Chapter 16: outbreak part 1
Chapter 16 is where we will get to know the city ship better. The dark master had managed to get aboard the mighty vessel and began plotting on the thought of making it his new fortress. Galinoth arrived and fought the dark master, but failed. The dark master then turned his attention towards spyro, Cynder and Naomi. Just as he was about to land the killing blow, Galinoth killed him, but at a great cost.
Chapter 16: Outbreak part 1
Naomi quickly rushed to Galinoth's limp and lifeless body to see if he was alive. She checked to see if he had a pulse, he did but it was very weak.
"Is he all right?" Cynder asked. She was upset as well.
"We need to get him to the nearest medical bay quickly!" Naomi shouted.
"The nearest medical bay is 5 levels up." The electronic voice said.
"Initiate emergency medical transport, lock on to all life signs in the room and transport on my mark!" Naomi ordered.
"Target locked, all life signs ready for transport." The voice said.
"Mark!" Naomi said. They disappeared in a cascade of white light.
Meanwhile the other dragons had split up to explore the rest of the city ship. Cyril had the north part of the ship, ignitus had the east part, Terrador had the south and Volteer had the west. It had been an hour since the group had split up, and already they had found things that have amazed them beyond belief. Ignitus had found at least two areas loaded with those shuttles, Terrador found what seemed to be the main control room, Cyril had found several ZPM storage units. Volteer was entering a strange room; it was filled with weird instruments, there were shelves filled with bottles of strange liquids and a red door with a sign above it saying *authorized personnel only*. Just as he was about to leave a white light appeared in the middle of the room. As it faded he saw Spyro and Cynder and their friends. He then noticed that they were upset. He saw why, Galinoth had been mortally wounded.
"We need to get him hooked to one of these machines, and quickly!" Naomi ordered.
"What happened?" Volteer asked.
"It was the dark master, he did this." Spyro replied.
"Where is he?" Volteer asked.
"He is dead, hopefully for good." Cynder said.
"Dead, but how?" Volteer asked.
"The dark master was about to kill us when Galinoth lashed out with a spear of pure white light, the dark master tried to attack, but to no avail, Galinoth killed him out right." Cynder said.
Naomi had managed to get Galinoth hooked up to what she called a life monitor; she explained while she was attaching it to Galinoth that it monitors a person's heartbeat. When she had it hooked up a constant beeping emanated from it.
"Is that bad?" Volteer asked.
"It's very bad." Naomi replied. She quickly grabbed one of the bottles and drew a needle from the drawer next to Galinoth's bed. She stuck the sharp end through the lid and drew some of the liquid out. She then stuck the sharp end into Galinoth's arm and injected him with the liquid.
The beeping began to slow down until it was at a pace in which Naomi seemed happy with.
"Is he going to be all right?" Volteer asked.
"To be honest, I really don't know." Naomi said in a low voice.
But then an alarm began to blare and the electronic voice was saying something.
"WARNING, VIRAL OUTVREAK DETECTED, INITIATING CITY WIDE LOCKDOWN."
All the doors around the medical bay clanged shut as the city began the lock down.
"Naomi, what's happening?" asked a frantic Spyro.
"There is a viral outbreak that must be a very nasty one to cause the city to go into lock down." She replied.
"How long will the lock down last?" Cynder asked.
"It will stay in effect until the virus is eradicated." Naomi replied.
The electronic voice came back and this time it worried Naomi, for the thing it was saying was rare.
"ACTIVATING LEVEL 5 COUNTERMESURES!" it said.
"What is level 5?" asked spyro.
"The worst of the worst, it means that the virus is a flesh eater." Naomi stuttered.
"Flesh eater?" Volteer asked.
"It's a biological weapon that one of our enemies employs; it kills within minutes of contact." Naomi replied.
"How safe are we?" Cynder asked.
"I don't know, I will have to locate the source of the outbreak." Naomi replied.
It took Naomi several minutes to determine the source of the outbreak.
"We are quite safe here, the outbreak originated 20 levels below us, the other dragons are safe as well, and they are nowhere near It." she said with a sigh of relief.
"That is good, but where exactly did the outbreak occur?" Volteer asked.
"The schematics I have stored in my armours buffer say there is nothing there, let me see if I can get the specs for this city." She said.
It took another few minutes for that.
"It says here that the room where the outbreak was detected is a viral re-search lab." She mumbled.
"A what?" Volteer asked.
"A viral re-search lab, my people used to field viral weaponry as well, but we stopped not long after the commission of viral weaponry because we did not think that everyone on a tainted planet should suffer because in most cases, its only part of the planet's population that is tainted." Naomi replied.
"I see." Volteer said.
Then another alarm began to blare.
"WARNING, POWER SURGE DETECTED IN POWER CONDUIT C-45B ON DECK 24." The electronic voice said.
"What is the cause of the power surge?" Naomi demanded.
"CAUSE OF POWER SURGE IS UNKNOWN AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME, ANALYSING DATA, PLEASE WAIT."
Seconds later the voice returned.
"MOST LIKELY CAUSE IS THE POWER CONDUIT IS DAMAGED, BUT DATA SUGGESTS SABOTAGE IS THE CAUSE, MAKING FURTHER ANALYSIS OF DATA." It said.
"What is sabotage?" spyro asked.
"It's when an enemy agent infiltrates a base or ship and damages it to hinder or destroy his objective." Naomi replied.
"I see." Spyro said.
Just then the electronic voice returned.
"ANALYSIS COMPLETE, DURING THE CITIES HIBERNATION, CONDUIT C-45B CORRODED, IT WAS ONLY RECENTLY IT STARTED TO BREAK DOWN COMPLETELY."
Then the alarm blared again.
"POWER OVERLOAD IMINENT!" the voice said.
"Re route power from the damaged conduit to a secondary one!" Naomi ordered.
"UNABLE TO COMPLY, ALL SECONDARY CONDUITS IN THAT AREA HAVE BEEN DAMAGED." The voice replied.
"Cut power to that deck then!" Naomi ordered.
"THAT FUNCTION REQUIRES LEVEL 4 SECURITY CLEARENCE, PLEASE STATE SECURITY CODE." The voice said.
"Security override SIGMA-675VDF!" Naomi shouted.
A few seconds later the voice returned.
"CODE CONFIRMED, CUTTING POWER TO DECK 24." It said.
It took several minutes until the voice returned.
"POWER HAS BEEN DISABLED ON DECK 24, OVERLOAD AVERTED." It said.
"That was close." Cynder sighed.
"What would happen if the power did overload?" Volteer asked.
"That deck would obviously lose power, and the conduit could have blown up." Naomi replied.
Just as Spyro was about to talk, the room was rocked by a huge explosion.
"WARNING, POWER CONDUIT E-12A ON DECK 30 HAS OVERLOADED AND EXPLODED." The voice said
"How come this overload was not detected?" Naomi asked.
"SENSORS IN THAT AREA ARE DAMAGED, THE OVERLOAD WAS UNDETECTED." The voice replied.
"Damn it!" Naomi shouted.
"WARNING, QUARANTINE HAS BEEN BREACHED, INITIATING FINAL COUNTERMEASURE." The voice said.
Then a deep alarm sounded. This caused visible fear in Naomi.
"Oh no......" she stuttered.
"What's the problem?" asked Volteer.
"It's the last resort countermeasure; we put in place on all our ships, its used to make sure the virus cannot spread and at the same time to prevent the enemy from capturing our ships." She replied.
"Yes, but what is it?" Volteer persisted.
"It's the self-destruct protocol." She replied.
Well that is chapter 16.
Will they be able to stop the self-destruct?
