Earth....2500.... Some say it passed it's prime centuries ago... some say that the human race was already failing before we threw ourselves down the proverbial crap-chute headfirst.
Who am I, you ask? Oh.... I'm the chronicler... no, I won't tell you how old I am, just know, that you won't find any better information than what I will give you... I've been around long enough to know everything about everything out here in the wasteland... so let me give you a bit of history, and don't you DARE be like a child and say you hate history... or I'll tie you down and make you listen.
A hundred and fifty years ago --- yes it was somewhere around the year 2350 that this ruin began --- The Coalition for United Supremacy (CFUS), which at that time controlled over three quarters of the entire land in the world, declared that the remaining countries not under it's control had exactly one year to submit to the ruling of the Coalition president. Failure to comply would result in swift and precise destruction and invasion of each country which did not obey.
The countries of course, saw this as a violation of international treaties, and of their rights to independence. They banded together, though not so much openly, and began to secretly muster their forces.
As the day of their compliance came near, it was apparent that they showed no sign of giving up their precious freedom. CFUS began gathering a fraction of it's considerable military to crush what they felt sure would be a quick rebellion. They were surprised.
Exactly one week before the prescribed date, at midnight, the first nuclear missile impacted Chicago... it was followed minutes later by one in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, London and Rome.
Needless to say, this sparked a global conflict that lasted for nearly a hundred years. Before the year 2390, only half of the Earth's population remained alive... another 10 years of war by the surviving bands of organized military reduced that number dramatically.
It was somewhere around 2410 that the first of the mutations was discovered... a hideous mutilated thing that was assumed to be a byproduct of the radiation bombs that had fallen aplenty. Soon though, it was apparent that while there were freakish mutations of animal life, and they were both docile and aggressive, there were others. These others had at one time been humans... or animals... or were a byproduct of human and animal mating... and had become more. As the years passed they became accepted as intelligent and welcome additions to the remaining humans that lived upon the world.
The world that I now welcome you to has just begun a new century... it's the year 2500, as I said... and life had assumed a somewhat 'normal' pace for the new elite leaders of this ravaged world. If you work for the leaders, or if you are male, you are treated well and accepted... if you are female... I can offer you no hope...
Stay away from the cities, my friends... take care of your weapons and conserve your ammo... you'll need it...
