The sun had started to rise over the high rises of Neon City and soon fell upon the arm fur of Stone. The heat caused by the sun causes Stone to stir from his sleep. His eyes were heavy as he began to shift around a little more. The body of the vixen next to him had kept them both warm through out the night.

Stone stretched a little more before suddenly jumping to his feet. His back began to cramp and he rushed to lean against the wall before the pain got any worse.

Tiffani was leaning against Stone before he moved so suddenly and stirred her from her sleep. "Cramp? She utters shortly before yawning.

Stone was still reeling from the pain and almost didn't answer. "Yeah. Real bad one too. Almost made my eyes water."

"You sleep okay?" Tiffani asked as she rose to her feet.

"Next to you? Who wouldn't?" Stone joked before feeling the sharp pain in his back once more.

"Here" Tiffani said as she rubbed his lower back. "Let me help you."

Her soft palms gently kneaded the cramping muscles on Stone's back , "Oh my god your so stiff" she commented before intensifying her rubs.

"If only I had a knife right now" joked Stone.

"I'm amazed nothing snapped yet"

"A little lower"

Tiffani moved her massaging lower, "Right here?"

"Yeah that works."

After awhile Stone felt the pain subside and looks around. The blown out coffee shop had done the trick for the night but was still too out in the open.

"I'm surprised we made it through the night." Stone commented.

"Why?" asked Tiffani as she looked over Stone's shoulder.

"Babe, we're in a coffee shop next the street, out in the open and near the front."

"At least we're alive, right? That's all that matters."

"We should really get moving though. Just because we survived the night doesn't mean we're in the clear yet."

"And where would we go?"

"Anywhere but -" Stone stopped speaking and ducked down as a figure came into view from across the street.

"Wha-" uttered Tiffani as she was pulled down by Stone.

"Shh!"

Across the street stood a lone figure.

"What is it?" whispered the shaking vixen.

"It's a soldier."

"One of ours?"

"If by that you mean a fox? Then no. It's a wolf." Stone commented while sniffing the air. "A female too." Raising up from behind cover Stone whistled sharply to catch the soldiers attention.

The soldier turns to Stone with rifle raised and drops it upon seeing a friendly. Stone quickly signals for the soldier to proceed forward and keeps a look out. Within moments the soldier joins the two canines behind the counter of the shop.

"Are there any more of you?" Stone asked while watching the soldier remove her helmet. "There can't be just one of you, right?

"I got separated from my unit." Jillian said after having a drink from her canteen. "We walked right into an ambush."

"So what now?" Tiffani despaired as she dropped to the ground.

Jillian watched Tiffani drop and turns her gaze back to Stone, "I was on my way to the rally-"

"Where?"

"A few miles down the road in-"

"You hear that?' Stone asked turning his gaze back to the street.

A loud growling noise came from somewhere down the right side of the street and was growing louder by the minute. Like something big was coming their way.

"Fuck!" grimaced Jillian as she got into a defensive position beside Stone.

Soon a large figure appeared from around the corner and stopped in front of the coffee shop. The thing was as big a dump truck and appeared to be armored. At first it had ran on all fours but now was walking upright and was looking around.

"I take it you seen one of these 'goliaths' before?" Stone whispered while watching the beast for any signs that it picked up their scent.

"Just one of those things fucked up my unit." Jillian whispered. "And it wasn't a pretty picture let me tell you."

"You got enough bullets-" Stone said gazing at Jillian before nodding in the goliaths direction, "-to bring that thing down?"

"Are you kidding me? I'd only piss that thing off."

"Any bright ideas because now would be the perfect time."

The ground rumbled as the beast looked overhead and seen a chopper heading down the street. In response the beast follows it leaving indentations where it stepped as it headed off.

"Any ideas where our friend is headed?" asked Stone as he walked to the store's front and peered out the door.

"I was about to say, before being interrupted, that the rally point is in the direction our friend Igor is heading." replied Jillian as she lowered her guard.

"What we need is a vehicle." Stone said as he returned to the counter area. "You know how to hotwire a vehicle, miss...?"

"McKnight, Jillian McKnight, soldier of the 2nd Battalion, Foxen Army. And you are?" Jillian asked while resting her frame against the counter.

"Stone Black Wolf. And this is my girlfriend-" points to the vixen on the floor, "Tiffani."

"Black Wolf? As in thee Black Wolf?" Jillian uttered in excitement. "The wolf who started the War of Pride?"

Tiffani stood up and brushed her self off, "What is she talking about?"

Stone shot Jillian a menacing look. "I think she has the wrong wolf, am I right?" Stone said with a demeaning tone in his voice.

Jillian looked at Tiffani for a moment before looking back at Stone and uttered, "Could be just a coincidence."

"For a second there you made it sound like he was that cruel hearted wolf from long ago. I mean as long as I've known him he has never done anything really wrong." Tiffani commented.

Stone stood silent for a moment. He had never heard his name spoken with such joy and from a wolf under foxen command no less.

Stone leans against the wall, "How do you know that name?"

"All soldiers have been given the task to look for a wolf by that name. Intel has placed him somewhere inside Neon City and since you have the same name, I just assumed-"

"Right and you assumed he was me." Stone grumbled. "Hate to disappoint you but-"

Jillian retorted, "I found your tags earlier."

"I don't know what you're talking about" Stone uttered breaking his gaze away from Jillian.

By now Tiffani was left standing with her ears twitching about her head. "Um...Jillian, is it? What are you talking about?"

Jillian smiled a sarcastic smile. "Lover wolf here-" she said with a nod in Stones direction, "-neglected to tell you about his past, did he?"

Tiffani thinks about it and gives Stone a look of concern. "Care to elaborate?"

"So now you're on her side?" Stone grimaced. "I don't believe you."

"I only asked. What's the problem?"

"The problem babe, is that I'd rather not get into it right now."

"Why?"

Stone lowered his gaze to the floor and sighed. "I'm not that wolf anymore. Okay so drop it."

Bewildered, Tiffani turns to Jillian, "Tell me it's not true?"

"I'm afraid so." Jillian replied while looking at Stone. "Sorry you had to find out this way."

Tiffani dropped to the ground and sat quietly trying to hold back the tears forming under her eyes. It was at this moment when everything began to make some sense. Almost poetic if history was correct.

Tiffani had learned about the War of Pride back in high school and never really gave it any thought. She had done a report about the wolves first assault on Neon City but never figured Stone to be 'that' wolf. A cold hearted wolf who brazenly lead the HK units into battle. A tyrant if not legend.

But that was a long time ago.

Tiffani sniffled and looked at Stone. "Tell me its not true." Tiffani said while hoping it wasn't.

"I just said-" Jillian uttered before being cut off by Tiffani.

"I need to hear it from his lips."

Stone swallowed hard and looked at Tiffani, her soft green eyes meeting his gaze telling him that she wanted to hear the truth. No matter how bitter.

"I am Stone Black Wolf, former leader of the wolven nation. Fa-" Stone stopped speaking to watch the vixens reaction.

Tiffani lowered her gaze as a tear fell to the ground, shattering a bond built on lies and deception. She didn't want to hear anymore.

Stone folded his ears back in response and now stood in shame. The sobs of the vixen tearing at his soul just like his own did so long ago.

"Tiffani---I'm sorry. I just...I didn't want to hurt you."

Jillian knelt beside Tiffani, patting her on the shoulder shortly before giving the shaking vixen a comforting hug. "I think you've done enough" Jillian said while looking at Stone.

"Fuck!" Stone yelled before storming off outside.

Stone sat down on the curb and lowered his head before sighing and closing his eyes. "When a wolf lies, he murders some part of the world."
