--Chapter 4-- Professor Oak sits at his desk once again looking over the test results of one, Amy Allen Kibosaru. He still cannot believe a child of only eleven scored a grade that he himself was able to score. No trainer has scored that high in sixty years and he smiles this kid might give his grandson a run for his money and maybe deflate his ego a bit. He looks over at the pokeballs on the table near him and his smile widens, this was going to be a good day he was sure of it. There is a knock at the door and Oak jumps a bit, someone was here already? He goes to the front door and opens it, a boy is standing before him with spiky brown hair, a confident stance, and an arrogant smirk, his grandson; Gary Oak. "Well here early I see, eager to get started on your journey Gary?" Oak smiles and stands aside to let him in shuts the door and begins walking back to his lab with Gary following. "Hmph I want to see this Amy kid from America. I want to see what the big deal is a high test score is just that, a high test score what really counts, is the actual battles that's totally different from text stuff." He smirks and snatches a pokeball off the table. He examines the emblem on it, "yeah I will take this one." He throws himself into a chair and sits back and spins the pokeball on his index finger absent mindedly. After about half an hour of Gary spinning the ball and Professor Oak typing on his computer there is another knock at the door. "Stay here Gary I will get it." Oak stands up and walks to the door, he opens it and to his shock there is not just a little girl before him but a very powerful and intimidating looking Lucario. He sees the logo on the Lucario's vest, the logo of the international Guide Pokemon School, he then notices the cane in the girls hand and the fact she isn't really looking at him which means more than likely she is totally blind. He recomposes himself and smiles at them "Can I help you two with something?" the little girl steps forward. "I am Amy Kibosaru and I am looking for Professor Oak" she is all grins and looks very excited "he is gonna help me get started on my Pokemon journey!" Professor Oak's eyes widen and he does his best to contain the sudden rush of terror that comes over him. Can this be real a blind child made that perfect score? He nods and moves aside. "Welcome Amy I am Professor Oak this is an awfully brave thing for you to..." He doesn't get to finish his sentence as Amy is grabbing his hand and shaking it enthusiastically. "It's a real honor to meet you Professor I have been getting every one of your books in brail so I can read them I think you are the best researcher there is!" Oak can't help but laugh it was nice to meet a fan of his research, especially one that was so young and despite her obvious disability it seems nothing is holding her back from doing what she loves. The Lucario takes her arm and Professor Oak gets his next big shock. "Amy do not overwhelm this man you must talk slower and more importantly you must let him finish speaking to you first." "Oh my goodness, a Lucario that speaks the human language!" Oak leans in close pulling out a notepad and pen. "Could you perhaps say a few more things?" Lucario gives him such a look Oak can almost hear the ink in his fountain pen dry up into dust. "Do I look like a performing Chimchar to you Professor?" he reels Amy back in and she takes Lucario's arm "There are better things for me to do with my time now please show us the appropriate gear we are to collect from you so we may begin the journey." Oak hastily puts away his pen and pad of paper and clears his throat. "Of course right this way please." He leads them to the back room where is still lounging waiting for his grandfather and the new arrival to return. "Gary, this is Amy Kibosaru and her Lucario." There is a silence as Gary sizes up the girl, then, he begins laughing hysterically. "Y-you can't be serious! Look at her! She can't see! Sh-She won't know which way to throw the ball!" He keeps laughing as Lucario's eyes widen with fury but before he can make a move to break the boy in half Amy steps forward and draws herself up to her full height. "Oh yeah I know I can beat you! Any time any place and any kind of Pokemon you use it won't matter" she stops and thinks for a split second then adds on something she has heard Lucario say many times before "you pathetic little urchin." Lucario smiles proudly at Amy, not only is she standing up for herself but she is using one the first insults Lucario ever learned. "Lucario can I have the pokeball with the leaf on it?" Everybody in the room looks shocked how did she know that one of the balls had that symbol on it. "If I remember right that's the starting Pokemon bulbasaur and that's the one I want." Lucario walks to the table and picks up the ball and puts it in Amy's hand. "Let's go outside right now and have us a battle!" Gary smirks and strolls outside Amy and Lucario following him. They get outside and there is a whole cheering section for Gary including cheerleaders. Amy grits her teeth and Lucario pats her head. "Alright here we go!" She throws the ball "go bulbasaur!" The blue and green Pokemon appears and takes an aggressive stance as Gary releases a squirtle... Amy walks along side Lucario hanging her head in shame as the sun sets casting a brilliant golden light over the land. "Do not be upset Amy it is only one loss there will be many victories I promise." "But I had a type advantage too, I had a perfect plan and he ruined it, it's not fair." She stamps her cane and keeps walking holding onto Lucario's arm. After about three hours of walking night sets in and they stop by a lake and make camp, After about half an hour Lucario and Amy have a tent and camp fire set up, Amy sits down by the fire and feels the heat and listens to the crackling and low roar of the fire while she eats a candy bar. She feels something tug on her arm and hears a little voice speak in a begging tone. "Pichu Pi?" the little baby Pokemon tugs on her sleeve again and looks at the candy bar in her grip. That's about as far as the little Pokemon gets then Lucario picks it up by its head and glares at with glowing golden eyes. "Do not beg for any food you little cretin and she is not your mother now be gone from my sight" the pichu's blue eyes tear up and it begins whimpering as Lucario throws the infant Pokemon to the ground. "A Pichu! I have always wanted to have a Pichu!" Amy gets up shakily and feels her way over to where Lucario threw the little guy down. She feels around and scoops him up and holds him close. "He thinks I am his mother it's so sweet! This makes the day a bit better after losing to Gary!" She rocks him in her arms smiling. "Amy Pichus are baby Pokemon they require much care and I don't think I am really cut out for that nor do I really want to look after the thing." Lucario crosses his arms he has his duty to look after Amy not some lone Pichu. "You won't have to Lucario I read up on Pichus I can take care of him" she feels her way back to the spot where she was sitting and reaches into the backpack that Lucario carries. "I know you will love these." She pulls out an oran berry and holds it out to the Pichu. The Pichu seizes it and begins eating it happily resting his head against Amy's arm. Eventually they both fall asleep and Lucario sighs and shakes Amy. "Lets get you and that thing to bed." Helps her into the tent and zips it up behind her and then he goes and sits by the fire. He stares into the burning flames and he remembers the battle earlier that day... "GO! Bulbasaur" bulbasaur appears on the field, a blue four legged reptile with a green leafed bud on its back, Gary releases a squirtle, a turtle with light blue scales, brown eyes, and brown shell. Lucario leans down and informs Amy of the Pokemon and its position on the field in relation to Bulbasaur's. "A squirtle I got a type advantage here." She smiles and points "now use vine whip!" Gary smirks. "Hmph sidestep and use skullbash finish this in one shot!" the squirtle nods and dodges the bublasaur's long dark green vines and rams his head into bulbasaur's side just below its ribcage. Bulbasaur cries out in pain and crumples. "Since you can't see I will tell you, it's over I win" he recalls squirtle and walks away with his whole cheering section in toe. Amy hands Lucario the pokeball and he recalls the Pokemon for Amy since she cannot tell which direction to point the ball. Professor Oak walks over to Amy and rests a hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry Amy there is going to be many wins and many losses but you will benefit from them and move on." He puts a pokedex in hand as well as five pokeballs. "You will go far Amy I know it and you will put Gary in his place sooner or later." Amy smiles and hugs him. "Thank you professor I will be in touch after I get my first badge in Viridian City I promise" she pockets her stuff. "Call me anytime you need to they will give you my number at a Pokemon center. Oh! I almost forgot take this." He hands her a red card with a golden pokeball logo on it. "this will keep track of your money just swipe in a pokedex whenever you win or lose a match." Amy nods and puts in a new wallet Lucario bought her a week ago. "Thank you" she takes Lucario's arm and they begin walking down the road Amy still looking sad about her loss to Gary. "Next time Lucario, next time I will beat him into the ground." She grips her cane so hard her knuckle turn white. "I swear it." Lucario comes back to reality and puts a few logs on the fire. Then he takes a few extra rocks from the edge of the fire pit and stacks them on top of each other and then balances on top of the top rock on one paw and crosses his arms and his eyes glow gold then he closes them and begins meditating, harnessing the aura around him so to anyone who passes by will see strands of blue light twisting and pulsing around Lucario. He looks into the tent with the power of aura and see's Amy in a sleeping bag an arm wrapped around the Pichu like a teddy bear both seem very happy and are resting peacefully. Lucario nods and smiles remembering how his mother used to keep an arm around him while they meditated together when he was a Riolu, he can't help but wonder about his mother her unique white fur her soft blue eyes and gentle wise words of reassurance and encouragement, he knew it was her, not Jonathon that made him strong and he would do his best to look after Amy as diligently as his mother looked after him. He knew if he did Amy's actions wouldn't just change the view of the Pokemon league about blind people but she would change the way whole world would see things, they would see things the way Amy saw things, that nothing was impossible and all it took to achieve a goal was hard work, dedication, and no fear of failure, but first... Amy needs to get a good night's rest in a warm sleeping bag.
