the echidna awful and wanted just to punch him, but shadow didn't left him: "Guys please, don't be clumsy!", he told them. Sonic and knuckles looked at the black hedgehog and calmed themselves, the echidna sat down again and sonic just stood in front of everyone with his arms crossed.

After five hours being outside with their friends, both brothers went back home; shadow was walking behind sonic seeing how frustrated he looked like, he had his arms still crossed and stared always to the front without blinking. "Sonic? Are you ok?", the black hedgehog asked his older brother shy and worried, having his hands in front of his chest fur. Sonic stopped in the middle of the street hearing shadows question; he only sighed and turned around: "I'm fine, let's go", he told him serious and started to walk again; shadow drops his ears and has nothing to do then follow him. Coming on their house, sonic opens the door and goes direct to his room, he doesn't even greet his parents who were right there standing. "But what, what happened?", Sofia asks his new son shadow, who only drops his ears more and closes the door. Sonic was on his room cursing like crazy the echidna; "how did he dare? That knucklehead, did he think I would give him my brother as present?", he thought, "I was a little hard with shadow, I have to apologize", the blue hedgehog adds and goes downstairs again. There he finds shadow telling his parents about what happened, Sofia just had covered her face with her hand, sonic felt a lot of shame. "It's my entire fault", shadow told them looking down, sonic didn't tolerate that: "No No No! What are you talking about? It wasn't your fault brother!", he voiced him hugging him like a nice brother, Sofia couldn't resist to drop a tear seeing that, but she also couldn't resist to see the truth of everything what was happening with sonic since he shadow met. "I always thought knuckles was a bad friend", Sonics father told them serious, Sofia calmed him down: "No, he's a great friend, he's just jealous of you sonic", she explained; sonic turned his serious face to a big smile, his mother was right. Shadow couldn't resist blushing like a tomato and shivering; sonic noticing that just hugged him more and cuddled him.

Sonic and shadow went together to their room and then closed the door. "What a day, but well.. Shadow may I ask you something?", sonic voiced over to shadow, who was lying on his bed. "Uhm sure", he answered; "what is your job?". Shadow was about to faint, what should he answer? He drops his ears and plays with his fingers, somehow he had to tell him something else: "I work in an.. an innocent bar, as waiter", he lied. Sonic raised an eyebrow, if that bar's innocent, then he has nothing to care about. "Sometime I'll visit you brother", sonic says smiling and shadow nods in sarcasm.
