Great War Part 1
Well I saw I was getting a heck of alot of page views from this site with nothing submitted so I thought what the hell might as well throw something in. This story is a work in progress and if it gets good reviews then I'll continue it so don't be afraid to comment.
"Breaking news, we the rebels of salvatory have jacked the airwaves to bring you the truth. We all know the empire and its evil but we do not know of its founding. After extensive research we now know what happened in the Great War, in which all records were lost. In this time while we still have control we will try to tell the whole truth that our "great" emperor has tried to hide. Our information is sketchy at best so we will bring it to you as it comes."
Long ago, a planet existed that consisted of humanoid life forms. On this world two great nations, legolas and zinnith ruled in harmony. With all species differences emerged between on the planet. Space colonies were an option but it was nature to want to live on solid ground and with other planets not willing to allow colonization the people of this world learned to adapt and live in peace. One scientist however wanted to solve this problem.
The scientist was on his way to Wasteland, the name of the most inhospitable planet in the galaxy. He sat in his chair wondering, "Will it work", he had been working on a process he said would colonize the galaxy. Other scientist laughed him off saying terraforming would never work. The young scientist was determined to see his invention through. "Alert, Alert, change course now", the sirens went off. He was close to Wasteland now and he turned off the warnings. They told him it was suicide to test it on that planet even if it worked his ship wouldn't survive the deadly atmosphere before he could test it. He didn't care the benefits outweighed the cost. The ship creaked and cracked as the atmosphere started to deteriorate the hull, he didn't have long. He went to the belly of the ship and began to activate the machine that lied within. After starting it he left and opened the cargo doors the machine floated in the air and started to activate. It dispensed a blue mist into the air. As the scientist watched it was going smoothly until the warnings went off again. "The hull has been compromised, activating blast doors." "No", he shouted, it was too soon the process was only at eighty percent, it needed to be at ninety-five before it could finish itself. He raced to override the doors and then a loud "BOOM" as one of the engines explodes from the corrosion. Then green flashed from the machine as it got to the needed ninety- five percent and it deactivated. The scientist desperately began to pull up "Five minutes", he repeated, "Five minutes", is what he estimated how long the process would take. Hull integrity fifty percent the screen read, not much time left. BOOM, another engine failure, the ship began to descend and as it fell pieces began to fall off. The ship crashes on the baron surface and he is knocked out.
He wakes up and is in no pain; he looks around and takes a deep breath. He gasps to find that it isn't toxic but fresh air. He takes in another deep breath and yells in excitement and rushes out of the wreckage and into blue skies. The land is still baron but that can change. Later after surveying the land, he sorts through the wreckage and finds the comp- link is still active. On his home planet, the attendant gets up hearing a crackle on the communication relay. No ships are out today except that crazy scientist and he's supposed to be dead, he thought to himself. Until the voice came on, "Mayday, mayday, this is hector of the research ship discovery, my ship is in usable and need assistance." "Hector this is station 1, what is your current location." There was a silence over the speaker, "I thought you'd never ask, my current location is the planet Wasteland." The attendant sat there for a minute, thinking it was a joke, it couldn't be right. "I know it's crazy but I'm not lying, go to the science council and repeat this message to them and they will take care of the rest."
Once the word got out what happened joy spread like wildfire, people were parading out in the streets. Wasteland had its name changed to life for the momentous achievement. Hector, once called crazy and know a genius, was elated at his success. "This is going to change the galaxy", he said.
It will change the Galaxy just at a horrible cost.
