#2 of Grace's Tail: A Furry Journey

Part 3 of Grace's Tail. Hope you furs like it.

A few weeks had past since Grace had ended up in this crazy world. She had spent some time reading up on the history of this world. Wasn't too diffrent from back home, only with more species and a little less violent. All the same wars, but with less massacres. No nukes either, which was a big plus for Grace.

She also liked getting to know Dax and Daisy as well. Dax was video game designer who had lived in the city all his life who played paintball on weekends. Daisy worked as nurse who did some part time modeling on the side and was born in Manitoba. Grace, meanwhile, was settling in well; playing video games, going to the mall, going with Dax to play paintball. The week before, Dax had bought Grace some sleep wear after it was agreed that all three were tired of the rug burn.

Then one day, as Grace was finished getting dress, Dax walked up to her and told her "Grace, you need to get a job. You can only get so far by bumming money off of me and Daisy."

"I know," said Grace, "I've been trying, but it's hard to make a resume when all your contacts are in a different world." She handed Dax a page of classified ads. She had circled some of the ads in red marker. He noticed the name and address of one of the ads.

"Isn't this that Victoria's Secrect place you were talking about?" he asked.

"Yeah, I thought I could work there, since it's basically the same place I worked before, but I still don't know if I can get it." Grace answered.

Dax answered "If there's a will, there's a way. I mean, you won't have to learn anything new."

"Besides things like how a cheetah buys a thong." Grace pointed out.

...

Later that day, Grace was in the office of the Victoria's Secret, asking for her old job from basically the same old boss. He wasn't too much of a stretch of her old boss. The only real diffrence was that here, he was a sickly Green Iguana. He was middle aged with dull eyes.

"So," began the iguana, in a gravelly voice, "you say that for last job was for one of our stores that is now closed and have no other refrences besides that? I'm sorry miss McAdams, but we can't hire you on just your word alone."

Grace's mind began to rush. She knew if she failed to get this, then how was she to get any other job? Then, she got an idea. As the iguana lumbered over to the door, she stepped in front of him. She said "Wait! If you don't give me this job, I will run out there as say you tried to feel me up!"

The lizard raise a scaly eyebrow. "You wouldn't dare........."

"Oh-no?" asked Grace, starting to mess up her hair and clothes to looks like she was attacked, "I was top of my drama class four years in a row, people will belive me." She took in a deep breath to prepare for large yell, but the manager's scaly hand stopped her.

"OK, OK." he told her, "You have moxie, I will give you that. Your hired. You begin work tomarrow morning. Here is the key to your locker." Grace took the key, smiling smugly, and told him "Thank you."

...

The next day, Grace was on a roll at her new job. Then agian, it was easy doing the same old job all over agian. Only this time, she got alot more stares then before. In fact, she already had to smack four guys who were staring at her chest. Meanwhile, the husky boy was acting like quite the charmer, which Grace felt was cute. He put gel in his hair, put on cologne, and gave her flowers and candy.

"If he were a little older," thought Grace, as she walked out of the store at the end of the day, "I would ask him out." Not focusing on what was going on around her, she walked right into someone! They both fell over and his bags were all over the floor. "I'm sorry!" she blutted out, starting to clean up the mess by picking up the bags.

"It's alright," he answered back, in a laid-back sort of voice. "I was carrying too much stuff anyway."

"No, no." Grace said, picking up a bag from GameStop."I wasn't looking where I was going."

"Don't worry about it. I'm Max, by the way."

"My name's Grace." she told Max before turning to face him. She could see that Max was a cream and brown coloured ferret. And what a ferret! He was a little taller then her, but also a little silmmer then her. He had deep brown eyes that sat down below his dark brown hair. Grace didn't know why she was falling in love with him. She guess it was because otters and ferrets are related, so they probably found the same features to be attractive. And best of all, she could see that Max was feeling the same way about her.

The stood up, each holding some of Max's bags, just staring into each other's eyes for a few minutes. Eventually, they were brought back to earth when a voice echoed over the PA system "Attention shoppers, the mall will close in fifthteen minutes."

Grace asked "Max, that's alot of stuff you're carrying. Why don't I help you?"

"Sure." answered Max, a little nervously. They walked out into the parking lot, with Grace carrying the bags she picked up and Max carrying the rest.

"What's with all this stuff?" asked Grace, being carful not to drop anything.

"I just moved into a new house. I got a raise at work, so I could afford to move out of my apartment and into a house in the suburbs." Max answered, putting down his bags next to his red Taurus so he could dig out his keys.

"What's your job?" said Grace, placing her bags next to the ones that Max had placed on the ground.

"Lawyer." answered Max, popping open his trunk.

Grace was impressed. "Oh, so your like one of those guys on Law and Order."

"No, I'm a copyright lawyer. That means I make money telling kids that they can't sing Frosty the Snowman at Christmas without paying some guy." corrected Max, with a playful wink. Grace laughed, to which Max responded "Wow, I'm glad someone luaghed at that. I used it at work and they looked at me like they were going to kill me. Then agian, some of them are sharks."

"I didn't know lawyers called themselves that." remarked Grace.

"No, I mean sharks as in the fish." said Max, which made Grace blush at her mistake. As they loaded his things into the trunk, Grace turned to Max and asked, rubbing her arm, "Listen, I wanted to ask you....uh, well I get off early this friday, so I wanted to know if you wanted to go out.... If it isn't too much of a hassle."

"Sure." he answered, pulling out a peice of paper and a pair of pens. He tore the paper in two and handed half as well as a pen to Grace. "You write your number down and I will do the same and then well will trade." They both jotted down their numbers and gave them (as well as the pen back in Grace's case) to each other. After putting in the last bag, Max closed the trunk and asked "Do you need a ride home, Grace?"

"No," she answered, spying Daisy driving into the parking lot, "My friend is picking me up. So you on Friday. Bye."

"Goodbye." Max said, waving his hand. Grace waved back as she practically floated into the backseat of Daisy's car.

...

On friday night, Daisy was prepping up Grace for her first date since she ended up in this world. Showered, got her hair styled up in a bun, put on the new dress she got, put on some makeup (Grace was happy to know that in this world, animal testing was voluntary) and as Daisy walked her out, she went through the final check list.

"You got your phone?" she asked.

"Yes." answered Grace, pulling it out of her purse before placing it back in.

"Spare cash, in case he's cheap?"

"Yep."

"Water bottle, in case you need it?"

"Got it."

"Protection?"

"Yes, but it was so hard to find some." noted Grace.

"Because of social stigma? Because you don't know his size?"

"No, I got one box of every size, it's just so hard because they have a different type for different species!"

"That's why I recommend the pill." agreed Daisy.

They wait just inside the building lobby because it was raining something fierce outside. It wasn't a long wait though, because Max soon rolled up in his Taurus and ran up to the front double doors, carrying an umbrella. He was wearing an black italian suit that matched his umbrella. Daisy whispered into Grace's ear "Wow, he is loaded."

Grace waved goodbye to Daisy as she walked with Max under his umbrella, trying to keep as dry as possible.

...

A short drive later, Max pulled up into his driveway. "Here we are." Grace looked at his house. It was very nice. It was large house, but still quite a distance away from being a McMansion. It had blue paint on the side, a door with a little window in it, a garage on left side, a beautiful lawn and garden, filled with all sorts of veggies and flowers, lovely windows. Grace was very impressed.

Max opened the garage door to park his car in. As he shut off the engine, a dolphin walked out the door leading to his house. He handed him a pair of house keys and told him (in french) "Here you go." Max told him thank you (also in french) and shook his hand. As he left, Grace asked "Who was that?"

"My nieghbor. I had dinner cooking, but I couldn't leave the house and pick you up at the same time." said Max. "So I got him to watch the food well I went out. He's a very nice guy, so I know I could trust him."

Grace was getting more impressed by the minute. "Oh, you cook?"

"Yeah. My family's italian, so you know, we know our way around food. My mother teached me everything I know." answered Max. Guessing from what she could smell, Grace could tell that his mom trained him well. She could see (just barely, as the lights were dimmed, that most of his stuff was unpacked and there were moving boxes everywhere. "Sorry about the mess. I haven't had the time to unpack everything, so I'm still living out of boxes."

"It's alright," said Grace, stitting down at his dinning room table. "Just as long as we get somthing to eat." As Max walked into the kitchen, he told Grace over his shoulder "My mother would love you."

When he walked out of the kitchen, he had a bottle of wine and two glasses. He lit a candle before pouring a glass for the two of them. "I got this from my uncle in the old country for passing my bar exam. I hope it's special enough."

"Oh yes," blushed Grace as she toke a sip from her glass, "this is very good."

"Thanks," smiled Max, walking back over to the kitchen. "I'll be right back." Grace couldn't help but stare at him as he walked away. Partially because, as she had learned the night of her birthday, she couldn't hold her alcohol, so her better judgement was beening buzzed away. But mostly, it was she felt herself being attracted to Max. He was smart, had a good job, was a great cook, and was very sexy. For an otter, she was finding herself losing control over not pouncing him. He walked back in with two plates.

"Here we go," said Max, putting down two plates of pasta "some fettuccine Alfredo."

"Thanks." Grace told him. For a few minutes, they just sat and ate the meal that Max had made. Grace thought it was excellent, but then agian, it had seafood in it, so it was the kind of thing otters liked. Soon, Grace asked "So, Max, what's your family like?"

Max took a sip of the wine and answered "Well, my mom and dad were highschool sweet hearts from the old country that came to Canada back in the '70's. I'm the second youngest of five kids. My oldest brother Gino works with my uncle at his winery in Italy. My other two brothers are cops, and my little sister works as a model out west. I remeber growing up, I was always the kid who liked to mouth off to people. To be honest, they were surprized I became a lawyer and not a wise guy." As Max poured Grace another glass of wine, he added "So what about you? What's your family like?"

"Well," Grace began, begining to slurr her words, "My dad has told me our family has been in Canada since confederation. My dad met my mom at collage, they moved to the country, had me, a few years later we moved to the city so I could go to middle school, I dated a jerk boyfriend and that's about it." Grace decided to leave out the whole human-to-otter thing, at least for tonight.

As Max cleared the plates after they were done, he had another question. "I can't believe I didn't ask you this before Grace, but how old are you?"

"Twenty-one." answered Grace. "How about you?"

As Max walked back to the table, he answered "Twenty-five."

After a few more glasses of wine, the couple stood up. Grace walked straight into the arms of her date. "You know, I've got to thank you for that meal."

"How?" asked Max. He soon put it together when Grace started nibbling on his ear. That night, the nieghboors were lucky they had the storm, or else Grace and Max would have kept them up all night......
