2:57 PM-

The clock showed 2:57.

But for Dawson, the three o'clock dismissal time couldn't come any sooner.

It was his last class of the day but time seemed to stand still. He turned his cranium slightly to the right as the indistinct vision of his professor became a focused image of what laid beyond the rectangular glass of the window.

He sighed to himself softly, his hoodie overlapping his right paw that was placed just underneath the right side of his jaw.

The small frozen tears were falling gracefully from the earth's atmosphere, seeming as though they were dancing on their way down to the earth's bitter surface. Winter had it's toll on the small town of Ayden, North Carolina. The white powder had now created patches of small ice crystals along what was left of the grass. It was his favorite time of year, he loved the coolness and dimness of what winter brought to the town.

"Dawson?... DAWSON!" the fox called out, noticing him drifting off from the speech she was giving about the classes new English project. Dawson perked his right ear hearing the teacher call out his name rather loudly, sending a small shiver of nervousness down his body. "Daw..." before she could get his whole name out the whole class jumped from their desks and rushed out of the classroom; leaving the perky slim professor to only flail her black paws above her head letting an exaggerated "humph" escape her as she grabbed her bags and fled the room frustrated.

The room was clear now, except for one unparticular German Shepherd. His name was Kaiser, a partially new canine attending the college. His family had moved to Ayden for his mother's new real estate job. He had became one of Dawson's closest friends, their first meeting in the hallway when Dawson needed a question answered about where one of his classes were located.

The German Shepherd, although a grade above Dawson; had always been friendly to him considering Dawson was just a freshman. The G-shep approached the smaller husky with a warm smile on his face, "You know, the teacher's really going to get you one day if you keep drifting off to la-la land in the middle of class," he let a minute chuckle escape from his lips.

Dawson turned to face him, looking up at him with a small faint smirk that seemed to be counterfeit, "She's crazy enough anyway, to be honest..." he paused for a moment, "She scares me at moments," the two laughed as they made their way out into the coldness of the world.

3:04 PM-

Dawson had always felt something in the pit of his stomach when he was around with Kaiser. What it was? He really didn't know how to interpret it yet. He'd always felt a diminutive feeling of attractiveness to the other. But most of the times, he pushed that thought aside. I mean, really; it was his best friend by the way. Who had always keep him company, and helped him with any problems he ever had since they meet.

Kaiser threw his head up to view the grey scaled skies above him, small flakes of snow falling atop his face. "Ugh, sometimes I wonder why my parents moved here," he shook his head slightly bringing his head back down, "I miss the sun and warmth of the Zona," he laughed a small bit. Dawson chuckled softly as he looked up into the skies, "I love the winter time here, there's something about it that makes me happy," he smiled as he turned his attention back to the larger male walking beside of him.

The cars began to bustle about in the parking lot as worried students had became aware of the now sodden roads, beginning to become frozen over with small crystals. The two continued walking down the sidewalks, as they watched the vehicles. "I'm so glad we only live a few blocks away from the college," Dawson muttered from himself.

The community was small; most houses were located only a few blocks from the campus, including Dawson's and Kaiser's. Actually, their houses were just separated by three houses in-between.

3:09 PM-

The snow had began falling a lot heavier now as they were approaching their houses. Dawson couldn't help but to stare at Kaiser at sudden moments. In admiration. His attention was now in another world of his own mind, the now ashen covered sidewalk he was strolling on has became a bit more icy. He suddenly felt his right shoe slip from underneath him. He began to fall backwards towards the icy cement, closing his eyes and clenching his teeth together bracing for the impact. But in that moment of shutting his eyes, he felt himself stop just before he was about to hit.

He opened one of his eyes and released his teeth from baring down on each other. He saw Kaiser looking down at him with a smirkish smile across his maw. "You ought' to be more careful you know?" He chuckled before raising Dawson back up to his feet in his arms. Dawson tried looking away as a blush scurried itself across his face.

He smiled as Kaiser held him in his arms for a swift moment, warmth overcoming his body before the wintry draft took it's place as he released him from his grip.

They stopped as they fronted Kaiser's house. Dawson wrapped his arms around Kaiser speaking in a some what sarcastic tone. "Thanks for saving my life back there," he laughed. Kaiser could only laugh with him as he embraced him in his arms, holding him close once more.

As they released each other Kaiser made his way up the staircase venturing into the home. Dawson watched but finally snapped back into reality as a chilly current of air blew through his grey and white pelt. He sighed softly to himself, beginning to make his way onward toward his home.

3:13 PM-

He didn't like thinking of it as his home.

His mother had left his father a year ago. Getting left behind with his father. Of course, he didn't mind it. But his father acted a lot different than he use to. All he did now was drink, spend his times at bars, and find useless sluts for entertainment, bringing them home late at night from his bar runs. He never paid much mind to Dawson, the only time he did was when he was drinking and got a sudden rupture of rage.

Usually this winded up in Dawson being yelled at and physically abused. But deep down, he tried to believe somewhere in his father's heart he still loved him, no matter what.

3:15 PM-

He made his way up the small staircase leading onto the porch's deck, in which he resumed to the door placing his right paw on it turning it gently. A scent caught him by surprise, but it was an all so familiar tang. It was the aroma of alcohol.

He flattened his ears to the bottom of his cranium as he made his way in, taking off his hoodie and placing it down, laying it across a small coffee table near the door. He shifted his hues around for slight moments, wondering if his father was awake. He began making his way into the living room, vigilantly.

"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!?"

3:16 PM-

All the sudden Dawson was propelled upward by his father, aligned with the wall encasing the undersized living room. His father being of a wolf. He was rather bulky, a dimmer shade of grey, black outlining fractions of his pelt.

Dawson's hues locked onto his fathers, filled with fret. "I...I've been in classes, dad." His ears stayed pinned to his cranium, his heart feeling like it was about to disintegrate inside his cadaver. He felt his backside glide across the wall before he found himself being thrown onto the hardwood flooring.

He landed with a thud that echoed itself throughout the undersized home. His father stood above him, looking down at him with that inebriated look Dawson had always loathed.

Dawson could only look back up at him, his sky blue hues locking onto his fathers for a split second.. what seemed like an eternity. He turned his head as tears began fleeing from his eyes, slowly sneaking their way downwards towards his cheeks.

He turned his cranium one last time, looking over his dad before shaking his head in indignity. He quickly picked himself up, running towards the door as he swiped his hoodie off the small counter near the front door.

He latched his right paw onto the handle as he turned it, bounding himself out into the wintry wonderland the small town had became. He slammed the door behind, thoughts tracing through his mind wildly as he began walking down the sidewalks.

3:21 PM-

He finally slipped on his hoodie, wrapping his forepaws around himself.

He was silent, the town was silent.

His breath became visible every time he exhaled, carefully choosing his steps not wanting to collapse onto the icy pavement. He continued his way on for a few more blocks, before he found himself stumbling upon the community park, not a single soul insight.

His cranium hung as he gazed at the icy pathway below his feet, finally coming upon a bench settled slightly underneath a tree. He huddled himself up trying to keep himself warm, a soft sigh escaping from him as thoughts traced through his mind.

Why? Couldn't he just have a normal life? No..nothing is normal, not in his world.

He shook his cranium, a minute growl erupting deep from within his throat. Minutes passed what seemed to be hours, his limbs becoming numb from the wintry draft.

3:36 PM-

"Dawson?" The words hitting his audits with that soft tone that was too familiar to him.

3:42 PM-
