#16 of The Silver Dragon

Hello people! Well here it is, I wasn't planning on writing due to a large amount of last minute ART hwk I'm surpossed to be doing, but who does that stuff anyway? ;) Yeah so anyway credit to artist of pic and please point out any mistakes in the comments, it makes the world a better place. :P

Thank you and I hope you like it.

A beam of sunlight shone through the cave and onto the spot where Sky and his dragon companion were sleeping, waking him up. He opened his eyes slowly and took in his surroundings, it was just a dimly lit, damp cave with soft moss growing all up the rocky walls.. He felt a weight on his chest and looked down to see Silver's head on his chest, snoring loudly with a cute look on his face.

The boy chuckled as he rubbed his hand through the dragon's messy hair, slowly stroking him. He could hear a low purr coming from the unconscious dragon. He blushed as he realised what he was doing and quickly took his hand away. He could feel his heart beating fast and he didn't understand why.

He tried distracting his thoughts but all that came to mind was the sleeping dragon in front of him, it didn't help that he was laying on him either. His thought finally did refocus onto something else; it was his bladder screaming at him for release. He couldn't get up though and he didn't want to wake his friend up either. But his bladder wasn't going to have any of it.

So he reluctantly devised how he was going to wake his friend, he didn't want to be rude or anything. He tried shaking him, and whispering in his ear, but neither worked. So he went with the option of reaching under Silver's arm and tickling him until he woke up.

The dragon starting quietly giggling and then it turned into loud laughter. Sky didn't stop however; the dragon's laugh was too cute to stop now! He was fully conscious now and rolling around laughing, he was breathing heavily but he wasn't stopping now! He managed to get a couple words out between the laughter,

"HAHHAHA-PLEAS-MWHAHHHAHA-STOP-HAHAHHAHHA!"

Sky stopped soon after and was left with a heavily panting dragon lying beside him. He put on a cheeky grin and turned to his breathless friend.

"Good morning!"

Silver turned and looked at his smug friend,

"HAHA very funny." He said with very obvious sarcasm.

"I thought so." The boy replied and got up from the bed. "I'll be back in a little while; hopefully you'll have caught your breath by then!" He shouted with another grin while he was leaving the cave.

The human got further and further away until it the dragon was left alone in the cave.

It was a lovely morning, the sun was shining through the gaps between the leaves of large trees towering above, birds were chirping happily to each other, going about there business and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. It was one of those days were you felt like laying on a grassy patch, beneath the shade of a tree and lazily watch the day go by . Unfortunately Sky's bladder had other plans.

So he ran toward the nearest tree to relieve himself. When he had finished he walked to a nearby river and washed his hands and face, the water was surprisingly cool despite the warm weather today. It was great, everything was great. It was just a day where it felt like nothing could go wrong and it was a refreshing feeling for him.

He had thought that running away was a bit sudden, and could maybe have some repercussions, but he went along with it anyway because he would have been much unhappier without his dragon friend with him. But he was glad he did, because right here, right now he was happy. Not just a silly "Oh I'm so happy its sunny!" kind of thing but a true feeling of happiness, one that can only be found after many hardships.

He wiped his face and continued walking for a while, taking in the fresh air and warm weather with a silent smile on his face. There was a quite dense forest surrounding the cave and river, making it hidden from sight and a good place for them to be. He just hoped the news hadn't said anything else to make Silver's life harder; he didn't want his friend to be in any danger.

He found himself in front of a patch of grass under a fruit tree and decided to take a break and have a snack, so he grabbed the lowest branch and pulled an apple off it. It was ripe and quite soft to the touch, and was coloured a dull red. He sat below the tree and bit into the apple; it was soft, juicy and a well needed snack for him.

Once he finished greedily devouring the apple he laid back against the trunk of the tree, getting comfortable. He looked up through the treetops and into the fluffy, white clouds above. He couldn't help but get lost in his daydreams; the clouds were all different shapes and sizes and some even resembled objects, one shaped like a flower sparked his attention. And he couldn't help but laugh to himself of how real it actually looked.

His mind then turned to Silver. He turned to an empty space beside him and couldn't help but feel sad that he wasn't here. Was it weird that he missed him already? He wanted him to be beside him, eat the tasty fruit with him and laugh at the clouds with him. He didn't want to feel this way on such a glorious day so he decided to get his friend.

"It'll be loads more fun if were both here!" He reasoned, and sprung upwards.

So with that resolve he ran back up the trail, past the river and toward the cave. He couldn't wait to explore and have fun with the dragon. There was so much more fun to be had together! A smile stretched across his face as he picked up the pace and the cave was within his sight.

Silver was folding up the sleeping bag and sorting out there belongings alone in the cave while awaiting his friend's return. He felt a little worried, and sad. He wanted the human to be back soon just to assure him he wasn't in any danger- he did have a knack for attracting trouble to himself. He just shook it off and put all the stuff away; all accept the picture they took of them.

He smiled whenever he looked at it, all the memories of when they first met and from then after shot up in his head whenever he looked at it, the good and bad. Though it's only been a short, it feels like he's known the boy for a life time. He always wondered if this is what normal friends are like; always want to be around each other, but since he didn't have any other friends to compare the feeling with he didn't know.

Not that it bothered him though, all he needed was his best friend and everything was great! They could do so much when Sky returned. The first on the list is to go exploring nearby; maybe find somewhere nice to have a snack before doing something else. Then later they can just talk for a while and make some dinner. To most that probably sounded like a dull, normal day but Silver saw it as a great day with great company.

"Great, now I'm back to waiting...." Sky please hurry up!" He thought, getting rather impatient of waiting.

As if on cue the human runs into the cave a little too fast and trips on the rocky floor. The boy flew forward and was about to head face first into the stony floor but Silver swiftly caught him. They were very close together now; Sky's head was on his toned chest as he helped his friend up. Both there faces were bright red.

"Uhh... Thanks." Sky whimpered as he broke off the accidental embrace.

"No problem... why were you running so fast anyway?" Silver replied. What would they do if he was being chased?

He then recalled what he wanted to do.

"Oh yeah!" He exclaimed and grabbed the dragon's claw excitedly.

"Hey w-what are you doing?" Silver asked nervously, his cheeks slightly flushed red.

"Come on and you'll see!" He replied energetically.

The dragon couldn't help but giggle at how childish the human was being, but he decided to go along with it, so he stuffed the picture into his pocket and ran out with his energetic friend, hand in claw.

They ran down a path, past a cool, thin river and through some more forest until they came to a stop beside a large, old tree. Silver looked at his over-excited friend for an explanation.

"It's an apple tree! And look there's a really nice spot beneath it where theirs this perfect view of the clouds!" He said rather quickly.

"....."

"What?" Sky asked.

"Nothing it's just cute how excited you got about this!" The dragon teased. "And you're still holding my claw."

"Sorry!" He shouted and quickly retracted his hand. He felt nervous now and the blood was rushing to his face. He noticed the dragon was giggling at his reaction and he began to laugh too, it always made him feel better just seeing that big dragon smile.

He led the dragon to the base of the tree and showed him the best place to sit with a perfect view of the clouds. They both laughed when he pointed out the flower shaped cloud. Then Silver spotted a lonely cloud in the sky and they both felt a little sad for it, but were happy and cheered when it slowly drifted into the other clouds. It may have been silly to feel both happiness and sadness over clouds, but it didn't bother them.

Then when Silver's stomach growled angrily they both burst into laughter, it sounded like an angry lion! So Sky reached up and picked some ripe apples to silence his friends roaring stomach. He watched as his friends lit up as he bit into the succulent apple. Once they had there fill of apples they both sighed and slid down into a more relaxed position.

They just watched the leaves fall from the tree above them whenever the breeze brushed past. They both wore big smiles and turned to look at each other. Silver was the first to speak,

"Hey...Sky." He said quietly.

"Yeah...?" The boy responded after a small yawn.

"Thanks for bringing me here. It's been a great day and well..." He trailed off.

"Well... what?" The human asked, sitting upright.

"Well..." The tired dragon said, "Thanks for being my friend."

The next thing he wasn't expecting. the sleepy human lent over and hugged him tightly, nuzzling his neck.

"Thanks for being my friend too." He whispered.

They both smiled and let out a big yawn, it had been a long day and this weather pretty much sapped all your energy away. So the boy laid his head onto the dragon's firm chest and they both drifted off into a blissful slumber under the apple tree.....
