A curious girl had what seemed like a normal day wandering through an ancient forest. She soon found that it is anything but a normal day. She wandered upon old, dilapidated ruins and found herself in a strange place in the arms of an unfamiliar woman.

I'm Sophia.

Before this, I had a simple life as a human. It was a good life, living as an upper lower class kid. You'd think from what my mom complained about that I was an awful child, but I was just a little curious. And mischievous. I didn't really do anything rasher than my usual outings, but you'd have thought the world had come to an end.

It was just a normal day for me. I was wandering about as usual looking to see what hidden treasures lurked deep in the ancient woods. It was this place that my mother complained on and on about whenever I came back. She would always cite the scratches and bruises I would inevitably get from my outings. I knew the dangers of the woods, so I always shrugged off her words whenever I came home.

The soft sounds of the wind echoed lightly through the dense forest as the birds softly chirped in the distance. The warm scent of the season wafted through the air and past my nose. It was a pretty day, honestly. Before I entered the woods, I was admiring the clear morning sky, the sun itself yawning over the horizon. With a smile, I tossed on my pack and curiously waded into the dense underbrush. The short, varied bushes scraped against the hardy denim of my jeans and the sleeves of my jacket as I pushed on through. It was a good thing I wore jeans and a jacket instead of a skirt and short sleeves. The small thorns would have been enough to badly scrape up my legs and arms if it wasn't for them.

As I went further, the trees got bigger and the underbrush became sporadic; only a bush here or there. I could tell the trees were older; not only were they bigger around, they had large growths of moss upon them. The forest floor was matted heavily with leaves from seasons past, their decayed forms softly crushed under my steps. I almost stumbled on the large mossy roots that pushed out from the leaf and fern strewn earth below. I had to quickly grab for the tree so I wouldn't fall! Luckily, my hand stayed firm against the mossy tree. The soft moss felt good under my hands as I sighed and looked around. As far I could see there was tree after tree with no sign of any civilization, new or old. I felt sweat on my face; a few beads slowly traced my cheek. It had been hours since I entered the woods and the terrain was starting to get to me, so I decided to take a break.

I tossed my pack down on the ground and soon joined it. Using the sleeve of my jacket, I wiped the sweat from my face. I was parched and famished after my long walk so I reached into the pack and pulled out my canteen and a few snacks. After a good chug of water, I noisily opened some of the paper-wrapped snacks and began to eat. My long, black hair got in my face as I was eating a granola bar so I gently brushed my hair back with my hand. My ears and shoulders gently held back the cascades of hair as I finished off the bar and moved on to something sweeter: pastries! The strawberry filling of the pastries really hit the spot, especially after the bland granola bar. I would have to thank the pastry chef from my hometown when I return, I thought with a smile.

I let some time pass before I stood up and brushed the forest's decaying flooring off my jeans. After a final sip of water, I repacked my pack and readied myself to travel further in. I continued on, keeping an ear and eye out for any strange sounds or sights. I hoped I wouldn't have to deal with any dangerous wild animals, but those were far and few between in this forest. There was something about this land that seemed to repel the more dangerous animals. That or it made them weary of this place. Still, I kept a small knife in my pocket just in case.

As I continued on, I noticed something in the distance. It looked like it could be some old, mossy rocks from what I could see; trees blocked most of the view. I walked closer, towards it with caution and a curious grin. The closer I got, the less they looked like some old, random rocks; it was part of some old ruins! Finding this out deep in the woods was quite a surprise. With each step on the crunchy forest floor, the rocks grew larger and larger. The rocks were actually marble columns, each of them as big around as a bull. Only a handful of them were still standing, the others fallen over like old, rotten trees. I walked up to the nearest mossy column, one of the many that had fallen over some unknown years - or centuries - ago and looked it over. While worn by time, I could still make out some fluting by the many grooves along its tree-like length. I couldn't help but run a hand along it. The column felt smooth and cool from the shade of the forest canopy above. The columns seemed to lead up a hill and behind more thick, tall trees. This must have looked beautiful after it was built long ago.

I carefully climbed over the column and took a few steps. The forest floor felt weird, almost staggered like broad-stepped stairs. With a few kicks to the leaves and loam, I found that the columns bordered the sides of marble stairs. This just added to my already overflowing curiosity. This had to of lead somewhere. I just knew it. No one builds stairs out in the middle of nowhere leading to nowhere, so I continued on, climbing over column after fallen column until I reached the top of the hill. I was shocked to find a marble structure greeting me over the hill. The main part looked like some column-held roof that was definitely old but still holding in there even after countless years. Columns not unlike the ones I climbed past only seconds ago lined two sides of it. It looked like part of the roof had broken, falling in on the structure, yet the rest of it refused to join.

In front of it and in the middle of the marble path leading to the structure rested what looked like a circular collection of life-sized statues. They were as time-worn as the rest of the ruins but I could make out that they were all women. The statues almost looked delicate from the wear the years gave them. It looked like they were supposed to be pouring pitchers from the remnants of their poses and features, but most of them had lost the marble that made the pitchers long ago to the round pit they encircled. The fallen marble was but mounds in the pit, long since covered by the decayed leaves of many years. Despite the wear, they still felt smooth to the touch.

My attention turned to the large structure behind them. My curiosity pushed any caution I had of it falling on me to the back of my mind. If it had been up for this long, it certainly wouldn't fall just because some girl decided to peek under it. With the fountain behind me, I stepped over the rubble of the fallen portion of the roof. In the middle of the roof-shaded structure I saw a long, smooth, almost table-like slab. It looked much better off than the marble outside, the roof apparently protecting it from the wear the others took over the many years. If it wasn't for the dust and stray leaves, I'd have thought I stepped into some other time. My mind raced at the possibilities of what the table-like slab would have been used for.

A statue behind the table caught my eyes. It was another life-sized statue of a woman. The details were still there as if no wear had even happened to it. It was of a beautiful woman with long, wavy hair who was wearing a beautiful dress. She... it had a warm smile that caused me to smile back politely. The clothing was detailed well in the marble, even capturing the frilly ends of the sleeves and skirt. I took a good look at it and admired the craftsmanship; it was so well done, it felt like it could reach out and touch me at any moment. I found myself wishing I could have someone that pretty. While I liked girls and the other girls my age in town were attractive, they paled in comparison to this statue.

I finally noticed the ears; I was surprised that I didn't notice them earlier. They were different than a human's. While my ears were rounded and at the sides of my head like any other human, this statue had almost triangular ears on top of her head! I mused over the realistic marble ears for a moment. They reminded me of cat ears and looked really, really cute. 'Maybe some ancient civilization worshiped some cat deity of sorts', entered my mind. Curiously, I turned and looked at the fountain statues, my eyes looking for the same feline features. While it was hard to notice thanks to many years of wear, they all had the same cat-like ears. But, that wasn't the only thing I noticed about them. Before, I had only glanced at their worn features. But now, I could make out another interesting thing. They all had a tail like that of a cat. They were all definitely cat girls. I began to wonder what I would look like as one as I turned back to the pristine-conditioned statue.

I stared at it for another moment, wondering if I should touch her... it. I was afraid that if I did touch that statue, she would flinch and pull away from me. It was an odd thought at the time, so I shrugged it off. 'Statues can't move at all', I reassured myself. I reached out and gently touched the soft marble on her... its cheek. It felt cool to the touch like the marble columns and statues outside. It actually was a little cooler than the others thanks to the heavy shade it had. I sighed before I mocked myself for thinking this thing would do anything if I touched it.

Suddenly, it felt warm, like I was touching the soft flesh of another person! It even felt like the proper, soft texture of skin! I freaked out and pulled my hand back. I guess it was enough of a touch to upset the statue because it fell straight at me without warning. I was too taken by the odd sensation I felt, the warmth and soft feeling of the statue, that I didn't notice it until it was too late. She... it practically tackled me and we fell towards the hard, marble floor!

I barely registered the feeling of my head crashing against the marble before I lost consciousness. Before I blacked out, I noticed something strange. Instead of a marble statue, it felt like someone had fallen into me. Soft hands and flesh pushed against me instead of cold marble. The warm smile had changed into a shocked, open mouth. Living, mesmerizing, honey-amber eyes filled with concern looked right into mine. Then all went dark as I felt the embrace of the hard floor.

I came to with the feeling of something warm wrapped around me, against me, gently. I wasn't sure what was going on, but it felt nice, soft and warm against my face. I wrapped my arms around and pulled whatever it is close. It felt like the warmth of bare skin against my cheek. 'Is this another person?' I asked myself. Immediately, as if reminded by the warmth and soft skin, my mind went to the last time I slept with a girl. I opened my eyes to get a look and was greeted by the warm, soft chest of another woman, my face buried gently between them. My own smaller breasts were pressed against her soft belly from our embrace. Her arms were wrapped around me gently, almost protectively. Our legs comingled together as if lovers, soft flesh touching soft flesh. I don't even know who she is, but we seem to be here, together, completely naked save for a warm comforter draped over us. I couldn't help but deeply blush at the intimacy with this stranger. The only thought I had was that she must have brought a large pack to carry something this comfortable.

I couldn't help but wonder what her face looked like so I took a look up at her. She was looking back, smiling down at me being nestled between her breasts. Her eyes were stunning, a honey-like color that made me want to keep staring deep into them. The irises of her eyes were strikingly odd, shaped like vertical slashes instead of a normal circle. Her deep red hair gently draped across her soft face, playfully framing it. I was so taken by the view before I realized something; she looked exactly like the woman... statue that fell on me! I was completely silent, almost holding my breath, as I stared at her. The silence was broken by her soft, beautiful voice.

"It's good to see that you're awake." she said with her warm, smiling mouth. She let out a relieved sigh. I silently nodded before noticing her face wasn't the only thing that was like that statue. Her ears were the same, but of flesh instead of stone. Dark red fur matching her hair graced the back of them. They twitched gently at the slightest sounds in the distance. 'Can this be real?' raced through my mind. No, it couldn't be real. Could it...? There was nothing like this woman in existence, at least not where I came from; the only human-like people that existed across the world were humans! I couldn't help but assume she probably had a tail to go along with her ears.

I worked up the courage to say something, to ask her some questions, before I gently pushed away from her and sat up. I started to speak but my eyes caught the world around us. It looked completely different! I looked past the marble columns and saw a completely different world. I quickly looked around, surveying the landscape behind the pillars with my mouth agape from confusion. The ancient forest that I was walking through, where the ruins laid in slumber, where I was oft to wander, was nowhere to be seen. In its place was a small, ordered collection of young trees. They looked like they were planted in decoration instead of randomly strewn about. Well kempt grass covered the rolling hills where the leaf-strewn, fern-graced forest floor once was. Behind a small assortment of trees in the distance rested what looked almost like a small town. The view was a beautiful sight to behold.

My eyes focused closer and noticed the condition of the marble columns that held the marble roof up with all their strength. They were pristine, as if they were recently carved from the large slabs that made them. Not only that, everything else here looked... new. Looking around the open air structure, I realized we were lying on the table-like slab and felt for the hard stone. My legs already told me what my hands found. We were gently cushioned by what seemed like a thick mattress of sorts that rested upon the slab. I was thankful that the table-like slab was used as some sort of bed instead of one of the many horrible thoughts I had when I saw it. 'Where am I?' I asked myself. It couldn't possibly be the same place... The ruins... That would have been impossible! The ruins must have been there for thousands of years if the forest was any indication.

"Are you okay? You seem confused..." she asked as she sat up and looked at me. Her eyes were filled with what felt like concern. I guess my confused survey of the world around me informed her of my state. She gently wrapped her arms around me, pulling me close in the process. She pulled me back to the soft mattress. "Did that fall hurt you?" she continued. I didn't feel like I had fell, yet I knew that I did. The lack of any noticeable injury did cause me to wonder, but a more pressing question came to mind. I wrapped my arms around her, my head pressed gently against her bare shoulder, and focused again on a question.

"Where are we?" I asked. She seemed shocked, or at least that's what I gleaned from her voice as she spoke again.

"The fall did do some damage..." she said faintly, almost disheartened. One of her hands gently ran up my back. I could feel her gently caressing my skin in the process. Her soft fingers ran through my long, black hair until she reached the top of my head. I was comforted by her touch as she began to gently rub the top of my head. "Although nothing feels broken..." she softly mumbles. I could tell that as well as her fingers gently surveyed my head. It was rather odd that I didn't even have a sore spot from when my head hit the cold marble floor, but the more her fingers explored the more it felt like nothing happened at all.

Soon, she moved to rubbing my ears gently... Wait, that isn't right... She was rubbing my ears, but... The way her hand was laying on the top of my head told me it just couldn't be right, but I distinctly felt my ears being rubbed. I was so confused, so I quickly moved a hand to touch my ears. All my hand found was soft, black hair where my right ear should have been! I moved my hand to where she was rubbing and felt my own gentle, confused touch across my ears. I explored them quizzically. They felt triangular and thin, the back sides covered in soft fur. I gasped as I realized they were like big cat ears!

She must have heard the gasp and patted me on the head. It was comforting, but it still didn't change the fact that I had cat ears. I pushed away enough to look at her in her honey-amber eyes in my confusion. 'How did this happen? Did I become a cat girl?' I asked myself. I had to know if I had a tail. It felt like I did from the strange sensation I had but I had to know. I traced a hand down my side and to my lower back and found the soft, furry base of my tail. She watched as I traced the length of it before pulling it in view. I was surprised by the sensation of it all as I turned to see my black fur covered tail. She pulled me back into a warm, comforting embrace.

"A, am I a cat girl?" I asked weakly. The features I had already told me my answer, but... I felt like I needed someone else to confirm. She went back to scratching my ears gently.

"Why, of course, silly. What else would you be?" she said in such a soft, comforting tone. It, combined with her ear scratching, made me relax. The world I knew, my life, felt like it could have been a dream. I knew that couldn't be true; my life as a human wasn't some dream. She gently pulled me close and back to the warm embrace of the bed.
