Chapter I

When Tiamatus was born, he had everything a hatchling could want. He had a loving mother and father, as well as several siblings, and he was born healthy with absolutely no deformities. Tiamatus was the lucky child of his clutch of brothers and sisters, for he had inherited his mother's coloring, a beautiful sleek silver that gave them their clan name, the Silverwings. But alas, fate dealt young Tiamatus a cruel hand. Both of his parents were fierce warriors, and Tiamatus was not. He was quiet, shy, almost always preferring to do things by himself. He would not even participate in the mock battles that his brothers and sisters played.

It was a large surprise to poor young Tiamatus when he awoke one day to find not only his parents, but his entire family and clan gone. Unlike others might do, Tiamatus did not cry in despair and lose hope. In fact, Tiamatus reacted in much the opposite way. He knew since the day he hatched that he was different from the others, and that his parents did not approve of him. Though he didn't like his parents for what they did, he did not hate them. He had been the first of his clutch to not only fly, but to take down his first kill as well, so he knew that he would survive. However, he had no home of his own, nor was he yet big and strong enough to hold land of his own. Any challenger could easily brush him aside at this point in his life.

So it was that Tiamatus wandered through life with no direction, each year gaining more in size, weight, and strength. It wasn't until his fiftieth birthday that his electric personality came through. While he was bathing in a small stream, he got the sudden sensation that he was itching all over his body. Bright sparks flashed and snapped from his body, and yelling out in surprise, an arc of electricity flew from his mouth, striking a nearby tree and burning it from the inside out. The tree slowly began to topple, and when it struck the ground, it shattered into hundreds of burning cinders.

For the next fifty years, Tiamatus continued sadly through life, living with no purpose except to take up space and oxygen. But at last, Tiamatus' life changed in a spectacular way. He had stopped at a local Inn named the 'Red Dragon Inn' so that he could rest his wings and possibly get something to eat. He was lying next to the fire when another dragon approached him. This dragon was a male, and very clearly a warrior, defined by the many scars that lined his body. Tiamatus was intimidated by him, but said nothing, looking up at him. He was larger than Tiamatus was, looking to be approximately ninety feet in length, and he was covered in sapphire blue scales. "I've not seen you around here before young one." He said politely. "My name is Aurthur Shimmerscale." Tiamatus stared dumbly up at Aurthur for a moment, unsure how to respond. No one had ever paid attention to him before, let alone talk to him.

"My name is Tiamatus Silverwing." He said quietly, bowing his head respectfully. "What can I do for you, Aurthur?" Aurthur looked him over carefully, circling around him, assessing him from tail to teeth. At last, Aurthur nodded.

"You seemed lost, staring into the flames like that." Aurthur said, making Tiamatus jump. "My mate and I run an orphanage......Would you like to come live with us, and be employed as one of our guards?" Tiamatus' heart leapt into his throat, and for the longest time, he didn't say anything. A family, a profession, a purpose! He was so happy, he could barely speak, so he just nodded his head. "If you'll come with me, Tiamatus, I'll take you to your new home."

Aurthur led him on a short flight to their home. Though he was larger and stronger than Tiamatus, he was not nearly as fast, nor as graceful in flight. However, all of that meant nothing when the came into view of the Shimmerscale Orphanage. It was truly an amazing sight to behold. A massive cave was cut into the mountain side behind a stunning waterfall that cascaded down into a beautiful deep blue lake below, concealing the entrance to the orphanage. Tiamatus watched as Aurthur flew through the waterfall, and he took it as his sign to follow. As he landed inside, he found Aurthur kissing a beautiful ice dragoness. She was slightly smaller than Aurthur, and much more slender. Tiamatus blushed and turned his head away.

"Tiamatus, I would like you to meet my beautiful mate, Icer. My love, this is Tiamatus. I met him at the Inn. He's going to be staying with us for awhile and working as one of our guards." Tiamatus didn't know what to say. He had never seen an ice dragoness before.

"It's good to meet you, Tiamatus. I hope that you will treat our home as your own while you are with us." Tiamatus felt his cheeks heating up, and his gaze leveled upon the ground. "Speaking of guards, it is your shift, my dearest Aurthur. I will show our guest to his room and get him settled. Don't give me that look, darling. He's tired and needs to rest. He can start his duties tomorrow." After a kiss, Aurthur took off out of the lair and Icer led him further back into the lair, and spaced along the walls were luminescent globes to light the way. The main chamber was nothing compared to the rest of the orphanage. He was lead past a large playroom that was completely padded from the ceiling to the roof, filled with things that children could climb in or on. They also went by many other rooms, carefully carved into the stone. Icer stopped at last at an empty room. "The curtain you can drape over the entryway. It blocks out all sound, so that you may have privacy. It also locks to the wall and acts as a door. Now you get some rest, young man." He stared at her in disbelief as she walked away, before turning to study his room. It wasn't large, but then again it didn't have to be. It had a bed made of soft blankets, and that's all he really needed. He laid down on his bed, realizing now how tired he was. He closed his eyes and drifted to slumber.

*********************

Two weeks had gone by, and Tiamatus had settled into a regular schedule. He took a shift guarding the orphanage in the afternoon, ending his shift in the late evening. This way, he could have the rest of the evening to go out or just go to sleep. He journeyed to the Inn from time to time, studying the different creatures he encountered. He was happy that he had a home and a purpose, but after a while, he began to grow lonely. Even with all the dragons around him, the loneliness grew. He spent more and more time alone in his room.

But one day, something different happened. After a late running shift, he was headed down the hall to his room when he saw a white tail enter a room. He had not seen a white dragon here before, so he went to inquire of the dragon's identity, as was his duty as a guard. When he rounded the corner, he caught a flash of beautiful blue eyes before the door closed. He did not pursue her (Now he was certain it was a female) further. If she knew how to work the lair's magic, she must be a resident, but still, he wanted to know who she was........

Upon asking Icer, (who had insisted that he call her mother) she told him that she was their daughter Snowpearl. In return, she asked him why he had wanted to know, and he answered her truthfully. That he had seen her enter one of the rooms. No more was said about it, and life went on as usual. After that first glimpse, he began to see her more and more often, and it was almost always in the same place at the same time. She was always sitting on the cliffs edge, high above the entrance to the Orphanage, looking up at the stars at night. While on duty, he would often see her leave the orphanage at dusk and fly to her spot, and she stayed there until well after he got off shift. Several times when he was passing on a routine check, he would look at her, and from the distance, it almost looked as if she were looking at him.

He drifted closer and closer over the weeks, because he was mesmerized by her beauty, the way that her body shined in the moonlight. But when he got to where he could clearly see her face, he was amazed at what he saw. It was Sadness......It was loneliness just like his. Those beautiful blue eyes were dim, and he could clearly see the tears on her cheeks, and it brought tears to his own eyes. And then......she looked up at him, catching his eyes. He immediately felt ashamed, as though he were spying on her. His shift ended and he retired to his room for the night.

He was awakened early the next morning by a shriek of terror. He sprang immediately from his bed and ran out the door and down the hallway. He could hear other's running to the scene, and he was lucky to be the third one out, directly behind Icer and Aurthur. Tiamatus could see a huge red wyvern circling and diving down at a dragon, and he was terrified to find that it was Snowpearl! She must have stayed out later than usual, but why was there a wyvern here? Snowpearl dipped and dived, trying to get out of range of the wyvern's attacks, but it followed her every move. With a roar of rage, Icer opened her maw and breathed heavily a blast of icefire, a breath weapon used by ice dragons. The aim was dead on, but the wyvern dodged out of the way, flipping in such a way that the beast's tail smashed into Snowpearl. She began to fall, and she was too far away to be caught by Icer or Aurthur, who were in hot pursuit of the wyvern, driving it away. Tiamatus, however, was close enough. He had always been fast, and he used his natural ability to speed through the air as fast as his wings could carry him. Before she could hit the ground, Tiamatus caught her in his arms, grunting with the effort to fly in a straight line. His toes scraped down on the ground, but he managed to gain altitude at last, rising up to call after Icer. "Mother, I have Snowpearl, she is safe!" He looked down and saw that Snowpearl was still conscious, and her blue eyes were barely open.

"You......saved me.......And I don't even know who you are......" Her eyes closed, and she fell limp in his arms. He stared down at her worriedly, and carried her back to the lair. He went to the room he had seen her enter when he had first seen her. Her room was a little larger than his own, but it was just as bare, containing only the same bed of soft blankets. He laid her down gently upon the bed, covering her up. He felt that he should leave, but he couldn't. Oh how he wished he had gotten there sooner, how he wished he could have prevented her from being hurt. He reached out his paw to touch hers, to try to comfort her, but he pulled his claw back and sat next to her bed. He would make it up to her. He would sit by her bed until she awoke. He would take care of her, for as long as it took for her to be healthy again. Icer and Aurthur walked by the room and saw him sitting there with her, and they smiled to one another. Their daughter was in good hands with Tiamatus, and they went on their way.

It wasn't until two days after the attack that Snowpearl finally awoke. Tiamatus had stayed there the entire time, not moving from her bedside. He was asleep now though, and the first thing that Snowpearl saw when she awoke was him. The silver dragon that she had watched circle the lair on duty, the one whom she had closed her door on, and her savior. He had rescued her from smashing into the ground after the wyvern had attacked her. And he had sat there next to the bed with her.......he was as sweet as he was handsome. She tried to get up, but gave a cry of pain, her side still hurt badly. As soon as she cried out, Tiamatus' eyes sprang open, and he looked over to her, and it was then that she saw his eyes for the first time. A sterling silver that matched the sleek silver scales of his body, they were gorgeous. "Who are you?" She asked quietly, breathlessly.

"My name is Tiamatus Silverwing. I am one of the guards of your parent's orphanage." He gave such a simple answer that it sounded almost dutiful to her. But his next words caught her completely off guard. "I have seen you many a night while I was on duty, sitting atop the cliff there, looking up at the stars. You had sadness in your eyes.......A sadness that I can relate to. It was loneliness, wasn't it?" Before she could answer him, her parents pushed into the room, and Tiamatus bowed his head respectfully before he exited the room. Part of her didn't want him to go, but she answered her parents questions and nuzzled them affectionately in return as the poured over her with worry, asking her how she was and this and that, the usual parental coddling. However, her mind was not on her parents. Her mind was on her silver eyed savior. Where had he come from? Why had she never noticed him before? These questions nagged her, and she wondered why she even cared to begin with. Perhaps it was what he had said....." I have seen you many a night while I was on duty, sitting atop the cliff there, looking up at the stars. You had sadness in your eyes.......A sadness that I can relate to. It was loneliness, wasn't it?" The words were so true.......how could she deny them? She had always been lonely.......even as hatchling. She had been brought to this place by accident, and through the same accident, she had grown from hatchling to fully grown within a matter of days.

What was it that she felt inside, after meeting this dragon who had watched her while she was unconscious, who had saved her from death at the wyvern's claws? She had to know, she had to see him again..........

Chapter II

Tiamatus circled over the lair in quick, rising spirals, looking in all directions for any sign of the wyvern, or anything at all, larger or small, that could have been a threat. Seeing nothing, he did a lazy turn to soar back above the entrance to the lair, and let a startled gasp of surprise as a streak of white pulled up in front of him, making Tiamatus backwing sharply, which could easily have caused him to break a wing. Fortunately, this was not the case, and white arks of electricity began to dance across his scales in preparation to attack a threat, when he noticed who it was that had flown in front of him. It was Snowpearl, and when he knew he it was, the electricity immediately died way. "Snowpearl, what are you doing out of the lair? Your mother and father would kill us both if they saw you out here......" His voice spoke not of duty, but of genuine concern for her, and Snowpearl could sense it.

"I want to talk to you, Tiamatus. Tonight.......alone. I know you have your guard duty, but you know well where I sit, and I want you to meet me there after your shift is over......please......" Tiamatus was taken aback by the sound of urgency in her voice, and there wasn't any way he could refuse her, even I he had wanted to. When and only when he nodded his head in agreement did Snowpearl drop down and walk back into the lair. She wanted to know more about him......where he had come from, how he had come to be here.......she want to know Tiamatus Silverwing. She HAD to know him. And there was a feeling deep inside of her that told her that he wanted to know just as much about Snowpearl Shimmerscale.

***************

When his shift first started, Tiamatus was at first worried. What could Snowpearl possibly wish to talk to him about that was so urgent and she needed to see him alone? His mind roamed over the possibilities, but he could come up with nothing solid. He thought so much that his shift was over before he knew it. A large green dragon named Briaus took over for him, and Tiamatus immediately started an upward flight that lead him to where Snowpearl was waiting. He could see her long before he actually got to her, her white body simply glowing in the moonlight. He sucked in a breath and dove, alighting gently on the cliffs edge at what he thought was a respectable distance from her. "I am here Snowpearl......What is it that you want to talk to me about?" She turned and looked into his emerald eyes, just staring, not speaking. She seemed to be thinking about something, or choosing her words, Tiamatus knew not which.

"Tiamatus Silverwing is your name.......that is all I know about you. I never once saw you before you saved my life the other day. And when I woke up, you were sitting next to my bed, watching over me........" She stared deeply into his eyes, her voice nearly pleading. "Tiamatus, why did you stay there with me? I have to know the reason...."

He spoke immediately, telling her nothing but the truth. He couldn't lie to her anymore than he could lie to himself. "I was concerned for your health, Snowpearl. I was afraid......Afraid that if I left your side, something may happen that I couldn't fix. So at your side I stayed." Tiamatus never took his eyes from hers, falling into the pools of blue. He wanted to tell her what he really felt about her. But how could he? They had only just met, and her parents certainly wouldn't approve. He was nothing but a guard, and he didn't have anything to offer her, not even his own home. However, Snowpearl was very perceptive, and she snorted and shook her head, stepping closer to him until her chest nearly touched his, her muzzle only inches away.

"I want you to tell me how you really feel, Tiamatus. I want to hear the words from your heart, not your muzzle. You told me yesterday that you could see that I felt sadness, loneliness. How could you have possibly known that?" Unknown to Tiamatus himself, his breathing had quickened. Having her so close to him, so that he could feel the heat of her body against him, her muzzle so close to his, their eyes locked.....It felt right. He couldn't hide his true feelings from her for long, even if he wanted to. They would leak eventually, and he would rather go through the embarrassment of telling her himself rather than having her find out from a third party.

"I.......Snowpearl, I......" He swallowed and took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. "I knew how you felt because it's the same way I have felt for a long time now. Ever since your mother and father took me in, I have started to feel a deep loneliness. That changed the day that I caught my first glimpse of you.....I even asked your parents who you were. I........." Tiamatus took another deep breath, watching Snowpearl's reaction. "I like you, Snowpearl......a lot. I know I am just a guard.....but......"

"You could be nothing more than a homeless bum, Tiamatus, and it wouldn't make the least bit of difference to me. What matters to me is who YOU are, the real Tiamatus Silverwing. I....like you too, Tiamatus. No one has ever cared for me the way you did......you sat at my side for two days.....I've never.....felt anything like it before."

"I want you to be happy, Snowpearl......It hurts my heart to see you sad and lonely. I truly feel that I have purpose now. At first I thought it was merely to guard your parent's orphanage, but now I know that my true purpose is to make sure that you are happy, and never lonely. Snowpearl......I would like to court you." The words were blurted before he even thought to speak them, and he was shocked at himself, and he recoiled slightly. Snowpearl too jumped in surprise, looking at him in a state of amazement. At first he thought he had misspoke, and was about to leave when Snowpearl all but threw herself at him, wrapping her arms around him and nuzzling her head under his chin. "I would have it no other way, Tiamatus. Of course you can court me." They stayed that way for a long time, Tiamatus holding Snowpearl in his arms underneath the moonlight.

Chapter III

A week had passed since Snowpearl and Tiamatus had started to court one another. Aurthur and Icer were actually quite delighted to hear the news, and immediately moved both of them to one of the shared quarters in their home until they could find a home of their own. Neither Snowpearl nor Tiamatus had ever been happier in their lives, and everyone around them could see it. The way they acted around each other was completely different from the way they were alone. They were very playful with one another and rarely ever seen apart. Snowpearl had even started joining Tiamatus on his guard shift. Tonight, however, Tiamatus was about to do something that would change their lives forever.

Snowpearl, Icer, Aurthur, and Tiamatus had all decided to take an evening to themselves near the lake. They had a picnic of sorts, and spent a lot of time talking to one another. However, Tiamatus laid his paw on Snowpearl's and motioned to the sky with a nod of his head. She took the hint and nodded. They excused themselves from Icer and Aurthur and flew lazily overhead in full view of Snowpearl's parents. "Snowpearl......I want to ask you something. Are you happy with me? I mean, really happy?"

Snow laughed softly and ducked beneath him, nipping at his tail in passing. "What a silly question, Tiamatus. Of course I am happy with you! I have never been happier in my life! When I'm with you, I feel that everything is right and perfect, the way it should be. Why on earth would you ask me such a silly question?" She stared at him every time they passed by one another in flight. There was a hint of worry, and possibly even fear in her voice.

"I......don't want to court you anymore, Snowpearl." Her shock very nearly took her out of the air as she started violently, angling her wings to right her flight. Tiamatus saw tears forming in her eyes, and he quickly shook his head, backwinging and hovering before her. "No, my dear Snowpearl, it isn't what you think it is. It's just that.......I can't stand it any longer. I don't want anyone else in my life, you are everything I need. I want you to be my mate, that is why I don't want to court you anymore." He saw the realization of his words strike home, and now tears did flow from her eyes, but they were not tears of sadness. They were tears of utter joy. On an unspoken agreement, Snowpearl began to spiral higher and higher into the air, with Tiamatus close by.

"Oh my goodness......Aurthur, look." Icer said, pointing up at the spiraling pair of dragons, watching as they circled higher and higher. "They are beginning their mateship flight......Isn't it wonderful?" Aurthur lifted his eyes to the sky, and he nodded, his chest seeming to puff out with pride. "I remember our mateship flight, Aurthur. But I had always wondered what it looked like to see it from this angle. Our daughter has chosen her mate......"

"Let us watch them, and pray that they have as wonderful a life as we do, my beloved Icer." Aurthur kissed her cheek and covered her paw with his own as they watched.

Tiamatus caught up with Snowpearl once, and they embraced in their air for but the briefest of moments before pushing away, falling just a little bit before rising to circle around each other again. At the height of their climb, they met and embraced each other, grasping the others fore and rear claws together. Tiamatus folded his wings around Snowpearl, and together, they began the breathtaking fall that would test their faith to one another. The ground was rushing up to meet them at a frightening pace, and yet, neither of them let go. Their love was pure and true and neither would let go. Tiamatus squeezed her claw lightly and unfurled his wings from around her, letting her claws go and pushing away. Both pairs of wings cupped the air, and the new mates passed harmlessly inches above the ground. They landed near to one another and immediately embraced. They had never kissed before, until now. Tiamatus kissed her deeply, passionately, his heart filled with joy absolute. After years of loneliness and emptiness, they had found each other at last.

*******************

It wasn't until a few days later that they had actually begun to talk about a family. Tiamatus had taken some time from his guard duties to look for a home for Snowpearl and himself, and he was away quite often, leaving Snowpearl with her parents. Snowpearl never mentioned anything of a family to Icer and Aurthur, but they could tell she missed him by the way her wings drooped and she constantly looked towards the entrance waiting for him. At last, he arrived an walked into her room, and Snowpearl immediately threw herself at him, kissing him deeply over and over again. When she finally calmed, Tiamatus sat her down and told her of the lair that he had found. It was not as majestic as her parent's home, but a rocky outcropping concealed the cave completely. He took her there, and she was disappointed at first to find it a single, small room. But Tiamatus had promised to dig it out to be more than adequate for them, and she knew that he was speaking the truth.

Less than a week later, Tiamatus had dug the cave out, and now instead of one small room, there was a large main chamber, and three adjourning rooms that would be the private quarters, or used for storage. "This is our home......" Snowpearl said in wonder, wandering from room to room. Tiamatus nodded and followed her throughout the lair. "Tiamatus, we can have a family now......" She stared at him, noting not for the first time how irresistibly handsome he was. Snowpearl had never mated in her life before, but she felt the urge, the heat deep within her core. "Tiamatus......which room is to be ours?" She asked the question innocently, and Tiamatus thought nothing of it as he took her to the largest of the rooms he had dug out.

As soon as they had entered, Snowpearl turned on him and jumped upon him, kissing his elegant neck, her talons digging into his sides. Tiamatus was at first surprised, but he purred deeply and arched his neck to her, gripping her tightly to him. He had wanted her as badly as she had wanted him, but he wanted the moment to be perfect. And to the both of them, now was that moment. They had their home, and they had each other. Tiamatus scraped his claws along Snowpearl's sides, and she hissed in pleasure. In this way, he found that she liked rough play. He bit at her shoulders and neck as he ground his body against hers, his cock slipped from his sheath and settled against her inner thighs. She could feel the heat of his member, and she ground against him, biting his neck in return as her slick sex worked against him.

After long moments of their foreplay, Snowpearl rose off of Tiamatus, and she turned her back to him, lifting her tail in open invitation, revealing her wet, swollen sex to him. Tiamatus rolled to his feet and panted hungrily. The scent of her heat was almost overwhelmingly delicious, and he approached her, but he did not mount her. He stuck his muzzle under her tail and lapped at her sex hungrily, making her groan loudly in pleasure and buck against his muzzle. He slid his tongue from her clit to the bottom of her moist folds before he pushed his tongue into her depths, making her cry out in pleasure. She pushed her body back against his tongue, trying to force him deeper inside of her, but it wasn't enough. She wanted him inside of her.

She pulled away from his wonderful tongue and growled over her shoulder at him, lifting her tail once again. Tiamatus was more than ready at this point, his member fully exposed and throbbing in anticipation. He climbed over her back carefully, the tip of his cock at her moist entrance. He gathered her slickness on his member, pressing against her until the tip popped into her, and they both uttered a hiss of pleasure. Tiamatus pressed forward until he felt the resistance of her virginity, his member only half within her. She looked over her shoulder at him and pressed her lips against his hungrily, and at that moment, he forced his hips forward, burying himself completely within her. She whimpered in pain into their kiss, but Tiamatus never broke it, and he held himself steady within her. Her body relaxed after a few moments, and the kiss was broken. The pain faded away, and she growled at him to continue, and he did so immediately. Sharp, quick thrusts pushed him deep within her, and she pushed back against him just as eagerly, unsure of how long she could stand with his weight on her back and the pleasure that was coursing through her body. His talons dug sharply into her rump, the pleasure/pain almost more than she could stand. The two dragons quickly got into a rhythm, fucking each other while abusing the others body with sharp nips and cuts. Snowpearl could feel Tiamatus' member swelling within her, and she panted heavily with her tongue half out of her mouth. "Tiamatus........pleeeeease..........I want to start a family.......I want all of you......." Tiamatus did not have to ask her what she meant. His hips pounded into hers now, and he was close to his release. When he was ready to cum, he leaned forward and snatched her throat in his jaws, marking her as his mate. With one final thrust, he growled loudly around her throat as he came hard within her depths, his hot draconic seed bursting forth from his tip and into her womb. She felt the searing heat and moaned loudly as she came, her sex squeezing him tightly within her body, milking him for everything he had to give.

After their peaks had subsided, Tiamatus pulled out of her and collapsed next to her, holding her in his arms. He nuzzled her lightly, and she laid against him, exhausted. She could still feel his hot seed in her womb, and she knew that before long she would bear at least one egg........and she could be no happier. They were together, they had a home, and most importantly, they had each other. Sighing softly, she tucked her head under her mate's chin, and drifted to sleep. Tiamatus stayed awake a little bit longer, wondering how he had been so lucky to meet her. His claw gripped hers tightly, and he draped his wing over them both so that they could both sleep comfortably throughout the day.
