#7 of Human Origins

Luxikam tells the truth about his past to Syreth, and Syreth admits to Luxikam his feelings.

Ugh, pneumonia is the worst! But it shall not keep me from writing! So here I am with, the next story of my series. I hope you enjoy and comment! ^_^

(Syreth's view)

"So what is it that you want to tell me?" I said as I pushed myself further underneath the covers.

"Well, I think you should know the truth..." Luxikam slowly sighed.

"The truth?" I guess I should have expected as much coming from a wolf that jumped from a cliff to help a crying little human only 2 days ago.

And yet here I am, having only spent a little bit of time with the big furry guy. Not only do I trust him completely, but I already have a crush on him. What's the worst that he could tell me?

"Yes, the entire truth." Luxikam said, getting up from the bed and walking over to my window.

After taking a few moments to breathe in some fresh air from the pleasant breeze outside, he closed the window, picked up the candle that was on the window seal, and walked towards the nightstand next to my bed.

Picking up a match, and using it to light the candle, Luxikam sat the new, warm, source of light on my nightstand and sat down on the edge of the bed.

He reaches into his pocket and takes out a piece of neatly folded paper.

"Here, this should explain where I come from pretty well..." Luxikam said facing away from me.

I have no idea what this letter could hold, and I'm a bit afraid to read it.

Luxikam just sits there, completely quiet, staring out the window.

His ability to remain so calm, makes me feel uneasy at first, but the more I think about his reaction, the more that calmness spreads onto me.

"Maybe it's just because what I'm about to read isn't nearly as bad as I think it is..." I reason, but then again he must have had a reason to lie to me in the first place.

Regardless, all my question's will be answered when I read this letter.

"Dear General Agnew, as you know, my husband, King Manton is seeking another term as Alpha for his current one is coming to a close. I am already very concerned about what kind of influence he has on our son, Prince Luxikam. Due to his tyranny and malice, I am sorry to alert you that I must depart with my son elsewhere, for our own safety.

In my absence, I present to you this entry of my diary. It is my hope that you use this summary of my husband's personality to prevent him from receiving another term."

Your's truly,

Queen Neyra

My Husband's Notorious Misuses of Power:

He was truthful, dependable, trustworthy. He was honest, fair, and legal. He was the man I've come to love, Manton. But he was corrupted... yes, he was corrupted by his own heart...

It all started with that case, that simple case.

Manton used to be the head judge in the UWC, (United Wolfkin Committee). He was widely respected by the people as well as the other members of the committee. He was, after all, the highest ranking judicial officer in all of Ashtar.

After so many cases being ruled fairly underneath his belt, he was given one of the most important cases in our history. It would also mark the beginning of the military regime.

It was a relatively simple case, three male humans were over our border. At the time, there were peaceful conditions between our species, so this in itself was no offense.

However, during the short time they were on our territory, they captured a female werewolf, and brought her over to their territory. They then stripped her naked, raped her, and then left her alone in the forest.

She somehow made her way back to the border, told the guards all about her encounter with her attackers, and after awhile they found them still over in our territory, drunk in a bar. The woman's name was Miracle, and her trial was aptly named, "the Miracle Case."

Although the crime did take place in human territory, or Bluemoon, as their kingdom was called, since the criminals were apprehended in Ashtar territory, the trial would take place in our court.

This was the beginning of the end for them.

I suspected Manton to have manipulated the trial from the very start. For some reason unknown to me, he had a severe dislike of humans. This was manifested in past trials involving humans, but no one has noticed since their species were always the guilty party.

Still, this trial was against them, in major ways.

There was no jury for this trial, only a few observers. Manton and the 4 other judges on the UWC would declare the verdict.

The 3 human criminals, did not have a lawyer either, so one was appointed to them. Arthur Rehnquist, a inexperienced lawyer was his name. This was his first and last case as a defense attorney.

It was relatively quick, given the circumstances. Arthur was unable to present any evidence to prove the rather silent defendants innocent, and Miracle giving a dramatic testimony of her tragic experience, persuaded the judges to rule in her favor.

5 to 0 in favor of guilty, the 3 defenseless criminals were sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Manton however, wanted a more severe punishment, and not very long after the trial, scheduled with the UWC, to discuss such a proposal.

However, before the meeting was to happen, a large amount of gold, for the purpose of bail was acquired from the families of the young men.

While the rest of the judges agreed to accept the money in turn for the criminals, Manton insisted that they don't. 4 to 1 however, his word simply did not stand.

The bail was accepted, and the humans released.

Manton was enraged that they were released just for monetary value. I remember him clearly yelling in our bed; "HOW DARE THEY SETTLE FOR GOLD FOR THE PRICE OF A WOMAN'S VIRGINITY!"

He tried to get another trial, but the UWC refused on the principle of double jeopardy. The words echoed in his mind as a fellow judge read directly from our kingdom's book of law.

"Every accused person has a right to a fair trial, which includes the right ... not to be tried for an offense in respect of an act or omission for which that person has previously been either acquitted or convicted ..."

And so began, the change in my husband...

"The rest of the paper, it's gone?" I said.

"I never saw the other half of the paper, General Agnew, or my mother, ever again after that letter was written. I'm pretty confident however, that it was never released to the pulic." Luxikam responded, laying back onto the bed. "I was just born around that time, and even now Manton is still king."

"So... if your a prince, why are you here?" I asked giving the letter back to him.

"Because I was exiled by him, and that's when I ran into you."

"But why wait to tell me this now?"

Luxikam sighed before resonding again, "Well, I did feel ashamed of myself. I never really experienced love from my mother, and certainly not from my father."

Luxikam paused for a second and looked towards me. I wasn't sure what he's going to say next, but it's definitely sincere. Those shimmering silver eyes tell me that.

"Syreth," he started. "I really appreciate your personality... Your.. so submissive, humble, and innocent... When I left Ashtar, I felt worthless. Like all the training, physically and mentally just wasn't enough for me to impose my new ideas, my personality. But when I met you out there in the forest, I felt a overwhelming power of sympathy. During the short time I was with you Syreth, you made me feel powerful, confident in my own abilities and feelings... and I thank you." He finished, turning his face away from me and rubbing his shoulder with his paws.

I chuckled to myself, grabbing his attention.

"What's so funny?" He asked, trying to suppress his blushing, which for the first time under all that fur, I significantly noticed.

"Well, I should really be thanking you, Luxikam. I was really dependent on my original parents... they did everything for me. When I was adopted by my new foster parents... I was forced to do things on my own, and felt so helpless. But then, you came along, and reminded me of what it's like to rely on someone, to trust them instead of always trusting yourself."

I paused and psyched myself up for what I was about to say.

"Luxikam..."

"Yes?"

"I-I love you... I want to stay with you... please. I know your a exiled prince, and feeling sorry for yourself, but your such a great guy. I realize that I still need to rely on someone, I'm just not able to stand on my own. You give me purpose, and I want to help you... Please, will you accept me? I need someone like you."

Luxikam said nothing, and stood up with his back turned to me. I was about to cry, but before I did he asked a simple question. "Are you sure you want me to fulfill this role? I am a werewolf, a entirely different species from you. You know I'm exiled, so if I ever run into my fellow wolfkin, they are going to target anyone who's with me, especially humans since they would view that as treason."

"Y-yes, I'm aware of all the risks and possible consequences, but I know I'm not the self-dependent type. I need you, and I'm willing to make any sacrifices with all my heart." I replied.

"I'm glad you do." Luxikam said as he put a claw upon my face, and trailed one of his paws down my back. "I'm willing to do anything to have you with me too."

It was a explosion of peace and serenity, as his lips met mine. The true meaning of life, the love and utter wonder on both of our faces, hoping that this night would never end. I know that at the same time, I could be putting myself at risk, and he did too, but I didn't feel that. I felt secure, with him holding me in his arms, the love felt so much stronger even though we had just confessed our feelings for each other, it felt so deep already despite such a short amount of time.

That kiss; hard, but soft; fiery but cool; a split second but also forever. In that one kiss, I then knew what was behind the smile Luxikam gave me, the true feelings of my big furry friend, and it made my love for him grow even more...
