Desert Time

Lost
in an arid, barren
wasteland Abandoned
Caravan long gone
For a moment
I glare
into the blazing
midday sun.
The world
becomes-fire!
Metallic saliva
runs down my
throat, my
mouth is a burlap
sack.
Just ahead I
ignore the cool,
refreshing oasis.
It's not the first time
I've seen it.
Time Passes
Continuing on through
sheer exertion
of will.
It is futile
to carry on But
to stop is to die!
In this Desert
most uncaring
Heat cooking my soul
as though I were
in a giant
frying pan.
Nothing here
exists without being ruthless
in the utmost.
Time Passes
Before sundown,
The bones of another
traveler is the last
thing I see
Sun-bleached bones
the final part of the body
to decompose
The vultures,
they take the choicest bits
And
Leave the rest
Like the bones
I
Must Persevere!
I
Must See
the true oasis!
