[Disclaimer: Originally this was written back in 2000 as a 3rd part to a Monster Rancher series a she-wolf named Blackstar wrote. Ironically, it was her first two parts that lead me to meet her, but sadly very disturbing circumstance has taken her from me and I will not be calling her my mate any longer... To this day I still miss her dearly, and if she reads this, I would like her to know that whatever it was that I did to hurt her it was not my intention to do so. I'm very sorry, Black. I hope you can forgive me. Now, on with the story.]
SHADOW: *Blinks* Umm... Okay..? Anyways I won't spoil it all but this still follows the relationship of Tiger & Genki ^_^;; I dunno if I'll be doing the rest of the series for my Mega-koi but if she wants me too I'll do my best. I'd also like it to be known at this story is dedicated to both Mega and my dear friend Heather, both of whom I owe so much to =)
One important note that I wanna add before the final note is that I've always been a fan of the Final Fantasy game series so you may see some elements from those games come into play in this episode of Exploring New Things.

Exploring New Things part 3

"HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!!" The shouts from Genki caused everyone too shoot out of their sleep instantly; one in particular was so scared that he jumped so high he smacked into a tree branch. "I'm okay.." Suezo grumbled before the same treebranch he smacked into broke off, feel onto his head and knocked him out. "What Valentine Day?" Golemn asked skeptically as he picked up Suezo and set him upright. "Oh ya that's right you guys probably wouldn't know what that is would you?" Genki asked, getting various shakes off the head in return.
HOLLY: What is it?
GENKI: Well it's a holiday, kind of like Christmas... You do know what Christmas is right? *Gets nods so he breathes a sigh of relief* Okay good.
Tiger ahems and raises an eyebrow at Genki who goes all blushie (Heheh I've come to like that word for some reason.. Oh ya the story) and continues. "Well Valentines Day is basically where you show the person or persons you love just HOW MUCH you love them, usually by getting them gifts and such." The brunette winked at Tiger who in turn rolled his eyes but smiled warmly none the less. Hare suddenly jumped on top of Genki, pushing his face into the dirt while a big heart shaped flag (for effect of course) flowed in the wind behind him.
HARE: *Doing a V symbol with his hands while a mad-chibi-Genki glares up at him with one eye* Then I propose in the honor of this new found holiday that we go to the nearest town and celebrate!
MOOCHI: CHI!
HARE: And I think the nearest town is-- *plants both feet on Genki's head while he pretends to use his paws as a telescope. After a moment he points due west*--THAT-A-WAY!
GENKI:...*Eyebrow twitching*... Hare?
HARE: *Blinking then looking down at Genki with politely puzzled expression on his face* Yes?
Genki erupts from the ground and towers over Hare while large flames roar in the background. "PLEASE DON'T USE MY HEAD AS A PODIUM AGAIN!!!!!" Two X's appear to replace Hare's eyes while giant sweat drops appear on everybody else's heads.

Genki neatly flipped over a tree then landed neatly on his skates, still going the direction they were supposed too. "YEEEEE-HAAAAA!!!" Tiger and the others rushed to catch up with the Monster Champ as he bolted toward the large town looming on the horizon, silhouetted by the large glowing sun which was slowly sinking behind it. "Wow.." Holly breathed as she watched various airships landing and taking off from various parts of the city, and judged by the silence around her she wasn't the only one impressed. Suezo's eye had become thrice as large and his mouth had fallen to the ground. Moochi & Hare were starry eyed. Golem was just plain speechless. Tiger on the other hand had padded up to Genki's side and nuzzled the boys thigh. "Pretty isn't it Genki?" The wolf like monster asked so only Genki could here. "It sure is Tiger-kun." Genki said as he placed a hand on Tiger's mane and absentmindedly scritched it.
Minutes later the gang of six had arrived at the city limits and yet again all they could do was stare around. It was still a very odd yet wonderful sight to see monsters and humans other then them finally living together in peace. "So!" Hare grinned as he clapped his hands together and rubbed them vigorously. "We're here what should we do now?"
Holly scanned the city street, which seemed to go on forever, until her eyes settled upon a large and elegant looking restaurant. "Hey we haven't eaten at all today, you guys wanna ch--" Genki, Hare & Moochi were already dashing toward the restaurant by this point. "--eck this place out...?" She looks behind her only to get shrugs from Tiger & Golem.
GOLEM: Golem doubt they serve rocks for Golem to eat so Golem will meet you in city center later.
Holly and Tiger bid Golem farewell for now then went to join Genki and the others. By the time Holly & Tiger had reached them the waiter was already taking their orders.
GENKI: A Hamburger, no pickles, extra bacon!
MOOCHI: Spagehti chi!
HARE: Steak my good man, well done and don't spare the BBQ Sauce!
SUEZO: Roast Chicken!
The waiter nodded and bowed curtly and was about to go when he noticed Holly & Tiger. "Oh hello miss, sir, what would you two like tonight?" Tiger nodded toward Hare. "I'll have what he's having." The waiter nodded again then looked at Holly. "And you miss?" Holly quickly grabbed Genki's menu and skimmed it until she found something she liked. "Baked Potatoes." The waiter gave her a pleasant smile then took all of their menus and went inside. (They were all eating out on the porch)
"Where's Golem chi?" Moochi asked as he tried to spot the stone giant amongst the crowds of people and monsters swarming the street. "He doubted they served stones to his liking so he'll catch up with us later." Tiger said gruffly as he eyed the door that the waiter went through, wanting his food. Suddenly Hare popped with into view with a yell causing Tiger to yell and fall backward, though he instantly recovered and shoved his snarling face against Hare's. "WHAT DID YOU DO THAT FOR!?"
HARE: *Gaping at something over Tiger's shoulder* Oooooohhhh...LOOK!
Everyone turned to see what Hare was so excited about and it was apparent instantly. Marching down the street was a small parade consisting of about six humans and four monsters, all of whom were supporting large banners that stated, "PHOENIX CUP! MARCH 23RD, HERE AT HIGHWIND STADIUM!"
"Wow!" Genki gasped, "A monster battle tournament. And it's next weekend!" Hare was nearly ecstatic. "Ooooh I'm gonna enter! I'm gonna enter! I'm gonna enter and kick any monsters butt that gets in my way of that--" He stopped and nearly cried with joy at the next banner in the parade line, "--ONE-MILLION GOLD PIECES!!!!"
"You should enter too Tiger, that way if Hare loses then we would still have a chance of getting that money." There was a loud thunk as Hare fell backward, dazed.

Dinner arrived three minutes later and was almost instantly scarffed down by the ravenous group. There were appreciative "mmmms" and "aaahs" as they all dug in. By the time they were done Genki & Moochi let out satisfied belches that were instantly frowned upon by everyone else at their table and the ones surrounding. Genki grinned sheepishly in response to this.
"Give my compliments to the chef for me!" Hare said cheerfully as he dished out a few coins from his orange bundle that he always had with him hanging from a stick. He set off after the others, nearly skipping with the joy of finally being able to put his skills to the test in a monster battle after so long. How long had it been since he and Genki had met up? 2 years?.. No it was longer then that.. 5 years.. 5 long and wonderful years tailing the Monster Champ and his friends around the world in search of adventure. Hare smiled too himself then suddenly rushed forward and glomped onto each and everyone of his friends and present before bolting off down the street to meet Golem. Genki's right eye twitches as he watched Hare dart foward then tackle a startled Golem into the fountain he was sitting on, and not soon afterward Golem was flailing his arms and yelling how he couldn't swim despite the water wasn't even three feet deep.

The rest of the night progressed smoothly. Genki and the gang took in as many of the wonderful sights as they could until-- "Hey Genki?" Genki turned and got a present shoved into his grasp by Holly. "What's this?" Holly only giggled and nodded to him to open it. Genki stared at her for a moment before tearing off the paper and looking at what was inside. "Oh wow!" Genki brandished a brand new baseball cap, similar to the yellow one he was wearing now except he was navy blue and had what looked like a metal plate on the front. On the plate was an outline of a gleaming golden phoenix and below it were the letters PHOENIX CUP CHAMPION. Genki positively beamed at Holly and hugged her tightly. He took off his old hat and shoved it into his backpack before placing the new cap on his head. "What do you think?" He asked. It was amazing how much a hat could change his appearance. The hat made him not only look about three years older but about three times tougher as well due to the fact that the phoenix on the hat's front truly glowed orange in the dark. "I also found a place that could put the same color scheme and phoenix design on your wheel shoes if you'd like me too Genki." Holly said tentatively. She knew how much he adored his wheel shoes and she couldn't tell what his reaction would be to asked such a question about changing their appearance.
Much to Holly's surprise Genki unlatched his Roller Blades and gave them to Holly. "Ya that would be awesome! They look a little beat up anyway what with all the battles we've been through." Holly giggled then headed toward the store she indicated. It wasn't until she was out of sight that Genki realized that he needed to get something for Holly to repay her! Without further delay he bolted to the nearest store he could find but to his dismay there was nothing in the store that he thought Holly would enjoy. He went from store to store for about thirty minutes before his eyes came upon something sitting in a window. "Perfect!"
Holly returned to the spot she left Genki about 45 minutes later but the boy wasn't anywhere in sight. "Ohh I hope I didn't keep him waiting to long!" "HOLLY!" Holly turned and saw Genki sprinting up the street toward her with something in his grasp. Her confusion didn't last long as she saw the thing was a wrapped gift bearing her name on a tag. "Oh Genki you shouldn't have!" She said as Genki slumped to the ground, out of breath. Genki grinned weakly and handed her the package. Holly shook it but Genki burst out "NO!" Holly blinked. "I-It's fragile.." The red headed girl blinked again then carefully opened the package. Holly gasped and pulled out of the small box a circular metal pendant that could fit in the palm of her hand. On the front of the pendant was a violet engraving of a symbol that's usually seen on Mystery Disks.
HOLLY: Ooooh it's beautiful! What is it?
GENKI: The shop owner wasn't really sure himself. He said some old hermit found it in a old temple one day then just chose to sell it. I thought you might like it.
Holly beamed and hugged him tightly. "I love it, thanks Genki!" She slipped it around her neck and admired it lovingly. Genki grinned back and nodded.

Nearly an hour later Genki and the others checked themselves into a hotel. Hare & Holly were going to share rooms with each other while the other bunk mates consisted of Moochi & Suezo and of course Tiger & Genki. Golem was much to big so he kindly said he was going to make camp out in the woods surrounding the city. Everyone bid eachother good night, though not before Genki said that everyone could crash in their rooms as long as they want since they were all pretty tired from their few days travel. "Thanks again for the pendant Genki!" Holly said. "Ya Thanks for the pendant Genki!" Hare echoed, batting his eye lashes playfully before quickly shutting the door to avoid getting hit in the face by a pillow. The moment Genko had closed the door behind him Tiger rushed foward and placed his forepaws on either side of Genki's head, pinning him to the door. The brunette blushed as Tiger smiled and pressed his muzzle to his koi's lips and proceeded to kiss him. Genki melted into Tigers kiss and wrapped his arms around the torso of the blue wolf, adding his tongue into the frey to wrestle Tiger's.
After many, many, many, MANY minutes of playing "tongue tag" the couple broke the kiss and gasped for breath. "W-what brought that on?" Genki panted. "That was just for fun. This--" He gave Genki a little lick on the cheek. "is to let you know that I thought that you giving Holly that gift was very kind of you Genki, I'm proud of you."
The Monster Champ blushed and grinned sheepishly at his mate. Suddenly the next thing Genki knew, Tiger had THAT look in his eyes again. "Tiger, now?" Tiger snickered then motioned for Genki to get on their bed. Genki giggled and did so, getting on his hands and knees and raising his rump high into the air. "Okay Tiger go ahead." But there was silence.. "Tiger?" Genki turned his head and saw Tiger smirking at him from the edge of the bed. "What's wrong?"
TIGER: You have no idea how cute you look in that position.
GENKI: *blushing* Tiger...
TIGER: *Giggling and giving his mate's foot a teasing lick* As much as I want to mount you and just pound away at that gorgeous butt of yours for hours to come, I have a better thought. Turn over, lay on your back and close your eyes.
Genki raised an eyebrow but did as he was told. He felt Genki hovering over him and he got the go ahead to open his eyes. When he did so he felt his breath catch in his throat. There, in front of him, was Genki on one knee holding what looked like a specially crafted ring that had a stunning orange-red ruby in the center. "G-G-Genki?" Tiger stammered wide eyed.
GENKI: Tiger-kun.. Ever since we met I've liked you. But it wasn't until recently that I chose to admit it, and the same day you confessed the same feelings toward me was one of the greatest days of my life. You've always been there for me in good times and bad and I hope that's the way it will always be. Because of all of this I only have two things to say to you Tiger of the Wind. Happy Valentines Day Tiger, Will you marry me?
Tiger openly gaped at Genki's proposal.
TIGER: *Thinking to himself* Genki wants to marry...me...? Is..Is he serious...?
It was then he knew.. He knew he truly loved Genki and he would do anything for the boy no matter what it was. "Yes.. Yes Genki I will!" Tiger grinned widely. Genki grinned too but Tiger could tell he was holding back tears. Genki crawled foward on his knees and slipped the ring onto one of Tiger's claws and the second he'd done so the door burst open. Holly, Hare, Moochi & Suezo were standing their beaming.
HOLLY: We couldn't help but here.
HARE: Ya what with us with our ears too the door and all.
HOLLY: HARE!
HARE: WHAT!?
MOOCHI: Congratulations Chi! *Throws confetti over Tiger & Genki*
SUEZO: Ya Congrats kid, didn't know you and Tiger would get together though but I'm happy for the both of yas none the less.
The four interlopers poured into the tiny room and chatted with Tiger & Genki about their engagement for hours until Suezo suggested they finally leave the two love-birds in peace. Tiger & Genki bid the others good night then just snuggled up on the bed, watching the moon through the window. A few minutes later Tiger felt something poking into his flanks and he looked over his shoulder into Genki's blushing face. "Uhh heheh, sorry." It didn't take long to work out what the 'something' was. Tiger grinned then went into a crouch with his tail once again held high. "You feel like going for another round?" Tiger said with a flirty wink. Genki grinned and nodded.
