A little more of Stone's past is revealed as the story continues.

"I was so empty knowing that I could never forgive them for what they done to my mate." Stone lamented under his breath. "The pain I felt had never really subsided and left me hating their kind. In turn I would bring them to understand what it felt like to know hurt and feel that sorrow which I have grown to know. I'd make them regret. Regret for hurting me so deeply." Stone paused for a moment to look at the sky, among the growing trails of smoke rising in the distance, remembering how the War of Pride started.

The morning was usual for Stone as he awoke next Tiffani. It was almost nine o clock and the peace talks between fox and wolf kind were about to commence. "Hon, its about time to wake up." Stone spoke while nuzzling with Tiffani's shoulder. "Mmm. Five more minutes." "Okay but don't blame me if you get left." "Oh shut up and go get ready." Tiffani said playfully. "I ought to tell you that. I wake up as handsome as I did when I went to bed." joked Stone in an effort to get a rise out of Tiffani. "Ha ha, that's so funny. I can't believe I ever bonded with you. I mean what was I thinking?" Stone laughed as he moved closer to Tiffani's ear to whisper, "I remember thinking you were the most beautiful woman I've ever seen." "I'm not falling for that trick again" replied Tiffani as she giggled. "You said that before if I remember correctly. Like the time we-" Stone laughed. "-had our fun out back. Remember that?" Tiffani tries not to laugh and turns over to face Stone, "Remind me?" "Come on." Stone said, kissing Tiffani before standing up. "Right now we really need to get ready." Tiffani moaned shortly before getting out of bed. "You're no fun"

Later...

Stone stepped off the armored humvee with Tiffani following closely behind him as he entered the wolven embassy building. "Tell me again why you wanted to come along?" Stone asked as he proceeded up the short set of stairs. "You said the dignitaries were bringing their families right? I figured if I met some of them you would see that they aren't all that bad." "Okay, okay I get it." Stone said after giving Tiffani a kiss on her cheek. "It's almost show time." "You be good now, okay?" "Aren't I always" Stone said with a smile before ascending the stairs to the upper floor.

As Stone walked by the two wolven guards at the door, he gave them a nod of approval to begin letting the visiting parties into the meeting room. The room was a shade of gray with matching black and silver checkered carpeting. A large rectangular silver table sat with six chairs to its sides with a single leather bound chair at the head that sat near the window. Stone had barely sat down when the door opened and in came the foxen delegates with selected members of the press behind them. After all paw shakes and pleasantries were exchanged, Stone leaned forward in his chair to begin the meeting. "I'd like to start by bidding welcome to our foxen brethren-" Stone said while offering a round of applause. "-and hope that they are enjoying our hospitality." Stone said with a smile. "I would also like to thank them for bringing their families with them, as a sign of trust, so that those watching can see for themselves that fox and wolf kind can indeed coexist in peace." A few cameras flashed as Stone proceeded with the meeting.

Meanwhile Tiffani was out in the commons area. A little vixen with the cutest smile was talking to her. Tiffani giggled as the little one commented on how she was taller than her mother and that how she had never seen a wolf before in her life. "You're just so adorable" Tiffani said while admiring the little cub. "And what's your name little one?" she said, smiling all the while. "I'm Emily" the little cub said while taking a bow. "My, my, you're a perfect little lady, and cute too." Tiffani said before looking at the child's mother, "How'd you get to be so lucky?"

A single wolf bearing a suit case made his way past the security station and sat on a chair across Tiffani and the foxen visitors. He watched with disdain as Tiffani visited with the foxes and calmly set the brief case down beside him. A fake smile emerged on his face as he played the crowd as pawns in a game that has yet to begin.

"Do you have a little one of your own?" Emily's mother asked after shaking paws with Tiffani.

Tiffani moaned, "Sadly I don't. But if I did I hope she turns out to be like your daughter."

"Ah-" the vixen lamented. "-a child can be a blessing and a curse."

"It can't be all that bad, can it?" Tiffani said while looking back at Emily. "I'd love to have one of my own one day. And hope she's just as adorable as--"

Back in the meeting room Stone stopped speaking as the building rumbled. "What was that!?" he asked as two guards came into the room. "We're under attack, sir. We need to get you to safety." "What? By who?" Stone asked as he jumped up from his seat to look outside. Another explosion rocked the building as Stone clung onto the window frame. The crowd that had gathered outside were now running away as a force of foxen origin began assaulting the building. "Sir we have to go, now!" the guard spoke as he pulled Stone from the room. "I'm not leaving without Tiffani!" "There's no time. We need to leave." "Tiffani!!!" ******

"Must be tough-"Jillian said, breaking Stone out of his haze as she sat beside him. "-living with the guilt I mean." "What would you know about guilt?" Stone snarled as he turned his gaze to Jillian. "Don't lecture me about trust as if I were a child." "I know that lies aren't very healthy, no matter how old, in a relationship." Jillian said as Stone sat quiet. "Yet you managed to fall in love with a vixen who 'was' in love with a wolf she thought she knew." "I have my reasons for omitting certain truths." "Yeah? And what reason is that?" Jillian asked while taking a cigarette from the pack in her side pocket. "Did it ever occur to you that you're toying with another's life?" "I don't have to explain myself to you, wolf." Stone said with disdain. "You weren't there when it happened." "True, I wasn't there" Jillian said while lighting her cig. "But I'm a woman too, you know. I have feelings the same as she does. I know what it's like to be hurt." "Have you ever lived with guilt as long as I have?" "Can't rightly say I have." Jillian spoke as she took a puff. "But it still is fucked up doing that to a person. A girl likes her mate to be a little mysterious but what you've done?" Jillian said as she shook her head. "That's downright cruel if you ask me." "Stone?" came Tiffani's voice as she emerged from the coffee shop's door. Stone gets up and walks over to Tiffani, "You feeling better?" he asked as he offered a hug. "I...need some time, okay?" Tiffani said pushing Stone away. "Okay, I understand" "We should really get moving to that rally point" Jillian said as she flicked away a half smoked cigarette. "The sooner the better." "You have a radio?" Stone asked as he walked back over to stand beside Jillian. "Lost that in the skirmish earlier." "So no go on the radio. Well I hope you know how to swim because we're in the shit, up to here" Stone said as he raised his paw over his head. "Unless one of you knows how to hotwire a car?" " I don't know. I might've seen it done on TV" Jillian said with a hint of sarcasm. "What about you?" she asks while turning to Tiffani. " Do you know how to hotwire a vehicle?" "Sorry." "Great, just great." Jillian spoke as she paced past Stone. "I guess we have to hoof it all the way--hey, where you going?" Jillian asked as Stone walked by. A short way down the block Stone stood in front of a truck as Jillian and Tiffani came walking up. Jillian looks at the weathered aqua green paint of the rugged looking Chevrolet Z71 and then at the large Chevy sticker on the back window. "Why not a nice sports car?" she asked while watching Stone check the interior. "It would be faster." "You see the street?" Stone asked while looking for the keys. "Yeah so?" "A sports car would be the ideal choice but given the state of the road, a truck would serve better." "But we'd be a larger target." "True-" Stone said as he checked the glove compartment. "-but we'd also be a little more armored. Get it?" "I think." "Got it!" Stone said as he produced the key. "Good" Jillian replied as she climbed into the truck bed. "Let's get rollin'." Stone stopped for a moment and looks at Tiffani shortly before offering his paw, "Tish?" "I...I..." Tiffani stammered. "I don't know what to think anymore." "I love you." Stone said while placing his paw on Tiffani's shoulder. "I always will." "Hey, lover wolves!" came Jillian's voice from above, "You can talk on the way." "She's right. We need to be leaving." said Stone. Tiffani nodded as she began climbing into the truck through the drivers side. After saddling up Stone heard Jillian pound on the roof to signal that she was ready. "Get your motor runnin'" Jillian sang as Stone started the truck. "Head out on the highway! Lookin' for adventure. And whatever comes our way!" "Hang on!" Stone yelled as he kicked the truck into first gear. "Let's not keep Igor waiting."
