This is the story I've been working on for a while, where Friendly and Timothy meet for the first time!

One day, a young fox cub rode his bike down the street. His parents didn't mind him going out on his own, just as long as he was back before suppertime. There were a few places he wasn't allowed to go... such as the building site up at the top of the road. He could go as far as the park in one direction, and as far as the railway line in the other direction, but no further. Friendly made sure he looked both ways as he got off his bike, and crossed the road. Now, he was nine and a half years old, he'd be ten in September. It was just a few months ago that he had moved from England with his parents. He had no siblings, and nobody at school wanted to be his friend. Friendly couldn't understand it, but then... maybe he didn't want to understand it. One thing he did notice though was how good he was with younger cubs. He always played gently, and if a young cub was unhappy, Friendly always did everything he could to make them happy. You see, Friendly wanted only one thing in the entire world - a little brother.

Friendly locked his bike to the railings outside the park, and went inside. He closed the gate behind him and looked all around. There were children everywhere. Some were on the swings... some on the slide... there was a see-saw with two cubs bouncing up and down and giggling at each other. Friendly smiled as he watched them all playing with each other. There was a squirrel on the climbing frame, a raccoon and a wolf riding all around the grass on their bikes, and another wolf and a cheetah were playing on the basketball court. Just then, Friendly noticed something. There was another raccoon with a smaller bike, in the mud. Friendly watched the raccoon cub. He was turning his pedals, but his bike wasn't moving. The back wheel of the raccoon's bike was just spinning helplessly, seemingly unable to get any traction in the mud. Friendly stood up and walked down towards him. As Friendly made his way towards the raccoon who was stuck in the mud, the sound of laughing, giggling and jeering reached his ears. "Haha! Training-wheels is stuck in the mud again!" Friendly looked at the raccoon cub. He was sniffling as he just kept turning his pedals, trying to ride his bike. The raccoon's bike had a pair of training wheels, which kept him balanced, but did nothing to help him get out of the mud. Friendly felt sorry for him. "Training wheels are for babies!" laughed one of the other kids. Friendly ignored them and stood next to the raccoon cub. "Would you like some help?" asked Friendly. The raccoon looked up nervously at the fox, he looked quite frightened. "It's okay, I'm not gonna laugh at you" said Friendly, "Do you want me to push you out?" "Yes... yes please" squeaked the raccoon, nervously. Friendly smiled warmly at the raccoon and stood behind his bike. He put both of his paws on the seat and gave the bike a push - enough to push it clear of the mud. "Try now" said Friendly, as he stopped pushing on the bike's seat. The raccoon turned his pedals and he smiled happily as his bike moved by itself. "Thank you!" squeaked the raccoon, happily. Friendly smiled and sat on the nearby park bench. All of the kids who had laughed at the raccoon had disappeared. Friendly sighed, and looked all around. Maybe he could talk to the wolf and cheetah who were playing basketball, they looked like they were around his age; or maybe he could find the other raccoon and wolf who were riding their bikes. He looked all around, but they were all gone. The fox sighed and closed his eyes, maybe he'd have to come back later.

Just then, Friendly felt someone sit on the bench with him. He opened his eyes, and there was the chubby little raccoon he'd helped out of the mud - sitting next to him! "Hi" said the raccoon. "Oh, hello" said Friendly, smiling at his visitor. "Thanks for helping me" "You're welcome. My name's Friendly" said the fox. "Friendly?" repeated the raccoon. "Yeah, it's what everyone calls me" "My name's Timothy" Friendly looked at Timothy. He had white ears; he had thick, brown headfur; he was wearing a blue t-shirt and a pair of orange swimming trunks with white and blue flames on them; and he had amber eyes. "How old are you?" asked Timothy "Me? Oh... I'm nine-and-a-half" said Friendly "I'm gonna be six, soon!" said Timothy, wrapping his gold-and-brown-ringed tail around the fox. Friendly was a little surprised at how trusting the little raccoon was, but he didn't say anything. "So, when's your birthday?" asked the fox. "My birthday's in September" said Timothy "Mine is too!" said Friendly "Really? Wow!" said Timothy Friendly grinned at the raccoon. "Are you here with your parents?" asked the fox. "I'm here with my mom. My dad's a bus driver" "Oh, okay" said Friendly, "Do you want to introduce me to her?" "Okay!" said Timothy, pushing himself off the bench and sitting on his little red bike. He turned his pedals and rode along the path, his training wheels making a sort of rattling noise on the tarmac. Friendly grinned as he watched his new friend riding along the path gleefully. "Wait for me!" chuckled Friendly, jogging along to keep up with Timothy. "Sorry, I just got excited. I've never had a friend meet my mom before" said Timothy.

Soon, the fox and the little raccoon arrived by a big horse-chestnut tree. "Mom! Mom! I've made a new friend!" squeaked Timothy excitedly, leaving his bike on the grass and running as fast as he could to where a female raccoon was sitting on a large red-and-white checkered picnic cloth with another, much younger raccoon. Friendly looked at Timothy's forgotten bike and pushed it through the grass, so it sat by the tree-trunk. "Is that your little brother?" asked Friendly "No, that's my little cousin Justin" said Timothy, "This is my mom!" "Hi" said Friendly, sitting on the edge of the picnic cloth. "I saw you helped Timothy out there" said Timothy's mom, smiling at the fox. "I'm glad that he's made a friend, everyone in his class makes fun of him" "But why?" asked Friendly, "Everyone kept laughing at him when he got stuck, everyone except me" "I know, I can't understand it" said Timothy's mom, "My name's Sally, and this is Timothy's lil' cousin Justin" Justin giggled and tried to grab the fox's tail as it swished back and forth. "Come here, you little scamp" chuckled Sally, picking Justin up and bouncing him on her knee. Suddenly, Friendly noticed his parents walking along the path. "I guess I've got to go home" said Friendly, standing up. "Can't you stay? We're gonna have some food!" said Timothy "I'll ask, but I don't know" said Friendly, walking over to the path. "Oh, hey Friendly" said his dad, "Hi Sally" "Hi Mr. Brush" said Sally "Mr. Brush?" repeated Friendly, a little confused, "Do you know each other?" "Yes, your dad owns the restaurant I work at" said Sally "Oh!" said Friendly, smiling. "Your son helped Timothy when his bike got stuck" said Sally, "I think they'd be great friends" "Yeah! We can do all sorts of stuff together!" said Timothy, grinning happily as Friendly sat down next to him. "Can we join you?" asked Friendly's mom. "Of course! There's enough food to go around" said Sally, gesturing for all of them to sit down and eat.

"Mmmmm, you're such a great cook Sally" said Friendly's dad, licking his lips as he devoured a chicken drumstick. "We're so glad we took you on as a chef" said Friendly's mom, "Business has gone up since we hired you, word's getting around" "Thank you" said Sally, smiling "Dad, can Timothy have a sleepover?" asked Friendly "Is it okay with you, Sally?" asked Friendly's dad. "Sure" said Sally, though she leaned over and whispered into his ear. "Oh... I see" said Friendly's dad. "What's wrong?" asked Friendly, inquisitively. "Um... well... I sometimes... well more than sometimes... wet my bed" said Timothy, blushing a little "Oh..." said Friendly "But it's okay, just so long as I wear one of my goodnites" said Timothy "Okay" said Friendly, "Is that like a diaper?" "Well... yeah" said Timothy "It's okay, I don't mind" said Friendly, "Please dad" "Alright" said Friendly's dad "Thanks dad!" said Friendly, hugging him tightly. "I'll bring Timothy over after supper" said Sally, "I'll make sure he's got everything he needs" "Okay, well we'd better be going" said Friendly's mom. "See you tonight, Timothy!" called Friendly, waving to his new friend. "Bye Friendly!" said Timothy, waving back to the fox.
