Fisherman's folly part four.

This will be the final chapter of fisherman's folly, I could probably write it even longer, but this is where the dream ended so I'm just going to leave it at that... for now at least. there's a chance i could come back later and revisit this story

_____________________________________________

Early this morning when we woke up, Luke and I decided to go for a hike. Rather, luke wanted to hike and I agreed to come along. I quickly packed up a bag with some bottles of water and snacks and we headed out. I was still in a sort of afterglow after last night and it didn't take a genius to see that Luke seemed to be as well. Maybe it was the sun, or maybe it was the sex but He was as happy as I'd ever seen him.

"Be careful of that rock there, it's pretty loose." luke said

Right. should probably be paying more attention when climbing up a rocky mountainside. "ok, gotcha" I gave the wiggly rock a wide berth

Phew, we were only about half way up the mountain and I was already tired. It's the damn tail, I swear. We'd chosen the least steep mountain, the Other sides were far steeper inclines But this was tiring enough. Well for me at least it was tiring, Luke was doing A-ok. Already the town was starting to look small, the buildings like toys, and the boats mimicked the little paper ones you sail down streams. I looked for a second longer before continuing. damn, luke was getting far ahead again!Even the small backpack I had given him to carry didnt seem to weigh him down.

"Hey wait up! I'm dyin' down here" I called up. Almost comically I stumbled on a loose rock and had to windmill my arms to keep from falling over.

Luke laughed and sat down. "What's the matter water boy? out of your element?"

I knew he was just teasing me and gave a raise of the eyebrow as I hiked up to him

"That may be so, but pick any damn day of the week and I'll destroy you in the water" I grinned back to him "Speaking of water, pass the bag, I need a drink."

Luke hefted the small bag off his back and pulled out two bottles of water and passed one to me.

I cracked the lid and chugged down a quarter of it, Luke however was more conservative. "you know it helps if you sip it rather than chug it. you'll get more refreshed that way" he said gesturing towards my quarter empty bottle. I felt my cheeks get hotter but luckily my fur hid that. "Thanks, I'll drink the rest slower" I said still slightly embarassed. I walked beside luke and put my water bottle back in the bag, then gave luke a friendly rub down his back.

"It's getting too hot for this" I said peeling the t shirt off my body. I shivered a little bit from the soft breeze on my damp fur, but more so from Luke's eyes trailing all over my body then at my amulet. I glanced over at him and he was grinning wide. He walked over and wrapped his arms around my lower back and pulled me tight against him. Our noses were touching and I looked deep into his brown eyes before he pressed his lips against mine. I could feel his tounge with mine while my heart beat faster and I felt that fluttery feeling you can't exactly explain. Luke broke the kiss and we're both breathing heavily and looking at eachother with the kind of electricity that starts fires.. or orgies.

"We should really get to the top of the mountain first" Luke says trailing a finger down my chest but stopping just above my belly button.

I chew on my bottom lip slightly but nod to continue.

This time when we hike though, our pace is more even. Unsuprisingly I'm much more motivated to keep up with him now. As we walked along i could feel the pendant hit against my chest with every step. I reached out to feel it's weight in my hand. Funny a set of jewelery, even some as nice as this had given me a wonderful person like Luke. Life was funny like that sometimes I mused.

We finally crest the top of the hill, just as the sun is starting to set. It's an amazing view, one side the sky is stained in pinks and orange and the other, a deepening blue with the faintest shine of stars coming through. We're not on the tallest mountain but we can certainly see over a number of the other peaks. The next valleys are filled with forrests and lakes further on. It's been a long time since I'd seen this view

"..Are those city lights?" Luke says pointing to the far edge of the horizon where sure enough, a few glittering lights can be seen.

"Yea, it's pretty far away though." "

"But you never told me there were any cities around here!" Luke queried

"Well you never asked!" I retorted

Luke thought about this for a second, then agreed.

"But you've never thought about going there?" he was puzzled.

"I knew one kid back in school his name was taya, he left to go 'other places'. I wonder if he ended up there. And well I've considered leaving before but its pretty comfortable here. There was one time though, after my parents dissapeared. I wanted to leave because there was too much pain, to many memories. After I accepted the fact they were gone though I decided to make the best of life instead of just running away."

Luke nodded and sat down and patted a spot beside him. He sat and thought for a while

"Hey Kaeori, don't take this the wrong way but.. what If I wanted to leave perhaps. I love it here and love spending time with you but there's gotta be more out there ya know? you guys are all just cooped up here with out ever leaving. Where I come from we travel all over the place and I kinda miss that."

"I understand. I guess my idea of keeping you here was pretty selfish. I wouldn't ask you to do anything you didn't want to, even if that means you leaving"

"Well you could always come with me" Luke said. as he played with the long grass in between me and him absent mindedly. I could see he was visibly nervous about this.

"If you want me to, I'd go with you anywhere" I said. Ok so it was a bit cheesy, but I really did feel that way!

Luke sighed in relief, like he'd been holding in his breath "Of course I want you to come! that's why I was so worried about suggesting to leave, I was afraid you'd want to stay"

Luke leaned back until finally he was laying down in the tall grass looking up at the ever more visible stars while the sun backed out of it's relm in the sky.

I scooted over to luke and layed down on his stomach. For a while we just stared at eachother's eyes in the dying light, a recent favorite activity for the both of us. We just relaxed in the cool embrace of evening after the sweltering hot hike up here. I reached down to kiss the nape of his his neck which rewarded me with a breathless moan. We kissed again then I saw Luke's eyes drift down to the necklace which kept hitting his chest every time I leaned down.

"Hey Kaeori hold up a sec." he said "I want to get a better look at that thing before it gets too dark"

I leaned up, letting the necklace fall to my chest on full display. I'd known luke was interested in it for a while, just like he had been the ring; But he was too shy to ask, or maybe was afraid I'd get offended or something. Luke reached up to touch it-

"Woa woa, what are you doing? you said your self it could be dangerous, we don't know what'll happen if you touch it! I don't want to lose you either" I said quickly as I grabbed his hand

With one arm Luke grabbed me around the back, pulling me closer to himself.

"I'm not scared anymore, besides I've got you here. If something happens, we both go"

I was still kind of nervous of what could happen but nodded anyway and let go of his hand. He reached up to touch it-Searingly bright shot all around us. It also felt like my pendant was electrified, surges of energy where shooting everywhere. I may have yelled or maybe even screamed but I could still feel Luke underneath me so I calmed down. At least we hadn't gotten seperated. finally the electricity stopped and the light died but i was still blinded from the white light.

"Luke! are you ok? answer me!" I said as I shook him. He just groaned and made incomprehensible noises. The blindness was starting to wear off as my eyes adjusted to the darkness again. I gasped at what I saw. Light colored fur covered luke's body,With black highlights. His face had changed too, He was an otter! Never in a million years could I have imagined THIS would happen. Finally after a while of me waiting, Luke came to.

"What happened? Oh man I feel all funny" he said as he reached his webbed hands to his face, which was no longer flat. I just sat and watched his come to his own revelation on what had happened. "Oh man WHAT!?" he said as he looked at his hands, more specifically the webs and pads and fur. "No way! THIS IS SO COOL!" He yelled, then slapped his tail against the ground and grinned wide.

"That necklace is the best, Kaeori" he pointed at me then chuckled. The new otter got up and frolicked around, swinging his tail back and forth and generally just enjoying himself. I just sat and watched him enjoy himself. It was a sight to see, until he unbalanced himself from swinging his tail a bit too much and almost fell over. I laughed "HAH! now you know what it feels like"

"yes yes, sorry for teasing of you before. This is so cool though! I can smell so much! is this what every day is like for you?!" he said, running around inspecting everything as if he had never seen it before.

"Yea pretty much but, I don't really have anything to compare it to so I wouldn't know any difference" I said shrugging.

Luke came and sat down beside me and put an arm around me. It felt nice and warm.. and furry.

"I just can't believe how much of a difference this is, I feel like I could take on the world" Luke exclaimed

"well that's good to here. I'm just thinking, The supply ship docks in town in two weeks so maybe we could start our journey then? That give me just enough time to pack all my stuff and sell the house or something. Or maybe I could just keep it so we have a plan b in case anything happens."

"Either sounds wonderful" Luke said in a dreamy far off voice. Even in the dim light I could see Luke's eyes filled with a kind of wonderous excitement. That excitement was beginning to rub of on me, it was infection. Since Luke had come I found myself doing so many different things I never did before. Variety is the spice of life and all that.

This was all so romantic It was starting to make me emotional. Luke saw this and pulled me into his embrace and wrapped his arms around me from behind. I pushed back into his grip until we were close as two souls could possibly be. Then we sat back in the quiet chirp of crickets and watched the stars in the cool air of the early August evening; Never quite taking our eyes off the city lights on the horizon that would soon be our new life.
