Training Montage
#9 of Evens and Dante's Adventure in Unova
I don't own Pokémon in any way. This chapter will not progress map wise. A surprise guest will appear somewhere in the story, find them and receive a delicious internet cookie.
Training Montage
Having just received the two eggs from the senior member of team nightfall (unknown to them) Evens and Dante decide to make their way to Robindeen. Zoroark is disguised as a woman again, "so Dante how tough would you say this gym leader is?" "Well her record is four hundred and fifty seven to three." Zoroark looks at Dante confused, "so she lost," "three times." Evens and Zoroark look at Dante with an awe struck look, "she beat that many people of the course of her being a gym leader." Dante shakes his head, "that huge number is her average for a month, she has only ever lost to three people." Evens looks at Zoroark, "guess we are going to have to train pretty hard to stand a chance against her then." The group continues to walk down the route south of Nacrene town. After about four hours of walking the sun stars to set, to their left is an open field. The groups walk into the center of the field, "guess we'll set up camp here." Dante, Evens, Golett, and Dewott set up the tents for everyone. Zoroark, Gothorita, and Galvantula gather firewood. After about twenty minutes the tents are set up and the wood for the fire is all gathered. Golett found some flat stones large enough to sit n and placed them around the fire pit. Evens look at the fire quizzically, "it's been bothering me for the longest time." Dante looks at Evens, "what has?" "Where does the meat that we eat come from?" Dante smirks, "well it's not Pokémon if that's what you're asking, and it comes from cows and other animals native to our world." Evens looks up from the fire and towards Dante, "how did they manage that?" "Well same thing like how we were brought here other things also hitchhiked its way here." Evens is still confused, "so where do they keep them all, I mean I haven't seen any kind of farm since I got here." "The farm is way out in the wilderness, it's just acres of farmland for cows, chickens you name it." "So then what they sell in stores?" "Is known to not come from a Pokémon but from an animal deemed safe to eat by the Wildlife categorization and conservation group, think of it like the FDA from our world." Evens nods his head, "ok so then I take it that they got all that humane killing down." "Pretty much, the government here is a bit stricter on what goes on the dinner table." Evens and Dante cook dinner for everyone. After the meal Dante puts the dirty dishes into a pile, "Gothorita when you were gathering wood did you see a creak anywhere close by?" Gothorita nods, "yes, there is a fresh water spring past the trees over there, and there is enough food around the general area for about a week or two." Evens looks at Gothorita, "why does that matter?" "Dante stands up and stretches, "because tomorrow we start training for that gym battle." Evens nods looking toward his Pokémon, "this is probably going to be the toughest battle we will ever have, so I want everyone to do their best and get stronger so we can win this on the first try." Everyone cheers smiling; after the dishes were done everyone went to sleep.
Morning arrived and Evens was greeted to the feeling of being a body pillow to a certain female Pokémon. Zoroark had managed to entangle herself in both his arms and legs. Moving without waking her was a very difficult task, Evens only managed to free one of his arms before Zoroark woke up. Zoroark had managed to wake up straddling Evens hips with her hands on his chest. Dante opens the door to the tent and stands there in an awkward silence, "sorry if I was interrupting anything, please continue I can wait." He exits the tent leaving Evens and Zoroark in an awkward position, Zoroark embarrassed barriers her head in Evens shoulder, "oh my god, how could that happen?" Evens pets her head reassuringly, "it'll be fine we already know he is used to this kind of thing so it might not be a weird as you might think." Zoroark get up and leaves the tent with Evens, outside a fire is going with food being cooked. Zoroark sees Dante and looks away embarrassed running to the spring, Gothorita follows after. Evens was sitting by the fire silently, Dante patted Evens on the back, "don't worry I know nothing was happening, I was just messing with you." Evens laughs and both of them start on cooking breakfast. Zoroark is by the spring washing her face when Gothorita comes up behind her, "you alright?" Zoroark looks at her reflection, "yeah, I guess." Gothorita sits beside her, "you love him don't you." Zoroark hide her face in her hair, "I think I'm starting to, but I'm worried," "that if he'll turn out to be like the guy who took your mother?" Zoroark nods, Gothorita puts her hand on Zoroark's shoulder, "he's not going to turn out like that, and if he was he would have done something to you by now." Zoroark smiles, "you're right and from what I can tell I don't have to worry anymore." Gothorita stands up smiling, "good because breakfast is ready and you're going to need all of your strength to get past the training course Dante thought up last night."
With breakfast eaten Dante stands in the opposite side of the field, "alright Evens I want your Pokémon to run the circle around the field." Evens looks to his Pokémon, "go for it but be careful we are officially training right now we don't know what could be hiding in the surrounding area." Zoroark, Dewott, and Golett start running into the forest when Dante shots, "except for Golett his training is different from the other two." Zoroark and Dewott continue into the forest, Golett stands in the middle of the field. Dante nods to Gothorita who levitates a few tree trunks into the field after which she disappears into the forest. "Golett will be working on his punches; he has to be able to destroy each tree trunk with one punch if he wants the stand a chance against Escavalier." Evens nods to Golett, "use mega punch on the trunks." Golett charges the closest log and hits it with enough force to shake the ground, but only manages to dent the wood. Meanwhile Zoroark and Dewott are running through the forest dodging falling logs, arrow branches, electorwebs, and energy balls. This goes on for half the day; it turns into the afternoon everyone is allowed to take a breather. Zoroark and Dewott are covered in mud and twigs, Evens can't help but laugh, "ha-ha you guys look ridiculous." Zoroark pushes him off his seat, "you try running through the forest while nature decides to make you the target of a bitch fit!" Dewott uses water gun to wash himself, "Zoroark do you want me to use water gun on you?" Zoroark turn to Dewott and sighs, "yeah but don't full blast me ok." Dewott nods and has a steady stream of water going; Zoroark washes the mud out of her fur and hair. When she is relatively clean she sits down under a tree to enjoy the rest of her break. Galvantula and Sawsbuck emerge from the forest with Oran berries, they hand one to everyone. Two hours pass, Dante looks to Evens, Evens stands up, "alright everyone back to training."
And this is the routine for the next four days. On the fifth day when everyone got up for breakfast Dante handed Zoroark smooth stones, she looked at them quizzically, "what are these for?" Gothorita levitated them around her arms, legs, and body. Galvantula used a non-electrified web to bind the stones to Zoroark, Gothorita pointed back at the forest, "Now do what you have been doing." Zoroark takes off into the forest again, Dewott follows Gothorita to the spring, "there are obstacles placed throughout the spring you should try to swim from here to the marked post and back as fast as you can." Dewott nods and begins his water training. Golett is still standing out in the field; Dante sees Gothorita comes back from the spring, "Gothorita will help you from this point on until the next step." Golett walks up to Gothorita, "what is the next step in my training." Gothorita levitates the tree trunks that replaced the ones Golett destroyed, "you can hit the target while standing still, but your opponent won't be just standing there waiting for you to hit him, the next step is to hit and avoid the moving targets." And this was the new routine for the next four days.
At the end of the four days the training got progressively harder. Dewott now had Sawsbuck helping by kicking boulders into the spring. Zoroark had gotten heavier stones and was told to attack anything she couldn't dodge. Golett had progressed well; he could hit a moving target with the same force he had when he completed the first step, but now his footwork was also progressively reaching the level of a seasoned Hitmochan. Throughout all of this time Dante was helping Evens with strategies and other various scenarios that might occur. "The gym has a moat that runs around and through the middle of the field." "So Dewott is training should he have to enter the water." "Yes, Zoroark is training to match Bisharp's speed, and Golett is training to overpower Escavalier's defense." "And what if one of them loses?" "That's what these strategy meetings are for."
A total of two weeks passed since the team started training for the gym battle. At the end everyone was dead tired, Zoroark had finally taken off the stones bound to her, she was told not to remove them until the end of training. Golett learned Dynamic Punch; the ease and speed at which he could use the move would lead someone to believe that it was just a very powerful mega punch. Dewott learned two new moves, aqua jet and water pulse. Zoroark learned dark pulse and shadow ball. After dinner all of the Pokémon passed out, leaving Dante and Evens to clean up. The both of them were looking up at the stars as the fire was going, Evens sighed, "I have been here exactly one month, and I wish I knew how long that is in our world's time." Dante poked the fire, "who knows, maybe time has stopped for us back home." Evens turns to Dante, "thanks, for you know hanging around, I don't know how I would have handled traveling by myself here." Dante smiles and pats Evens on the shoulder, "no problem man, it's good to know I got someone watching my back here." Evens smiles, "of course, I consider us to be friends." Dante smiles again, "same here man, same here." The both of them fall asleep outside next to their Pokémon. The eggs throughout this entire time were kept close and safe; someone who wasn't training was watching the eggs to ensure healthy growth. Gothorita was sound asleep when she heard a faint cry. She slowly got up and mentally looked around, 'no humans around, and every other Pokémon is asleep.' Just as she was about to fall asleep again she heard the cry again, this time is was closer. Gothorita stood up and looked around for the noise, when her eyes fell upon the eggs she heard the cry again. She calmly walked toward the eggs, careful not to wake Sawsbuck who was on egg watch that night. She finally realized that the cry wasn't heard by anyone else because the cry was inside the mind of the infant Pokémon. She listened in carefully as to what the Pokémon was crying about, what she "saw" horrified her. It was images of war, pain, and suffering. These images were constantly playing through the Pokémon's head, and it was a cry of delight that Gothorita had heard. She sank to her knees, 'what kind of Pokémon would delight with such images flashing through its head.' She was almost in tears, 'it hasn't even experienced what joys living a normal life could bring.' 'I agree.' this new voice scared Gothorita who raised the alarm. "EVERYONE GET UP SOMEONE IS HERE!" Dante and Evens bolted up; Zoroark jumped to Sawsbuck's side should whatever the intruder was be targeting the eggs. A Mewtwo floated down from the sky. Dante and Evens looked at each other knowing that they did not stand a chance against a legendary Pokémon. "Don't panic, I'm just here to help." A young adult stepped out from behind Mewtwo. He had a red baseball cap on with a matching red jacket; he also was carrying two duffle bags. "My name is Red, and those eggs that were given to you was a trap set up by team nightfall." Dante and Evens looked at each other not sure if they wanted to believe this person. Red calmly set down the two bags and slowly unzipped them, revealing two glass jars large enough to hold a Pokémon egg in. The tops were computerized, Red entered a number sequence into the control pad on the lid, "those eggs were programmed to attack the first thing it sees when it hatches." Evens steps in front of the eggs, "and what is that machine that you have there do?" "Think of this as a virus sweeper, it gets rid of any programming that might by harmful to the Pokémon or its trainer." Dante stood by Evens, "how do we know you're telling the truth?" "These canisters were created by professor oak to help counter such a situation." Evens looked back at the eggs, "how do we now they work?" "I have already tired them on several other Pokémon, look if I'm not telling the truth and your Pokémon gets hurt you can take it out on me." Mewtwo gives Red a concerned look, 'are you sure that is a wise decision?' Red nods, "they won't believe me otherwise, and if come to that don't stop them ok, just let it happen." Mewtwo puts its hand over its heart and bows, 'of course master.'
After an hour the lids start to beep, Red inputs a code and the tops pop open, "that should do it, and there should no longer be any problem with them hatching." Evens holds the eggs in his arms, "how far will they go?" Red packing up the canisters replies, "Until the organization is disbanded and every agent they have is in jail, it won't stop." Dante crosses his arms and Evens looks down with a worried look, "don't worry about it, and just deal with them when the opportunity comes." Mewtwo levitates Red and itself away. The two decide to figure out what they are going to do in the morning, everyone falls back asleep.
When morning comes everyone is sore from the previous day. Dante and Evens talk about what to do with the eggs and the new entourage they managed to gather. Dante crosses his arms, "I'm keeping the eggs, it'll be safer with us then in the hands of someone not expecting to be judo chopped in the throat while they sleep." "So the eggs are staying, but what about team nightfall?" Dante looks back at everyone enjoying themselves, "well we don't know where they are located, or who exactly is in the team." "So I guess we'll just have to deal with whatever is thrown at us?" Dante nods, the two head back and eat breakfast with everyone else. With everything packed up everyone heads in the direction of Robindeen town. After about a three hour walk the group get to the front gate. As they step inside the unexpected happens the eggs start to crack!
And so ends another chapter for our hero's. What is inside the eggs? Will Red's deprogramming work? How will Evens gym battle go? The answers to these questions lie in the next chapter so stay tuned.
