Mission start!==( )----o-o-o----o-o-o |   Indeed, tis a story of Megaman Mod Gamingn Pokémon     You know those games, the ones nobody ever hears about until a few years after? Or the semi-illegal mods none of the companies care about since the original game is too old to profit from? The modded game I got, Mega Man Legends 1.5 : Omega Edition was just one of those games. Somehow, a person had completely redone the Mega Man Legends game for PC, not quite from the bottom up, but as close as possible without being a completely different game. At the very least, it maintained the same general gameplay; stop the bad guys, explore ruins, upgrade your weapons; you know the drill. If you're an avid Megaman player, or if you know the Mega Man Legends series, you know what to expect.   The control interface is slightly different; that's to be expected. Those are the only thing that remained mostly the same, however. The textures are akin to one of the Halo or Call of Duty games in detail; The names of the main characters - both of which are robots - are Rock and Iris, instead of Megaman and Roll; as used in the English version. There is no Barrell; in fact, many of the old NPCs and maps are replaced with new ones. The Flutter, as known in the English version, is called the Sky Flower. There are quite a lot of changes, and many improvements. In the game, you start in a text cutscene - no voice because, of course, there are no voice actors - in which the main characters discuss needing to stop at an island and get supplies. After this is a landing scene, after which you have to get the basic items needed to start the game- having just enough money to get them.   After these events, Iris calls you back to the ship, installing your new weapons and tracking system, and performing a basic check of your system, as a type of tutorial, since you're a robot. Basic combat tutorial; shooting at target dummies with various types of buster shots; one does big damage but is only close range, another goes far but does low damage, stuff like that. Basically just charge shots.   The time when the weirdness starts is right after Rock is threatened by the leader of a flying pirate gang. Iris beams back to the ship, telling Rock that she would help him from there. The 'Mission Start' logo appeared; very slightly glitched on the last letter; nothing big, maybe a few pixels, a couple taps to the side of the computer got rid of it, so I assumed it was just a programming error. Running around the enemy - the leader of the gang in a type of mecha suit - and firing seemed to do the trick. Because it was the first boss, it went down pretty easy, and the attacks did close to no damage.     After a cutscene where the gang ran off, I was tasked to help find Hubert - the equivalent of the Junk Shop Man - who had ran off into the local ruins. Being the first ruin in the game, I didn't know what to expect. Once I got into it - man, those graphics were nice! It was like opening up the original Mario Bros. Game and finding New Super Mario Bros. 2! I took a while to admire the basic enemies and other things inside, forgetting about what I was supposed to do for quite a while, which was save Hubert. After a while of that, I get to Hubert and shoot down all the reaverbots. Instead of the guy thanking me, his text displays "??? : ???????? ??? ??????????? , ???????? ????????." then freezes up. Well, being the inquisitive person I am, I go online to translate the phrase, which is a combo of both Japanese and Greek text, all in all meaning "Error, processor failure, unable to read script". Well, not all that strange; other than the fact it's mixed in two languages, it's a pretty basic way to say "I'm a computer, I can't understand this". Well, I go back to the game window, restart it, and lo and behold, my save file from after the first boss was there. Yay, no need to totally redo the entire intro. Opening the save file, however, it drops me off right after the error, at Hubert's house. Before totally loading, it gives me some more text. "?????????????????????????????????" Once again, I get online and translate it. "Script read error resolved. Continuing at closest scene ahead." Okay, apparently it has a sort of... error-fix quicksave? Continuing on with the game, I get to the main city area. After having to speak with the local NPCs, the next boss fight ensues. Another glitch at the "Mission Start" logo, this time encompassing most of the T at the end of "Start".   Well, about three boss battles in and a few ruins later, I was getting these "script error" messages practically every few minutes. Annoyed, I go back to the download page, at the forum post dedicated to this.   devlin4428: The game is giving me "script read" errors ever few minutes. It's been doing this since the Hubert rescue mission. do I need a patch? maybe a fix?   About twenty minutes later, the creator of the game messages me back.   jackdaeman: @Devlin4428, some computers need a processing patch installed to allow the game executable to read the script files. I'll link you to it.

Linked files:mmloe_proc_patch.zip - 21MB   After downloading the patch, I read the readme. Put the patch files into the MML mod's bin folder. Easy enough. I extract it into the MML folder, then retry the program. Upon starting the game, the main menu shows up. What I saw, I thought was just a joke.   "Mega Man Legends 1.5: Omega Edition +Pokémon"   Well, continuing my save, I am greeted by...absolutely no change whatsoever. Okay. So far, so good. I walk round for a few minutes. Around the time when a 'script read error' should pop up, one text box opens. "Script read error fix complete. Now able to read scripts. End message."   More gameplay ensues. I gleefully shoot up reaverbots for money, unhindered by error messages. After getting the refractor needed to go to the lake ruins, I get the boat running. After the boat cutscene, Te boat starts driving around the lake map, much bigger and much better quality. I find I'm able to control the boat's direction with the left-turn and right-turn keys. Some pirate submarines begin to come up, just like in the original. The "Mission start" logo comes up once again...most of the letters except for the first M in 'Mission' and the A in 'Start' are completely glitched up.   At that point, the program terminates, my OS giving me a 'Fatal Error' window before the desktop restarts. After this, I try to restart the game. Upon opening, the game immediately crashes. After a few more attempts, I blame it on this 'processing patch' the creator gave me. Heading back to the forum, I post a reply to him.   devlin4428: Yo, @jackdaeman, the game just crashed and now it won't start! Is this some sort of a joke? dafuq was in that patch?   A mere minute later, 'jack' responds.   jackdaeman: Give me the log and I'll see what went wrong.   After searching the program's folder, I finally come across "mmloe_dump_log_1-14_4-14-2015.txt". Copying and pasting it into the reply box, I wait for a reply.   jackdaeman: you must not have instaled the patch corectly. either that, or there's a piece of it missing. do you have a 'patchinfo.inf' or a 'patchinfo.scr' in your resources folder? if not, put these in it.   Linked files: mmloe_proc_pach_pt1.tar.gz - 42MB mmloer_proc_pacth_pt2.tar.gz- 41MB   Looking into those folders, I don't find any files like it. Downloading and unzipping the needed files, I go back to the forum and post a thank-you reply.   devlin4428: @jackdaeman Yo, thnx for the fix. Running it now.   Starting up the game, the screen completely glitches out. The program doesn't close, and I go back to the forum, to find a new message for me, from Jack.   jackdaeman: Huh? I never replied to you. What fix?   Oh....shit...   Of course, I should have seen it. The post before read way differently than he usually typed. I suddenly get very bad feeling.   You have a new message fromjackdaeman . Read now?   The feeling in the pit of my stomach grows. Shit! I was probably going to have my PC become part of a huge botnet. Reading the private message, I wait for some sort of info box on my desktop, telling me just how stupid I was.   jackdaeman messaged you at 2:01 PM: you'll thank me later...   What? No snarky 'you just lost the game'? No leet-speak? Just "You'll thank me later". What the hell does that even mean?!   Several blotches of color spread across the screen. Shit. The program closes, and images begin to pop up; three-dimensional models, photos, drawings, all sorts of pictures.   FFFF-
