Ch14. Planning on going Home...

The celebration went on for a few more days, Blaferis ended up getting second place only because he didn't make it to his finale match since his left arm was badly injured. The two visiting guilds were now getting ready to leave when an urgent gathering was being called. All three guilds were gathering just outside the village to find out what's going on. Shortly after the call Frasit and the other two captains came out and got the anthros settled. Phillip and Padreion was a little late since the boy couldn't move very fast.

"Gradeg of Frozen Claw, Tilid from Wolf Fang, Phillip of Frozen Claw." The boy was now confused when he walked up to the crowd and heard his name being called. "Husvor of Frozen Claw, and last is Ocrim of Wolf Fang."

Hearing the last of the names the Captain dismissed the guilds, Phillip stopped a bear that was next to him. "Excuse me, what was this about?"

The bear crossed his arms and looked at the two. "You don't know?"

"He can't move that quickly and it was short notice." Padreion tried to explain.

"Well, they just announced the new members for Ice Fang's squad one."

"Squad one?" The boy asked again just to be sure he heard correctly, the bear nodded.

"Was my name called, Padreion?" the wolf asked.

The bear shook his head. "Sorry no it wasn't." The anthro turned and made his way back to where his guild's camp is.

Phillip looked over and seen Padreion's ears were against his head so he didn't need to read the wolf to know something was wrong. Phillip slowly made his way to him. "You okay?"

"I was hoping I was going to stay." The wolf whimper.

Phillip wrapped his arms around the wolf as best as he could. "I know, I do too." The wolf hugged back and nuzzled the top of Phillip's head.

"I'm going to miss you." The wolf whispered.

"Me too. I'll get a hold of you somehow." He said when he broke the hug with the wolf and looked up at his face.

Padreion smiled. "You better." After one quicker hug the wolf had to get back to packing the rest of the gear so his guild can start heading home. Phillip made his way to his barracks to see that some of the anthros were packed and already moving to their new room. He walked over to his spot to see that all of his blankets were already gone, he started to panic a little and rushed over to his chest to see that it was cleared out.

The first anthro that walked by him he stopped. "You know where my stuff went?"

The anthro smiled. "Yeah, they took your stuff to your new room. They figured that you were going to need help so they ended up moving your stuff for you."

"Thanks." After getting directions on to where the room was he headed out and went to the barracks next door. When he walked in he saw some of the new anthros walking down the hall, Phillip decided that following them would be best. They lead him to a noisy room, he walked in to see a bunch of Users arguing over something but before he could ask what was going on they all turned their attention to him. Phillip felt like a bunch of predators staring at a pile of meat, and he was the meat.

Gradeg was the first to speak up. "Phillip where do you want to sleep?"

"He wants to sleep near me." He heard from the crowd.

The bear turned and growled. "Quiet, he's going to pick himself."

'So that's what's going on.' "What spots are open?" Phillip asked.

"Well the room is pretty much open except for a few spots but most of us were waiting on you before we chose ours." Tilid announced.

Phillip looked around to see that a few beds were already made. "You know who's bedding that is?" he asked.

"No, they came in and left way before we all got here." Gradeg said.

Phillip walked over and found his new chest with his blankets sitting on top of it. He went over and placed his bedding on the floor where two beds were already made. The moment that his blankets touched the floor everyone in the room started to rush over where he was and try and get the spots next to him. Phillip sat on his stuffed and watched as arguments and shouting started to go off.

"What's going on in here?" A loud roar came over the new squad. Everyone immediately calmed down as Hikrit came walking in with his blankets underneath his arm and his other gear over his shoulders, he glared at everyone while a path was cleared for him as he walked up and stopped in front of Phillip. "Again..." He said in a lower but still as firm tone. "I asked what is going on here?"

Gradeg was the first to speak. "Umm, we were figuring out sleeping arrangements sir."

"OK, is that all?" he looked around to see everyone starting to nod, not happy that the squad was fighting about a small issue. "Fine." He dropped his bedding in front of Phillip and looked around. "I sleep near the boy, those who haven't chosen a spot yet start at rank on far side and work your way across the room." A bunch of groans came from everyone, Hikrit looked down at Phillip and winked at him before kneeling down and fixing his blankets. "Problem solved. Now the fighting will stop."

Phillip chuckled, "Thanks, it was getting a little hectic."

"Just be happy that I came in and not Blaferis. He wouldn't be happy if his new squad was fighting over you."

"So he's the squad leader?" The boy asked.

The horse nodded. "Yep, I'm only second in command but still got some power over this group."

"You know where he is?" he asked.

The horses shook his head while fluffing his pillow. "No clue, probably talking to the Captain about his new position."

"Oh." Phillip said while fixing his blankets but glanced at the bed behind him and the one that will be above his head. "You think that one of these beds belongs to him?"

"Might." The horse placed his last blanket down and seen Phillip barely got his smoothed out. "Need some help?"

"If you don't mind." He responded.

"Give me a sec." The Hikrit finished his bed before moving over and helped Phillip get his bed fixed. "So what are you going to do next?"

"I don't know." He answered truthfully.

"Well I was about to go eat if you want to join me." The horse suggested.

"Sounds good."

............................................

Phillip and Hikrit was about to leave when someone called for his name. The boy turned to see a dog running up to him and holding out an envelope. "This is for you." He said. Phillip took it and looked at the letter to see that it was from a bank. He opened it and took out a debit card.

The horse chuckled and started to walk out of the building with the boy close behind. "Looks like you finally can get some money in your pockets."

"Yeah thanks." The boy joked.

They both had a small talk on their way to the café and sat down when escorted, after they placed their orders Hikrit kept the conversation going. "It's still been a while since we talked." The horse said.

"Yeah, been busy."

"So I've noticed." The horse said and leaned back in his chair. "So how's your family?"

"Umm...my family?" The boy hesitated.

Hikrit leaned forward and stared at Phillip. "You're telling me the whole time you've been here you haven't gotten a hold of your family?"

Phillip looked down at the table. "No I haven't, I've been so wrapped up with everything going on here I guess I forgot to write to them or call."

The horse leaned back in his seat and started to scratch his chin. "Well writing is one thing but it's hard to make a call since we don't use phones or internet unless it's for ordering products that we need."

"Oh, so there's no way to call them?" Phillip asked, he sounded a little down at the thought of not being able to talk to them for a while except a letter that might come every couple of weeks.

"Well if you really would like to, we could always go into town and get you a cellphone. I think they work on this base."

Phillip looked back up at the horse and smiled. "Really, when do you think we can go?"

The horse shrugged. "All depends."

"On?"

The horse grinned, the waitress came by and placed their food in front of them and walked away after they told her that was all. "All depends on if Zach can take us. The rule is that anthros need an escort and since I can't drive a vehicle because I have difficulty and you're too young, he's pretty much the only one that can take us."

Phillip started to eat and laughed. "And we can't take Hounds off the base."

Hikrit chuckled. "Only if a gate is open and we need to get to it quickly."

"So I guess we find them after we get done eating." Phillip started to eat quickly.

....................................................................

Finding Zach wasn't that hard and after a little chat and work the group was in a van heading into town. Phillip looked out the window while stores passed by, he felt somewhat strange coming back to a town where lots of stores and people walking around. Zach pulled up to a Sprint store and the group climbed out. Phillip followed them in and started to look around at all the choices. One of the workers hesitated coming up to them and asked if they needed help. Hikrit was the one who explained that Phillip was looking for a new phone and after a brief argument that the boy didn't need anything touch screen phone or really anything fancy but something to call home Phillip was sighing paper work, setting up an auto pay, and then walked out with a flip up phone in a bag.

Phillip didn't wait to get into the vehicle before dialing his home. He waited three rings the call was answered. "Hello?"

Phillip couldn't help but smile. "Hey James, it's me Phillip."

"Phil? Hey ho...Mom!" He heard him yell.

"Phillip?" he heard his mom.

"Hey mom."

"Oh my god, hey honey. How are you doing? Where you at now?" his mom asked quickly.

Phillip shook his head and chuckled. "I'm doing okay, they got me in Washington."

"Washington? Why so far from home?"

"That's where they wanted me I guess."

"Okay, so when you going to be coming home?"

Phillip glanced over at Hikrit and seen the horse was looking out the window but had a grin on his face. "Umm, I don't know when I'll be able to come home."

"Christmas." Zach said from the front seat.

"I guess Christmas." Phillip responded unsure.

"Ahh, I have to get gifts ready..." his mom started while Phillip took the phone away from his ear as his mom continued to talk. He waited a while and put it back to still hear his mom talking away. "Oh it'll be nice to have the family together, Oh are you going to bring any friends home?"

"I'm not sure if I can bring anyone or if they want to come." He said.

"Well if you do just let me know so I can at least get the house ready."

"Will do, hey I have to let you go for now."

"Okay Hun, love you."

"Love you too, bye." Phillip closed his phone and leaned back in his seat with a sigh. "So I'll be able to go home for Christmas?" he asked.

"Yep," Zach said. "They give us time off so we can go home and visit family and all that, the anthros don't celebrate the holiday that much but they like to join human families."

"You think some would like to come with me home?"

Everyone in the vehicle laughed. Hikrit readjusted so that he was looking at Phillip more. "They all would, so if you do ask then make sure you keep it quiet otherwise you'll get flooded with begging anthros."

Phillip laughed, "Why is it that I doubt you're joking."

"Cuss he's not." Xavier said.

.................................................

They arrived back to base and Phillip and Hikrit thanked Zach for driving them before heading into their Barracks. Phillip walked in and went to his chest and grabbed things he needed for the shower, he took a quick shower before coming back into the room. He looked around and seen that it was mostly deserted except a few anthros that was still putting their stuff away. Phillip put his stuff away before plopping onto his bed, the thought of taking someone with him home was still in his mind. His attention went back to the door as it opened and seen that Scrit and Husvor came walking in. He sat up and seen the two smiled at him, Phillip smiled back and waved for the two to come over, they came up and sat beside him.

"What's up kid?" Scrit asked.

Phillip thought a little more before smiling and looked at the two. "I was wondering if you two would like to come to my place for Christmas?"

Both their tails started to wag. "Sure." Scrit said happily.

Phillip looked over at the Husky. "You?"

"I'd love too."

"Cool, I'll let my parents know."

Scrit was practically bouncing with anticipation. "I haven't been on vacation in a long time, I can't wait to go and see where you grew up."

"Yeah well I wouldn't expect anything special." Phillip warned them.

"Well to see your home and travail is a small treat for us since we're not allowed to leave the base unless it's for official business." Husvor explained.

"So you don't get out much then." Phillip chuckled.

Scrit shook his head. "Nope."

"Well we'll have a lot of time out in my home town then."

"Sounds good to me." The dog said.

"What does?" They heard, Phillip looked up and seen Blaferis was standing in the door way with his arms crossed over his chest.

"Umm..."Husvor started. "Phillip invited us to go with him for Christmas."

Phillip instantly could feel the hurt from the wolf even though he didn't show it. "Oh I see." The wolf said before turning and walking away.

"Blaferis!" Phillip called but the wolf was already gone. He got up and did his best to follow the wolf out of the building, when he got outside the wolf was out of sight. The boy looked around before giving up and walked back into the barracks. He headed back to the two anthros and sat back down.

Scrit placed his paw onto Phillip's shoulder, "Don't worry about him, he'll be back."

For Phillip that was easier said than done, the wolf was all that was on his mind as he lay in his blankets, it was late in the night before he heard the door open and looked over to see the wolf walk in. He watched while Blaferis got undressed and walked over to the bedding that was at the head of his own bedding. Phillip saw the wolf crawl under his blankets before he slipped his own blankets off of him and walked over to Blaferis. He knelt down and moved the blankets to slip under them. The wolf didn't say anything as he watched the human lay beside him and wrapped his arms around the wolf's neck.

"Blaferis..." the boy whispered. "I'm sorry, you have been a good friend to me and I didn't ask you to come with me right away."

The wolf slowly wrapped his arms around the boy and held him tightly. "I know, I guess I was just hoping you wanted to come with you."

Phillip looked up at the wolf and gave him a small smile. "I do want you to come."

The wolf gave the boy a smile back as his tail started to wag, he laid his head over the boy's and held him tighter.

......................................

"Yes, three." Phillip said on the phone.

"Okay, I will have dad take the van then when I pick you guys up at the airport." He heard his brother responded.

Phillip laughed. "Yeah I doubt they would fit into the car. The van would be best unless he feel like making a few trips."

"Yeah, I don't think he will. So everything is going good for you?" Phillip leaned against the window in the room and looked outside across the base.

"Well don't tell mom because I know how she is but I did get into a little accident. I'm in a cast for a little longer but soon I'll be out of it and back to training."

"What? What happened?" His brother asked a little bit louder.

Phillip chuckled. "I was in a race and crashed. Almost got trampled but I'll be out of the cast soon and back to training."

"Well be careful, you know how mom likes to get."

"Yeah, she over worries about me." He responded.

"Can you blame her, you are in a very dangerous military and you could be killed."

"I know, it almost happened." He said softly as he placed his head against the window, the thoughts of the Bragin was fresh in his mind and how Blaferis had to risk his own life to save him.

"What, are you serious?" His brother yelled.

Phillip let out a sigh. "We were in their world and was attacked and I was too scared to do anything, my Junior Lieutenant had to risk his life to save me."

"Dude, you have to be careful. The last thing we want is you to come home in a box." His brother sounded worried.

"Trust me, I know. I just didn't think that they were..." He let out a sigh. "It's complicated."

"Okay, well I'm going to let you go. I'll let mom know to get the spare room ready and the couch."

"Actually, the floor is fine. That's all we sleep on here." Phillip chuckled.

"Damn, brutal." He heard his brother laughed. "Okay, I'll let her know."

"Thanks. I'll talk to you later."

"Yep later." Phillip heard the phone disconnect before closing his and stuffing it into his pocket. He headed out side, even though he still has his cane he is walking much faster than before. He walked over to the training grounds and saw the new squad hard at work to get used to fighting with each other. Phillip found a tree nearby and sat down to watch the group fight against one another. He looked down at his cast that was on his arm, thinking about if he didn't get hurt he would be out there training with the others.

"Mind if I join you?" Phillip looked up to see Husvor standing beside him, he looked out and saw that they were all taking a small break.

"Sure." He responded and watched the anthro take a seat beside him. "I told my family that I have three friends coming home with me."

"And?" the Husky asked.

Phillip smiled. "My brother said that it shouldn't be a problem."

"Good."

"Yeah, as soon as I know when I'm going to be off I'll let my family know so they can pick us up."

The dog nodded. "Sounds good to me, we're going to be flying?" Phillip nodded. "Hmm, never been on a plane before."

"Really?" The boy asked.

Husvor nodded. "Yeah, usually we use the gate or travel by vehicle."

"Then it will be a fun experience for you." Phillip chuckled.

"Guess so."
