In the world of Novious, chaos has erupted. The village of Moon Hollow used to be a peaceful place, but recently the lupine people have attacked. Houses burn, people are slaughtered, and the sounds of battle echo out into the woods surrounding the village as a few of the farmers attempt to fight back.

The lupine General, Jericho, walks through the slaughter, his four guards flanking him. A single human boy, standing with a sword, stops the trek of the General and his four guards. "Stand aside, men," he orders the guards. "I'll handle this."

Drawing his sword, the large and brutal looking blade glinting in the fire light, General Jericho grinned down at the boy. "I won't let you get away with this!" the boy shouted. "We were peaceful, trading with the lupines. You can't do this!"

Jericho laughed for a moment, even as tears began streaming down his face. "Even after three of you humans kidnapped, raped, and murdered my granddaughter, right before stringing her to a tree by her hair?" the General demanded. "The letter pinned to her chest, saying exactly what they had done, made my blood boil. I am the patriarch of the western lupine packs. After finding that sight outside my village's walls, we marched to war."

He took the first attack, the savage blade in his hands easily knocking the child's sword to the side. The boy countered, spinning and swinging out at the large wolf, grazing his abdomen and drawing blood. The wolf growled, pressing his off hand to his fresh wound, realizing that this boy had more skill than anticipated. There would be no underestimating him this time.

General Jericho bore in at the boy, driving his blade downward, forcing the boy's into the dirt. Then it was a matter of one swing, directly at the boy's now exposed body. However, the child released the blade and attempted to jump back at the last moment, the blade cleaving through the skin on his chest before slicing up his cheek and across his left eye, permanently blinding him.

"Bryn!" another small voice shouted. Jericho turned to see a small human girl run to the boy's side, cradling his head.

"Sis," the boy hissed in pain, as he looked at her through his functioning eye. "Run, get out of here!"

Jericho stared down at her, thoughts spinning in his head. "Bah!" the old wolf rumbled. "Guards! Grab the girl! But leave the boy to his fate."

Two of the guards jumped to answer the order, immediately. Bryn attempted to sit up, only to further tear his wound. As he yelled in pain, anyone who might have helped him was either dead, or going to be, so he was forced to watch as his sister was dragged away by two large lupine soldiers. A pleasant thought briefly passed through his mind. He had tried his best. That thought was quickly soured as a second passed through. His best wasn't good enough.

In that instant, Bryn steeled himself, deciding that he would save his sister, no matter how long it took or much pain it was going to require. Just as he was about to pass out from blood loss he heard the General yell, "We're leaving!" Then the world faded into blessed darkness, silence, and numbness.
