The purpose of this document is to record what has thus far been established in my universe both for me, and for others to refer to when writing stories, or creating other forms of art, and is presented in no particular order (its as organized as my thoughts).

Earth 42 is a world where the population has always been furries of various species, with prey species often dominated by predators in the past before the industrial revolution., Slavery is illegal, although debt slavery which led to the American Civil War and the formation of the FACT was common for a time.

Technology level is approximately that of current real world levels, and the culture is very similar, although obviously there are some differences, since animals would likely have a different set of cultural taboos. Religion generally doesn't carry the weight it does in the real world, having had little place in a world of predator versus prey, although that is changing. Racism, or more correctly, specieism is a more significant if insidious problem.

While generally unions don't exist, there are rtrade guilds, covering all typical areas in our world, and extending into ones that aren't typically unionized. In some fields, there are both, with guilds existing primarily to train people in their field more than providing the kind of strength of numbers that unions do. Therefore skilled trades are often run by guilds, whether you're talking construction or entertainment of any type, while unskilled labor is fairly often unionized.

What is in the real world the United States of America is two countries in this one., the Union of American territories, and the younger by about two decades Free American Confederate Territories. The borders of the UAT is similar to the Eastern US, aside from the fact that what is New Brunswick, Canada in our world, is part of the UAT. The FACT gains the Baja Peninsula, but loses a fair sized piece of southern Texas and possibly parts of its northern border.

The FACT military consists of a national guard that is sub-divided into land, water and air, each operating as a fully independent services beneath a single defensive guard commander, who along with an offensive forces commander direct the military under orders of the president. The guard began as a defensive force land and river force, and remained as such, eventually expanding into the air. The Navy spearheaded the creation of a military force operating beyond the FACT borders, initially providing defense for merchants trading with the young nation. The guard's mission has changed little over the centuries, moving from defending against a hostile neighbor to regulating entry into the country, and becoming more of a police force than a military. Originally they were needed as the FACT was formed from explorers, those searching for a territory of their own, and 'criminals' from the UAT. Many criminals were slaves forced into servitude through dubious legal means that the Confederacy refused to recognize, leading to border skirmishes between them and the Union. With over a century of peace, the need for a guard is now minimal, but its maintained as a precaution. The GROund POunders were derived from the Navy, originating as the boarding parties that would seize unfriendly ships in the high seas, later 'boarding' land based targets. From these beginnings came their motto, 'First to land, Last to stand,' since the ship's crew were usually good only as cannon fodder, so a strong belief in preparation and independence became central to the force. The Air Service was derived from both the GROPO and Naval air services, becoming its own service in the mid twentieth century. The UAT has a structure more like the United States of our world, answering to the premier.

Mice, voles, squirrels, weasels and similar 3 to 5 ft (.91m to 1.52m)

Cats, dogs, wolves, foxes, hyenas, and similar 4 to 6ft (1.22m to 1.83m)

Equines, cervids and similar 6 to 8ft (1.83m to 2.44m)

Elephants, rhinos, giraffes and similar 7 to 10ft (2.13m to 3.05m)

This is a simple list, it gives a conversion chart, use animals of similar size in our world to determine the height of species not listed here.

Time keeping:

Earth 42 has standardized on a simple 13 month calendar basically the same as RL with the exception of a new seventh month, Quintillis, the original name for July before Julius Caesar claimed a month for himself. Months are 28 days except for December which gets 29 except for leap year where it gets 30.
