Human Origins Chapter 1: Beginnings

Hello, fellow humans and furs, after letting this story sit on sofurry for awhile while I worked out some problems in real life, I felt the need to revise it a little bit and add a little bit of detail. Comments are appreciated and are welcome. I sincerely hope you enjoy my series. =3

"Such a weak soul is unfit to be my successor, leave my presence before I change my mind and wipe out your life from history."

Those words were still fresh in my mind as I walk through the forest, day after day endlessly bathed in the moonlight thanks to... him. My name is Luxikam. I'm an exiled prince from the kingdom of Ashtar and what you would call a rare breed of werewolf. My fur is a pure white, and radiates with moonlight, which only serves to compliment my eyes of silver. One of my close friends Aexis would say my pupils disappear when I'm focused, but I never really took the time out to look.

Aexis.... oh how I miss him, and it's all my father's fault. It was only 2 days ago...

I had just finished my martial arts training with Aexis, one of the few things I was actually better than him at. He has quite the competitive spirit, compared to my rather pacifist spirit, and that would often show in the way we would train. His style fed off of aggression and power, while my style fed off grace and precision. However, despite our skill at fighting we would never use it unless we needed to defend ourselves.

Aexis, having been born around 3 years after me came to look up to me like a big brother, taking every class I did, talking to me every time he had the chance, and training with me. Growing up with him, Aexis would often talk about how jealous he was of my royal blood, which I told him time and time again that it's something I would gladly pass onto him. I never knew my mother's side of the bloodline, which I'm assuming is where I got the white fur from since I look nothing like my father.

As to the reason why, Father told me that shortly after I was born, she was exiled for treason. I understood treason was a serious offense, but I thought my parents would be a bit more forgiving of each other, or that my mother wasn't capable of doing such an act without a good reason. Whenever I tried to ask people for more information about the type of person my mother was, my father would find out, and punish me, so I stopped wondering about it.

"At least with all this training, our kingdom as a whole will get stronger." Aexis commented. I nodded in agreement, since with the help of the moon stone my father acquired, the entire kingdom and the forest surrounding it was always night, and the moon gave us energy to keep on training.

Training back when we were pups was easy, compared to now. Back then we only trained for a 3 hours at best, but now we were training about 6 hours a day. Also I noticed that we weren't the only ones who were training. Almost the entire kingdom was training regularly, after being required by my father.

I know that my father has talked about how much he likes having a strong kingdom, and how much it helps improve morale and pride, but I feel that there is more to it than just that. Lately Father has been meeting with the military commanders very often. I wasn't allowed in the meetings, but the look of excitement, and thirst for blood on some of the attendees was more then enough to convince me that a war was going to happen soon.

It seemed that whatever kingdom we were attacking was going to be large if it needed this many fighters. It would also most likely be human, since Father always had a hatred for humans. Most of humans believe they are the dominant species, but my father believed they need to be put in their proper place, something I had little interest in settling.

"Aexis, Your majesty requests a word with you."

One of the royal guards stated. Aexis nodded and followed the guard to the throne room, and purely out of curiosity, and lack of anything better to do, followed him. I wish I hadn't. Aexis went into the throne room alone as was custom. My father has always talked with others on a strict 1 on 1 basis. About 10 minutes of waiting outside was spent, and I was just about to walk away when I heard a loud, painful howl, and no doubt in my mind, that was Aexis.

Punching the guard standing at the entryway of the throne room across his face knocking him unconscious, I ran full-speed into the throne room, but Aexis was gone.... nowhere in sight, and only his clothes remained in front of the throne of a emotionless king in my eyes.

"Where is he? Where is Aexis?!" I cried, ready to pounce at him right then and there, if he refused to tell me. But I knew better, he was a Death Hand, a legendary fighting title, known for the deadly aura around their hands.

"How dare you come in here unannounced, child." He replied back perfectly calm, his facial expression of disdain unchanging. I was unfazed by such a accusation, simply asking him again.

" Where..... is... my... brother?!"

"Ha! That traitor?! One of us?! Nonsense! He is rubble, a disgrace to all of us. How could you call him a brother? While on a scouting mission, his fellow werewolf comrades reported to me, that he had been talking to this human lady, flirtatiously licking her face, and gripping her in a suggestive manner. I shall not stand for such treason on my ground. So he is being punished accor-"

With tears, pain, adrenaline, anger. I punched my father as hard as I could across his face, making him bleed a bit from his muzzle. My victory was short lived however, for I was soon hit across the face with his death hand. The whole left side of my face he touched went numb. The vision of my left eye became nothing but darkness.

That's when he said the words at the outset of my tale.

Although the numbness in my face has went away and my eyesight has returned, my anger towards my father has never been hotter. To punch me, and then exile me... his own son, and to punish my best friend Aexis, just because he liked a human is cruel.

Oh, Aexis... My heart ached in sadness over him, for him to suddenly be gone after years of having such wonderful association with him was like I was missing a part of my soul, for he somewhat filled the void of my mother. The more I thought about how I might never see him again, the more I felt that I would never be whole again. But my most dominant feeling right now and for the past 4 days since my exile, is loneliness. The moon filled that need in some ways, it's rays radiated off my fur like the radiating hope I had that things were going to get better. But even so, the moon has friends, the stars to compliment it's beauty, it's continued presence.

But once I came up to a nice cliff, something grabbed my attention.

Down below me, was a single human, male with brown hair, his hazel eyes sparkling... he looked cold as he was shaking uncontrollably. Although he had a tent, he had no campfire, only adding to what I assumed to be a combination of paranoia, and cold, as he seemed to only have a thin blanket around him. I've seen humans before.. but never have I seen them this vulnerable..

I wanted to get a closer look, but my stomach loudly interrupted my thoughts about this human, it's gurgling in protest to get fed a decent meal. My former werewolf companions have always told me how good human tasted, but on the other hand, I've never killed a human before, especially for food.

So, getting onto my front paws, and slowly beginning my descent, only one question echoed through my mind..

Prey or Companion?
