He sat up. Wait, sat up? What was that? How did he know what it was called? He looked around, but instead of his right eye swiveling in the direction he wanted, his head turned. "What is going on?" He saw the man . . . the . . . doctor. Wasn't that what he was called? He began to speak, expecting a hissing sound but heard a high pitched grunt. He flinched at the sound. "What was that?" The doctor turned around to see him sitting up and smiled.

"Well, Damian, it's good to see that you are conscious. I was unsure of just how the compound would affect you. It doesn't always work, you know." He walked up to Damian and held up a mirror.

In it, Damian could see his usual green scales, but his face! "How do I know it's called a face?" It was bigger than it ever was, but everything else seemed right.

"Stand up, Damian," the doctor said, and Damian listened.

Damian found that when got up off the bed, he didn't fall at all, but was standing on two feet. He looked down and nearly fell backwards from the shock of seeing himself on two legs. He tried to speak again, but all he could manage was that high pitched grunt again. He looked across from himself and saw a cat in the shape of a man. Damian pointed at him and the doctor followed his finger.

The cat man was sleeping comfortably on his side of the room until he woke up with a yawn. The grunting noises had woken him up, and he was confused. He looked at himself , and became scared, the fur on his body rising.

"Ah, Shawn, you're awake." The doctor walked over to Shawn and petted his head. "Don't be frightened, there's nothing wrong with you."

Damian followed the doctor, unsure of what was going on until they got an explanation.

Shawn had no idea what was going on, but he decided that he was going to trust the doctor, since he seemed to know what was going on in the place he was in, which he was unable to recall. He tilted his head in wonderment.

"We'll have to teach you both how to speak, obviously. But you should both be able to grasp the concept relatively easily. Damian has already been trying to speak." The doctor looked at Shawn. "Can you stand?"

Shawn looked at the doctor, confused. He sat up and looked at his legs before attempting to stand. As he stood, his heart raced as if he were to be attacked. He was surprised that he stood.

"Ah! Good, Shawn. Follow me, both of you." He began walking toward the area he was just standing in a few minutes ago. "Now, we're not going to have you start wearing clothes, just yet, you weren't used to them as animals, and you will not be used to them now. You may find them constricting even when you do get used to them. What we will do is find some loose fitting clothes so that you can get yourself acclimated to the modern way of life."

Damian watched and listened to the doctor as he explained what was going on. His head twitched about as he looked around the room. He saw a fly buzzing around lazily, and he flicked out his tongue and snatched it out of the air. "Clothes," he tried to say, but all that came out was the high pitched grunt.

Shawn watched Damian, a lizard, and he began to think of having him for prey, not really listening to the doctor.

Damian saw out of his left eye the cat-man, Shawn, staring at him. Unknown to him, his penis had grown hard knowing that the other was watching him eat the fly. He looked back to the doctor, who was still explaining something.

The doctor had turned around and seen Damian's hardness. Not missing a beat, and not commenting, he continued speaking to the two animal-men. "What we have done is devised a chemical compound that normally proves fatal when put into contact with animals, but when successful . . . well," he motioned to the two before him as if their mere presence finished the rest of that statement. "I realize I will have to say all this again once we have taught you how to speak, but we must speak to you as often as we can to see how quickly you catch on." Shawn looked at the doctor and heard the last part, not knowing what was happening.

"Well, I'm sure you are both exhausted from being an animal one moment and being a mutant the next. I will show you to your quarters." He began walking toward their room. "Since you are both part of the same experiment, we will have you bunking together, in the same room, mind you." Their room was not very far away from the testing facility. The doctor opened the door so they could go inside."

Damian followed the doctor, looking around curiously, his erection dissipating. He understood what the doctor was saying, but it was still jumbled and disconnected. When he saw the beds, Damian walked over to the one on the right and laid down on his stomach, which he was used to.
